Recovering a database with a missing transaction log #microsoft #sql #server, #sql

Recovering a database with a missing transaction log

Question: We had a SAN problem over the weekend and the upshot is that one of our main databases was shut down with open transactions, but we ve lost the log file. The last working backup is two weeks old.

Is there any way to recover the database without having to resort to the old backup?

Answer: Yes, but not without consequences.

Usually when a database has open transactions and the server crashes, crash recovery will run on the affected database and roll back the open transactions. This prevents the partial effects of transactions being present in the database. If the transaction log is not available when SQL Server starts, the database will be in the SUSPECT state.

In this case, the only way to bring the database online (note that I m not saying way to make the database usable ) is to use the emergency mode repair functionality that was added in SQL Server 2005. This basically builds a new transaction log and then runs a DBCC CHECKDB using REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS. Read more .

The problem you will have if you decide to go this route is that emergency mode repair cannot roll back any of the active transactions as it has no knowledge of what they were, because the transaction log was destroyed. This means that at best, the resulting database will be transactionally inconsistent i.e. the state of the data in the database is unknown.

For instance, there may have been a transaction that was updating some sales records in a table, and only half of them were updated before the crash and subsequent transaction log loss occurred. You ll find it very difficult to figure out what state the data is in, and how to make the database properly usable again by the application.

Emergency mode repair is supposed to be a real last resort when all other methods of recovering data have failed.

In your case, you ll have to figure out what is the lesser of two evils recovering the database into an inconsistent state, or restoring the two-week old backup. You may end up deciding to do both, and trying to piece together the data, but that will be very time consuming and problematic again, because you don t know what was happening in the database at the time that the crash occurred.

To prevent this situation in future, beef up your backup strategy to use much more frequent backups, and add a high-availability technology that maintains a real-time copy of your database such as database mirroring or SQL Server 2012 Availability Groups.

Job Outlook and Salary Information

Continuing Education and Certification Information

Upon completion of a health care administration graduate certificate program, individuals may go on to earn a graduate degree, if they do not already possess one. In some cases, graduates may be able to apply their certificate coursework towards their graduate degree program. Most master’s degree programs include a thesis or field experience requirement, and doctoral degree programs focus on research, oftentimes requiring a dissertation.

The AHIMA offers a certification program with the credential of RHIA. In addition to possessing a bachelor’s degree, applicants must pass an exam to obtain certification. Additionally, those who work as nursing care administrators and some assisted living administrators must pass a state licensing exam to be eligible for employment. General areas of health care management do not require licensure. For those required to maintain certification or licensure, continuing education courses must typically be completed at an accredited school, college or training organization.

A certificate in health care administration provides professionals with a prime opportunity to advance their careers. Coursework for the certificate also prepares workers for certification, a requirement in some parts of the industry.

It can be easy to mix up the terms “healthcare management” and “healthcare administration” because they look like they mean the same thing. The more prestigious educational facilities in the country do not help when they start using the two phrases interchangeably. While the confusion between the two practices is understandable, that does not change the fact that these are two very different aspects of the healthcare industry.

The difference between administration and management is much like the difference between sales and marketing. Both sales and marketing are used to generate revenue for a company, but they accomplish that task in two different ways. Sales is the face of a company that has the face to face contact with clients and marketing attempts to expand the corporate client base through advertising and other physical means. Marketing is also much more interested in demographics than sales would be, where sales would be much more interested in revenue numbers than marketing.

The general difference between healthcare administration and healthcare management is that management runs the healthcare organization and administration handles the staffing. But within those two general areas are several sub-areas of concern that require years of intense education and experience to get right.

Healthcare administration gets confusing because the people who run larger healthcare facilities are often referred to as administrators. These kinds of confusions make it extremely important that a professional understands the differences between management and administration before getting too deeply into their career. You may find that you have chosen the wrong side and may have to restart your career to get it right.

YouTube Special Feature

Testimonials about the HCA program through the Department of Public Health at WKU.

When you get involved in healthcare management, you become concerned with disciplines such as policy, accounting and facilities management. In order to be competitive in their field, a healthcare manager may choose to become specialized in accounting along with healthcare to help develop the skills she needs to address the concerns of her position. The healthcare manager is concerned with the overall operation of the facility or network and leaves the day to day management of staff to the administrator.

An effective healthcare administrator becomes familiar with the kind of medical research or treatment her facility will be offering in order to understand the staffing demands of her patients and company. She spends time studying the methods used within her particular part of healthcare so that she can understand the best ways to utilize the staff and talent on hand.

A big difference between a healthcare manager and a healthcare administrator is that most healthcare organizations require their managers to have an educational background which is specific to healthcare management. There are schools all over the country which offer these very specialized kinds of curriculums and they can take anywhere from two to four years to complete.

A professional who wants to study to be in healthcare administration can get an MHA degree from an accredited university, or she can choose to get an MBA that has a concentration in healthcare. Depending on what kind of administration the person chooses to get involved with, the option of getting an MBA with a healthcare focus would probably be the better choice.

When it comes to leadership skills and the need for good management practices, both a manager and an administrator would benefit from these. But the administrator would be better served by becoming familiar with staff management procedures, while the administrator needs to become adept at leadership skills.

The entire concept of separating healthcare administrator from healthcare manager can be confusing. In many smaller healthcare organizations, the two roles are merged together to help save on costs. But when you decide to get into the healthcare industry, you need to have a comprehensive understanding of each field before you choose the one you will specialize in. Healthcare management deals with the big business picture of a health organization, while the administrator runs departments and is concerned with staff scheduling and departmental budgets. Until you take the time to analyze both carefully, the confusion between the two can become frustrating.

The best approach to take when trying to determine your career path is to spend time with an educational counselor, or try to talk to people who are already in the industry. Anyone with practical career experience will be able to give you the advice you need to make the right decision.

“It’s really hard to find your own mistakes, especially when you know how text/copy should read. I always run all my projects past Cathy’s meticulous eyes before releasing a project to press or production. On more than one occasion, she has found typos or grammatical errors that would have cost me money and aggravation to reprint, not to mention client dissatisfaction as a result, I’ve never had to reprint a project. The LL.M. (Master of Laws) program is a one-year degree program that typically includes 180 students from more than 70 countries. The Graduate Program is interested in attracting intellectually curious and thoughtful candidates from a variety of legal systems and backgrounds and with various career plans. Harvard s LL.M. students include lawyers working in firms, government officials, law professors, judges, diplomats, human rights activists, doctoral students, business men and women, and others. The diversity of the participants in the LL.M. program contributes significantly to the educational experience of all students at the School.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the LL.M. program, an applicant must have a J.D. (Juris Doctor) from an accredited U.S. law school or a first law degree (J.D. LL.B. or the equivalent) from a foreign law school. Harvard Law School is rarely able to accept into its LL.M. program anyone who already holds (or is pursuing) an LL.M. from another law school in the United States.

Admissions Criteria

Admission to the LL.M. program is highly competitive. Last year approximately 1,600 applicants competed for around 180 places in the LL.M. program. Most applicants are fully qualified for the program, and the Committee on Graduate Studies must select from among a large number of candidates who have excellent credentials. In evaluating applications, the Committee takes into consideration the applicant s grades and rank in his or her law and other university studies, letters of recommendation, occupational interests, professional and personal accomplishments, and other factors, including the following:

For LL.M. Applicants from Abroad

The program is designed for intellectually curious and thoughtful candidates who come from a variety of legal systems and backgrounds and who have demonstrated an intent to return to their country to contribute to academia or the legal profession. We are equally interested in applicants pursuing careers in law teaching and research, government service, the judiciary, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and private practice.

For LL.M. Applicants from the United States

The program is designed for graduates of U.S. law schools who have had at least two or three years of experience beyond law school and who have committed themselves to a career in law teaching. In the admissions process, the Committee focuses primarily on applicants who have excelled in their basic law school studies, who elicit strong letters of recommendation from law school teachers and others familiar with their work, and who have spent at least two years working as a law school teacher, judicial clerk, or practitioner in a public agency or private practice. Evidence of graduate education in a field other than law is also significant. Weight will be given to materials demonstrating the applicant s interest in, commitment to, and capability for a career in law teaching.

Jobs and Salary Info for a Bachelor s Degree in Public Health

Jobs and Salary Info for a Bachelor s Degree in Public Health

Career Options

Students who get their bachelor’s in public health can work in many different sectors, such as non-profit organizations and with the government. Specific job titles include health educators and social workers. Below are descriptions and overviews of two possible career options for public health majors.

Health Educator

Health educators provide information to individuals and communities about healthy living, disease prevention, safety, parenting, family planning and many other areas. They may work for colleges or secondary schools, state and local public health departments, nonprofits or private businesses. The programs they run range from sex education classes in high school settings to outside counseling services to hospital patients.

Health educators must have excellent communication skills to work well with individuals and groups from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Because they are often in charge of designing and implementing new programs, health educators must be adaptable, creative and in touch with the communities they serve.

Due to the rising cost of healthcare, employers, insurance companies and governmental organizations are looking for ways to curb costs through preventative health measures. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicted that employment opportunities for health educators would grow by 12% from 2014-2024. The BLS reports that the mean annual salary for health educators is $56,690 as of May 2015.

  • Health Physics
  • Health Services Administration

Social Worker

Social workers assist clients in overcoming emotional, situational, socioeconomic and other types of hardships. They may work with children, families, mental health patients, substance abusers or prisoners. Social workers perform a wide range of duties, which may include counseling clients, planning and implementing programming, fundraising, advocacy and administrative work.

Individuals interested in a social work career must typically pursue a graduate degree in social work to become licensed. However, a bachelor’s degree in public health often qualifies individuals for entry-level social work positions, which do not require licensing, such as those with non-profit or community-based organizations.

Social workers need to be comfortable working with individuals who face severe hardships and must be able to communicate well with a diverse array of people. They should be able to work independently at on-site locations, such as clients’ homes, homeless shelters, mental health organizations, schools or jails. Additionally, social works require critical thinking skills to assess the needs of clients and apply problem-solving techniques.

The BLS reports that the field of healthcare social work should see rapid job growth of 19% between 2014 and 2024, largely due to an aging baby boomer generation, who, along with their families, will seek help from social workers to locate appropriate care. As of May 2015, healthcare social workers earned a mean income of $54,020 per year, according to the BLS.

Health educators and healthcare social workers provide services related to personal and public healthcare to individuals and groups in the community. While a health educator may seek to inform individuals about how to prevent the spread of disease, a healthcare social worker may work with individuals who have a disease and are facing life changes due to illness. The BLS expects faster than average job growth in both fields when compared to all occupations, and salaries averaged in the mid-$50,000s in 2015.

Cool Things to Do with Netsh #netsh, #microsoft #windows #server #2003, #windows

Cool Things to Do with Netsh

The Netsh command is a powerful command-line tool for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. Netsh is available in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit and is standard in Windows 2003 and XP. Netsh lets you change almost any network configuration setting as well as document network configurations. You can use the command in a batch file or from its own command shell. Netsh has a useful Help system that you can access by adding /? to almost any of its subcommands. Here are 10 cool things that you can use Netsh to do.

10. Show TCP/IP settings The command

shows the system s current TCP/IP configuration settings. You can see whether the system is using DHCP or static addressing as well as view the system s current IP address, subnet mask, gateway address, and DNS servers.

9. Change network configuration Netsh can change the current network configuration. The command

sets the IP address of the system configuration Local Area Connection to, the subnet mask to, and the gateway address to This use of Netsh comes in handy for laptops that must switch between static and dynamic addressed networks.

8. Use a dynamic DHCP assigned address The command

sets the IP address of the Local Area Connection system configuration to use DHCP addressing.

7. Change a DNS server address When you change the system s IP address type, you almost always have to change the DNS server s address as well. The command

configures the Local Area Connection to use a DNS server whose address is

6. Dynamically assign the DNS server address When you switch to dynamic DHCP addressing, you typically also want the DNS server address to be assigned dynamically. The command

sets the Local Area Connection interface to use a DHCP-assigned DNS address.

5. Configure a WINS server Netsh also lets you configure WINS servers. The following command configures a system s Local Area Connection interface to use a WINS server that has the IP address

4. Work with other interfaces Netsh works with DHCP, Internet Authentication Service (IAS), and RAS interfaces as well as the local network interface. The command

dumps the local DHCP server s configuration to the dhcpcfg.dat file. You can use this file in conjunction with Netsh to recreate the DHCP server.

3. Work with remote systems One of Netsh s best hidden features is its ability to work with remote systems. The command

sets the current computer to a different system on the network.

2. Save the current configuration The Interface Dump subcommand saves your current network configuration and generates a script that you can use to regenerate the configuration. The command

redirects the Dump command to the mycfg.dat file.

1. Restore network configuration The Netsh Exec command runs a Netsh script file. The command

restores to your system the network configuration data that the preceding sample command saved.

I too ran into this problem. Do this: 1. Create a batch file called netsh.bat ( for example ) with the netsh commands you would like to run ( just as they would run locally on your PC ) 2. Copy netsh.bat to C:\ (for example) on all of the nodes that need the change ( you can copy netsh.bat across your LAN via another batch file ). 3. With another batch file, schedule an AT job on each node that needs the change: this at job should run c:\netsh.bat ( that has already been copied to each node that needs the change ). This works becuase the job is running locally on each PC, rather than being pushed from another. Thanks, and good luck. -LP

To add multiple DNS entries you need to type: netsh interface ip set dns name=”Wireless Network Connection” source=static addr= register=PRIMARY netsh interface ip add dns name=”Wireless Network Connection” addr= index=2 They need to be entered on a separate line.

Cameron Fairbairn (not verified)

In order to add multiple DNS servers, use the following syntax: add dns “Local Area Connection” add dns “Local Area Connection” index=2 index=2 adds the IP as a secondary dns server.

Anonymous User (not verified)

Wow, that came out ugly, let me try again: C:\WINNT\system32>netsh netsh>interface interface>show interface Admin State State Type Interface Name ————————————————————————- Enabled Dedicated Local Area Connection Enabled Internal Internal Enabled Loopback Loopback (Note: Look for “Dedicated” connection types with any name other than a GUID) interface>ip interface ip>delete dns “Local Area Connection” all interface ip>set dns “Local Area Connection” static interface ip>add dns “Local Area Connection” index=2

Would anyone know why I am getting the following error with #3, which is the remote command. When I run “netsh set machine virtual2000” I get the following response “WARNING: Could not obtain host information from machine: []. Some commands may not be available. Access is denied” The result is identical when I try “netsh -r virtual2000” I have tried physical servers as well, but I get the same result. I tried to google the error, but I don’t see anything. The netsh interface works fine until you get to the “set IP address” portion”. At that point, the available commands are blank.

Is it possible to use netsh to disable and then enable an interface? Been trying to figure out a way do do that from a cmd line. thx

The sentence “The Netsh command is a powerful command-line tool for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. Netsh is available in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit and is standard in Windows 2003 and XP.” should be changed to “The Netsh command is a powerful command-line tool that is installed by default for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.” Netsh is included with Windows 2000, not as part of the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit. Thanks.

Find your interface name & set multiple dns entries like this: C:\WINNT\system32>netsh netsh>interface interface>show interface Admin State State Type Interface Name ————————————————————————- Enabled Dedicated Local Area Connection Enabled Internal Internal Enabled Loopback Loopback (Note: Look for “Dedicated” connection types with any name other than a GUID) interface>ip interface ip>delete dns “Local Area Connection” all interface ip>set dns “Local Area Connection” static interface ip>add dns “Local Area Connection” index=2

Anonymous User (not verified)

Is it possible in WIN 2000 to “disable” “Local Area Connection” using NetSh? What are the commands?

Invoice Factoring -an advance on money due to you from a business

Invoice Factoring

Its what your looking for

What is factoring:

Invoice factoring is essentially an advance on money / cash due to a business, by means of the sale of the invoices to a bridging company. This is not a loan against invoices but an outright sale of selected invoices ( one or many ) or the full debtors book, to a bridging finance company, but with recourse to the seller of the full invoice value.

Why use single invoice factoring or selective invoice discounting

This is a very simple and reasonably quick method (within 2 weeks of receipt of all documents) used by businesses to improve cash flow or working capital as and when needed. There is no lock in period and no penalty for early settlement. You elect to bridge one or a few invoices not the entire debtors book.

Costs Once

Once off set up fee of approx 3 % to 5 % depending on the size of the invoice bridging required. Monthly cost of between 4,5 % and 6 %

Pre-Conditions to Discount Invoices:
The goods /services must have been delivered / rendered and the customer must have accepted the goods / services with no pending disputes. The company requesting the bridging should be profitable and have a clean credit record.

We use this Mass eMailing system.

Any healthcare student knows that experience is hard to get, but it is necessary in developing a successful career. During the course of his education, a budding healthcare professional will take on internships and work at as many jobs as possible just to get the experience he needs to move ahead in his career. It is more than just having something to put on his resume. It is also the need to learn the business with practical, hands-on experience that can allow him to expand his skill set.

When you make the decision to take on a career in the healthcare industry, the next step is to lay the educational foundation and gain the experience you will need to succeed. But the big question is how do you get that experience at the earliest points in your career? You need to be prepared to work for free and you also need to be creative. As you pursue your dream of a job in the field of healthcare administration, you need to find ways to get healthcare experience that can be valuable later on in your career.

#1 Become Familiar With Your Chosen Healthcare Discipline

When you say that you want to get into the field of healthcare administration, you still have a significant amount of narrowing down to do. There are many different ways you can go and many different kinds of curriculums you can choose to study in your pursuit of a healthcare career. The best place to start is to research the top healthcare schools online and study their curriculums to see what kind of education appeals to you. Some of the best educational facilities to look into include:

  • University of North Carolina School of Public Health
  • Tufts University
  • Harvard School of Public Health
  • Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

All of these universities have comprehensive curriculums that you can investigate online and used to make your decision. You will also find that many of these schools offer 101 level classes in healthcare free online. Take a couple of these courses to see if the coursework is for you.

#2 See What Kinds Of Jobs Are Available

The fields of healthcare administration and healthcare management are full of a variety of positions. A sampling of the types of organizations that hire healthcare administrators includes:

  • Health Networks
  • Long-Term Care Facilities
  • Public Health Advocate Groups
  • Hospitals
  • Research Facilities

An Internet search of the various online job hunting websites will give you a good idea as to what kinds of jobs are available and what kind of experience that you need. The more comprehensive online employment websites will outline the exact kind of educational background and experience you will need to be considered for certain positions. You can use that information as your guide to developing your career.

#3 Get As Many Internships As You Can

When you are studying in the healthcare field, you will qualify for a variety of internships that will become invaluable to developing your career. Some of the more prominent national internships are offered by organizations such as:

  • U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
  • Mayo Clinic
  • World Health Organization
  • Children’s Hospital Network

If you cannot get an internship, the contact your local healthcare organization and offer to work for free during the summer or any time you have off from classes. The more time that you spend gaining exposure to actual job activities within your profession, the better it looks on your resume. As was mentioned, you will have to put in a lot of time working for free when you are establishing your career. But the end result will be a series of valuable pieces of work experience that you can add to your resume.

#4 Investigate Free Online Courses And Seminars

There is a long list of free online healthcare courses and seminars available that will help you to gain a detailed understanding of what the healthcare industry is and what will be expected of you. The major universities offer many online free courses as well as the websites that specialize in online training. You will also find that there are plenty of online free course and seminar offerings from groups such as the World Health Organization and the American Medical Association.

In most cases, these online courses and seminars will consist of class notes, slides and recorded lectures. Many of these courses also offer self-assessment tests that you can use to gauge your understanding after reviewing the material. These free courses and seminars are great ways to get a better understanding of the healthcare industry and get a head start on your education.

#5 Ask For Experience

Some of the largest healthcare organizations in the world are non-profit organizations who are always looking for ways to groom the next generation of healthcare professionals. You can contact these organizations and ask them if they offer any way of gaining experience in the healthcare industry. Some may suggest that you visit a local office and talk to some of the professionals who work there, while others may point you towards their website and suggest that you look at their news section or other parts of the website.

The most prominent international health organizations to contact include:

  • The World Health Organization
  • American Red Cross
  • PATH
  • Doctors Without Borders
  • Peace Corps
  • U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

#6 Try As Many Fields As You Can

As was mentioned, the healthcare industry is filled with a variety of organizations. When you start choosing the places that you would like to volunteer for or take an internship with, try to investigate as many options as you can. For example, you may find that you are not as attracted to the idea of getting involved in international health policy as you are with helping doctors to cure diseases. That means that you would be more interested in an internship with a place like the Mayo Clinic, which does a significant amount of medical research, as opposed to an organization such as PATH, which gets involved in global health policies.

Getting involved in an advocate group is much different than getting involved with a heath network. The best way to discover the field that appeals to you is to try and discuss options with as many different kinds of organizations as possible and then choose your calling carefully.

#7 Build Your Way Up

If your goal is to become a registered nurse, then you should first try to gain a nursing assistant’s certificate before trying for the RN designation. The same goes for people who want to get into a healthcare administration or management position. There are stepping stones you can take which will help you to achieve your goals and build on your experience. Rather than trying to make the leap from the beginner level to a level of relatively significant experience, you should take the time to work your way up through the ranks first.

The benefit to working your way up is that you will significantly improve your educational and experience foundation. You will also have a lot more to put on your resume and that can help you as you reach for your true healthcare career goals.
