I had never been in a hospice center. I liked this center was really nice. All the staff were very nice and respectful of my situation and my loved one. The place was very clean with many services for families who are facing the death of a relative. Everything was explained to me as what it was ahead of me.

Things to know, if you do have a someone who is going to die, you must know all of their personal information and the funeral arrangements, because as soon as the time comes, you must call the funeral home. There is not waiting time for this.

In care at the Haven was excellent but we had the VNSNY for home hospice care before my husband was admitted. It was horrible and has taken me two years since his death to stop blaming myself for not changing from them to a home hospice agency that really cared about the patient.
He was assigned a nurse that never showed up. We had a different nurse every time and they didn t even come every week.
Jim had kidney cancer that had spread to the lungs and spine. One week when his aid was on vacation, a young woman was sent to take her place. What a disaster. His bed sore became unbearable and he was out of some of his pain medication. There was no consistency of care. No one should ever go through what happened to him under VNSNY in home hospice care.
I m sorry Jim. I should have done more to make them care.

INFORMED CONSENT
Upon entering the facility, I was told that If my husband didn t die, he would have to go to rehab. Not knowing what to do, I had his feeding tube removed
Scott, the representative at NYU langone NEVER informed me that patients were supposed to die within a limited time frame. My husband should have been at Calvary.
They are the representatives of future DEATH PANELS and greedy for money
Don t allow their representatives to not give you complete info on what it means to enter their facility. They will kill your loved one within five days with morphine.
My husband died over three years ago and I still live with the guilt.

The atmosphere here is calming, the facility is new, and the decor is tasteful. Around every turn there is something else to be pleasantly surprised by: live plants, a grand piano, a spa, a children s play area, bird feeders, surround sound in the rooms, stars projected onto the ceiling, the resident therapy pup. However, the real stars here are the staff. They cared for my grandma wonderfully during her final days, and the rest of my family as well. We never felt neglected or out of the loop and they went above and beyond to be sure the entire clan was comfortable. Hospice of Dayton is a very good choice for end-of-life and palliative care. As a nurse, I ve been to several other hospices, and this one outshines the others by far. I recommend this facility without reservation.

Example: There are a few times in life when a meal is so expertly crafted and planned that it is nothing short of genius. Last night, I had one of those meals – the Mahi Mahi.

The dish was excellently prepared. Grilled, juicy, and fresh without a hint of fishiness. A glaze of tangerine sauce brought a hint of tart sweetness. The fish was placed on a mound of sweet plantain rice. The combination of the fish and rice alone was to die for!

However, as only expert chefs can achieve, additional garnishes provided even bolder, beautiful tastes. Pickled onions topping the fish made for an even finer taste experience, while green beans hidden under the fish added freshness and completed each bite

Our Mission – Providing superior care and superior services to honor the lives of patients and families we have the privilege of serving. We guarantee access to superior end-of-life care for all people in the communities we serve, regardless of ability to pay. Our services are available in patient homes, hospitals, extended care and assisted living facilities, and in our two Hospice Houses.

History

Established in 1978.

Hospice of Dayton is a genuine Dayton original. Founder Betty Schmoll led the effort to create a new service to address the needs of those with life-limiting illnesses and solicited support from members of the Miami Valley healthcare community, which contributed resources and nursing staff to establish a non-profit, community supported hospice. Schmoll s innovative and inspirational leadership led to the founding of Hospice of Dayton in 1978. Dayton was one of only a handful of cities across the nation to dedicate resources to such an effort.

Hind s Hospice is a wonderful organization, but its thrift store needs some work. The store has some semblance of organization, but is still very cluttered, especially the furniture and large appliance area. Walk carefully! Clothing is well organized on racks with hangers. Pricing is my greatest complaint. They don t price merchandise to move out quickly to be replaced by newer donations. For example, I found a miniature ceramic house from Dollar Tree ($1.00) priced here at $3.00. I collect board games and found one I was interested in at double the price I can find a new in box copy on Amazon. When I compare this thrift store with the others in the area, such as AMVETS, Salvation Army, and even those horribly-run Goodwill stores, I see there is a different approach to pricing donated goods. And it s not one designed to make money for them.

This is a pretty big thrift store with the most impressive electronics and sports equipment selection I ve ever seen in a used setting. For example, there were tons of big TV s for sale, which were all on (the same channel) to prove that they worked. Also, there were some big gym equipment like cross-bow resistance trainers and I think even cardio stuff like infomercial Tony Gazelles?

Found some pretty lil things like teacups, table napkins and a few clothes. Some of their prices are a little high, some are good. I was glad I found some clothes that were 50%off that day. a pair of womens size(small) pants and 2 tops from $4 each to $2 ea. The store could need need some organizing especially the houseware and furnitures because they re placed everywhere. some are at the front, side and back of the store. The staff are nice. They re helpful especially that one older gentleman last 1/18/2016 at the counter who made sure all of my purchased stuff are wrapped securedly and placed in a box.

Plug G.

There is a lot of stuff here. Most of it belongs in the land fill. You can just tell most of their donations are from folks that want avoid to dump fees, so they bring it here. Everything seems to be broken or missing parts. The few quality, intact, items are WAY overpriced.

For example; Men s pants are $8. That s about twice the going price in other thrift stores.

Many items have no price tags so you have to hunt down an employee to get a price and they act belligerent that you disturbed them from their shelve stocking duties.

Park way behind the place to save your car from getting dinged up. Front parking is tight.

Everglades City Motel

Like a throw back to a forgotten time! Cute little old Florida hotel. Check in was easy and got a map with detailed open/close times for the area. Park in front of your door so unloading luggage was easy! Bathroom was recently remodeled and looked like a 5 star hotel. If in area again I will definitely stay here!

Bikes to use free!

Stop following Nancy H.

Clean, well-maintained and somewhat updated rooms. Beds are comfy. Ice machine continuously beeping for some reason, otherwise pretty quiet.

Was this review ?

Was a little nervous at first because it looks like a hotel from the 50 s.

The front desk was helpful and friendly.

Rooms are extremely clean and modern. It doesn t quite match the retro exterior. Beautiful little courtyard with a grass covered hit, chairs, and picnic tables.

Extremely nice for the price!

After reading the reviews here I had pretty high hopes.

Some of the issues we ran into:

1. I woke up in the morning to find a very large cockroach in my suitcase. I crawled up my arm and according to my Dad, I screamed like a little girl. Nearly 30 years in Florida and I still cannot stand the bloody bastards.

2. The rooms weren t cleaned well. The bathroom floor was never cleaned, as evidenced by the spent contact on the floor next to the toilet. Also, I could feel the grit on my feet.

3. We got there around 3:20pm in the afternoon, and the front desk lady made a semi-big deal about the fact that they don t guarantee the rooms until 4pm. When she checked with housekeeping, the room was indeed finished. She really didn t have a great attitude during the check in process at all.

4. We were in room 10, and the WiFi signal was intermittent. I ended up having to tether to get a signal on my laptop.

5. We checked in on Thursday evening and fished on Friday. A big storm was coming through on Saturday, so we decided to abandon the next two days of fishing. On Friday evening I went down to the front desk to ask them to remove the extra day, but they were closed. I came back in the morning on Saturday, but they were still closed. On the way back to Tampa, I called and got the same woman. I explained what happened, and she said that she d ask the manager and call me back. She never did.

Very nice little place. Very clean, comfortable and accommodating. Looks as if everything has been renovated recently. Don t expect a full kitchenette though. Microwave, dorm style fridge, coffee maker and a small hot plate is what you will get. Area eateries are close so not such a big deal. There is a common area in the middle where there is a grill and tables if you need them.

All in all, perfect for the fishing getaways or just an overnight stay.

We will be back if in the area again.

Was this review ?

A motel that meets and over my expectations.

We checked in this motel in July of 2014.

Pros:
1/
Good in room condition regardless of its motel name.

2/
Fridge and microwave in room.

3/
Quite big room.

Cons:
1/
Poor WiFi and even Poor cellular signal for your phone, so you are feeling isolated.

2/
Mosquitoes will eat you out if you don t clean them out before sleep.
– No blame to this motel though, this is FL after all.

3/
Humidity in restroom and smell a bit even you just checked in.
– Still, welcome to FL, plus hey, you can see lots of bugs you never see elsewhere in your daily life! Yay!

Was this review ?

The staff in the office were excellent, giving us details of shops and restaurants in the area, the password for the free wi-fi, and some other pointers upon arrival.

The building is your typical motel u shape, but the rooms are large and nicely furnished. The room for our group of four people had two large comfy beds, TV with cable, fridge, microwave, air-con, and a dining area. The bathrooms are large, with quality stone surfaces and tiles, plenty of soap/shampoo/body wash, and a feel that is far and beyond many hotels I have stayed in.

Housekeeping was exemplary, with crisp white sheets (surely a recipe for disaster in a motel??) clean floors and surfaces, and a spotless bathroom. The housekeeper left a small handwritten note outlining her gratitude for any tips left by guests- and we were happy to contribute.

Was this review ?

Great! Especially for a motel. The room was very clean and moden looking.

The room came with a bed with real covers, modern bathroom, free wifi, TV with Bravo (my fav channel and rare to come by in hotels), microwave and small fridge.

Unfortunately, our room had a smokey smell. We weren t able to switch rooms because the place was fully booked. However, the next day, when I went to check out, I was given $10 as refund. I didn t even ask for it! That was extremely thoughtful.

Was this review ?

Clean, modern, very friendly. The walls could indead be thicker, but I was lucky and my neighbours weren t that loud.
In the standard rooms you get a little kitchen (no stove, that comes with the better rooms), TV, wifi and great bathrooms. I haven t seen any like these in a motel before.
The people in the office were really friendly and super helpful, I have a dozen maps and lists of attractions now.

Was this review ?

I did not actually stay there. I had a reservation but cancelled it about 13 days in advance. Then the night I would have been arriving, they called to ask if I was coming. I explained that I had cancelled and they said they had no record of that and that they would have to charge me unless I could produce a phone record of the conversation. I had never accessed those types of records, so it took me quite a while. When I emailed them the proof, rather than an apology, they said, That s OK, we cancelled the reservation for you , as though they were doing me a favor.

We were coming down from the Rocky Mountains National Park and got caught in the dark with a winding mountain road ahead of us, so we decided to stay in the town of Granby.

The service was great–typical small-town hospitality. We were recommended by the Chinese restaurant in town, just up the street, and as a result the innkeeper gave us a discount off the regular room rate. We had to take care of some work, so he also gave us the room closest to the wireless router in his office, so that we could have the best signal for the net.

The room was cute and clean, with a refrigerator and microwave–a plus, since motels typically don t come with appliances anymore. Great place to keep the Chinese restaurant leftovers 🙂 A bonus is that the room is just steps from a spectacular view of the night sky. Cassiopeia and Hercules were clearly visible 🙂

Caveat: the inn (and the whole town for that matter) is next to a railroad track, so if you can t sleep with trains passing every once in a while, keep driving. Not the inn s fault, though.

In short, it s more than what you would expect from a cheap motel in a random mountain village. Fun fact: Granby was the home of the Killdozer. Never heard of it? Look it up on YouTube.

Doesn t even deserve the one star. But, since negative astral images aren t an option. We made reservations. The local number went to a personal voice mail. Ok, it was obviously a misprint. Called the 800 number and other than the woman who answered sounding unorganized, we got the job done. Check in after 2, they said. We show up at 2:45pm. There is a note saying they will be back at 3 and that all confirmed reservations will be checked in. They, a carload of 4 people, showed up at 4:15pm. We were getting ready to call the police thinking something must have happened to them (accident, etc. ). The woman behind the counter appeared high or drunk. No apologies, no explanations. Needless to say, we cancelled our reservations. STAY AWAY FROM HOMESTEAD HELL!

Optimal hospice is very fast on the get-go. I had an admit. nurse at my house within 8 hours of calling.
My 93+ grandparent needed immediate hospice care. Thankfully their quality of life is improving by the day. They kept my grandparent very comfortable in their time of crisis. I would definitely label this comfort care and would recommend to others in my situation. Relief for full time non paid family caregiver .

Only reason for 4/5 stars vs full stars is that we on occasion have scheduling conflicts.

Medicare fraud! This organization is so fraudulent it makes me sick. They make Kaiser patient think they have no other choice but to go on their hospice which is illegal. All patients have a choice do not let them fool you. They send their marketers out to do assessments when In fact per medicare guidelines it must be a clinician. I will be filing a formal complaint with Medicare and California department of public health today.

We found much of the staff to be extremely unprofessional – care givers who made wildly inappropriate and offensive comments (related to my loved one and I being of different races), staff who consistently showed up late and once didn t show at all until we called (apparently our time had no value to them), and medical advice that was contrary to our wish of providing the utmost care to our loved one.

At one point we ran a medication change the hospice doctor recommended past our hospital physicians who told us in no uncertain terms to NOT follow the hospice doctor s advice as there would be immediate health consequences to our loved one. After that, we ran all medications and care questions through our personal physicians only.

In terms of the timeliness with which problems with medication refills and equipment orders/issues were dealt with we d rate them a D. There was very much an attitude of we can call tomorrow to get that. . The last time they gave us response it had to do with equipment that helped us monitor medication dosages – NOT something that can wait till tomorrow!

We did have one care provider that was exceptional but I m afraid that one person was not always our primary care contact. In addition, Capital Caring did provide medical equipment and checked our loved one s vitals 2-3 times a week (when we left the hospital we were told they d come 5 days a week but that s another story).

We went with Capital Caring because they were the only option the hospital gave us per our insurance. We hope that other families, given a choice, will have the opportunity to consider a wider range of options.

Ascot Motel

Don t see what all the complaining is about.

80/holiday wknd came with 1 queen bed, tv w cable + HBO working remote. fridge, microwave, funky blankets brightly colored walls, no noise, clean EVERYTHING (save 1/4 towels). no bed bugs or pests, a full mirror across from the bed in case of good times.

Oh, and only blocks from the casinos.

How can one ask for more?

Rolled into AC for the weekend with some friends. Needed a place to stay for the night. Wanted something cheap since we only needed a place to sleep. Drove up Pacific Ave and checked out Howard Johnson and the Super 8 Motel on Tennessee Ave. Both places were cheap but seeing the number of dark and dirty folks walking around (plus an old, busted prostitute), we decided to head a little south towards the center of the strip.

Drove to the Ascot since it was also cheap. Not swanky in the least but not as shady as the places further north. It s caddy-corner from the Tropicana and less than a 30-second walk to the boardwalk. It comes out where that statue of the man chasing the woman is.

Two queen beds with sheets that didn t look too clean, a bathroom with no fan, a heater with a broken knob (had to unplug it to keep from cooking ourselves in the room), and a chain-lock on the door with no latch. The TV though was decent as it had premium movie channels. We were right next to the pool but it was covered up as it was still early April. There were security cameras on the parking lot that the front-desk guy could keep an eye on. Don t know if they actually recorded anything but you could see it live on his screen.

All in all, I wouldn t recommend this place but it still wasn t bad. I may stay here again for its cheapness but I d prefer to find a nicer place up north near the Wild Wild West Casino at Bally s. Love that casino!

This Motel deserves a 1 star rating in my honest opinon and my personal experience but I gave it 2 only because it had a nice pool which most motels in AC don t have.

I stayed at this motel for 3 nights with my husband for our yearly trip down to AC for my birthday. We have stayed at other motels off the boardwalk and never had any bad experiences. I am not a snob and was not expecting the motel to be like the Hilton or Tropicana for the price that we paid but it wasn t the best experience that we had. Here s the run-down: 1. We found two moths, a mosquito some dead ants (?) and a spider in our room (bathroom and window ledge) which means that the rooms are not cleaned as they should. 2. We had to ask the cleaning staff for clean towels, additional bars of soap and shampoo when our room wasn t cleaned by 4 pm on our second day there. 3. The remote to the TV didn t work except to change the channel. 4. The continental breakfast only included juice, coffee and some rolls. \ With this said, we will not be returning to the Ascot.

The few perks – The staff were pleasant and were quick to try to make us comfortable after we complained. Also, the rooms came with a refrigerator which is a nice amenity if you re staying for longer than we did. The air conditioner works almost too well. It was too cold in our room after it was cleaned but you are able to adjust it which was nice. Lastly, the pool which stayed open until 10 pm every night.

If you re looking for a 5 Star Casino type hotel. this place is NOT for you. However, if you re an individual or family on a budget, this place is just fine. My wife and I stayed here last week for a few days. This is one of the only motels in Atlantic City that actually have a swimming pool, in which many people took advantage of. The owner is Indian, and it was sometimes very hard to communicate with him. Upon arrival, our room was clean and decent. However, we did have to kill a dead moth on the shower head (big deal, they get in when the maids clean the rooms). The bedding was nice and clean. The television had all the cable channels plus HBO, however the remote didn t work (had to change channels manually) The air conditioner can be set to the temperature you prefer and it worked great. The door was very secure, and also had a security chain as well as the regular lock. It was surprisingly very quiet at night (walls were pretty thick). They charged us about $75 per night on the 2 weekday nights we stayed there, however the rate jumped to $140 for Friday night. still much cheaper than staying in a casino. They also had a semi-complimentary breakfast, with just rolls, bagels, and juice. But, we preferred eating at the Country Kitchen on the boardwalk and Dunkin Donuts 3 blocks away. Normal check in time is at 3pm, but they let us check in as early as 2pm without giving us a problem. My only major complaint was that they DID NOT clean our room the first TWO nights we stayed there. On the third day, we demanded that our room get cleaned and also spoke to the maid in person to remind them. So, that was inconvenient since we were constantly dragging in sand from the beach. We got the feeling that they ONLY clean the rooms when someone checks out OR by request if you re staying more than one night. Oh. yes there are hookers outside sometimes, but this is the case all over Atlantic City and even at the classy Casino Hotels, so you ll see them no matter where you choose to stay.

i see what the bad reviews were about and i think mine tops the list. we went to the front to check in and were told to park around back and walk in the side entrance. the side entrance was a dirty disgusting narrow alley way that we could barely walk thru. we walked up the first flight to our room and were greeted by open doors full of young guys and girls smoking marijuana. yup right there in the open, doors wide open, walking around the floor with it openly displayed. that should have been my first sign to run far in the other direction. wait. it gets worse. not only did our room and floor reek of weed and yes it s open..that s how bad it is. but we get into our room and we specifically asked for queen size beds, there were 4 of us, 2 girls in each bed. the beds were barely FULL. we decided to make the best of it. went out to dinner had drinks and hung out at tropicana for a bit and then decided to hit the sack after being out for a few hours. we come back..greeted by the same losers still in their rooms still smoking pot and we literally almost run into our room after being semi harassed by these freaks. we go in and start settling in when we hear the bathroom door slam and my friend is running out half naked. it gets better. there s a RAT in our bathroom. a FREAKIN RAT now trapped and scurrying around the bathroom. on the second floor. are you kidding me. that was the last straw. we got our stuff together called the front desk and told them the situation. they refused to give us our money back at first so i hung up told them we would be leaving and reporting them to the credit card company to get our money back. minutes later we hear a knock on the door, it s the manager, he s offering us half our money back. we took it and high tailed it out of there. i still intend on calling the card company for the other half, it s bull to pay for something we did not even stay at. needless to say we will NEVER be back..if you re even considering a stay here. run far in the other direction. you ll be better off sleeping on the boardwalk with the stray cats. don t do what we did. we tried to save a little money and wound up with a ruined weekend and driving home in the middle of the night. spend a little more. you get what you pay for definitely applies here. if you re a pot smoking loser then you ll fit right in.

The only reason this place gets 2 stars is because of how close it is to the beach and the some of the strip casinos. pretty much across the street.

But overall, this is a place i would avoid unless options were very limited. For over $150/night you dont get much except for a moderately clean place. The room was very old and pretty run down, the bathroom looked like it had been built in 1950 and the TV and furniture were very outdated.

if you dont want to spend and arm and a leg, this place will do.

Manhattan Beach Motel

Let me preface this review by letting you know that I ve been living here for about a month now while I search for the perfect place in Los Angeles.

If you re looking for a no frills, quick place to stay the weekend for a reasonable price in Northern Manhattan Beach, you ve found it.

If you re looking for luxury and 10,000 thread count sheets with a fire cyclone and marble. You better go somewhere else.

David does a good job of turning a place around that has been run to the ground by prior management with shady practices. David has made it a safe, affordable, quiet place to stay/ live. He has a knack for cutting out those with bad intentions, and it shows for those of us that have been living here temporarily.

It s not the nicest. It still holds the scars of managers and bad tenants past, but as the new season comes, so do the improvements. If you look past the things that need to be improved, you ll be satisfied for a few days here. I mean, you re vacationing in effing Manhattan Beach. Why would you stay in your room?

The neighborhood is safe, and everyone knows everyone. If your intentions are bad, they will be discovered quickly. Just don t try it.

Infamous one sentence review of Manhattan Beach Motel.

Don t bring your high horse because there is not enough room for it anyway. It s an affordable, quiet room in a good part of town.

(that was two but for Christ s sake. I live here)

I ve been here 3 times. You should easily find it when your either coming off the Bronx river parkway by car or metro north train at the Woodlawn station.

it s by the hour starting from $35 for 3 hours and for each additional hour it goes up by 10 bucks with the max being 8 hours even on weekends (do not ask for overnight stays. they just point you to the rates on the window)

it s in a quiet area and they have plenty of rooms. they have a vendor machine full of snacks and Trojans. need any snacks your next to a gas station that has dunkin donuts inside.

you get the basic bed basic motel tv package includes pornos. rooms are clean every time i go there. so far no bed bugs and no problems with staff

staff will call you 15-30 minutes before you leave and will call again when time is up.

good spot to be in when you need a short stay

I went to the river road motor inn yesterday and I gotta say besides the fact that the man in front had zero customer service and the place only took cash and made me go on their ATM which charged 2.95 (more than Manhattan ATM prices) I had a pretty enjoyable time. The room was nice and clean and comfortable. I def
would come again just hope there s another guy checking me in

I m not sure about overnight stays, but 3 hours will cost you only $35. The rooms are clean and decent sized with a bathroom in each one. Bathrooms are fully equipped with sink, toilet, and tub (shower too).

Optimal Hospice Care
