I’ve been staying here regularly for over 40 years and it doesn’t rest on it’s laurels. The Europa stays ahead of the times constantly, I love this place, location, friendly welcome, food and well planned bedrooms.

        Guest Relations Manager

        Europa hotel belfast

Back in Belfast after 9 years for another conference with the Europa as its base.

Struggling to find items to criticise. Staff friendly are friendly and helpful. The bedrooms are large and comfortable, with comfortable beds and unlike many hotels enough chairs, plus, unlike many places, the lighting is bright enough. Bathrooms are well equipped. My room faced the internal area and no noise issues.

As was a conference, we had our own lunch arrangements – which were fine. I was only there for one (buffet style) breakfast and there was a good choice of either traditional cooked breakfast items or ‘continental’.

        Only two grouses were:

The lifts seem to have a mind of their own – you select the floor no. before getting aboard but doesn’t always work. Especially If attending a conference, the check-out deadline is too early.

A comment about hire cars (taxis) in the city. Value Cabs seem to have ‘gone back in the betting’. For the journey home; We had booked to go to the City Airport but 20 mins. after scheduled time no car! Luckily a hackney cab had dropped off at the hotel and the driver (unfortunately can’t remember the company) offered to take us. Because he was able to use the bus lanes so, despite the ‘rush hour’, we got to the airport on time. We later heard that Value Cabs had a shortage of drivers and that might have been the reason for the problem we had.

Belfast is the largest city in Northern Ireland. It’s also an up-and-coming tourist destination with great choice in shopping, entertainment and a lively nightlife. The people of Belfast are warm and friendly and there are plenty of attractions to keep you going, whether travelling as a family, a couple, alone or with friends. Cheap flights to Belfast are available all year round and great deals on quality accommodation can always be found on Hotels.com.

Belfast is a compact, accessible city with some impressive, historical sights. One of the best ways to see Belfast is on foot, taking in landmarks such as Belfast Castle, built in 1870; Queen’s University, with its beautiful Oxbridge-inspired buildings and grounds; St Anne’s Cathedral, a striking Hiberno-Romanesque building containing some remarkable works of art; and the Titanic Quarter, newly refurbished for the centenary of the ‘Ship of Dreams’. Guided walking tours are a good way to learn more about the city and its history. Another good way to get around is to take a Value Cab Taxi Tour, saving your feet and covering more ground. Alternatively, take a boat tour around the Titanic Quarter, a great way to take in the historic sights at the birthplace of the great ship.

If it’s retail therapy you need, Belfast has some great high street and designer stores, with something for everyone. Victory Square Shopping Centre is a favourite, with over 50 stores, cafés and restaurants, proving the perfect indoor retail experience. There is also a cinema on site to keep members of the family who are not interested in shopping entertained. If you fancy something more rustic, Belfast has some great markets including St. George’s Market, housed in a beautiful Victorian building that dates back to the 1890s. This has become a popular tourist attraction for visitors to the city. The Friday Variety Market at St. George’s opens from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. and has everything from knick-knacks, second-hand clothes and antiques to fresh fish, fruit and vegetables. On Saturdays at St. George’s, the City Food and Garden Market is a bustling hive of activity. Open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., go along and sample the local cheeses, meats and fresh organic produce on offer.

The MAC (Metropolitan Arts Centre) is one of the most exciting attractions in Belfast. Host to an array of exhibitions and events, this new venue is a great place to see some local and international talent. The Odyssey Complex, a five minute walk from Belfast city centre, is a must-visit. This large sporting and entertainment venue contains an interactive science centre, which will keep the kids happy for hours and a 10,000-seater sports arena where you can catch the Belfast Giants ice-hockey team on their home turf.

For some fresh air, Belfast has some great parks and is also ideally situated for day trips, taking in sights outside the city. At 368 metres in height, Cave Hill is a popular spot for great views of the city and Belfast Lough, and on a clear day you can even see Scotland in the distance. The Giant’s Causeway, one of the most famous tourist sights in Northern Ireland, is a stunning terrain of basalt in an area of protected natural beauty. The Causeway, Ireland’s only UNESCO Heritage Site, is approximately one hour from Belfast by car, and also accessible by train and bus, and a must-see for anyone visiting Northern Ireland.

    Game of Thrones tour

Game of Thrones is filmed around Belfast, venture to Winterfell to check out some of the show’s most spectacular settings and, if fancy dress if your thing, there’s a chance to slip into costume for a spot of archery.

    Titanic Belfast

Titanic Belfast is the authority on the fateful liner. Once you’ve checked out the exhibitions, and the symbolism of the boat’s structure on the Discovery Tour, pay the Ocean Exploration Centre a visit to come back to the 21st century. Kate and Leo not included.

    St George’s Market

St George’s Market is a Belfast institution. Loved by residents and tourists alike, it’s the place to go for lip-smacking goodness from near and far. You’ll also find an array of local craftspeople selling their wares.

Belfast Castle and Cave Hill County Park

Make a beeline for Belfast Castle and Cave Hill Country Park for an unrivalled view of the city. While you’re up there, explore the park and woodland, pop into the visitor centre and see if you can make out Napoleon’s Nose.

Everyone should know about W5. On the one hand, it’s an exciting, interactive science and discovery centre for kids that fuels their imaginations and exercises their brains in fun ways. On the other, it’s a popular space for corporate conferences and events – a handy piece of information for anyone staying at our Belfast business hotels.

    Botanic Gardens and Ulster Museum

Wiling away a couple of hours in Belfast’s Botanic Gardens is a blooming lovely thing to do. An important part of the city’s Victorian heritage, it’s also home to the Ulster Museum where you’ll come face-to-face with dinosaurs, mummies and other intriguing objects from the arts, history and natural sciences.

    On two wheels

Our service is secure, free and easy to use

The Northern Irish capital is fairly compact, with almost all of its hotels found in Belfast city centre. However, that’s not to say there isn’t a wide range of choice when it comes to places to stay in the city.

With everything from cheap and cheerful hostels to funky townhouse-set boutiques and the familiar chains present in Belfast city centre, it’s rather the opposite in fact.

Stay classy in city centre hotels

On the streets surrounding Belfast City Hall and Great Victoria Street train station stand several of Belfast’s four and five-star grand dames, including the Europa Hotel. Arguably Belfast’s most well known hotel, the Europa earned its fame in a manner most other hotels would probably rather avoid. Having been damaged more than 30 times by IRA bombs between 1970 and 1994, it became known as ‘Europe’s most bombed hotel’.

Staying in this area puts some of Belfast’s prime landmarks, including the ornate Victorian Grand Opera House, and the Crown Liquor Saloon (under the remit of the National Trust), within easy reach. However, these luxurious Belfast hotels come at a price.

If you are looking for somewhere cheaper, Belfast city centre also has a selection of chain hotels, which offer the same great location but with prices that are much less eye watering.

Join the party in Belfast’s buzzy Cathedral Quarter

Just north of the city centre lies what many claim to be Belfast’s coolest neighbourhood: the Cathedral Quarter. Once a warehouse and trade district, this cobbled web of city streets is now crammed with cosy cafés, craft beer bars, cool restaurants and independent boutiques, and is probably Belfast’s number one nightlife destination.

Some guidebooks still call it ‘up-and-coming’, but the truth is it has already up and came, and it would be hard to find anywhere trendier to lay your head!

Find the cheapest Belfast hotel deals

If you’re keen to snag cheap hotels in Belfast, there are a few tried-and-tested money-saving tricks you can play around with when planning your trip. Look out for special midweek and off-season packages, which are often offered at hugely reduced rates. Or, if you are brave enough to risk leaving things to the day before you go, try for a fantastic last-minute deal (but not during busy periods such as summer weekends or Christmas).

For the cheapest Belfast accommodation, meanwhile, look to the city’s hostels. A cluster of backpacker-oriented options can be found around Queen’s University Belfast, south of the city centre. Stay here and you will be just a couple of steps from the fascinating Ulster Museum and the flower-filled Botanic Gardens, with the city centre just a 11-minute drive or 30-minute stroll away.

This hotel is right around the corner from the coach station, next door to the Grand Opera House Theatre, so it was so handy for us.

It is a 5 star hotel and it is easy to see why. The hotel is gorgeous and the staff are so friendly and helpful. We had to ask for directions quite a few times but they never got impatient and they went out of their way to assist us.

We didn’t have food in the restaurant, but we had cocktails and although they hadn’t mentioned ‘Mocktails – non-alcoholic cocktails’ on the menu, there was no hassle at all when I asked for some to be prepared. They even used a fancy martini glass 🙂

The bedroom was stunning – we had a twin room and the beds were very roomy. There were a few different types of pillows (feather, hypoallergenic, etc) and there was a little information booklet stating that if we wanted different types of pillow, they would accommodate us.

There was also a sofa in our room, which was handy for packing to go home!!

The bathroom was lush – massive rain shower AND a bath. and, the best thing of the whole lot, in my opinion, is that the little toiletries were Cruelty-Free and Vegan. You *almost never* get both options but this really made me smile. Most hotels ask that you let them know if you need new towels each day, but to have such an ethical stance as to provide cruelty-free toiletries that had ‘no animal derivitives’ was just amazing 🙂 leaping bunny symbol and all.

10 out of 10 for this amazing hotel. Can’t wait to book my next stay 🙂

    Europa Hotel

    Food drink

The ground floor Causerie bistro has mains from bangers and mash at £9 to sirloin at £21, all locally sourced. I had delicious Irish stew with soda bread and witty but slightly underdone chips cut in the shape of Giant’s Causeway stones on the side, then more wit from dessert, a slab of ice cream between two wafers which to generations of Northern Ireland kids is known as a slider. Top marks for sea salt and black pepper grinders on every table. The first floor Piano Bar, a sumptuous haven of mahogany, leather and candlelight, has been the meeting and greeting hub of Belfast for decades, from ladies who lunch to men on a mission. Daily afternoon tea there is a feast for £15, or £23 with a glass of Mumm’s, and there’s a resident pianist on Friday and Saturday evenings. In the traditional Lobby Bar downstairs, there’s pub grub, with live music on Saturdays; jazz in the afternoon and traditional Irish in the evening.

    Value for money

With rooms starting at £80 including breakfast and wifi for a chance to stay in a Belfast institution which has not only kept up with the times but stayed one step ahead of them with constant improvements, it’s a lot of bangs for your buck, although thankfully not the sort of bangs the Europa was once famous for.

    Hotels in Belfast

    Best Belfast Hotels

Belfast is a transformed city, full of state of the art shopping, ultra-cool nightlife, a regenerated waterfront and, perhaps above all else, a monumental reminder of its industrial past. The home of the Titanic, Belfast has given the ill-fated craft the sort of memorial befitting such an ambitious, and infamous, craft. Whether you’re exploring the high seas heritage or heading to rub shoulders with the hip clubbers and pubbers in the bustling bars and clubs, Belfast is a cultural and cosmopolitan city. Throw in regular arts festivals, galleries and theaters and you’ve got the ideal mix of intrigue and innovation.

Belfast has a world-class tourist attraction, in the shape of the Titanic Belfast. Combining recreations, exhibitions and entertainment, and based on the very slipways where the Titanic was built, this enormous center is a jewel in Belfast’s crown. With designs based on the look of the ship’s hull and the White Star Line’s insignia, visitors can explore and learn, while large banqueting and conference facilities are also available. Belfast City Hall’s Renaissance design has been at the heart of the city since 1906, and tours of its domes, rotunda and classical corridors run most days. Belfast Waterfront Hall is a hive of activity – its purpose-built circular auditorium is home to regular gigs, exhibitions and concerts, attracting world stars and local talent alike. Out of doors, Belfast’s Botanical Gardens are a link to the city’s Victorian era, and feature bowling gardens and tropical plants, as well as lots of clean air in the heart of the city.

    Hotels in Belfast

A forward-looking city, finding luxury hotels in Belfast won’t be an issue if you have the cash to splash. The high-end hotels in the city center tend to offer WiFi, flat-screen televisions with satellite channels, desks and free newspapers, among their standard features. Most will also have business and fitness facilities on-site. As well as five-star hotels, Belfast also offers a number of luxury apartments for hire, which will offer a similar level of comfort and amenities in-room, and in some cases the option of ordering a massage. A luxury spa can be found on a golf-course equipped estate outside the center of Belfast.

The huge redevelopment programme which has transformed Belfast into an ultra-chic, ultra-modern city means that you’ll most likely want to stay in its central district and immerse yourself in the swanky waterfront, the gleaming dome of Victoria Square and the other cultural landmarks on hand within the center of the city. Slightly further out of center is the Queens College district, the hub of student life thanks to the university of the same name and packed with bars and clubs on its Golden Mile. Prices may be slightly lower here, and it’s close to the lush Botanical Gardens.

Visitors from mainland UK and Ireland will most likely arrive at Belfast Airport, around 6 kilometres north of the city center. A shuttle bus will take you to the nearby rail station, and the Airport Express 600 bus runs every 20 minutes for a small charge. International visitors will have a longer journey into town, with Belfast International Airport 30 kilometres away from the center, but the Airport Express 300 provides a similar service from this airport at as reasonable a rate. Belfast Central Station is the main terminus for trains from Dublin, and the rest of Northern Ireland, and is around 20 minutes’ walk from the city center.

    Hotels in Belfast

BELFAST – THE PEARL OF NORTHERN IRELAND

Steeped in history, vibrant Belfast is a destination with a difference! Get to know this welcoming city with a stay at the upscale Radisson Blu Hotel, Belfast. Located near the city centre in the historic Gasworks area, the hotel is a great base for shopping, strolling through Belfast’s Victorian streets, exploring the countless traditional bars and trendy clubs, or taking a trip to the renowned Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.

As Northern Ireland’s largest city Belfast has always been a hub of trade and activity, building a solid foundation for the busy, happening city it is today. There’s no doubt it’s a first class place to jump into and explore and the contemporary Radisson Blu Hotel, Belfast, located in the bold and creative Gasworks area, is just a quick bus ride to the very heart of the action.

The city’s landmark architecture tells the story of its past – the Linen warehouses and shipyards add a historical reference to the stylish modern city Belfast is today. There’s something for everyone in Belfast from fascinating tours of the Murals and key streets at the centre of ‘The Troubles’, to a trip to buy local produce at the lively St. George’s Market. And no visit to Belfast would be complete without a visit to the birthplace of the Titanic, which sailed and sank on its maiden voyage in 1912. Today one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ireland is in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter – the iconic Titanic Museum.

Belfast is a dynamic melting pot of old and new split into areas which reflect its history. There are 250 listed buildings and 14 Conservation Areas in the city and over the last few years a lot of energy has been put into restoring some of Belfast’s most historic buildings. Wandering through the lively streets is one of the best ways to see these remarkable places. The Cathedral Quarter is home to some of the city’s oldest buildings but also the art scene with the MAC (Metropolitan Art Centre) and Custom House Square, where there’s always something creative going on – from street entertainment to music festivals and theatre. The animated Queen’s Quarter is where the students hang out in leafy side streets and quirky shops and cafes, while those looking for a more traditional Irish experience won’t be disappointed with the Gaeltacht Quarter, which shows off the Emerald Isle at its best – filled with folk music, Irish cuisine and jolly upbeat pubs.

Belfast has several cultural quarters and a dynamic range of sights and experiences – so many it’s hard to know where to begin, so we’re giving you a helping hand. Here’s five top Belfast attractions we don’t want you to miss out on.

    • The Titanic Quarter, famous for its shipbuilding roots and home to the contemporary Titanic Museum, is an absolute must for anyone visiting this stylish city. While you’re there why not take a peek at SS Nomadic – built alongside the Titanic and a quarter of its size, this ship tells the story of life at sea after the great ship sank.
    • There’s been a glorious resurgence in recycling, arts and crafts and living ‘the Good Life’ and what better place to experience all of this than at the famous St George’s Market. There’s been a market on this spot since 1604 – Friday, Saturday and Sunday all offer different experiences from fresh fish, to antiques, to warm home-made cakes.
    • ‘The Troubles’ have shaped much of Belfast’s character and taking a tour to the key areas in the city is both moving and essential to understanding the Belfast of today. You’ll get to see the Shankill area, and the Falls as well as the Murals and Peace Wall along with a detailed history including the peace process.
    • Head to Lisburn Road, ‘the King’s Road of Belfast’ with its designer stores and trendy boutiques. It’s easy to get absorbed in the beautiful objects around you from antiques to vintage dresses and unique jewellery.
    • You’ve explored the streets of Belfast, soaked up the architecture and culture so what about the nightlife? There’s so much to choose from but if you head to the Cathedral Quarter you’ll find a real Belfast buzz at the lively but traditional Duke of York – there’s live music, whiskey and plenty of friendly faces to share the night with.

These are just a few of the many attractions in this unique city – just ask the concierge at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Belfast for more information and tips on what else you can get up to.

Belfast is a city with such a lot to offer it can be hard to know where to begin exploring, but taking one of the city’s unique tours will help everything fall into place. Here we’ve picked five ways to see Belfast.

    • Taxi! Belfast is famous for its Black Cab Tours and you’ll get an excellent tour of the city with people who know it like the back of their hand. You can choose to go down the political route or look at the architecture or be whisked around all the places connected to the Titanic.
    • Float your boat! Getting out and about on the River Lagan will give you a different perspective of Belfast so jump on a boat tour and take your camera for sights of the city, the docklands and the people.
    • On your bike! Hop on a bike tour – this is a great way to see the city sights and it’s really fun and flexible too. You can easily park up and have a coffee – or a pint of Guinness to make the onward journey even more interesting.
    • Belfast on the run! If you’re feeling more energetic you can take a running tour to see Belfast. The hotel can help with a route or you can join a guided tour which usually starts in front of the City Hall on Sunday at 10.30am.
    • On the buses! If you don’t fancy working up a sweat take a bus tour. Jump on and off the bus at places that interest you – from the Titanic Quarter to the Cathedral Quarter, the Murals, Falls Road and Shankill Road. Tickets last for two days so you can take your time and enjoy.

Belfast is a busy, exciting city full of history and modern quirks. Here are some ideas for how to spend your time while you are staying with us.

    • Take an architectural tour. The story of Belfast will be told through its wonderful old buildings (there are 250 listed buildings in Belfast) from the huge warehouses and shipyards to the murals on the walls from the Troubles. There are lots of different tours you can take – by bus, taxi, bike or walking.
    • Visit the city’s Titanic Quarter where the great Titanic was born ready for its fateful voyage in 1912. There’s a great modern building for the Titanic Museum and it’s a good place to get an understanding of what the shipbuilding industry meant to the city and the tragedy of the lives lost on the iconic ship.
    • Check out Belfast’s art scene at the MAC (Metropolitan Art Centre) and discover the international exhibitions and theatre, dance, art and music this new modern centre offers. You can pick up some lunch in the Cathedral Quarter afterwards.
    • Top up your wardrobe with a trip around some of Belfast’s shopping centres. Victoria Square and Castle Court are bursting with places to splash your cash from large department stores to popular high street shops.
    • If you’re after a tipple head to the docklands and do a tasting session at wine merchants Direct Wine Shipments – this place has knowledgeable staff who can match your wines to food and help you choose the right case for special occasions.
    • For a fun night out head to the Gaeltacht Quarter, which is filled with Irish folk music, busy pubs and traditional restaurants – it’s here you’ll find your feet, tap out a jig and reminisce over a great day sightseeing in Belfast.

    Good

    Huge Disappointment

We paid £300 for an o/night stay and the room that we were allocated was very basic.

Small and simply not fit for purpose. The Irish breakfast (I may add that the staff in the restaurant were excellent) was simply not worth £25 per person. There was a concert event in Belfast (u2) and it seems that the relevant band and supporting staff were at the hotel. As a result the hotel were focussed on these guests and it felt that we were downgraded/side lined in room and service as a result.

Suggest that you check with the hotel if there are events on in Belfast during your stay as this will impact your experience in a big way.

We felt that the hotel could not wait for us to go so that they could continue to focus on their other celebrity guests.
