Cobb Schools Extend School Day on August 21, 2017, Due to Solar Eclipse

The Cobb County School District has provided safety guidelines to schools for your child to view the solar eclipse with their classmates on August 21, 2017. Along with a delayed release at 4:15 p.m. for high school students, we will alter the regular bell schedule to begin 4th period at 1:30 p.m. to facilitate minimum day students leaving campus and student checkouts before the eclipse is readily visible. Please schedule all student checkouts on August 21, 2017, for no later than 1:30 p.m. We will excuse absences/checkouts on Monday, August 21, 2017, and they will not count against exam exemptions. Parents must be aware of the absence and/or early checkout. Please check your student’s 4th period teacher blog to know if your student’s class is viewing the eclipse outside or in the classroom with the live streaming on IPTV. If your student is going with his or her 4th period class outside to view the solar eclipse, your student must return the parent permission form from the 4th period teacher and purchase his or her own pair of approved solar eclipse glasses. Harrison High School is not providing solar eclipse glasses for students, but we are providing live streaming of the solar eclipse in all classrooms via IPTV.

Bell schedule for the day of the solar eclipse.

For more information regarding the solar eclipse, please visit the National Weather Service website .
