How to Prevent Ingrown Hair After Waxing

Whether you head to a salon for your wax job or you do the deed at home, ingrown hairs are a common complaint after waxing. Ingrown hairs are typically the result of hair that grows improperly when forced back into the skin, resulting in a painful red bump that can become infected. By waxing infrequently and using the right technique, you can protect yourself from the pitfalls of waxing for smoother skin and better results.

Step 1

Wax infrequently. Photo Credit zilli/iStock/Getty Images

Wax your body hair infrequently, and less than every three weeks. When you wax too often, you may end up with hairs that are too short for the wax and strip to grasp, resulting in hairs that are ripped and broken. These can grow improperly and cause ingrown hairs. Make sure that your hair is at least a quarter of an inch, to give the wax enough to grab on to for a clean wax job.

Step 2

Brown sugar. Photo Credit S847/iStock/Getty Images

Exfoliate your skin before you wax to get rid of dead skin and release trapped hairs that could be forced back into the skin while waxing, suggests “Cosmopolitan” magazine. Just lather up with a loofah in the shower, or create your own body scrub by mixing a cup of brown sugar with 3 tbsp. of olive oil and 1 tbsp. of milk. Scrub in a circular motion for 30 seconds, then rinse away and pat dry before waxing.

Step 3

Pull wax strips cleanly. Photo Credit AndreyPopov/iStock/Getty Images

Pull the wax strips cleanly, without going over the same spots over and over again. Not only is it irritating to the skin, but it can cause hairs to be forced back into the skin or broken off at an awkward angle, resulting in ingrown hairs. If you’re having an esthetician complete your wax, request that each area is only gone over once.

Step 4

Opt for a loose fitting dress instead of jeans. Photo Credit LuminaStock/iStock/Getty Images

Wear loose-fitting clothing after you wax. Tight, synthetic clothing can chafe the skin and exacerbate ingrown hairs. Opt for breathable, natural fabrics like loose cotton or linen for at least a day after your wax.

Step 5

Try shaving instead. Photo Credit Thomas Lammeyer/iStock/Getty Images

Opt for shaving if you constantly suffer from ingrown hairs after waxing. Waxing pulls hair out at an angle, making it grow into the side of the hair follicle instead of out of the skin. Your individual hair growth pattern may make you especially susceptible to ingrown hairs, and other hair removal methods may work more effectively for you.

How to successfully recover data from a failed RAID

Recovering data from a failed RAID can easily turn into a costly ordeal. Please read this page carefully before proceeding. If you would like to get help from experts, please consider using our fee-based RAID recovery service.

First determine whether the RAID is hardware-based or software-based. The recovery procedures are very different.

    Recovering a hardware RAID

First determine if the problem is caused by the underlying RAID mechanism. If it is not, follow the simpler recovery procedures for an ordinary drive. The following causes of problem are not related to the RAID:

    • Virus attacks.
    • The volume being deleted, resized, reformatted or otherwise changed in Disk Manager or other disk management utilities.

If the problem seems to be in the RAID mechanism, determine the operating state of the RAID and take the appropriate actions.

Avoid the most common mistakes that may cause data to become unrecoverable.

What to Do After a Car Accident

Each year, thousands of people are involved in traffic accidents during the Memorial Day Weekend. If you are one of these unfortunate people, will you know what to do in the aftermath of a collision? How you react can prevent further injuries, reduce costs and accelerate the clean-up and repair process.

The Consumer Protection Association of America is increasing public awareness on this subject by designating the week before Memorial Day “National Driver Education Week.” The Association has developed a list of suggestions to help drivers anticipate what they need to know about dealing with an accident.

“These tips can make a big difference in everything from protecting yourself and your passengers to ensuring that you won’t be without a car while yours is in the shop,” said Dr. Ray Bruce, president of the association.

Over 6.3 million police-reported motor vehicle crashes occurred in the United States in 1998. Almost one-third of these accidents resulted in injury. In 2001, nearly 42,000 people died on America’s roadways. Clearly, accidents are a part of life in America.

So, if you are involved in a traffic collision, try to remain calm, and follow these steps:

Action Plan to Deal with Accidents:

    1. Keep an Emergency Kit in Your Glove Compartment. Drivers should carry a cell phone, as well as pen and paper for taking notes, a disposable camera to take photos of the vehicles at the scene, and a card with information about medical allergies or conditions that may require special attention if there are serious injuries. Also, keep a list of contact numbers for law enforcement agencies handy. Drivers can keep this free fill-in-the-blanks accident information form in their glove compartment. The DocuDent Auto Accident Kit ($19.95), supported by AAA and insurance companies, offers a comprehensive kit that includes a flashlight, reusable camera and accident documentation instructions. A set of cones, warning triangles or emergency flares should be kept in the trunk.

    2. Keep Safety First. Drivers involved in minor accidents with no serious injuries should move cars to the side of the road and out of the way of oncoming traffic. Leaving cars parked in the middle of the road or busy intersection can result in additional accidents and injuries. If a car cannot be moved, drivers and passengers should remain in the cars with seatbelts fastened for everyone’s safety until help arrives. Make sure to turn on hazard lights and set out cones, flares or warning triangles if possible.

    3. Exchange Information. After the accident, exchange the following information: name, address, phone number, insurance company, policy number, driver license number and license plate number for the driver and the owner of each vehicle. If the driver’s name is different from the name of the insured, establish what the relationship is and take down the name and address for each individual. Also make a written description of each car, including year, make, model and color and the exact location of the collision and how it happened. Finally, be polite but don’t tell the other drivers or the police that the accident was your fault, even if you think it was.

    4. Photograph and Document the Accident. Use your camera to document the damage to all the vehicles. Keep in mind that you want your photos to show the overall context of the accident so that you can make your case to a claims adjuster. If there were witnesses, try to get their contact information; they may be able to help you if the other drivers dispute your version of what happened.

    5. File An Accident Report. Although law enforcement officers in many locations may not respond to accidents unless there are injuries, drivers should file a state vehicle accident report, which is available at police stations and often on the Department of Motor Vehicles Web site as a downloadable file. A police report often helps insurance companies speed up the claims process.

    6. Know What Your Insurance Covers. The whole insurance process will be easier following your accident if you know the details of your coverage. For example, don’t wait until after an accident to find out that your policy doesn’t automatically cover costs for towing or a replacement rental car. Generally, for only a dollar or two extra each month, you can add coverage for rental car reimbursement, which provides a rental car for little or no money while your car is in the repair shop or if it is stolen. Check your policy for specifics.

The final question in dealing with an accident is usually who will pay for the damages? If the accident was minor, you and the other drivers may decide to handle the damages yourselves without the involvement of an insurance company. But this isn’t always the best idea, for several reasons.

While the other driver may agree to pay for the damage to your car on the day of the accident, he may see the repair bills and decide it’s too high. At this point, time has passed and your insurance company will have more difficulty piecing together the evidence if you file a claim.

Also, keep in mind that you have no way of knowing whether another driver will change his mind and report the accident to his insurance company. He may even claim injuries that weren’t apparent at the scene of the accident. This means that your insurance company may end up paying him a hefty settlement, or worse yet, you could be dragged into a lawsuit. So make sure that your company has your version of what happened and check your policy if the damages paid out by your insurance company are below a certain amount, the accident may not be considered chargeable. And you will avoid the penalty of a premium hike.

Auto accidents take a tremendous toll on everyone involved, both financially and emotionally. If you’re one of the lucky ones who have thus far avoided a serious accident, hopefully the tips on prevention will help keep it that way. The chances are high, though, that at some point you will be involved in a minor accident. Just keep your head and make safety your primary concern. You’ll have plenty of time to deal with the consequences later.

Chris Soules Absent From Funeral for Man Killed in Fatal Car Accident

She continued, “If somebody got hurt, he was the first one to go help plant and help people. He was really involved in the town. He was a good guy, a very good guy.”

In fact, she said the service was mostly filled with old stories and laughter from the people of the community.

“There was a lot of laughing. He would have hated all this notoriety, it just wasn’t him,” she told us. “The more he could do in the background, the better he liked it.”

She also told us Mosher had a “great family,” who is just trying to figure out how to move forward from their tragic loss.

“You know, they’re so sad right now,” she said. “But you give them a couple months, they’re going to want the courts to do their job.”

On Sunday, E! News learned a wake was also held at the same funeral home.

“It was a typical wake. Everyone was talking to the family and dropping off cards,” a second insider told us. “It was sad. He was relatively young.”

We can confirm Soules did not attend the wake either.

    Read

Meanwhile, today marks one week since the fatal car accident that lead to Mosher’s death.

Last Monday night, E! News learned the former Bachelor star rear-ended a tractor driving near his hometown in Iowa. After calling 911. Soules spoke to the first responders and then left the scene of the accident.

    Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office

Soules was arrested around 1 a.m. at his Arlington home and appeared in court early Tuesday morning where he was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal car accident.

He was released after his mother, Linda. posted $10,000 bail on his behalf, and according to authorities, the cause of the accident including whether alcohol was a factor is still under investigation.

In fact, on Friday, E! News confirmed Iowa’s Buchanan County authorities requested a search warrant regarding the investigation. However, we’ve obtained the documents which state that the cause for the warrant as well as the response will remain sealed.

Following the accident, Soules hired a high-powered legal team out of Des Moines to represent him in the trial. The team has filed to have all information regarding the investigation remain sealed due to the high publicity surrounding Soules and the accident.

The attorneys said in a statement they “are confident that once all the evidence is made public, it will show Soules acted reasonably and did everything in his power to provide aid to Mr. Mosher.”

Best Car Insurance Options After A DUI

A conviction for driving under the influence (DUI) — also called driving while intoxicated (DWI) — will make it harder and more expensive to get car insurance. The good news is that a DUI conviction is only one of several factors that insurers use to determine risk. Each insurer also handles these infractions a bit differently. The bad news is that insurance rates can increase 30% or more after a first DUI, according to our findings.

However, we’ll help you get back on the road (should you choose to do so) and provide the tools needed to save money on car insurance both now and in the future.

Read on below to learn more about what to expect when shopping for car insurance after a DUI and which insurers are likely to offer the lowest rates.

How Much Is A DUI Going To Cost You?

WalletHub recently studied the impact of many high-risk driving behaviors on car insurance rates. This study compared insurance pricing from the five largest insurers for a middle-aged male driver with a full set of coverage on a 7-year-old family sedan – before and after adding in a high-risk driving issue like a DUI. You can learn more about the methodology here .

Based on this research, our example driver obtained quotes that ranged from 16% to 47% higher after reporting a DUI conviction:

Average Monthly Increase For One DUI Nationally

    Avg. Monthly Base Rate

What To Do If You Get Turned Down For Insurance

If you have a valid driver’s license but you keep getting turned down for insurance, your state government can help. Each state has a program to provide a last resort form of liability insurance to drivers and enable them to legally get back on the road.

Normally these “assigned risk” programs are more expensive than other options and only provide liability insurance. So make sure you shop around before resorting to your state’s program for the riskiest drivers.

More Tips For Rebounding From A DUI

After a DUI, the road ahead may be arduous but you can get through it. Here are a few tips for making it pass more smoothly.

    • Make sure to comply with SR-22 requirements – You or your insurer may be required to file an SR-22 or FR-44 certification with the state to confirm that you are carrying the minimum required car insurance. The requirement lasts for three years in many states. Read more here: SR-22 Insurance .
    • Don’t overlook non-owner insurance – If you don’t need a car of your own, you can save on car insurance by getting a non-owner policy. Non-owner car insurance will satisfy your state’s liability insurance requirement so that you can get your driver’s license reinstated.
    • Don’t let it happen again – The consequences of a second or third DUI conviction are far more serious than the first. Whatever number you’re at, do whatever it takes to make sure you don’t repeat your bad behavior. Drunk driving is not only dangerous to your wallet but also endangers your life and the lives of other people on the road.
    • Do the math for alternate transportation – Getting back on the road after a DUI is expensive. In addition to increased insurance costs, you’ll have many fines and fees to pay to get your driver’s license reinstated. It pays to weigh those costs – and the other costs of driving – against transportation alternatives. Even relying on taxis and car hailing services like Uber might be cheaper than driving after a DUI.

4 WAYS WE CAN HELP YOU AFTER YOUR ACCIDENT

The attorneys at Zanes Law have helped thousands of injured people make smarter, more confident legal decisions so that they are made whole after an accident. Today it’s your turn.

Do you have questions or concerns about health insruance, providers, and covering medical costs?

    Medical Bills

Medical bills caused by an auto accident are a cost that should be covered by your injury settlement. If you have health insurance, you should present your insurance card to all medical providers so they will bill your health insurance. If you do not have health insurance, you will need to find a medical provider that will treat you on a lien. This is something that Zanes Law can help you with.

*Treating on a lien: This means that you will not be charged any up-front costs for treatment and the provider will be compensated upon your settlement. This provider would require payment for their services before you receive your proceeds from the claim.

    Property Damage Insurance

Car rentals: If you have rental car coverage through your insurance carrier, you should request your car rental through them. It’s usually an easy process and your insurance will be reimbursed if liability is accepted by the adverse party. When you do not have rental coverage, you will have to wait until liability is established with the other driver’s insurance.

Property damage: Open a property damage claim with your insurance company (even if the accident is not your fault). If you have collision coverage on your insurance, your insurance company will fix your car and will work with the other car’s insurance to ensure they cover the costs. Please note, you may be required to pay your deductible up-front if liability has not yet been established. Once it is, your insurance company will be able to get your deductible back and reimburse you. Click here for information about property damage after a car accident.

Bodily injury: Injury claims are completely different than property damage claims. If you are injured due to a car accident, we recommend you consult with a personal injury lawyer or accident lawyer to open your bodily injury claim for you. If you were injured in the accident, you need to seek medical care immediately and you need to speak with a personal injury attorney as soon as possible. If you are injured and choose to speak with the insurance adjuster on your own, you must make it clear to the adjuster that you are in fact injured. However, our advice is that you seek the assistance of a personal injury attorney and that you limit the conversations that you have with the insurance adjuster. Let your personal injury attorney handle all of these conversations on your behalf.

    Lost Wages Compensation

Lost wages: If your accident has caused you to miss time from work, you are entitled to some type of compensation through your injury claim. You should document all time you took off and keep all doctor’s notes that justify your time off.

Pain and Suffering: This is a term used in the legal industry that refers to emotional and physical stress, as well as the actual physical pain, caused by a car accident. Injury victims are entitled to compensation for pain and suffering.

Overall compensation: Settlement amounts are directly correlated to the facts of a particular case. Some factors that determine a settlement amount are: types of injuries sustained, how long the individual sought medical treatment, total amount of medical bills, future medical bills, and many other factors. We recommend that you contact the personal injury attorneys at Zanes Law in order to find out what the actual value of your claim is.

    Everything

Bills, property damage, medical treatment, insurance, lost wages, and compensation.

If all of the above are concerning you right now, we recommend you speak to a personal injury attorney to answer your specific questions. Yes, a personal injury attorney. Not a general attorney who practices all case types. A personal injury attorney works on these cases all day, everyday and is more experienced when it comes to injury claims. An accident attorney can assist with motorcycle accidents, trucking accidents, construction accidents, premise accidents, bicycle accidents, mass torts, burn injury and class action lawsuits to name a few.

Couple powerless after wife s transfer

Matt McClure and Erika Stark, Calgary Herald 06.11.2013

Alberta Liberal health critic Dr. David Swann said the province’s health authority is devoting too few resources to palliative care.

    Gavin Young / Calgary Herald

A Calgary area man is upset his terminally ill spouse has been discharged from a hospice because she’s apparently taking too long to die.

Ian McDougall said his wife was admitted to Carewest’s Sarcee Hospice five months ago with metastasizing cancer, but administrators transferred the bedridden woman to a long-term care facility last week against her doctor’s wishes.

“It’s very cruel what they’ve done,” McDougall said in an interview.

“I would like my wife to be allowed to stay in the hospice where she may die in peace with dignity.”

A palliative care specialist says experiences like the Bragg Creek couple’s are inevitably upsetting, but rare in a city like Calgary that is relatively well-resourced with 108 hospice spaces.

Dr. David Falk said less than five per cent of patients are sent home or transferred to another facility.

“Hospices have one nurse for every seven patients, while a long-term care facility has one for every 30 beds,” Falk said.

“We try not to disrupt the bonds that are formed in a hospice, but sometimes it’s necessary.”

Alberta Health Services spokesman Don Stewart was unable to respond to questions about McDougall’s case for privacy reasons, but he said the health authority would continue to work with the patient and family to ensure concerns are heard and addressed.

The median stay at a hospice is about 15 days.

The average stay is just over two months, a figure AHS officials said has declined over the past four years.

A health authority brochure warns patients they may be transferred or sent home based on a reassessment by their medical team.

“In some circumstances, patients will stabilize and are then no longer appropriate for the hospice setting,” the brochure says.

Liberal health critic Dr. David Swann said McDougall’s case shows the province’s health authority is devoting too few resources to palliative care.

“This woman has been put in a strange place with strange people who may not have the experience in providing end-of-life care,” Swann said.

“It’s heartless that this government would take away dignity from those who have so little left.”

McDougall said an official in Alberta Health Minister Fred Horne’s office promised last week that his wife’s situation would be investigated, but he hasn’t heard anything further.

    “We’re powerless,” McDougall said.

“They (AHS authorities) are doing everything to us.”

After a Car Accident: First Steps

What should you do if you’re in a car accident? When it happens, injuries may be severe and emotions high. However, there are important things to do at the scene of the accident and soon afterward. Below is a list of things to do after an accident, if possible. Keep this information handy by printing this helpful pamphlet on first steps after an auto accident and storing it in your car.

    Stay at the Scene

Never leave the accident scene until it’s appropriate to do so. If you leave, particularly where someone has sustained injuries or was killed, you can face serious criminal penalties for being a hit-and-run driver.

Check on All Drivers and Passengers

Before assessing property damage, make sure everyone involved in the accident is okay. Get medical attention for anyone who needs it. If a person is unconscious or has neck or back pain, don’t move them until qualified medical help arrives, unless a hazard requires moving the person.

    Call the Police

If there’s significant property damage, physical injury, or death, you need to call the police. Ask that a police report be filed in situations where cops do arrive at the scene, and obtain the name and badge numbers of the responding officers.

Get the names, numbers, addresses, drivers’ license numbers, license plate numbers, and basic insurance information from all drivers involved. If there are passengers, also obtain their names, numbers, and addresses. In talking to other drivers, try to be cordial and cooperative.

However, you shouldn’t apologize for anything at the scene. For example, if you say, I’m so sorry I ran that red light! Is everyone okay? you may be admitting legal liability for what happened. Immediately after an accident, it might not be clear who was at fault or more at fault. Moreover, in many states, fault isn’t determinative of which insurer will pay for any loss. Therefore, try not to admit guilt unintentionally or unnecessarily.

    Talk to Witnesses

Ask every witness what he or she saw. Get their names, numbers, or addresses, if possible. Ask locals if they’ve ever witnessed other accidents in the same place.

    Inform Your Insurance Company

Promptly tell your insurance company you’ve been in an accident. Cooperate with them and tell them the truth about what happened and the extent of your injuries. Explain the facts clearly. If the insurance company finds out that you’ve lied to them about anything, you can get into serious trouble, including possible denial of coverage for the accident. Obtain and review any police report filed, so you can point out who broke what traffic laws or who was at fault.

Keep Track of Your Medical Treatment

Note any doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors, or other medical professionals that you receive treatment from, and each medical provider that referred you to other caregivers. Keep a detailed account of the treatments or medications you receive. Also, request copies of all medical reports and bills as these help you prove your medical expenses later.

Medical expenses are relatively easy to document, but pain and suffering is trickier to prove. Keep a record of how your injuries have impacted your daily life. Include any missed workdays, list any routine activities you can’t undertake, and describe how the injuries have affected your family life.

Take photographs of any damage to your vehicle as soon as possible after the accident. Photos helps your insurance adjuster determine how much you should be compensated for the damage to your car and can help in court. Pictures of your car before the accident can offer a great compare and contrast to show the true extent of the damage sustained in the accident.

    Get a Property Damage Valuation

Obtain your insurance company’s damage valuation. If you aren’t satisfied with how your insurance company has valued your vehicle, don’t give up. Get two independent repair estimates or replacement quotes. Assertively inform the adjuster of your concerns. If you can’t agree on your car’s value, consider mediation or consult an attorney.

Use Caution in Discussing the Incident

Don’t talk to anyone about the accident other than your lawyer, your insurance company, and the police. Don’t talk to a representative of another insurance company, without the knowledge of your attorney or insurer. If called by the other insurance company, be polite, but ask them to call your attorney or insurer to arrange an interview. Also, tell your lawyer or insurer about the call.

Be Wary of Early Settlement Offers

Be careful if you’re offered a settlement from an insurance company. Confirm all your physical injuries have been treated. Some injuries don’t show up or reach their greatest level of discomfort until many days, weeks, or months later. Don’t settle a claim until you know you’ll be compensated for all your injuries, and consult an attorney before signing any settlement documents.

    Consider Hiring an Attorney

If anyone was injured in the accident, it’s best to consult an experienced attorney. An attorney can help you maximize your recovery if you’re injured or better defend yourself if you’re at fault. Many accident attorneys work on a contingency fee basis. That means that your lawyer only receives a fee if you’re awarded damages or receive a settlement. Contact an experienced attorney now for a free claim review .

What is the GASTRIC SLEEVE? Information on cost, benefits of vertical sleeve?

    #

    GastricSleeve (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy)

The gastric sleeve is the lastest weight loss procedure that shows promising results. By restricting food absorbtion and reducing hunger the gastric sleeve might be your best option. Please consult with our surgeon or staff to find out if this is the best procedure for you. Advantages of gastric sleeve include lower cost, less dumping, fewer complications and does not require adjustments after the initial surgery.

The vertical sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive form of weight loss surgery in which approximately 85% of the stomach is removed leaving a cylindrical or sleeve shaped stomach with a capacity ranging from about 60 to 150 cc, depending upon the surgeon performing the procedure. Unlike many other forms of bariatric surgery, the outlet valve and the nerves to the stomach remain intact and, while the stomach is drastically reduced in size, its function is preserved. Again, unlike other forms of surgery such as the Roux en Y gastric bypass, the sleeve gastrectomy is not reversible.

Because the new stomach continues to function normally there are far fewer restrictions on the foods which patients can consume after surgery, albeit that the quantity of food eaten will be considerably reduced. This is seen by many patients as being one of the great advantages of the sleeve gastrectomy, as is the fact that the removal of the majority of the stomach also results in the virtual elimination of hormones produced within the stomach which stimulate hunger.

Perhaps the greatest advantage of the gastric sleeve lies in the fact that it does not involve any bypass of the intestinal tract and patients do not therefore suffer the complications of intestinal bypass such as intestinal obstruction, anemia, osteoporosis, vitamin deficiency and protein deficiency. It also makes it a suitable form of surgery for patients who are already suffering from anemia, Crohn’s disease and a variety of other conditions that would place them at high risk for surgery involving intestinal bypass.

Facts about the gastric sleeve or sleeve gastrectomy:

Alternative names: vertical sleeve gastrectomy, sleeve gastrectomy, greater curvature gastrectomy, parietal gastrectomy, gastric reduction and vertical gastroplasty.

Surgery for high BMI patients. For patients with a particularly high body mass index (typically 50+) many forms of weight loss surgery are either difficult to perform or present increased risk. As a result, a vertical sleeve gastrectomy (or increasingly a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy) is sometimes performed as the first of a two-part weight loss solution to provide an initial drop in weight which then makes other bariatric follow up possible at a reduced level of risk.

Surgery for low BMI patients. For obese patients with a relatively low body mass index the vertical sleeve gastrectomy can also prove a good choice, especially where existing conditions (such as anemia or Crohn’s disease) prevent them from having other forms of bariatric surgery. In addition, patients may choose this form of surgery if they are concerned about the long-term affects of bypass surgery or object to having a ‘foreign’ body implanted into their body, as is the case with lap band surgery.

    Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery

During sleeve gastrectomy, the surgeon will remove the larger, rounded part of the stomach.

    • The remaining stomach looks like a sleeve (or hose or tube) and holds about 15 percent as much food as the original stomach.
    • The surgeon will remove the larger, rounded part of the stomach from the body. (This is the only gastric surgery in which part of the stomach is taken out of the body.)
    • Unlike gastric bypass, which changes stomach openings, sleeve gastrectomy leaves the openings intact.
    • It may be a safer and more effective option than gastric bypass for patients with very high BMI, those with medical problems like anemia, Crohns disease, osteoporosis, extensive prior surgeries and other complex medical conditions.
    • Sleeve gastrectomy may be safer than gastric bypass for patients who have a number of health risks.
    • It lowers the risk of ulcers compared to gastric bypass.
    • The surgery cuts away the part of the stomach that produces grehlin, a stomach hormone that stimulates hunger.
    • Though the stomach is smaller, the openings are left intact, so digestion can go on as normal.
    • The body is free of foreign objects like the LAP-BAND or Realize Band.
    • May be converted to gastric bypass or duodenal switch if necessary for additional weight loss
    • Expected excess weight loss for stand-alone procedure is 60 to 70% at two years
    • Sleeve gastrectomy is more common in Europe, but most American health insurance carriers still consider it an investigational procedure and do not cover the cost. But that is rapidly changing so please consult our office to see if your insurance will cover the gastric sleeve.
    • Anytime you have anesthesia or surgery, there is a risk of blood clots, other complications or death.
    • Do not smoke. Smoking would put you at high risk for infection, blood clots, slow healing and other life-threatening complications.
    • Complications can occur with the stapling, such as leaks or bleeding.
    • You may need malabsorptive surgery intestinal bypass or duodenal switch in addition to your sleeve gastrectomy in order to lose all the weight you need and want to lose.
    • The smaller portion of the stomach may stretch.
    • Foods that you eat now may cause discomfort, nausea or vomiting after your surgery.
    • Gastric surgery puts you at higher than normal risk of developing gallstones and gallbladder disease.
    • You will not lose weight or maintain your weight loss unless you eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. This is the reason we stress long-term follow-up with our center and your doctor.

Michelle Dockery grieving after fiance John Dineen dies

Michelle Dockery’s fiance John Dineen has died in hospital aged 34 after suffering a long-term illness.

The Downton Abbey actress, whose birthday is today, had been in a relationship with Mr Dineen since 2013 after the pair were introduced by actor Allen Leech.

Mr Dineen died in Cork s Marymount Hospital on Sunday morning after being diagnosed with cancer, it has been reported.

The hospital is known for its pain management facilities in Ireland, specialising in palliative care services for terminally ill patients. He is understood to have been treated in London before returning home to Ireland.

A funeral service is expected to take place in Cork on Wednesday.

Dockery is reported to have flown back from the US to be with Mr Dineen and his family in his final hours, visiting the Marymount Hospice.

She was due to celebrate her 34th birthday today, December 15.

A spokesman for Michelle Dockery said: “The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received but would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private.

The actress has recently been touring the United States with the cast of Downton Abbey as part of a publicity tour for the show.

Days ago she appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Watch What Happens Live as part of her promotional obligations.

She did not feature in the cast’s latest photograph, taken by Allen Leech on December 11 outside the White House.

In October, she unexpectedly pulled out of London play Les Liaisons Dangereuses . At the time, no reason was given for her departure.

It is understood Mr Dineen has been battling illness for months.

A senior director with FTI Consulting, he grew up on a farm near Cork and is believed to have proposed to Dockery in February.

The couple had been photographed together at the Venice Film Festival, Wimbledon and at polo s Cartier Queen s Cup, but had rarely spoken of their relationship.

In 2014, the actress said: “I have a wonderful man in my life from Ireland. We were introduced by Allen Leech. That’s all you need to know.”

In an interview with Red Magazine, published this month, she spoke of the security her relationship brought her, confiding: “I ve got people around me who I can turn to for advice: my mum, and my partner, John. But, at this stage, my instincts are pretty good.”

Leech, who plays Tom Branson in the ITV period drama, has said of introducing them: “John’s like family to me and I knew he’d really get on with Michelle.

“She’s a great girl – probably as far from Lady Mary as you could imagine.”
