3.5 Worked for Vitas over 8 yrs. Started as an OK place to work. The job itself is very satisfying. Immediate supervisors are good to work with. The starting salaries way below industry. NO shift differentials. Salaries have been frozen a couple of times and currently frozen until further notice (NO INFLATION ADJUSTMENT). The benefits package sucks! Insurance for family is just unplayable. Retirement plan has barely a tiny match. It has a standard PTO. CEO compensation for 2012 = $2,162,222.00.

Average Nurse Salaries by Type of Nursing Career and Role

Nurse careers and salaries

Median income: $42,490 annually (via Bureau of Labor Statistics)

LVNs and LPNs are some of the lowest paid nursing roles, but that is due to the fact that the educational requirements are less than most other types of nurses. The above salary is based upon BLS data from 2016.

Practicing as an LVN/LPN does not require a college degree and some jobs only require a high school diploma and minimal training beyond that.

Average Salary: $66,640 annually (via BLS, as of February 2016)

Registered nurses (RNs) are a large part of the nurse workforce. RNs practice in a variety of specialties and work environments. RNs must have at least an associate s degree in nursing, and many RNs have a bachelor s degree. Additionally, many RNs go on to obtain advanced nursing degrees at which point they earn more money, and get promoted to advance nursing positions with more clinical authority.

Clinical nurse specialists hold at least a master s degree in nursing with a CNS track in one of several medical specialties, such as oncology, geriatrics, cardiology, etc. Due to their higher level of education and scope of practice, clinical nurse specialists earn more than RNs and many other types of nurses.

Nurse careers and salaries

Average Salary: $97,083 (via the AANP, as of February 2016)

Nurse practitioners hold a master s degree from an accredited nurse practitioner program, and are considered advanced practice nurses. In fact, many states allow NPs to practice independently of physicians and even prescribe medications. According to the MGMA, average salaries for NPs vary slightly by specialty. The highest earning NPs are in neonatal/perinatal care ($124,840 average annual salary), cardiology ($96,587), and emergency medicine ($98,862).

Average Salary: $153,679 annually

CRNAs administer anesthesia to block pain during surgery or surgical procedures in hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, or dental offices. The top ten percent of CRNAs earn over $185,000 annually. CRNAs typically must be on call for emergency surgeries and may have to work long hours. The intensity and stress of the job, plus the high level of education required make CRNA jobs among the highest-paying nursing jobs. CRNAs are RNs who then go on to earn a master s degree in an accredited nurse anesthetist training program.

Average Salary: $97,700 annually (via BLS February 2016)

Nurse midwives are nurses who have special training in obstetrics, specifically in childbirth. Nurse midwives care for pregnant women and assist them during and after the delivery.

Nurse educators teach future nurses how to be nurses. The wide salary range for this role is due to the fact that nurse educators jobs are also varied. Some teach part-time, others full-time. Some nurse educators teach online, others teach on site. Therefore, the salaries vary accordingly. Most nurse educators have master s degrees, but some opportunities may be available to those with bachelor s degrees.

According to the BLS, there are 4-year bachelor’s degree programs, 2-year associate’s degree programs and accelerated programs for people who have already completed a bachelor’s degree in another field.

No matter which program you enroll in, you’ll take courses in anatomy, physiology, chemistry and biology. Additionally, you’ll study psychology and the social sciences. You’ll also receive supervised experience in a number of specialties, such as maternity, surgery and pediatrics.

Job Postings from Real Employers

Employers typically look for the minimum of a year of experience and a 2-year degree. Take a look at the following sampling of real life job postings from May 2012 to see what potential employers may require:

  • In Ohio, a hospice is looking for a hospice nurse that holds a 2-year degree and has at least a year of experience in the field. This position also requires that the applicant be able to travel in order to provide in-home patient care and also must act as a patient/family advocate.
  • A healthcare group in Connecticut is looking for a hospice nurse that can make up to 4 patient visits a day and also has experience working in hospice care/home care. This job also requires a 2-year degree.
  • A hospice group seeks a hospice nurse that holds the Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) certification as well as a bachelor’s degree and state certification. This position also requires that the applicant has an understanding of hospice care and the principles of death and dying.

How to Make Your Skills Stand Out

Earning a voluntary certification from the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses (NBCHP) is one way for you to make your skills stand out to potential employers. One such certification, the Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) is offered by the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses (NBCHP). This certification can be completed by successfully passing an examination, and all candidates must have at least 2 years of experience working in hospice or palliative care in order to be eligible. This certification will demonstrate to potential employers that you’re knowledgeable and competent in the hospice specialty.

Other Careers to Consider

Dental Hygienist

After reading about hospice nursing, maybe you feel you’re not ready to take on the emotional stress of working with dying patients. If you’re still interested in helping people and working with others, you might consider a career as a dental hygienist. Dental hygienists’ main task is to clean teeth. However, they also help educate their patients on the maintenance of good oral hygiene and other preventative dental health measures.

According to the BLS, this career had a median annual wage of around $69,000 in May 2011. This salary is similar to that of a hospice nurse, but the work is not as emotionally stressful. Furthermore, the employment growth is expected to be much faster than average at 38% between 2010 and 2020. Employers typically require only a 2-year degree and on-the-job training.

Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Another potential career that might interest you is that of a diagnostic medical sonographer. These professionals use special equipment that utilizes sound waves, instead of radiation, directed into the body in order to diagnose various medical conditions. According to the BLS, employment growth was projected to be 44%, much faster than the average for all occupations, in the 2010-2020 decade. An additional 23,400 jobs were expected to be added to the field. The median annual salary for this career was about $65,000. Moreover, the job usually only requires a 2-year degree.

This is one of the worst companies to work for. No compassion and only looks at pt census and pushes for more pts when no other nurses are available. Administration and payroll are a joke and no communication between employees and administration. No appreciation for employees from corporate. Unable to give the best possible care when trying to fit in 10+pts/day.

Capital Hospice was a great place to work. A typical day at work is like being challenged, by a family member. I learned how to Open and Close patients charts, Spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook. Management were great people to work with. My Co-workers were great people to work with respectful. The hardest part of the job was hearing a patients death. The most enjoyable part of the job, was coming to work and seeing the patients.

What Olympian Michael Phelps learned from hitting bottom: I ve seen the darkest of the dark

The most decorated Olympian in history, Michael Phelps is by any measure a great success. A legend, even. But he has not always been happy.

Phelps’ first trip to the Olympics was in Sydney, when he was just 15 years old. He didn’t win any medals, but it was clear from his first appearance that the tall, skinny kid with long limbs had tremendous potential in the pool.

In Athens in 2004, Phelps took home six gold medals and two bronze. In Beijing in 2008, Phelps won gold eight times. And in London in 2012, Phelps won four gold and two silver medals.

But Phelps’ rise to the top of his sport was not without stumbles. Phelps was arrested for a DUI when he was only 19, and in 2009, Phelps was criticized after a photo came out of him smoking a bong.

In 2014, Phelps was again arrested for drunk driving. The champion of three Olympic games who had accumulated 22 medals fell into a deep depression.

At times, he even felt suicidal.

“I’ve seen the darkest of the dark. And there are days where I didn’t want to be here,” Phelps, now 31, tells CNBC.

“I ve seen the darkest of the dark. And there are days where I didn t want to be here.” -Michael Phelps, Olympic swimmer

These days, though Phelps is better, he still struggles, and he’s frank about that.

“I’m not perfect. Nobody is. I will be the first one to admit a mistake when it’s made. That’s the only way you are able to move on and learn from that mistake,” says the swimmer. “By no means has my life been absolutely perfect.”

Phelps has turned a corner, though. He feels more stable now than he was a couple of years ago. Nine out of 10 mornings, he says he wakes up happy. Before his time in the treatment center, Phelps says there were periods of his life where he would wake up in a bad mood six out of 10 days.

“I will be the first one to admit a mistake when it s made. That s the only way you are able to move on and learn from that mistake.” -Michael Phelps, Olympic swimmer

“Being able to come out of the other side and just to work and learn things about me that I never knew, I didn’t want to know at that point — you know, I think it changed my life,” he says.

In Rio last year, Phelps added six medals to his stack, bringing his tally of Olympic medals to 28, and making him the most decorated Olympian in history. Phelps is a husband and new father, and he is launching his business career, which he aims to model after Michael Jordan’s.

For example, Phelps spoke to CNBC from the New York City showroom of direct-to-consumer mattress brand Leesa. with which he has recently entered into a four-year brand partnership.

Going forward, Phelps hopes his personal struggles, as well as his athletic successes, can be an inspiration to others.

“I look back at things that I’ve been able to accomplish and everything that I have, and I’m just so happy with where I am in life,” says Phelps.

What are the Roles and Responsibilities of a Forensic Psychologist? #forensic #psychologist, forensic

#

What are the Roles and Responsibilities of a Forensic Psychologist?

Forensic psychology can be conceptualized as encompassing both sides of the justice system (criminal and civil) as well as two broad aspects of psychology (clinical and experimental). Forensic psychologists may be trained as either clinical psychologists or experimental psychologists and engage in a variety of roles within each of these two broad areas. The wide variety of roles and responsibilities of forensic psychologists are described in this article.

Role and Responsibilities of Forensic Psychologists

The roles and responsibilities of forensic psychologists are many and varied. There is no one particular path to becoming a forensic psychologist and forensic psychologists may be employed in a wide variety of settings. In general, a forensic psychologist will take on one primary role but may engage in additional roles depending on his or her interests and training. The various roles that a forensic psychologist may take on include, but are not limited to: trial consultant, expert witness, evaluator, treatment provider, researcher, academic, and correctional psychologist. Each of these roles will be described in a little more detail below.

Trial Consultant

Trial consultants (or jury consultants) work with legal professionals to assist in various aspects of case preparation, including jury selection, development of case strategy, and witness preparation. Many trial consultants rely on their research training to develop and execute research that will assist attorneys in preparing a case. Research and data collection strategies might include community surveys, focus groups, jury simulations, shadow juries, and mock trials. Trial consultants (or jury consultants) may be involved in both civil and criminal cases and may assist at any (or all) stage(s) of the proceedings—in preparation for trial, during trial, or after trial. Typically, trial consultants have advanced degrees in one of the behavioral sciences, such as psychology (clinical or experimental) or criminology.

Expert Witness

An expert witness is someone who testifies in court about specialized knowledge that he or she possesses. Forensic psychologists are often called upon to testify regarding matters of mental health (clinical forensic psychologist) or general theory and research in psychology and law (clinical or experimental forensic psychologist). Generally, clinical forensic psychologists are involved as expert witnesses after having evaluated a defendant and thus are called to testify regarding that defendant’s mental state and how it relates to the legal issue at hand (such as insanity, competency, dangerousness, civil commitment, etc). It is possible, however, for forensic psychologists to serve as general expert witnesses where, instead of testifying regarding specialized knowledge about a particular defendant/complainant, they may be called to testify regarding broader psychological principles in which they have specialized knowledge or expertise. This role is usually performed in conjunction with another role, such as that of researcher, academic, or evaluator and thus is not generally the only (or even the primary) role in which a forensic psychologist engages. Forensic psychologists in the expert witness role may participate in both criminal and civil proceedings and are usually trained either in general psychology or in a particular psychological specialty such as clinical psychology.

Evaluator

Many forensic psychologists take the role of evaluators. In general, this refers to the evaluation of criminal defendants or parties to civil litigation with respect to mental health issues that relate to the legal issue at hand; however, this may also refer to the evaluation of service delivery or treatment programs. In the criminal realm, forensic psychologists may be called upon to evaluate defendants with respect to their competency to stand trial, their me

ntal state at the time of the offense (insanity), their risk for future dangerousness, or other such issues. In the civil realm, forensic psychologists may be called upon to evaluate an individual’s psychological state after having been injured or in an accident or may evaluate families involved in custody and access disputes. The evaluator role usually goes hand-in-hand with the expert witness role as many evaluators are called into court to testify about the opinions they formed during their evaluations. Forensic psychologists who take on the role of an evaluator are employed in a wide variety of settings, including forensic hospitals, state psychiatric hospitals, community mental health centers, and private practice. Forensic psychologists who evaluate defendants or parties to civil litigation usually have been trained as clinical psychologists and have some specialization in forensic psychology and are usually required to be licensed as psychologists.

Treatment Provider

Treatment providers provide psychological intervention or treatment to individuals requiring or desiring these services. Forensic psychologists who are treatment providers work in a wide variety of settings, including: forensic hospitals, state psychiatric hospitals, community mental health centers, and private practice. In addition, treatment providers may work with individuals (or groups) involved in both criminal and civil proceedings. In the criminal realm, treatment providers may be called upon to provide psychological interventions to individuals who have been determined by the courts to be incompetent to stand trial (and require treatment for the restoration of competency), insane at the time of the crime (and require treatment for their mental illness), or at a high risk to commit a violent offense (and require treatment to minimize the likelihood of acting violently in the future), as well as a number of other criminal law-related issues. Within the civil realm, forensic psychologists may be called upon to provide treatment to families who are going through divorce proceedings or to individuals who sustained psychological injuries as a result of some trauma that they endured or a host of other civil law-related issues. The same forensic psychologist may perform both treatment provider and evaluator roles, although ethical guidelines serve to limit the chances that both of these roles will be fulfilled with the same client or patient.

Researcher

Forensic psychologist researchers design and implement research on various issues relevant to forensic psychology or psychology and the law, both criminal and civil. In addition, these professionals may conduct research on mental health law and policy or program evaluation. These professionals may be employed in a number of settings including universities and colleges, but also at research institutes, government or private agencies, and psychiatric hospitals or other mental health agencies.

Academic

Forensic psychologist academics are involved in teaching, research, and a host of other education-related activities such as training and supervision of students. Psychologists who take on this role can be trained either generally in psychology or in one of the specialties such as clinical psychology. In addition, these professionals usually have an advanced degree in psychology, typically a PhD. It is often the case that academics will also take on one or more of the aforementioned roles in addition to the role of academic. In general, academics are employed by institutions of higher learning—colleges or universities.

Correctional Psychologist

A correctional psychologist is a forensic psychologist who works in a correctional setting with inmates and offenders. These psychologists often engage in direct service delivery—both evaluation and treatment—of individuals who have been incarcerated or who are out on probation or parole. Thus, in addition to the roles of evaluator and treatment provider, correctional psychologists may also take on the role researcher or expert witness.

    Career Opportunities for Nurses

    Career Opportunities for Nurses

Written by Erin E. Wever, RN, BSN

Erin is a critical care nurse currently employed on a surgical trauma ICU. Her previous experience includes work on a coronary care unit, agency nursing, and travel nursing. In addition to staff duties, she precepts nursing students, orients new employees and teachs TNCC classes.

When I crossed the stage to receive my diploma in nursing, a world of possibilities opened to me. Nursing is a rapidly growing profession, with a wide array of career opportunities.

Within the nursing profession, there are a wide variety of career paths. Some choose to provide patient care throughout their careers, while others choose to obtain advanced certifications or degrees. With so many options, how do you choose what is right for you? Begin your search by asking yourself the following questions.

Is there a specific patient population, body system or acuity that interests me?
Most patient care areas are divided into age groups. The easiest way to determine the best fit for you is to consider your preference. Many nurses choose pediatric nursing because they enjoy working with children. Would you prefer to work with the elderly? Consider working in geriatrics, either in a hospital or a long term care facility.

Many units provide care to patients who have disorders of a particular body system. If you are interested in caring for patients with cardiac disorders, consider working on a telemetry unit, coronary care unit or a cardiovascular unit. Did you enjoy your psychology classes in college? Perhaps mental health nursing would be a good fit for you.

Is there a specific patient population, body system or acuity that interests me?

Patient acuity refers to the severity of illness. If you would prefer a lower acuity, consider working in home health care, where the patients are well enough to continue their recovery at home. If you are interested in higher acuity, consider critical care.

Do I want to get an advanced degree?

There are many opportunities for a nurse with a Master’s degree or PhD. The challenge is determining what you would want to specialize in. If you want to provide education to staff nurses or students, you can become a Nurse Educator. A Nurse Anesthetist is a Master’s prepared nurse who provides anesthesia to patients during surgery, under the direction of an anesthesiologist. A Nurse Practitioner can open their own practice to provide care for specific patient populations. If you are interested in leadership, consider becoming a Nurse Administrator.

    What other certifications are available?

There are many specializations that require certification rather than obtaining an advanced degree. A Nurse Informaticist finds way to integrate advanced technology and patient care. A Legal Nurse Consultant consults with attorneys and clients about medical matters. A Forensic Nurse assists with criminal investigations while providing emotional support to victims of a crime. Furthermore, there is a growing population of nurse entrepreneurs who are utilizing their experience to create new business opportunities.

Nursing is a dynamic profession with a wide variety of career opportunities

It is important to consider your goals and interests to find the career path that is best for you. Do the research. Talk to people who are in a specialization that interests you. Consider job shadowing to learn what specializations would fit your interests and needs. With careful consideration and research, you can find a fun and fulfilling career in the specialization of your choice.

Electricians must go through at least four years of training as an apprentice, followed by the licensing their state requires. Most in the profession specialize in either designing, installing, maintaining and repairing the motors, equipment and electrical systems of businesses and factories or installing, maintaining and repairing the electrical systems of residences.

“I like to work on projects that have complex systems, such as water and wastewater treatment facilities,” says Ryan Lee, a journeyman electrician and crew leader with the Ohio-based company Claypool Electric. “I am kind of a perfectionist, and these types of facilities require a great deal of accuracy to ensure that tasks are done accurately.”

There are other subsets, like electricians who specialize in iron and steel mills, or electricians who coordinate the lighting for a motion picture or television program. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the most stable employment is for electricians who work for businesses and factories. And this is a profession where employment is expected to blossom. Installing alternative energy sources in homes and businesses requires coordination with electricians, and these professionals are still needed to maintain older electrical systems. The BLS predicts this occupation will grow by 14 percent by 2024, which translates to 85,900 new positions.

    Training

The job of an electrician is physically demanding and can be very dangerous if it’s not done correctly. That’s why a good training program is imperative. Some choose to attend a technical school before entering their apprenticeship program, although this isn’t required. And most program entrants are at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. However, not everyone enters the field at a young age.

Martin Messerly, another employee with Claypool Electric who had previously worked nearly three decades as a journeyman mean cutter, says, “I never knew there would be a way for me to become a state-certified journeyman electrician at this point in my life. I always thought that it was something that you had to do right out of high school. Now, I just finished my fourth year of apprenticeship training, and with a few more [on-the-job training] hours, I will be a state-certified journeyman electrician.”

    School Counselor Careers

    What Is School Counseling?

A person’s school years are often very influential on the rest of his life. It is during these years that a child will grow into adolescence, then into his teenage years. During this time, a person will often further develop his personality, make and break friendships, and decide what he wants to do for the rest of his life.

School, however, can also be a very stressful time in a person’s life. Students today have to worry about getting good test scores, completing copious amounts of homework on time, excelling in extracurricular activities, and getting along with their peers. Being pulled in so many directions and having this much on their plates can be very overwhelming for just about anyone, regardless of their age.

Depending on his experiences, a person’s school years might be either the best years of his life, or the worst.

School counseling, however, is a type of counseling that focuses on helping students make the best of their education. Professionals in this field are typically referred to as either school counselors or guidance counselors. They typically work with several different students over the course of a school year, and help them with a variety of different problems, from class scheduling to substance abuse.

Today, school counselors are some of the most important and prominent members of a school’s faculty. They’re caring, compassionate, and genuinely concerned with the well being of the children they deal with. if you’re looking to make a difference in a child’s life and want to help him form his future, a school counseling career might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Why Do We Need School Counselors?

While in school, it can be very easy to feel lost, confused, alone, and overwhelmed. School counselors, though, exist to help students through the maze of academia.

The main goal of a school counselor is to help mold today’s young minds into tomorrow’s productive members of society. These professionals work with students on a daily basis in order to help them make the right decisions, meet challenges, and move in the right direction. Without school counselors, a large number of students might slip through the cracks as they struggle with academics or make less than wise decisions.

What Does a School Counselor Do?

A school counselor has a number of different job duties and responsibilities; perhaps more responsibilities than any other member of a school faculty. On any given day, these professionals will usually work closely with students, teachers, parents, and school administrators.

Students are typically a school counselor’s first priority. In general, these professionals are trained to keep the best interests of each and every student in mind.

A school counselor will often start by evaluating a student’s skills, strengths, weaknesses, career goals, and interests. From there, the counselor can then help the student choose which classes to take. The counselor is also usually responsible for creating each student’s class schedule, which needs to include all of the necessary classes that are required for graduation.

Career counseling is also another important responsibility of a school counselor. These professionals can help students who are unsure of their career goals choose some possible careers that are right for them. They can also help students take courses and participate in activities that will help them get into good colleges or career programs after graduation.

Social, behavioral, mental, and emotional problems are also often addressed by school counselors as well. For instance, school counselors will often help students who are struggling academically; being bullied by peers; abuse drugs or alcohol; or experiencing abuse or other problems at home. School counselors might also help students who are dealing with issues such as low self-esteem and time management.

School counselors will also usually stay in close contact with the parents of each student. Parents are usually informed of any problems that students may be having in school, for example. School counselors may also send parents periodic progress reports and give them advice on how to help their children succeed in school and in life.

Teachers may enlist the help of school counselors at times as well. They may ask for help with a problem student, for instance, or work with a school counselor to help a student with a particular problem. School counselors may also be asked to help with ho to discipline students as well.

The advice and concerns of a school counselors are also usually taken into consideration when school administrators are creating or reorganizing school policies.

    Where Do School Counselors Work?

As their title suggests, school counselors work in educational institutes of all types. They are employed at both public and private schools, from the elementary levels to college levels.

What Are the Education Requirements to Become a School Counselor?

In general, most school counselors begin their careers with a bachelor’s degree in areas such as counseling, education, or psychology. When pursuing a school counseling career, you’ll most likely also be required to earn at least a master’s degree in school counseling or education psychology.

Before becoming licensed, an aspiring school counselor will also usually need to complete a certain number of hours of supervised on the job training.

What Is the Median Annual Salary of a School Counselor?

According to the Bureau of labor Statistics, the median salary of all school and career counselors was $53,380 in 2011. Salaries vary by location and are often dictated by the budget of your school system.

    Positions at Alliance

Alliance is a home health care agency that treats its clients and employees like family. We know it takes a special type of person to provide skilled and compassionate home care services. Alliance provides extensive training for our registered home nurses, RNs and LPNs; clinical social workers; occupational, speech and physical therapists; and home health aides to ensure our clients receive the highest quality care and respect.

Because Alliance staff members often serve as surrogate caregivers and friends when family members or loved ones can’t be present, we look for employees who are caring, understanding, patient and dependable – and have a passion for helping others. All of our staff members are carefully screened; must pass criminal background and reference checks; and are bonded and insured. In addition, Alliance’s employees routinely undergo random drug tests.

Alliance is one of the only Indianapolis-area home care agencies whose home health aides complete a mandatory certification program in addition to being certified by the State of Indiana. Alliance is an equal opportunity employer.

Please fill out the form below or forward a cover letter and resume to Alliance Human Resources if you are interested in joining our team:

If you are interested in one of these positions, please select it from the “position applying for” field below. Thanks!

I am not a disgruntled employee. I was an administrator for Seasons. I was taught that honesty was the best policy. I also do not sugar coat anything. I had to write up one of my employees for not doing their job. I had to wait on HR for two weeks before they approved the write up. While waiting on HR, the employee went into my office and found the write up. The employee actually called HR, and ask if she was being written up. Naturally HR told the employee no. The day I disciplined the employee, and gave them the write up the employee had another co-worker email HR to let them know the employee was great. This call was made to the HR department after the employee ask me if she was getting written up. Naturally I told her yes, and we would discuss later. After receiving the write up, this employee made copies and gave it to staff. At Seasons they have The True Hope values. There is no trust, and please do not be honest.

First, the prior CEO upon retirement made $750,000 a year. This is for a local not for profit! While he made so much, budget cuts caused good workers to be let go, to save money. The COO made $500,00 a year. Employees were not aware unless they checked company financials. My overall experience with Covenant was positive. My department head went from friendly to just mean and had her close friends instead of being fair to all. Covenant yearly did an employee survey and took the results to heart. Committees were formed to make improvements. Some of the activities seemed to be excessive cost wise. Raises were decreased over time.

    Hospice Careers

Like most hospices, Center for Hospice Care relies on volunteer helpers to deliver many services. If you can drive, clean, fundraise, or just chat you can help us provide vital assistance in the Connecticut community. But, hospice can also make a rewarding career.

Without trained medical professionals, we can t provide the more clinical side of hospice care. Here are some of the roles that are filled by full or part-time staff:

Registered nurses. One of the most important hospice jobs! Our nurses visit hospice patients in their homes or in other care facilities, managing pain and other symptoms that may occur. They are also available to teach the basics of hospice care to family members and hospice volunteers. Nursing experience is necessary but hospice-specific training can be provided.

Hospice aides. Some care is provided by Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) rather than registered nurses, and these people are our hospice aides. Applicants should already be qualified as a CNA and have a current license and on CT CNA Registry. Like the registered nurses, hospice aides spend much of their time visiting patients and families at home.

Counselors. Counseling is a key part of our program, and is offered to caregivers and loved ones as well as hospice patients. In addition to one-on-one care, Center for Hospice Care also facilitates a range of bereavement support programs and support groups, which means careers for trained and certified counselors.
