The 8s are slightly further up the food chain than the 6s, but there are good and bad examples of both. Tripadvisor is your friend. Impossible to generalize about rates however as each hotel’s location will drive cost, as will demand on the night(s) you stay.

Others to consider that are in the same bracket would be Red Roof Inn, Econolodge and there are probably others. Consistency of quality control is very poor in these chains so your experiences will vary a lot from one to another.

At the rest stops, there are usually motel books with coupons. Sometimes you can get some Hampton or Fairields for 59 bucks plus tax. Nice hot tubs and breakfast.

If you are planning on doing some sight seeing and can plan, try Priceline and or Hotwire. I booked the Doubletree Hotel in PA in July for $65 a night and the Westin in Arlington for 113. You can usually get Holiday Inn for 50 bucks (start at 35 in remote places). But you must plan and you must arrive on a certain date. If you bring a laptop, you can stop by wireless gas stations or rest stops and try to book ahead of yourself. These hotels are MUCH nicer than the Motel 8, but require some planning.

Another cheapo way to go is to use the KOA cabins. It all depends on how much you want to see and do on your trip. Might as well see some stuff. The National Parks in Southern Utah, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Devils Tower, Rushmore, Crazy Horse are all pretty cool.

Car Insurance for a New Vehicle #new #car, #car #insurance, #switch, #transfer

Car Insurance for a New Vehicle

You have many considerations to make when buying a new car. Insurance is just one of them.

Whether you switch to a new auto insurance provider or transfer your existing insurance to your new car, ensuring that you have the right car insurance is an essential part of the process of purchasing a new vehicle.

Getting a Quote Before You Buy

The type of vehicle you drive has an effect on your car insurance rates, so getting a quote for the type(s) of cars you are considering can be a wise choice.

First, if you’re choosing between multiple vehicle types. getting quotes can help you make your decision (e.g. if one type will be much costlier to insure, you may choose the other).

Second, whenever you’re buying a new car, you need to reevaluate your coverage.

  • Your current provider mayno longer be the most affordable provider for car insurance coverage you’ll need for your new vehicle.
  • Also, other providers may have additional products and offerings that better suit your new needs.

Finally, it’s smart to periodically check for car insurance quotes. You may be paying more than you need to if you’ve stayed with the same company for years without looking around at prices and discounts offered in the market.

Before you buy your new car, get at least 3-4 car insurance quotes for the type of vehicle you’re looking to buy so you’ll know what to expect.

What You’ll Need to Drive Your Car Off the Lot

Driving without car insurance coverage is illegal, so you’ll need to make sure you are covered before you drive your new car off the lot.

If you already have car insurance, you may need to adjust your coverage for your new vehicle. For example, you might be required to add comprehensive or collision coverage if you are taking out a loan on the car.

However, even if you need to adjust your insurance for your new car, your current policy may cover you for a short period of time after the purchase of a new vehicle.

Check your declarations page to be sure.

If you’re unsure whether you’ll be covered, provide the vehicle information to your car insurance company before you complete the purchase. Your agent should be able to let you know what you’ll need.

If you’ll be changing companies. make sure to find out exactly how long your current car insurance will extend, and make sure you have an exact start date for your new policy and end date for your old policy. For more information, please see our page on switching car insurance companies.

Notifying Your Insurance Company

If you are going to transfer your current car insurance from your old vehicle to your new one, or are planning to switch to a new provider altogether, it’s your responsibility to alert your insurance company.

Do not assume you are covered if you do not make a call.

It is a good idea to call your car insurance company before you buy your new car. if possible. This will ensure you know exactly how you’ll need to move forward with your insurance before you even drive your car off the lot.

The Benefits of Gap Coverage

Once you drive a car off the lot, the actual cash value depreciates significantly. If you’re going to have a loan or lease on your new ride, you can protect yourself financially by opting for gap coverage.

Gap coverage takes into account the dangers of depreciation and covers the difference between your loan amount and the car’s actual cash value if it was totaled in a crash.

This ensures you are not left with a large car loan bill and no car, if your vehicle is totaled in a serious accident.

If your current company does not offer gap coverage, you may wish to look around at other options in the market to make sure you have financial protection.

To learn more about this type of car insurance coverage, visit our Gap Coverage page.

Car Insurance Premiums

When you transfer car insurance to a new car from your existing car, don’t be surprised if your insurance premiums change.

  • They may increase if the vehicle is more costly to repair or represents a greater risk to the insurance company.
    • Examples include sports cars and luxury vehicles.
  • They may decrease if the vehicle is cheaper to repair or presents a lower risk.
    • Examples include affordable cars and those with many safety features.

If you are looking to save money on insurance, hybrid vehicles may be a good choice. Several insurance providers are now offering lowered rates on hybrid vehicles in an attempt to encourage more people to “go green.”

Whichever vehicle you’re considering, getting multiple car insurance quotes will give you a good idea of the rate ranges you can expect.

Multivehicle Discounts

If you plan on keeping your current vehicle, adding a new car to your current policy may be a way to help you save money.

Most car insurance companies offer multivehicle discounts. which lower the cost of additional vehicles added to the policy. Talk to your current auto insurance agent about the availability of this discount type.

Remember, auto insurance is a crucial part of the puzzle when purchasing a new car. It is essential to do your due diligence to avoid any unwanted surprises – such as higher premiums – later.

Safe Driving Tips for Teenage Drivers #teen #drivers, #teen #driver #safety, #car

Safe Driving Tips For Teenage Drivers

It’s a fact: teenage drivers account for more auto accidents than any other age group.

However, by practicing safe driving techniques―such as driving defensively―you’ll increase the odds you’ll keep yourself (and your passengers) safe on the road and you’ll increase your changes of getting more affordable car insurance as you build a good driving record.

Safety Tips for Teen Drivers

Whether you’re just getting ready to hit the road or have been driving for months―or even years―take some time to review these 8 safe driving tips.

1) Keep Your Cell Phone Off

Multiple studies indicate using a cell phone while driving is the equivalent of driving drunk ―that’s even when using a hands-free phone.

NOTE . Your state may prohibit the use of cell phones while driving. An increasing amount of states are creating laws regarding cell phone use and texting. Often, younger drivers face stricter laws.

2) Don’t Text

Research shows texting―on average―causes a loss of focus on the road for 4.6 seconds. You can drive the length of a full football field in that time. A lot can go wrong while you drive the length of a football field without your eyes on the road.

Don’t try the “texting-while-stopped” approach, either, as many states ban texting while behind the wheel. And, when you have your head down, you won’t notice key developments that may occur. Remember, you still need to pay attention to the road when you’re stopped.

3) Turn on Your Headlights

Using your headlights increases your visibility and help other drivers see you, even when you feel like it’s light out.

In the early morning and early evening (dusk), you need to use your lights or other drivers might not see you, which can be disastrous.

4) Obey the Speed Limit

Speeding is a major contributor to fatal teen accidents. That’s especially true when driving on roads with lots of traffic or with which you’re not familiar.

Don’t feel pressured to keep up with traffic if it seems like everyone else is flying by you. Driving a safe speed helps ensure your well-being, and keeps you away from costly traffic tickets that can cause a sharp hike in your auto insurance premiums.

5) Minimize Distractions

It may be tempting to eat, drink, flip around the radio dial, or play music loudly while you’re cruising around town; however, all can cause your mind or vision to wander, even for a few seconds.

As an inexperienced driver, you are more apt to lose control of your car. Distractions can significantly increase the chances that you 1) not notice impending danger or notice it too late and 2) lose the ability to control the vehicle.

6) Drive Solo

Having a single teen passenger in your car can double the risk of causing a car accident. Adding additional teen passengers causes the risk to escalate.

7) Practice Defensive Driving

Always be aware of the traffic ahead, behind, and next to you, and have possible escape routes in mind. Stay at least one car length behind the car in front of you in slower speeds, and maintain a larger buffer zone with faster speeds.

Some car insurance companies will even give you a discount if you take an approved defensive driving course to improve your driving skills.

8) Choose a Safe Car

If possible, drive a safe car with the latest safety equipment (such as anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and air bags), and one with an excellent crash safety record.

Final Word: Teens Becoming Safe Drivers

There’s no substitute for driving experience and the wisdom that age brings, but by applying the above tips you’ll enhance the odds you won’t become a teenage driver accident statistic. Also, when you have a good driving record free of accidents, it’s easier to find cheap car insurance in the future. Insurance Finder

Acura tsx custom #automotive #reviews, #automotive #news, #2006 #acura #tsx #vs. #honda

2006 Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord, Mazdaspeed 6, Pontiac G6, VW Jetta

First: 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI

In a perfect world, a guy who likes to unwind lonely driving roads on a brisk weekend morning owns an implement dedicated to just such an activity. A Mazda MX-5, for example. Or a Pontiac Solstice. Or a Honda S2000. Or. fill in your favorite sports car. But that ideal presupposes a big budget for grown-up toys, and/or the absence of parental obligations, which immediately add extra doors and seats to the equation. As much as we love ’em, sports cars are pure automotive self-indulgence, with a low practicality index. And the sad truth is, many of us are economically limited to one ride that has to serve a variety of everyday transportation functions, as well as satisfying your inner Michael Schumacher. Perhaps you’ve noticed this?

Take heart. Ownership of a car with four doors needn’t mean the end of fun-to-drive, and to support this proposition we present this field of five sub-$30,000 sports sedans that are just the ticket, able to deliver speed with a soupçon of luxury, too. Okay, more than a soupçon. A modicum. And in a couple cases, a profusion.

As a conceptual group, our roundup of 30-grand sports sedans isn’t new. It’s one of our regular sports-sedan reality checks. Still, there is much that is new here-in fact, only one of these five packages is familiar. That would be the Acura TSX, a sophisticated sweetheart that’s been on our 10Best Cars list since its 2004 debut. Modestly freshened for ’06, the TSX prevailed in our last under-30-grand decathlon (“Sustainable Sports Sedans ,” October 2004) and, consequently, anchors this one. (As with our 10Best Cars protocol, the also-rans in that derby weren’t invited to this one.)

The other everyday heroes are new for ’06 in varying degrees, and only one of them-the Jetta GLI-has gone through our battery of instrumented tests (October 2005 ). The GLI is the liveliest member of the Jetta family, and it shares its chassis and components with the GTI, VW’s famous hatchback hot rod. The Jetta’s inventory of go-faster hardware includes a new 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo four that churns up 197 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, a useful upgrade from the previous 1.8-liter turbo motor’s 180 horsepower and 173 pound-feet, although the gain in output is mitigated by an increase at the scales.

The other force-fed car in the field is the long-awaited Mazdaspeed 6, with all-wheel drive and 274 horsepower available from a turbo version of Mazda’s 2.3-liter four. That’s almost enough to put the Mazda on an equal performance footing with bad boys like the Subaru Impreza WRX STI or Mitsubishi Evo, and it was more than enough to hustle the Mazda to the front of this pack in terms of sheer zoom-zoom.

As a refreshing change, a domestic entry made the starting grid, the GTP version of Pontiac’s G6 sedan, with more authority in the suspension, more grip, and more muscle, thanks to more displacement-3.9 liters in a pushrod V-6, very all-American.

Beyond that, we found ourselves with an element of family feud. The Honda Accord has never been a player in one of our sports-sedan spectaculars, but for 2006 its extensive freshening includes the availability of a robust EX edition with a 244-hp, 3.0-liter V-6 and a six-speed manual. That combination is a first for Honda’s bread-and-butter four-door, and an essential element in qualifying for this bash-a manual transmission was one of the basic requirements for invitation, and all five cars were equipped with you-shift-it six-speeds.

You might observe that a couple other prime everyday-hero candidates-the Audi A4 and the BMW 3-series-didn’t make the cut. What’s up with that? Money, that’s what. As was true in our 2004 comparo, even the humblest of 3-series sedans, the 325i, carries a base price of $31,595, overflowing our 30-grand ceiling, and that presumes you could even find an unadorned 325i. This also goes for the A4. A basic front-drive A4 starts at $28,360, but in an age of steadily shrinking evaluation fleets, finding a base edition of any vehicle is akin to finding the last virgin in Las Vegas.

We drove the 280 miles to southeast Ohio, where we scorched the edges of our 13.5-mile driving loop. The Hocking Hills route is rich in linked turns, decreasing radii, whoop-de-dos, elevation changes, and bird watchers in L.L.Bean outfits, all in all ideal for gauging a car’s SQ (sporting quotient). This time around, it had a profound impact on the outcome.

Car Pro Should You Buy an Extended Warranty? Car Pro News #extended

Should You Buy an Extended Warranty?

A day never goes by that a Car Pro Radio Show listener does not ask my opinion of extended warranties. Many times the questions are whether you should buy one at all, if so which one, and what do they cost? All are good questions, and I am very much aware that there are many choices and it can be totally confusing. Even more questions arise because 3rd party warranty companies are bombarding people by mail, email, and phone.

I think an extended warranty on a car is a good investment. If you have not priced vehicle repairs lately, like a water pump or air conditioning compressor, you might be shocked as to how much they run these days. We all expect an engine problem or transmission problem will cost a lot, but the other more common repairs will cost you a bundle and usually one claim on the warranty will cover the cost of the warranty.

My rules about where to purchase a warranty are simple: from a good dealership. Going one step further, buy it from the dealership you are likely to use for service. This can shortcut your time and trouble in service since they are familiar with the contract rules and stipulations. Should there be a dispute on what is covered and what is not; the dealer you bought the warranty from has a vested interest in your satisfaction.

So what do you do if the dealer offers you a non-factory extended warranty? For many years I recommended only buying the factory policy, in other words the warranty backed by the manufacturer of the car. As time has gone on, I have softened my stance on this issue.

The real plus of the factory warranty is that it is good at any dealership that sells that brand. The down side is that the dealer has no control of gray areas. If the factory says a problem is not covered or is denied due to perceived abuse, the dealer’s hands are tied. If you have a non-factory warranty, the dealer can call them and plead your case. The dealer is a good customer of warranty companies.

Timing-wise, if you want to buy a warranty, usually the time you buy the car is the best time. There are surcharges on most warranties if you wait to buy it later. In most cases, you can purchase a warranty on your car up to the time your vehicle is inside the bumper-to-bumper warranty period.

One big thing to know before you purchase a warranty is what time and mileage will work best for you. There are a lot of different combinations. Also give thought to how much coverage you want. Generally you can go from basic powertrain coverage, all the way up to plans that cover maintenance. The price of course goes up with the higher levels of coverage. You can also usually choose a low deductible amount, or save money on the cost of the warranty by paying a higher deductible.

Speaking of price, many times you can get a discount on the warranty just for asking. In a lot of cases, the amount you pay for a warranty is negotiable. Like everything else, it never hurts to ask!

I warn you too, that I don’t know of any legitimate warranty company that will write a policy on a vehicle with 100,000 miles or more. There are alot of companies who make the warranties on these mileage vehicles sound great, but generally in the fine print, there are a lot of ways they can wiggle out of paying the claim.

In summary, I recommend you buy a good warranty from a good dealership that will stand behind what they sell. I have seen many cases where extended warranties have saved people from financial ruin.

Vehicle Magnets #custom, #car, #magnetic #signs

Vehicle Magnets

Signarama Custom Car Magnets combine promotion with portability for your business.

Customers requesting these popular vehicle signs include residential clients, landscapers, real estate agents, insurance professionals, private investigators, florists, pizza delivery clerks, surveyors, county and state employees, and pool maintenance professionals just to name a few.

Signarama magnetic signs deliver a powerful message and can be removed or shared among several vehicles. This feature and the relatively inexpensive cost of these effective advertisements are what makes magnetic custom car signs so popular at Signarama sign centers worldwide.

The design experts at Signarama will help with the proper measurement and layout of your custom car magnetic signs. Our experience with many types of vehicle lettering, permanent and temporary, allows us to guide and advise you with your color selection, font and logo placement, and design. We use the finest quality materials that are weather resistant and UV (ultra violet) resistant to avoid fading. Unless specified otherwise, it is common for Signarama to round the corners of your custom car magnetic signs to keep the corners from peeling up on the road during use. Our customers also see the benefit of purchasing magnetic signs in quantities of three, driver’s side, passenger’s side, and rear. The rear magnetic sign statistically enjoys more readership than the side pair, which is why this is often recommended by our professional staff.

For night use, Signarama can create your magnetic signs using reflective material. Similar to what you may be familiar with on emergency or construction vehicles, reflective material allows light from headlamps to illuminate your company’s message and logos even in the dark! This is a popular upgrade to many magnetic sign orders. The materials, either premium or reflective, are designed to last outdoors, in the rain, snow, heat, and cold. Storage recommendations for magnetic signs include not folding the signs, rather placing them flat on a metal surface to keep them flat and attractive looking. For obvious reasons, a Signarama designer or salesperson will inquire as to the type of vehicle you’ll be using with your custom car magnetic signs, as newer plastic and composite materials do not accept the magnetic material (i.e. Saturn brand vehicles or Corvettes).

Magnetics are usually sold in sizes such as 12 x 18 , 12 x 24 , 18 x 24 . It is important to consider where the placement of your custom car magnetic signs will be on the vehicle when choosing a size and we can help you with that decision. We encourage our customers to place magnetics in an easy to view area, clear of plastic body styles or moulding strips that interfere with the magnetic’s ability to adhere to the metal of your car, van, or truck.

Here are our top tips on how to enjoy your long journey in safety.

1. Keep your car in good condition

If you keep your car serviced regularly and check the basics before a long journey, your car is unlikely to let you down.

2. Pack an emergency kit

It s important to keep an emergency kit in your car at all times.

It needn t be expensive or take up much room, as it only needs to contain a first aid kit, spare fuses and bulbs for the car, a foot pump or tyre inflator, tyre pressure gauge, a litre of engine oil, a road atlas, a couple of snack bars and a bottle of drinking water.

If you add a couple of blankets and a shovel in the winter, this should help keep you mobile no matter what Mother Nature throws at you.

3. Plan your route

Why not plan your route to take in a tourist attraction or somewhere you d like to see? It might add time to your journey but you ll end up enjoying the trip more, breaking the monotony (important if you re using a lot of motorways), and turning a necessity into an adventurous road trip!

4. Take regular breaks

The Government s advice portal recommends taking a 15-minute break every two hours to avoid fatigue, a major cause of driver-related accidents.

It also suggests getting a good night s sleep before a long journey, stopping in a safe place whenever you feel tired, drinking a couple of cups of caffeinated coffee and taking a short snooze if you feel sleepy.

5. Entertainment

Don t worry, we are not about to suggest a game of i-Spy! Long journeys can get tedious, so why not try a spoken-word book instead of the radio? Most libraries will lend them to you for free and they re a great way to help the time fly.

6. Take the road less travelled

Why not dodge motorways and use smaller roads instead? Yes, it will take longer but it s bound to me more interesting, and even if you want to do the bulk of your journey on them why not detour for a break?

  • On the Vehicle/Vessel Bill of Sale (Form TD-420-065), enter “0″ for the sale price.
  • If possible, obtain any proof from the person gifting the car that all sales or use tax on the car have been paid. This will save you from having to pay this tax yourself.
    • If no proof can be provided, you will be responsible for 0.3% use tax.
    • If the car is 7 years old or older, you do not have to pay sales or use tax.
  • Pay the $12 title transfer service fee, plus your specific title fee (varies by vehicle; contact the DOL for details).

Typically lienholders will take care of this entire process for you. However, if your lienholder does not complete the lien release, you can submit one of the following to the WA DOL:

  • A completed Affidavit of Loss/Release of Interest/Gross Weight License (Form TD-420-040) with a notarized signature from the lienholder.
