As a culinary arts student, you ll have 3 hours a day of hands-on kitchen instruction from our chef instructors. Most days, you will be challenged to prepare a serving to be tasted and critiqued by an instructor, your fellow students, and even yourself. We don t do anything half-way, and neither will you.

Columbus Culinary offers an 18-month Associate of Applied Science degree and a 12-month diploma option. Our culinary students graduate from both programs with an employer-ready package of cooking and business skills.

Credit Transfer from Another School

Transcripts of work completed at other colleges may be submitted to the Director of Education for review. Transcripts should be submitted during the first term of a student’s program. Other documentation may also be required. Credits considered for transfer are evaluated by the Director of Education to determine if the course work is similar in nature, content, and level to that required at Bradford School. If the course work is comparable, transfer students may be given credit for courses completed at other approved colleges provided the grades received for the courses were “C” or better. Courses completed at other Bradford schools will be treated the same as courses taken at Bradford School. Because programs at Bradford School are specially tailored to career preparation, course credits from other postsecondary schools may not be transferable. Credit is not granted for advanced placement or experiential learning.

Credit Transfer to Another School

The acceptance of credits is always at the discretion of the institution to which a student is attempting to transfer credits. There may be articulation agreements in place at the time the student enters that may not be in place when the student graduates or desires to attend a particular school. Because programs at Bradford School are designed specifically for career preparation, students must assume that credits for courses taken at Bradford School are not transferable to other institutions. Neither Bradford School nor any of its employees can represent that another institution will accept any courses for credit. A student who is interested in attempting to transfer credits to another institution should contact the Director of Education. Bradford School will supply the necessary documentation that may aid the student in receiving credits for the completed course work provided the student does not owe the school money, is not delinquent or in default on a student loan, or does not owe a refund on any federal or state student financial aid program.

I ve reviewd the general reviews for CSN. Can anyone give me more specific information on their experience with the nursing program? I will be transferring credits from out of state and have lived here just over a year. Any advice. do s or don ts. I would appreciate anything you can pass along. All I ve heard is that it s extremely competitive. I have taken most of the prereqs. I only have Microbiology left.

I ve heard that they have a tough program but that it s comprehensive. I have also heard that they have one of the higher NCLEX pass rate in Nevada. If you re willing to work hard and put effort then you ll succeed no matter where you go. College is for adult learners and I believe you will get as much as you put into it so why pay more at a private school/University when good quality education is available at your local community college? My wife goes there and she has not said anything negative. She says that there are a lot of good quality, free resources available to students but she comments that most people, especially those who need it, do not take advantage of it. Free tutoring, online and on-campus resources! Take advantage of all they offer and put your time and effort, after all, you deserve what you ve paid for.

I just moved here and three of the nurses in my office were trained there, all seem very competent and that speaks volumes. I can ask specific opinions on the program itself, if you like.

If recommend finishing ALL your pre-reqs first. Micro is worth 5-10pts. If you re applying for full-time you ll need about 27-29pts. I got in to the part-time track (now called extended track and requires at least 29pts) with 31 pts out of 35. You get points based on GPA, grades in Biology, medical experience, pre-req completion. Once in the program, kiss your social life goodbye. Nursing program at CSN is what pushed me to drink a lot. it made me realize it was interrupting with my travels and drinking and I make the same money as a nurse right now so after 1 year into it, I left.

I calculated my points based on the courses I have and had 29 pts. before my ACT stores added. So Cathy C you confirmed what I was thinking about getting micro out of the way first. That s good news. It s good to know that they have tutoring available. I ve never been good with math so two years ago I once again attempted to pass the pre cal. I started with the remedial math and got it done. So now my concern is that I haven t done any math in about two years and have to take the ACT. I m afraid I ve forgotten it all. Other than that I might be in good standing. Does anyone know whether there is a score requirement for the ACT. I can t remember.

Health Physics Associate’s Degree

Although more common at higher degree levels, a few schools do offer online associate’s degrees in health physics. Health physics programs aim to teach students how to protect the public from the damaging effects of radiation, particularly radiation used in medical treatment. Students learn fundamentals of nuclear physics, the effects of radiation on living organisms, safe handling techniques and use of radiation survey equipment. A high school diploma or GED certificate are the minimum admission requirements for an associate’s degree program.

Program Information and Requirements

Online associate’s degree programs in health physics often include a lab component that must be completed on site. These types of programs are considered hybrids and are common for many programs in science and medicine. In the online portion of a program, students access all course materials and submit assignments and exams via a school’s website. Online content is accessible at any time of day, but assignments must be completed by deadlines. Technical requirements include a personal computer and Internet access. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, most positions require a bachelor’s degree or higher. Employment of health physicists and other health and safety specialists is expected to grow 4% from 2014-2024 (www.bls.gov ). PayScale.com reports that health physics technicians earned between $43,826 and $83,198 as of October 2016.

Continuing Education Information

What type of curriculum vitae (CV) is most likely to impress potential employers? One that is simple, straightforward, organized and tailored to fit a job ad, experts say.

“Right now it’s a very competitive job market, and a CV is your ticket to an interview,” says Tara Kuther, PhD, an associate professor of psychology at Western Connecticut State University who has given seminars on writing CVs. “A vitae that is formatted nicely, attractive, looks professional and presents your strengths really stands out to employers.”

As such, putting together your CV takes much care and forethought. First off, be sure the job asks for a vitae and not a résumé. A vitae is a detailed record that showcases your career and education accomplishments and can be unlimited in length, whereas a résumé is generally a one-page overview of your career. When applying for most jobs in psychology, employers will request that you send a vitae, not a résumé.

Also, depending on the type of job you are applying for-a practice or academic one-you might need to tailor your vitae. When applying for a practice job, highlight your internship and practicum experience, experts recommend. On the other hand, when applying for an academic or research job, highlight your publications, teaching and research experiences, they say.

Here are the essentials of a vitae that impresses:

Organize your vitae with sections such as “education,” “professional experience” and “publications,” and list each accomplishment in chronological order with beginning and end dates. Also, if applicable, include sections such as “practica/psychotherapy experience,” “volunteer/service work,” “awards and scholarships” and “professional affiliations.”

When applying for a practitioner job, include a section on assessment measures you have mastered during training, advises Shawn Roberson, PhD, a forensic psychologist at the Oklahoma Forensic Center, part of the Northeastern Psychology Internship Program. Roberson helps to screen internship applicants at the center.

WEIGHT IF IT’S WORTH INCLUDING

What to include depends on what the position entails, experts say. For instance, should you include coursework? Most advisers say no, but some recommend listing any specialized training-you might include coursework in forensic psychology, for example, when applying for a forensic job. However, experts generally say that coursework, methodological skills and software proficiencies should be omitted from a vitae that’s geared for full-time jobs, since it’s assumed that psychologists have mastered these skills. Still, you might include such skills on applications for internship and postdoctoral positions, they note.

In particular, any undergraduate experiences you include should be highly relevant to your psychology career and the job at hand, says Mary Kite, PhD, associate dean of the Graduate School at Ball State University and a professor of psychological science there. While social fraternities and sororities don’t belong on a vitae, students might note membership in Psi Chi or Phi Beta Kappa and high academic honors, such as magna cum laude, Kite says.

Be creative in relating your experiences to the job, Roberson adds. If the position requires public speaking or organizational involvement, you might, for example, highlight your work with organizational boards. Experts also say you should not include your age, relationship status or hobbies on your CV.

KEEP IT SIMPLE AND STRAIGHTFORWARD

Too often students try to cram too much information on a page, Kite says. Keep job descriptions clear and concise, and follow a standard format. Bold the headers of the different sections-such as education and professional experience-and use a simple font such as Times New Roman, experts recommend. Also, use quality white or ivory paper, Kite advises. These steps will help employers easily absorb the information on your CV.

HONESTLY REPRESENT YOUR WORK

Don’t pad your vitae to make it appear more impressive, experts advise. For example, Kuther says, many students lump publications and presentations together to make the section look longer. But search committees usually prefer to see them separate, she says. “Everyone understands you’re a student,” Kuther explains. “If you only have one [published] article listed, that is still a fantastic thing.”

TAILOR YOUR VITAE TO THE JOB

Match your background, skills and training to the job you’re applying for, Roberson says. For example, clinical psychologists need to emphasize internship and supervision experience, while academic applicants need to highlight research and teaching experience, Kite adds. “If a student is looking for both, then they should have two different vitae rather than a one-size-fits-all vitae,” Kite says.

MAXIMIZE YOUR CV WITH THE COVER LETTER

Use the cover letter to highlight accomplishments on your CV, such as clinical, research or education experiences that match the job, Roberson notes. You can also call attention to work that doesn’t belong in the CV: If you have any research in progress, for instance, use the cover letter to mention it, Kite says. The CV should only contain research that has been published or is in press, she explains. And, just like the CV, the cover letter also needs to be customized for every employer.

Ask colleagues or faculty members to check your vitae for awkward phrasing, formatting problems and spelling errors, and to give you feedback on content and organization, advise Kite and others.

Ultimately, the vitae should serve as a summary of your education and career experiences, Kite notes, and should be continually updated throughout your career.

Dr. Sonya A. F. Stephens serves as the interim dean of the College of Science and Technology. She most recently served as the associate dean of the college and prior to that was the chair of the Department of Mathematics from 2005 to 2012. She has experience with accreditation, curriculum development, student affairs and support programs, and fiscal management. Dr. Stephens received her B.S. degree in mathematics from Norfolk State University and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in applied mathematics from Florida Institute of Technology. She joined the faculty at FAMU in 1998.

Mission
The primary mission of the College of Science and Technology is to deliver outstanding innovative instruction, conduct high-quality research, and provide impactful service. To accomplish this mission, the college provides opportunities for qualified students (1) to acquire the fundamentals of a liberal education, (2) to acquire a mastery of basic competencies and skills, (3) to obtain excellent preparation for professional and graduate study, and (4) to concentrate in several fields offered in the College of Science and Technology.

Programs of Study

The College is organized into five (5) degree-granting departments in the fields of biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics. The college offers 15 separate majors leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. It also offers master’s-level programs in biology, chemistry, computer science and physics; and the doctorate in physics .

Students enrolled in the College of Science and Technology have several curricula to choose from that are offered by the college. They may also take courses offered in other colleges and schools of the University, which, with the approval of the department chairperson, may be included in the degree program, used as a minor field of concentration, or used as electives. In order to graduate, undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and a grade of C or above in all major and minor courses; graduate students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Some programs may have requirements for graduation that are above the minimum. All directed individual study (DIS) courses must be approved by the supervising professor, the chairperson and the dean. Prior approval by the dean is required for all transient credit.

Associate in Applied Science (AAS) programs are designed to provide preparation for entry level employment and are not intended for transfer. Certain courses in AAS degree programs may be accepted by a four year college or university for transfer credit in an associated field of study.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Jefferson College of Health Sciences is the oldest OTA program in Virginia, established in 1992.

Our small class size (average 25 students) allows for more individualized instruction and hands-on participation in the classroom. Students range in age from recent high school graduates to individuals returning to school to prepare a second career. These differences in age and life experiences make for lively discussions in classes as we explore different roles people assume throughout their life span. Awareness of cultural diversity is an important tenet of the profession and our student body reflects this diversity.

Philosophy and General Program Information

Our faculty believes students learn best by participation in active learning experiences. As a result, lectures may involve student presentations followed by labs where new techniques can be practiced. Our faculty to student lab ratio of 1 to 12 allows the faculty to get to know students personally. Involvement in professional activities and associations allows for more interaction both personally and professionally in the development of leadership and advocacy.

Part of the education process in this program is for the students to experience hands-on patient interactions. Fieldwork experiences provide these opportunities. Our academic fieldwork coordinator places students in facilities where their clinical skills can best be developed. Fieldwork placements can be local or long distance depending on availability.

Student may take all the courses required for this degree at Jefferson College, or may transfer any of the general education courses from other institutions, as deemed appropriate by the Registrar. All professional courses (those with OTA prefixes) must be taken at Jefferson College. Graduates from the OT Assistant program have consistently scored higher than the national average on the national certification examination.

Our graduates are generally employed within six weeks of graduation. It is not unusual for employers to contact our OTA Program for recruitment purposes. The program maintains a strong reputation for excellence throughout the state of Virginia and the nation.

OTA Admission Requirements:

Certification and Licensure Information

Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination for the Occupational Therapy Assistant, administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the graduate will be a certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA). In addition, most states require licensure to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT certification examination. A felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure. It is recommended that OTA program applicants who have a felony conviction apply for “Early Determination and Character Review” to determine their potential to sit for the national certification examination.
