Free Backup Software & Data Protection: FBackup #backup #software,fbackup,free #backup #software,free #backup,free

Free Backup Software

Main Features

It’s free for personal and commercial purposes

FBackup is a backup software free for both commercial and personal use. This means that you can save some money by not having to buy another backup program.

  • Automatic backups

You define a backup job, set it to run automatically, and forget about it. FBackup will automatically run the backup at the scheduled date, so you have the benefits not only of having your data protected, but you’ll also save precious time.

  • Backup with standard zip compression

When using “full backup”, the sources will be archived using standard zip compression. FBackup uses ZIP64 compression, which means that it can create zip files over 2GB in size. Also, you can password protect your backup zip files.

  • Exact copies of files

If you don’t want to have the files stored in one zip file, FBackup can make exact copies of the backup sources using “mirror backup”. Since FBackup will also back up empty folders, you can use this backup type to create in the destination a “mirror” copy of the original files. So it’s not only a file backup software.

  • Protection against WannaCry & other ransomware

WannaCry Ransomware is one of the most aggressive crypto-viruses and FBackup protects your data against it. With FBackup you can create backups of your important data and store those online in Google Drive. This way, even if your data gets encrypted by WannaCry or other ransomware viruses, you’ll still have uninfected copies stored online.

    • Easy to use

The main functions of a backup program are backing up and restoring. These are very easy to run with FBackup by using the included backup wizard. Just start the wizard, select What, Where, How and When to run the backup and you’re all set. For restoring you just need to open the restore wizard and you’ll be asked where you want the restore data to be saved (original location, different one. ).

    • Run actions before/after backup

For each backup job, you can define an action to execute before or after the backup. For example, you can select “Clear backup” before the backup runs, so that all the previous backed up files will be cleared before loading the new ones. As an after-backup action, you can set it to stand by, log off, hibernate or even shut down the computer once the backup has successfully finished.

    • Automatic updates

FBackup automatically checks for updates weekly, so you’ll know when a new version is released. The option to check for updates can be disabled, but we recommend that it is enabled so that FBackup will be up-to-date.

    • Multiple backup destinations

By default, your backups will be stored on the local Windows partition. To be sure you have a secure backup, we highly recommend you to store the backups on other destinations supported by FBackup (such as an external USB/Firewire drive, or on a mapped network drive). This way, if your computer suffers a hardware failure, you’ll have your data safe on an external location.

    • Backups in the Cloud

With FBackup you can back-up your files and folders in the Cloud to your existing Google Drive account. Simply connect your account with FBackup and you’ll be able to use it as a Cloud destination. This lets you combine the best of both worlds, your favorite free backup program with world-renowed free cloud storage.

    • Backup plugins

You can load plugins for backing up or restoring specific program settings or other custom data (like game saves, email data, etc.). Once loaded in FBackup, these plugins will list the sources needed to be backed up for that particular program in “Predefined Backups.” You can see a list of all the available backup plugins here: Free Backup Plugins

    • Backup open files

If a file is in use by another program at the time of the backup, FBackup will still be able to back up that file, because it uses the Volume Shadow Service that Windows provides. So, as long as you’re using Windows 10, 8/8.1, 7, Vista, XP, 2012/2008/2003 Server (32/64-bit), FBackup will back up those open files. As an example, you will be able to back up your Outlook emails and settings without closing the program first.

    • Multi-language

You can choose a language for the user interface from the languages currently supported. If you want to help us translate the website or its interface into another language, you can do so by visiting the Languages page.

FBackup is a free data backup software, it is not recommended for full system backup (disk image backups).

    How Do Cash-Back Credit Card Rewards Programs Work? #cash #back, #rewards, #credit

How Do Cash-Back Credit Card Rewards Programs Work?

By Brandon Cornett | June 15, 2014 | 2014, All rights reserved | Duplication prohibited

If you’re over the age of 18, and you have a mailbox, you’ve probably received an offer for a cash-back credit card rewards program. Or perhaps you’ve seen the advertised online. They are one of the most popular types of credit cards in use today.

But what are they, exactly? How do they work? And what else do you need to know about them, as a consumer? Those are some of the questions we will answer in this tutorial. Here’s an in-depth look at how cash-back credit cards work.

What is a Cash-Back Rewards Program?

Let’s start with the basics. What is a cash-back rewards program? Basically, it’s an incentive in which the credit card company offers to “pay” you a certain percentage for using your card to make purchases. Often, the issuer will charge a higher interest rate in exchange for the “reward” features.

The details vary from one program to the next, but in general it works like this: You use your cash-back rewards card to make occasional purchases, as you would with any other type of card. Then, at the end of each year (or annual billing period), the company gives a certain percentage of your expenditure back to you in the form of a rebate.

How Do These Credit Cards Work?

In a typical rewards program, the cardholder might receive anywhere from 0.5% to 2% of the net expenditure (minus any refunds). This annual rebate could be credited back to the card, or paid to the customer directly in the form of a check. In other cases, the cash-back reward can be provided via electronic deposit to the consumer’s checking or savings account.

It varies by card, so make sure you know how and when the rebate will be applied.

As mentioned earlier, there are many types of rewards programs, and the details vary with each. Here are some of the most common features :

    • Some of these cards offer the cardholder 1% back on all purchases, along with a 50% bonus on cash back earned annually.
    • Other cash-back rewards programs offer different levels / percentages of rebates for different types of purchases.
    • A common strategy is to offer a lower reward percentage for the most common types of purchases, thereby reducing the amount the company has to pay back to the cardholder each year.
    • Some cards take these restrictions a step further by limiting cash-back rewards to certain “qualified purchases,” which might exclude the most common and popular types of transactions. Stated differently, they offer rewards for the least popular types of purchases in order to reduce their costs.

Be Aware: You May Pay a Higher Interest Rate

A survey conducted by the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation in Massachusetts found that customers who use credit cards with cash-back rewards often pay a price for the questionable benefits of such a card. In short, you may be charged a higher interest rate to compensate for the amount that is rebated back to you each year. In essence, these companies charge more to cover the losses (rebates) associated with a cash-back rewards program.

Specifically, the survey revealed that “rewards cards tend to have higher interest rates than non-rewards cards, and those with lower annual percentage rates (APRs) offer the rate based on an individual’s creditworthiness.”

A non-rewards credit card with a lower interest rate may be a better strategy in the long run, particularly for consumers who tend to carry a balance from one payment period to the next. Due to the higher APRs they usually carry, a rewards program card might cost more, annually, despite the amount that is rebated back each year.

As a cardholder, the best thing you can do is consider your spending habits, and find a card that will benefit you most based on those patterns. It might be a cash-back credit card, or a non-rewards product with a lower APR. You have to think about how you will use it, and how much it will cost you over the long run.

Additionally, if you are already struggling with debt, you should resist the urge to spend more just to earn rewards. This is a flawed strategy from a personal finance standpoint.

Do You Really Make Money’ With Them?

Can you really make money from using a cash-back rewards card? This is a common question among our readers. Unfortunately, the answer is usually no. The companies that design these cards are very shrewd. They know how to design products that appear to give you one thing, when they actually take something else.

For instance, rewards cards usually charge a higher APR than regular cards. As a result, you might end up paying more interest on your balance than the amount you get rebated back to you each year. In this kind of scenario, you are basically paying a lot more money to have a smaller amount credited back to you. They are cleverly designed financial products.

Before you sign up for a cash-back credit card, ask the issuer the following questions:

    • How can I earn and redeem my rewards?
    • What types of purchases are eligible for the cash-back feature?
    • Are my rewards available monthly or annually?
    • Does the money go into my bank account, or is it applied to my next bill?
    • Are there any limits or restrictions on the rewards I can earn with this card?

Additionally, make sure you read all the terms and conditions on the card to see if the product will actually save you money over the long term (based on your spending and purchasing habits). In other words, read the fine print!

    Mainline Backwater Valves and backflow prevention valves #backwater #valves,sewer,sewage,check #valves,floor #drain #backwater

Backwater Valves; presenting the new, innovative valve product designed to more economically solve flooded basement and sewer backup problems.

Raw sewage in your basement. Can you imagine it spewing out of your toilets, shower stalls and sinks? With record high precipitation in many parts of the nation, some families have experienced such unfortunate events. These backups not only cause damage that is difficult to repair, but also create dangerous health hazards. A floor drain backwater valve or mainline backwater valve can save the day. These check valves are also sometimes referred to as backflow prevention valves or backflow preventer valves .

While cities and municipalities work relentlessly to clean and inspect sewer main lines, it is still possible for a sewer main to plug up and allow water and sewage to flow into the dwellings it serves. But help is here! By installing the award winning Mainline Fullport Backwater Valve (sometimes referred as a Backflow Preventer ) in the main line to the sewer, property owners reduce their exposure to such an incident to almost nothing.

Who’s at risk? Your home or building may be susceptible to sewage backups if the lowest drain is less than 24 above the nearest upstream manhole. Most building codes require owners to install a backflow prevention valve to minimize the chance of flooding at properties with drains that meet the specification mentioned above.

How does it work? A backwater valve can be installed in the basement at the exit point from the home or building, or in the sewer lateral outside of the building.

The “lateral” is the underground pipe that carries sewage from private property to the citys sewer main. The backflow valve is installed downstream and prevents sewage from backing up into the lateral beyond ( above ) this valve.

( SPECIAL OFFER. Access Box at reduced charge with the purchase of a 4963 ABS or PVC Backwater valve – an $89.00 value)

When installing in a lateral, the backwater valve is placed in an access box to make maintenance easy.

Backflow prevention valves (and all safety check valves for that matter) should be inspected on a quarterly basis and anytime you think they have closed. With our award-winning design, patented backflow valve, you can simply look through the clear plastic lid for easy visual inspection and remove the screw-off cap to clean out any debris!

Note: This type of check valve should not be confused with and does not replace the sewer trap that prevents sewer gas from entering a building where it is installed.

    Measurements, Specifications and IAPMO Certifications

Be sure to check with the plumbing authority in the municipality in which your valve is to be installed to insure that your installation is in compliance with local code, and be sure have your valve inspected by your local plumbing inspector after installation. Inspect your valve frequently; the Backwater Valve through its clear plastic housing top, and the Adapt-A-Valve, by removing the gate cassette.

Pipe end-to-end, the Adapt-A-Valve takes up 6 of run in your line and the outlet is 1-1/2 LOWER than the inlet, so in just 6 the level of the pipe at the outlet side needs to be 1-1/2 lower.

Pipe end-to-end, the Backwater Valve takes up 12 of run in your line and the outlet is 3/4 LOWER than the inlet, so in just 12 the level of the pipe at the outlet side needs to be 3/4 lower.

Depending upon the amount of slope in your line (2% minimum is required for proper operation), you may need to replace several feet of pipe downstream from the valve to average out this loss of fall.

NOTE: New Straight-Fit and ML-FR4 require less slope. (refer to detail pages for these products)

    Cash Back Credit Cards #credit #card #with #cash #back #rewards

    Cash Back Credit Cards

Do they all work the same way?

The most straightforward cash back credit cards pay back a fixed rate percentage on all purchases made. This can provide an easy form of reward, without the need to focus on spending at specific stores or working out how best to increase the rate of cash back. Selected retailer cash back cards provide a bonus rate for shopping at participating outlets. Some credit cards also feature a tiered program, in which different size purchases receive a higher or lower percentage cash back rate depending on the particular deal.

Or another way that cash back cards work is to give new cardholders a lump sum credited to your account when you get approved for the card or when you start to use the card in a store.

How much cash back can I expect to earn?

While the rates vary greatly between different offers, you can typically expect to receive 0.5% or 1% cash back on a flat-rate deal, rising to 5% or even 10% with participating retailer programs or during bonus periods.

Is there a cap on how much is paid back?

What other factors should I consider while selecting a cash back card?

It is very important to look at all the features of cash back credit cards before applying to make sure the deal will be genuinely beneficial:

Annual fee: Calculate your estimated annual spend and how much cash back this earns, and compare this figure with the annual fee. If the annual fee is greater, then you are not going to get any benefit from the card.

Interest rate: Cash back credit cards often feature a relatively high interest rate, which is applied to any outstanding balance on your account. If for any reason you are unable to pay your monthly bill in full, a high rate could quickly negate the savings you make on the cash back.

Introductory offers: Many cash back cards offer an introductory promotion of a bonus cash back rate for an initial period, typically a few months. Check to see how the rate changes at the end of the promotion.

Balance transfers: These cards also often feature the option to transfer a balance so you can repay your existing credit card debt at a lower rate. You should be aware that balances transferred do not earn any cash back, and if your priority is repaying your debt, you are probably better off choosing a different type of card with a better balance transfer deal.

Restrictions and penalties: Banks often impose restrictions on how much can be earned per month, the types of purchases that are applicable and penalties for missing payments or misusing your account. Study all the terms and conditions to ensure you can get the best return.

    Quickbooks over VPN? Archive – Micro Focus Forums #operations, #work, #quickbooks, #long,

    05-Apr-2005, 07:16 PM

I recently set up our new accountant with the BM vpn and NW clients so that
she might be able to access our quickbooks 2000 database via a mapped drive
while connected to our BM3.7 server. She can connect fine, and althought QB
(a known resource hog) is fairly slow for most common operations over the
vpn (both client and server have SDSL connections over 500kbps), it is not
entirely unworkable. SOME particular operations, however, take an
IMPOSSIBLY long time (especially find operations in the records DB),
literally many, many orders of magnitude slower than everything else.

Is this really just due to the number of drive accesses involved in these
operations, or is there some other buggy issue at work here?

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot/work around this problem effectively?
We are really trying to avoid having to shutdown/lock the QB system long
enough for our accountant to copy the DB to a local machine, do her work,
and then write it back out to our system. We really need a way for her to
be able to work remotely AND concurrently with the rest of us.

Many, many thanks in advance for any help.

You will probably need to take some traces (Ethereal on the PC’s
involved) to see what kind of traffic is involved. Might be as simple
as needing to reduce MTU size on one or both ends of that connection.

Perhaps simpler would be to use pcANYWHERE, VNC or terminal server/RDP
to remote control an internal PC over the VPN to do the work remotely.

My experience with Quickbooks over a lan is that the newer versions can be a
little slow as it is. I would venture to say that there is just way too
much data to push through that small DSL pipe.

    14-Apr-2005, 04:07 PM

Thanks for the input Craig and JP,

I apologize for my own sluggish response. I actually found a post on
another site that echoed Craig’s suggestion of running quickbooks on a local
machine and having the remote client connect to it using pcAnywhere or the
like so that all the heavy drive accesses remain local. I’m going to give
    that a try.

    Thanks again for the help,

    BackupAssist – System State backup and restore #backupassist, #backup #assist, #backup, #back

    System State backup and restore

What’s included in a System State backup?

The exact system components that make up your machine’s System State depend on the operating system installed and how it is has been configured. A System State backup generally includes a copy of any installed device drivers and related files, most of the Windows directory, the Windows Registry, the Active Directory configuration (where applicable) and system files under Windows File Protection.

System State backups for Vista and Server 2008 are usually between 7GB and 15 GB and for XP and Server 2003, they are generally much smaller, being between 200MB and 300 MB. Many files in the Windows directory have multiple hard links. If you are backing up the System State using the File Replication Engine or the Rsync Engine and have Single Instance Store enabled, only a single copy of each multiply linked file will be stored on your backup destination. This data does not need to be copied on subsequent backups, which reduces backup times and saves storage space on your destination.

Why is a System State backup useful?

From a System State backup you can restore your Windows system settings in the event of a system failure or corruption. A System State backup is therefore particularly important for disaster recovery purpose as it eliminates you having to reconfigure Windows back to its original state before the system failure occurred.

We recommended that you always have a recent backup of your System State and that you should perform System State backups on a regular basis, even daily, to increase your level of protection. We also recommended that you perform System State backups before and after any major change is made to your server.

How to back up the System State

With BackupAssist v6 you can schedule local* ‘System State only’ backups across all modern Windows operating systems, or even back up the System State as part of a larger backup including files and applications, using File Replication, Zip, or Windows Imaging. A System State backup includes important Windows systems settings, such as the Registry, and is crucial for system recovery.

*BackupAssist cannot be used to back up the System State of a remote machine; you must install BackupAssist on each server of which you require a System State backup.

Complete the following steps to configure a BackupAssist job to back up the local machine’s System State:

    1. Launch BackupAssist and either edit an existing File Replication, Zip or Imaging job by selecting Edit from the top menu and choosing the appropriate job, or create a new File Replication, Zip or Imaging job by going to File New backup job .
    2. If you are creating a new job check the Backup local system state option during the Files and Folders step of the Job Creation Wizard.
    3. If you are editing an existing job select Files and folders from the left menu, click the Local system selections tab, and then enable the Backup local system state option .

How to restore the System State

Complete the following steps to restore the System Stattefrom a BackupAssist backup using the BackupAssist Restore Console:

    • Note. you cannot restore the System State from an Image backup using the BackupAssist Restore Console. You must use the built-in Windows tool, wbadmin. Visit for instructions.
    1. In BackupAssist, Click Restore in the top navigation bar and choose the BackupAssist Restore Console .
    2. Click Load all known backups to load all backup catalogues located in the BackupAssist settings folder, or use the Browse option to locate the backup set from which you want to restore.
    3. Choose the job that corresponds to the backup from which you want to restore the System State
    4. Use the calendar to select the date of the backup from which you wish to restore.
      • Note. dates for which backups are available are marked in bold on the calendar.
    5. Use the middle pane to expand the loaded backup set and select the System State to restore.
      • Note. files located on the Windows system drive (C: drive in the example above) may be available for restore, even though only the System State was selected for backup. These files are associated with the System State. If you choose to restore individual files from this list and not the System State, the System State will not be restored, and the files themselves may not restore correctly. If you choose to restore these files together with the System State, the System State option will override selections where there is an overlap. If you want to perform a full restore and are unsure which files are included in the System State we recommend selecting both the System State and all other files listed.
    6. Once you have made your selections click the Restore to button on the bottom right of the window.
    7. The restore confirmation screen will then load:
You can choose to restore the System State either to its original location or to an alternate location of your choosing. If you select an alternate location click [. ] to set an alternate restore path.
    8. Once you have selected where to restore the System State to, click OK to perform the restore.
      • Note. if you are restoring the System State to a machine that hosts Directory Services, you will be prompted to reboot into the Directory Services Restore Mode.
      • Note. During a System State restore the necessary files are copied to a temporary directory and then moved to their correct location after a reboot of the machine. Before the restore starts, the Restore Console will take a VSS snapshot of the volumes to be restored. This allows the user to manually roll back to a pre-restore state, if necessary, using Windows’ previous versions feature.

Will Your Short Sale Have Tax Consequences? #owing #back #taxes

Will Your Short Sale Have Tax Consequences?

Many homeowners facing foreclosure opt to go the short sale route. In a nutshell, a short sale is an agreement between the homeowner and the mortgage lender, whereby the mortgage lender allows the homeowner to sell the home for an amount less than what is actually owed on the mortgage loan.

    Short Sale Deficiencies

In a short sale, the difference between the total debt and the sale price is the “deficiency.” For example, say your lender approves a short sale in the amount of $200,000, but you owe $225,000 on the mortgage. The difference ($25,000) is the deficiency. In many states, the lender can seek a personal judgment against you after the short sale to recover the deficiency amount. The lender can also choose to forgive this amount.

You May Owe Taxes on Forgiven Mortgage Debt

If your mortgage lender forgives the deficiency after a short sale, you may owe taxes on the forgiven amount because it’s considered income by the IRS. The rationale behind this is that a borrower who is relieved from the obligation to repay a debt has, in essence, received income. For a homeowner struggling to make ends meet, the prospect of owing money to the IRS makes a short sale much less inviting.

    Mortgage Foregiveness Debt Relief Act

You may be able to exclude all or a portion of the forgiven amount from your income under the federal Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007, if all of the following requirements are met:

    • The forgiven debt was used to buy, build, or substantially improve your principal residence or to refinance debt incurred for those purposes.
    • The debt was forgiven in calendar years 2007 through 2013. (Congress is considering a bill, the Tax Extenders Act of 2013 [S. 1859]. that would extend the Act through 2014.)
    • The discharge was directly related to a decline in your home’s value or your financial condition.

Up to $2 million of forgiven debt qualifies for the exclusion. However, the maximum exclusion for married taxpayers filing separately is $1 million.

What Doesn’t Qualify for Debt Relief?

Debt forgiven on second homes, vacation homes, and rental properties does not qualify for the exclusion. Additionally, canceled debt on credit cards and auto loans does not qualify.

    Debt Excluded from Taxable Income

There are several instances when the IRS does not require cancelled debt to be treated as income:

    2. If at the time the debt is canceled the taxpayer is insolvent, he or she is not required to report the forgiven debt as income. A person is considered insolvent if his or her total debt exceeds the fair market value of all his or her assets.

    3. The third exception to the rule that canceled debt is taxable involves certain farm debts. If the debt was incurred directly as a result of operation of a farm, the taxpayer derived more than half his income from the three prior years from farming, and the loan is owed to a person or entity that is regularly engaged in the business of lending money, canceled debt is generally not considered taxable income.

    4. Non-recourse debt which is forgiven is not treated as taxable income.

A short sale negotiation can be very time consuming, and any homeowner considering a short sale is advised to consider the tax implications of a short sale before finalizing the deal with the lender.
