Best Beach Hotels in Los Angeles
Here s the first thing you need to know if you re looking for a beach hotel in Los Angeles: A lot of places in Los Angeles have beach in their name but are blocks from the sand. Other creative markets say ocean views but what really mean is that you can see the ocean if you lean out the window or peer over the shrubbery.
It s hard to know from looking at websites whether a hotel is really the kind of beach hotel you re dreaming of. That s why I created this guide. I looked at all of them. I visited more than one. All of these Los Angeles beach hotels are right on the beach or as close as you can get. Find out how we choose the recommended hotels . They re listed geographically, from north to south.
Shutters on Beach, Santa Monica
Shutters on the Beach says: nothing stands between you and the sand, and it s true. This is one of the best-rated, most luxurious hotels in Santa Monica (and one of the most expensive).
They charge for WiFi and are pet friendly (with an extra fee).
Casa Del Mar, Santa Monica
The Casa Del Mar overlooks the beach and walking path, and is just a short distance from the Santa Monica Pier. It s literally right on the beach, but beware: not all rooms have ocean views.
The hotel is pet friendly (but with an extra fee). WiFi is free, but they charge for parking.
Malibu Beach Inn
Located in the area nicknamed “Billionaire’s Beach,” the Malibu Beach Inn is a very highly-rated hotel in a gorgeous location. They offer yoga classes on the beach and – surprisingly for a high-end hotel – free WiFi. They do charge for parking.
Not all rooms have ocean views and the ones facing the Pacific Coast Highway can be a little noisy.
Jamaica Bay Inn, Marina Del Rey
The Jamaica Bay is right on the beach, but that beach is facing the marina, not the ocean. The water will be calmer because of that.
It s a newer hotel and well-rated. People seem to especially like how clean it is – and its friendly staff.
They charge for parking.
Venice Beach Suites
Venice Beach Suites are in a renovated hotel on the Venice Beach waterfront. The location is right in the middle of the action on the Venice Beach Boardwalk. All of their rooms are fully-furnished studio suites.
The hotel provides free WiFi and – in great beach style – free boogie and surf boards, beach chairs, umbrellas and sports equipment.
Venice on the Beach Hotel
Venice on the Beach is next to the Venice Beach Pier, in the middle of the busy waterfront scene. Not all of their rooms have ocean views, but the beach is still just a few steps away and you can see the pier from their rooftop terrace.
Rooms are small and basic, but very clean and the place is well rated. They offer free parking and breakfast.
Beach House, Hermosa Beach
For a taste of LA beach life, you can t do better than the Beach House. It s located facing the waterfront walking path, with a view of the pier and just steps from the sand. It s a newer property with great reviews and big rooms.
Portofino Hotel and Yacht Club, Redondo Beach
The Portofino is located just inside the breakfront that forms the yacht harbor and not quite on the beach, but you ll see the water or the marina from your window and the beach is just a short walk away. So is the Redondo Beach Pier.
For the best view, choose an ocean view room upstairs.
