iPhone 8’s Anticipated In-Screen Fingerprint Sensor Delaying Shipments: Report

Highlights

  • Apple said to be considering three options for the sensor
  • The company said to stock as many as 90 million units of iPhones in Q4
  • Recent report said that Apple has succeeded in the implementation

While a recent report suggested that Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will not feature a fingerprint scanner embedded in the display, it seems like Apple’s implementation of the feature has also hit a roadblock. If the latest reports are to be believed, iPhone 8 production may have been delayed as the Cupertino-based company has still not finalised the design for the fingerprint scanner embedded in the display.

Investment firm Cowen Co. has claimed that Apple is yet to finalise plans for the implementation of Touch ID on iPhone 8, as per a memo received by CNET. Citing analysts, the report says that currently, Apple is considering three options for the fingerprint sensor on the upcoming iPhone 8.

As the first option, the company is considering “thinning the cover glass for the fingerprint area (cover glass cutout).” The second option under consideration would be to create a pin hole through the glass for optical or ultrasonic fingerprint sensing. The final option would be to replace the the AuthenTec Touch ID with a ‘film’ fingerprint sensor that is integrated with the display, as per the report.

As the iPhone-maker still seems to be deliberating upon these options, the investment firm has predicted that the iPhone 8 shipments will be delayed by a month of two and will eventually go on sale in the fourth quarter this year. In order to make up for this expected delay, Cowen says that Apple can possibly stock as many as 90 million iPhone units in fourth quarter of 2017.

Notably, all the options mentioned above suggest that the fingerprint scanner will be present at the front of the display and not at the back, as has been suggested by some earlier rumours.

Interestingly, the same report that suggested Galaxy Note 8 will not be getting an in-screen fingerprint sensor due to security issues also suggested that Apple has succeeded in the implementation of the feature on iPhone 8. While the report mentioned that the company faced its fair share of problems with the design, it said that the Cupertino-based tech giant finally succeeded in introducing it.

Disable the Internal Microphone on your Mac

All Macs have a microphone included in them, but if you want to disable the internal microphone on your Mac, you can do so through a variety of methods. We ll cover the two easiest approaches to turning off the microphone; reducing the input volume so that no sound is picked up by the microphone, and also by selecting a different and nonexistent audio input source so that the Mac will not detect audio whatsoever. Both methods effectively disable the microphone on a Mac

Note these work to disable the Macs internal built-in microphone in all versions of Mac OS X and with just about every Mac. To disable an external microphone, simply unplug it from the Mac.

How to Disable the Internal Microphone on Mac by Reducing the Input Volume to 0

  1. Launch System Preferences from the  Apple menu in the upper left corner
  2. Click on Sound preference panel
  3. Click on the Input tab
  4. Drag the Input volume slider all the way to the left, as seen in the included screenshot you can test the microphone has been disabled by talking and you ll notice the mic indicator no longer moves
  5. Close System Preferences as usual

This method works to turn off the microphone by reducing the audio input to zero, effectively making the internal microphone unable to capture any sound.

This control panel for the Microphone looks a little different depending on the version of Mac OS X used on the Mac, but it always allows users to change the microphone input level to zero thereby disabling the ability to pick up sound.

If you want to basically disable the internal microphone s ability to hear audio entirely, use the below method instead.

How to Disable the Internal Microphone on Mac by Selecting a Different Audio Input

On older versions of Mac OS X you can also just select a different audio input like line-in, even if another mic is not connected to the Mac. This is not an option in newer versions, however, newer Macs can always just plug in a different line-in source and then select that and reduce the volume as described above.

  • Launch the System Preferences
  • Click on Sound
  • Click on the Input tab
  • Select Line-in
  • Close System Preferences

This works by changing the audio input to the line-in, also known as the audio input port on your Mac. As long as you don t actually have any audio input device connected, such as an external microphone or some other line-in device, this method is very effective.

Similarly, users can choose to disable the Mac camera or you can simply put tape over the camera and the microphone as well, with the latter serving a dual purpose of preventing camera visuals and also muffling sound input from laptop microphones.

some of your comments were ignorant. I have a 2nd grade class that I teach at a deaf school. They use sign language and they are required to videorecord themselves, where the sound is not vital to language development. Therefore, imagine when there are sounds associated with the sign language and some of them like to turn on the microphone to annoy and they don t know any better.

Check out these two SoundSource and MuteMyMic. Maybe they will make it easier to adjust the volume.

henry bernard says:

How to disabled the mic on a mac. Your internal mic is on by default also the built in speakers. goto system tag the speaker cymbal, goto input and tag line in then tag line in. If you have a built in camera and mic at the top center tap on the left of the camera where the mic is and you shouldn t see any bars indicating sound is present. If this is true now you know how to disable the mic so that it will not be heard while recording. Caution. You must check all preferences in all other programs and make sure your device is tagged and that you have APPLIED it before closing. You then may need to close the program and then go back in to see that out the changes are correct.sometimes restarting helps. Helpful hint always tap the mic on you monitor while record is enabled making sure the mic is not being record on your trac. hope this helps

Not Madeup says:

None of the above stops the internal microphone from even showing that it is constantly listening to what is available to be heard!

This is not DISABLING, this is just muting it.

I have a good mic attached but sometimes the mac auto decides to switch back to the built-in. Hard to detect since you still have signals on your recording. Therefore I want to DISABLE the built-in, not just mute it, so that OSX can NEVER re-enable it. How do you do that?

John Oliver says:

I ll second the above post looking for a way to COMPLETELY DISABLE the microphone, so that there is NO WAY for it to just turn itself back on , and to lock the slider in the preference pane so a user cannot turn it back on.

Unity is going away and GNOME is coming back

Canonical decided to drop Unity in favor of GNOME, which is probably not the best decision. I think that it s probably a mistake, but it was also an unavoidable move for the company.People have to keep in mind that Ubuntu for desktop was never profitable, and it s easy to see why. There are very few ways to monetize a free operating system. The only way to get some money out of it is to provide specialized support for companies, but that s also not a really profitable avenue. It s very likely that Canonical is making some money from its other products, especially the ones built for the.

The new Apple is a company that changes its mind and is not afraid to take a U-turn or even jump off a cliff

So, you think you know Apple? You think you can predict what their next move is and how the design is going to change?Think again. The new Apple is taking big steps towards. something else. Even for old Apple die-hards is hard to predict where the company is going. Yes, Apple has always been the company that brought something new, invented a new gadget or switched to a new connector just when you thought you got a new accessory, but this time. things are a bit different. There are two ways in which Apple has changed and became totally unpredictable. The hardware kinda lacks behind and we still.

And then, your heart stops beating for a few seconds

You watch TV all snuggled up under the super-soft blanket with your phone just next to you on the couch. It s a commercial break, and you snatch at the glass of wine on the coffee table when, suddenly, you hear a noise. It sounds like something just hit the ground. You don t look around, but in that half of second, you know it can t be good.It can be just two things. It s either the remote or the phone. You start praying it s the remote. It s not. It s the phone, and it s laying on the ground face down after what seemed to be like a pretty strong hit. Yo.

Here s a case for iPhone 7s, not iPhone 8

The first quarter of fiscal 2017 is the best ever for iPhone. Apple sold 78.3 million iPhones in the past few months. The revenue from the iPhone business alone topped $54.4 billion. The best model was, rather unexpectedly, the iPhone 7 Plus. But is that enough to make Apple a winner in the long run?Two very low quartersThe market will stagnate for Apple in the next couple of quarters. The first reason is obvious: no Black Friday, no Christmas or any other important holidays will help the iPhone business. Also, keep in mind that every iOS user will quit spending money on an 8-month-old device and wait.

Will Apple dedicate more time and money to the cloud? How about Siri and the Desktop computer line-up?

2016 was all about the MacBook. The computer that is going to change the future of ports and connectors was born. We have also got a phone with a missing headphone jack. For some users, this is a big downer. Others are happy with their AirPods. Next year seems to be a good one for the desktop computer. Will the Mac mini survive? Is the Mac Pro still up for a refresh?Siri on macOSSiri jumped from the iPhone to the Mac in 2016. It was a long-awaited move that failed to amaze users. Sure enough, the implementation is simple and elegant, just as Apple would do it, but the functionality lacks. Siri ca.

The top companies in the tech world are getting tired of Adobe s Flash Player, and after many years of struggling to deal with its security vulnerabilities, key players like Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Mozilla are finally pushing for the transition to HTML5 in a more aggressive way.Flash Player will be disabled by default in browsers developed by these companies, as HTML5 will be preferred on websites that support it, and users will be given full control over Flash content on websites where it s absolutely mandatory. And while the trend here is to step away from Flash, Adobe is trying exa.

Larry the Cable Guy

The man who added the catch phrases Git-R-Done and Lord, I Apologize to the American lexicon and drew fans by the pickup truckload to his shows proved to be one of the most successful comics of the early 2000s. Dan Whitney, known better as Larry the Cable Guy, claims he was born in the back of an El Camino during a Foghat concert. His drawl may sound Southern, but Larry was raised on a pig farm in Pawnee City, NE. His upbringing was conservative, traditional, and churchgoing. That didn t mean that strip bars were out of the question when Larry reached 18 (maybe even a little earlier). Fascinated by this redneck life — redneck being a term he is not only fine with, but endorses — and always looking to comment on it, Larry used his humorous observations to captivate his friends, who dared him to try his hand at standup. He did in 1986 and the fans reaction to his slow, approachable style had him hooked. Two years later, he relinquished his title as funniest bellhop at the Ramada Inn and set out for a career in comedy.

His one-liner-filled act soon caught word-of-mouth fire in the South and brought him to the attention of television. Appearances on Evening at the Improv and Comic Strip Live increased his fan base past rural America, but it was on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Show on radio that Larry got the most exposure. His success with radio continued when he became a regular on Jeff Foxworthy s Country Countdown Show and Larry soon started syndicating his commentaries to 14 markets across the country. In 2000 Foxworthy invited the comic to join his Blue Collar Comedy Tour, along with Bill Engvall. The successful tour grossed $15 million, sold more than 1 million copies when released on DVD, and turned Larry into a superstar. His debut CD, Lord, I Apologize, appeared in 2001 and became the Dark Side of the Moon of the comedy charts — sticking in the Top 20 for two years running.

In 2002, a Comedy Central airing of Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie became the network s highest-rated movie in its 12-year history, even with the DVD widely available. Larry the Cable Guy: Git-R-Done became his first solo DVD in 2003, and a year later Larry, Foxworthy, and Engvall turned their tour into the highly rated television show Blue Collar TV. Wearing his redneckness as a badge of honor while hating political correctness and racism equally made Larry a hard target for detractors, but he made news with a 2004 appearance on the morning talk show The View. Clay Aiken fans bombarded the show and the comic with hate email when the comic declared, I m on the Clay Aiken diet. That s where you pop in a Clay Aiken CD and try to keep food down.

Ignoring the controversy, Larry spread holiday cheer at the end of the year with his new CD, A Very Larry Christmas, and appeared on Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again. The Right to Bare Arms appeared in March the next year. The year 2006 was devoted mostly to film, with Larry starring in his own feature film, Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector, and supplying the voice of Mater in the animated Disney/Pixar film Cars. He also appeared on the CD and DVD Blue Collar Comedy Tour: One for the Road that year, before returning to his solo career in early 2007 with the album Morning Constitutions. By the end of 2007 his second holiday effort, Christmastime in Larryland, hit the shelves.

PEX REPIPE SPECIALIST

Uponor Pex Repipe – The World’s First, Best, And Most Widely Used System For Single Family Homes And Residential Units.

What is PEX?

PEX is an acronym for crosslinked polyethylene. It is a flexible, durable, proven piping product that has been used in plumbing systems for more than 20 years. PEX tubing won’t pit, scale or corrode and, because of its flexibility, it also offers potential freeze-damage protection.

Residential Commercial Pex Plumbing. Call Toll Free 877-473-7473

Uponor Pex plumbing systems feature PEX-a tubing, which is considered the superior PEX tubing manufacturing method in the industry. PEX-a is the most flexible of all PEX types, and because of its shape and thermal memory, it can use ProPEX expansion fittings which are the only fitting system that actually gets stronger over time – making it highly leak resistant.

1) Repiping in a home begins at the transition point.

2) The transition point is the point where the potable water system enters the building from the exterior of the building.

3) Repiping a potable water system means you totally abandon the existing potable system and replace it with a new system.

4) The first step in repiping your home is masking or “covering” the floors, and this must be completed before the walls are masked off. This overlap “ enveloped ” system allows the plastic sheeting to be rolled up in one continuous motion.

5) Cutting the sheetrock: You will be shocked at how little sheetrock has to be removed for the layout and installation of a new potable water system. A real Pex Plumber is an expert at HVAC, framing, plumbing, and electrical layout, and will lay out the home pex repipe in the most effective route. The better the repiper. the smaller and fewer the drywall holes!

6) A “GREEN REPIPE” potable water system refers to a Pex repipe potable system only – such as UPONOR or ZURN with corrosion resistant fittings. CPVC and copper systems are not green systems.

7) The drywall pieces that are removed must be used in the patching process as each texture is a little different in thickness. This gives you a uniform surface thickness as you start the repair process. Each piece goes back in the hole it came from.

8) Repipe with an approved material. There are currently three main materials used in pex repiping jobs across the US: copper pipe and fittings, CPVC pipe and fittings, and PEX repipe and fittings. (DO NOT USE CPVC, IT IS THE NEXT POLYBUTYLENE)

9) Repipe inspections must be performed by the local building inspectors after the repipe is completed, with the system under full water pressure.

10) The signed inspection card must be given to the homeowner after the PEX repipe inspection is completed.

11) Drywall repair begins after all the necessary backing has been installed. Backing supports the drywall pieces that were removed to access the potable water pipes and accommodate the repiping of a new Pex repipe or copper potable water system.

12) The fiberglass mesh tape must be used 100% of the time.

13) The patches must be pre-filled with quick set patching compound. The compound comes in 18lb bags, and because it is a powder, it must be mixed with water. This locks the perimeter of each patch and will make the area of the patch stronger than it was before the work process began. The reason this is important is that when you close the doors in the house, the walls flex just a little bit, and if you do not perform this method of repair, the patch will fracture over time from the flex/vibration caused by shutting the doors.

14) Do not coat the drywall patches with regular all-purpose joint compound on the repipe patches. This is a common practice and the patches will crack later 100% of the time, even if it’s years later.

15) Coat all the repipe drywall patches with quick set patching compound only. USG will do and you can find it at any home and hardware store, or you will have fractures in the walls at the patch locations.

16) Float all the walls with quick set patching compound and use a 12″ drywall knife and stagger each coat until the walls become smooth and flat. The next step is wet sanding the patches and this must be done if you want the patches to blend in perfectly after the texture is applied. The reason you’ve seen bad patches in the past is that repairmen do not know how to “kill the edges.” This is an old drywall term that means you must do the detail wet sanding work and there is no short cut.

17) Texture to match the existing texture, and this is not as easy as you might think. This is a real art form for the few that know what they are doing. Also, if the texture is spray texture, you must sponge off the overspray for the texture to match. Nothing gives away the location of a patch more than overspray that is painted over and not “killing the edges.”

18) Paint to match the existing paint. All repipe companies color match the same way. They run down to their local hardware store and have the computer color matching done by the man behind the counter. This is beginner color matching. The proper way to color match is hand color matching. First, match the paint sheen. Second, computer match for the base color. Third, tint for color adjustment. Fourth, match the color and sheen after the paint sample has dried. Repeat if necessary. Did you know that the paint color on the wall after it dries will be different than the paint color while it is wet and in the can?

19) If you follow the basic repiping rules, after a very short time you will not be able to point out all the drywall patches from the repair. You will simply forget where the holes were due to the patches receiving the proper floating, texture and painting techniques. Your friends, neighbors, relatives, and even plumbing contractors will not be able to find the patches.

20) This is a basic guideline for a home repipe. and if done, properly you will have a repipe that was done as well as a repipe can be done.

At Integrity Repipe. we provide total abandonment of your existing potable system, and there are never hidden extras, and we don’t hire subcontractors. You’ll receive nothing but the finest, most complete and professional job in the industry. The scope will be for a lead-free and yellow brass -free potable “GREEN SYSTEM” with a full lifetime warranty that covers material and labor.

How to Install an Apple TV

Gather your pieces. The Apple TV comes with the Apple TV itself, along with a power cord and a remote. You can only connect the Apple TV to an HDTV, and you’ll need an HDMI cable to do so. The HDMI cable doesn’t come with the Apple TV, but you can pick one up at an electronics store or online for cheap. When it comes to HDMI cables, there isn’t much practical difference between a $10 cable and an $80 cable. You will also need to be able to connect the Apple TV to your network, either via Wi-Fi or by using Ethernet cable.

  • The first generation Apple TVs could connect via component (five-prong) cables, but this is no longer possible with newer versions of the hardware. [1]
  • If you want to connect your Apple TV to your home theater system, you’ll need a optical digital audio (S/PDIF) cable.

Setup your Apple TV where it can reach the TV and an outlet. Make sure that none of the cords will be stretched tight by the connection. You should also make sure that the Apple TV has room to breathe around it, as it can get warm during operation.

  • If you’re using a wired connection to your network router, make sure that you’ll be able to reach it with the Ethernet cable.

Connect the Apple TV to the HDTV or home theater receiver via HDMI. You can find the HDMI ports on the back or side of your HDTV, or on the back of your home theater receiver. Your HDTV may have one or more HDMI ports. Some older HDTVs may not have HDMI ports.

  • Make note of the label for the HDMI port that you connect the Apple TV to. This will help you select the correct input when you turn on your TV.

Connect the power cable to the Apple TV and plug it into a socket. To be extra cautious, make sure it’s plugged into a surge protector to protect against power surges.

Connect the Ethernet cable (if applicable). If you’re connecting to your network via Ethernet, plug the cable into the back of the Apple TV and then into your router or network switch. If you’re connecting via Wi-Fi, you don’t need to worry about this.

Connect the Apple TV to your home theater (optional). Normally the Apple TV will send audio through the HDMI cable to the TV, but if you use an audio receiver you can connect the Apple TV to it with a optical digital audio (S/PDIF) cable. Connect the cable to the back of the Apple TV and then into the proper port on your receiver or TV.

Part Two of Four:
Setting Up Apple TV Edit

Turn on your TV to the correct input. Press the “Input” or “Source” button on your TV’s remote to select the HDMI port that you connected the Apple TV to. The Apple TV usually turns on automatically, so you should see the menu to select your language. If you don’t see anything, double-check your connections and then press the center button on your Apple TV remote.

Select your language. Use the remote to select your interface language. Use the center button on the remote to make your selection.

Connect to your network. If you are connected to the network via Ethernet, Apple TV will automatically detect the network and connect. If you are connecting via Wi-Fi, a list of available wireless networks will be displayed. Select the network that you would like to connect to. Enter your password if the network is secured.

Wait for the Apple TV to activate. It may take a few moments for Apple TV to perform its initial setup process. After the setup process is complete, you’ll be asked if you want to opt-in to the usage data collection program for Apple. [2]

Check for updates. Your Apple TV will work best when it’s updated to the latest version of the software. You can check for updates using the Settings menu.

  • Open the Settings app on the Apple TV Home screen.
  • Open the “General” option and then select “Update Software”. Your Apple TV will check for and install any available updates.

Browse your iTunes purchases. You can stream any of your purchased movies and TV shows after connecting your Apple TV to your iTunes account. Your most recent purchases will be displayed at the top of the Home screen. You can select the “Movies”, “TV Shows”, and “Music” libraries to see the iTunes storefronts and all of your purchased content.

Use the streaming apps. The Apple TV comes loaded with a variety of streaming apps that you can use to watch streaming video. Many of these apps, such as Netflix and Hulu+, require a separate paid subscription before you can start using them to stream video.

View your shared iTunes libraries. If you have Home Sharing enabled on all of your devices, you can access your different libraries by using the “Computers” option on the Home screen. Selecting this will display all of the computers on your network that have Home Sharing enabled in iTunes. Select the computer that you want to stream from, and then browse the library to choose video and music to stream.
