Big blue surf center

Big Blue Surf Center is situated on the beach in front of the Natura Park Village Hotel on the north east coast of Kos Island. This area is called Psalidi and it is well known for windsurfing and kite boarding, and the Meltemi, the strong north/northwest wind which is blowing side/side off from the left, almost every day during the summer season. Big Blue Surf Center is perfectly positioned facing the coast of Turkey which is only 15 km off of the center. This creates a funnel effect on the Meltemi as it is squeezed between the two coastlines giving a stronger localized wind effect. It is 6km into the City from the center, and 25km to the airport.
The Big Blue Surf Center has a very friendly, family feel to it. It s a well equipped and organized center and operates a fixed board system.
The wind at Big Blue Surf Center is side/side-off shore from the left. Usually the wind is lighter in the morning when the majority of beginner courses take place, making the spot also great for beginners and kids. The wind gradually intensifies through the day and gives way to sensational slalom blasting with swell/chops up to 1m on the outside. Big Blue Surf Center is one of the few places in the world where all levels can practice their skills at the same time and practically all day long – beginners, intermediates and advanced! As well as the stunning views whilst sailing, the proximity of Turkey and Kos create a wind funnel system, making way to stronger winds than other spots on the island. The sailing area is large and safe, and there is dedicated Baywatch and Rescue service free of charge.

All amenities are on site, including:

  • Free Shuttle service from ant to the hotels of Psalidi
  • Toilets and Showers
  • Swimming Pool at the Natura Park Village
  • Free Beds and Umbrellas
  • Snacks and drinks in corporation with a take away restaurant.

The Center takes cash payment, and credit cards.
Recommend to bring surf shoes as there is a pebbled shore line.
Basic harness included in the price but recommend to bring own

Kitsap Hospice slated to open care center – Port Orchard Independent #hospice

#hospice of kitsap county

Kitsap Hospice slated to open care center

Hospice of Kitsap County formally opened its Bremerton Care Center this week and plans to begin receiving patients within the next four to six weeks.

“This is another way for people to receive hospice care in the county,” said Deputy Executive Director Valerie Youngren. “Sometimes staying at home is not an option, because the symptoms are too complicated or there is no caregiver available. And there is nothing that can be done for them in the hospital.”

Hospice care is designed to make people with a terminal illness more comfortable at the end of their lives. The average stay in hospice care is seven days.

The new center, formerly the assisted-living portion of the Belmont Care Center, has 15 private rooms. It will be staffed around the clock by four to eight people at a time, plus volunteers.

Unlike long-term care facilities that are designed for years of care with an overall goal to rehabilitate patients and hospitals geared toward providing acute care for optimal wellness, hospice care is solely focused on end-of-life care.

The center is intended to create a a warm, home-like environment, where patients will be able to live their last days fully and say good-bye to their loved ones with peace and dignity.

At the same time, expert medical resources will ensure the highest possible level of care.

Youngren said there is no local facility solely dedicated to end-of-life care, and this center will “give them a place at the end of their lives that will be as comfortable and as dignified as possible.”

Open to patients in January of 2012, our new Hospice Care Center offers sixteen elegantly-appointed patient rooms to provide a home-like setting. The inpatient unit is specifically designed to meet the needs of the terminally ill and their families with peace and serenity.

The Hospice Care Center recently received Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. HMC Hospice of Medina County is the first LEED Gold certified hospice facility in Ohio! Hospice Admission Criteria for Dementia Patients – Neurology Center: Medical Information on

    #hospice criteria for dementia

TUESDAY, Nov. 2 (HealthDay News) — Many people with advanced dementia aren’t getting much-needed hospice care because the admission criteria is flawed, researchers say.

“Dementia is a leading cause of death in the U.S. and hospice care can benefit patients with dementia. The main hindrance to getting palliative [comfort] care is guidelines that try to guide practitioners to wait until an estimated life expectancy of six months,” said Dr. Susan L. Mitchell, a senior scientist at the Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife in Boston, and lead author of a new study.

Such end-of-life predictions are difficult to make with certainty in dementia cases. Instead of using life expectancy as the requirement for admission, hospice care for dementia patients should be offered based on the patient’s and family’s desire for comfort care, suggest Mitchell and colleagues in the study published in the Nov. 3 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association .

Hospice, or palliative, care is most often associated with cancer patients. The goal is to provide comfort and support to patients and their families, instead of life-prolonging treatments.

For people with cancer, the decision to switch to palliative care is more clear-cut. It generally occurs when someone decides to forgo traditional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation, that don’t seem to be working anymore, and instead receive comfort care, which includes better pain management and discussions about important end-of-life care decisions.

For people with dementia, the decision process is murkier. Most people with advanced dementia are already in nursing homes, receiving around-the-clock care, but palliative care can provide families with additional support and help families make difficult decisions, such as whether or not to treat infections with antibiotics or to use a feeding tube to deliver nutrition. Palliative care may also provide better pain management and symptom relief, said Mitchell.

To improve the likelihood of dementia patients getting palliative care, Mitchell and her co-authors tried to come up with a better tool to assess their potential life expectancy.

This new method, dubbed the Advanced Dementia Prognostic Tool (ADEPT), includes 12 items, such as body mass index, ability to perform tasks of daily living like self-feeding, bowel incontinence, shortness of breath and oral food intake.

The researchers compared their assessment tool with the standard Medicare hospice eligibility guidelines on 606 residents in 21 nursing homes.

Their tool accurately predicted a life expectancy of fewer than six months 67% of the time, versus 55% for the Medicare guidelines, said Mitchell.

“While ADEPT was better than the Medicare criteria, its predictive ability isn’t perfect,” said Mitchell. “The delivery of palliative care should be guided by a preference of comfort care rather than by life expectancy,” she added.

A 2009 study by Mitchell and her colleagues was the first to label dementia a terminal illness like cancer and other incurable diseases.

Dr. Joseph Shega, an associate professor in the section of geriatrics and palliative medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center, said he agrees that the issue of comfort care for dementia patients deserves attention.

“It’s important to recognize that we’re not really good at figuring out how long someone with dementia might live, and I agree with these authors that we should focus more on the goals of care and stop spending resources on trying to figure out how long someone might live,” said Shega.

“Hospice provides more support for nursing home staff, better support for the family, and can help better educate the family on the natural process of dementia so they know what’s going on,” he explained.

Hospice also helps manage symptoms, like discomfort or agitation, Shega added, while making sure that care plans and treatment goals agree with the values and wishes of the patients and their families.

Mitchell, M.D. M.P.H. senior scientist, Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife, Boston; Joseph Shega, M.D. associate professor, section of geriatrics and palliative medicine, University of Chicago Medical Center; Nov. 3, 2010, Journal of the American Medical Association

Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center

The SECU Hospice House of Brunswick provides patients a comfortable and dignified place for end-of-life care in a warm, familiar setting. The owner requested that the facility have a coastal farmhouse feel, and designers incorporated simple and elegant materials which recall vernacular rural forms. The 13,400 SF facility, owned by the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCareCenter, includes 7 bedrooms, a family kitchen and dining room, small family gathering spaces, and medical and administrative support spaces. Each patient room has a private outdoor patio with a covered porch, allowing outdoor use in various weather conditions.

The centerpiece of this project is the memorial wall. The wall was built to resemble the natural shoreline of North Carolina with the embedding of shells and pressed sea images into the wall. Surrounding the memorial wall and building are garden areas with plants and trees that are native to Southeastern North Carolina. The garden areas offer a sanctuary for patients and their families, employees, and other visitors to the campus. A gravel walkway enhances the natural amenities of the site and provides a peaceful place for outdoors enjoyment and self reflection.

Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Inc. worked with LS3P in designing an inpatient care center with green technologies and LEED Certification in mind. The project was designed to pursue enough credits to achieve LEED Silver Certification. With design completion, plans and specifications were incorporated to include LEED Certification Requirements

Brooklyn, NY He may have been completely reliant on an oxygen tank and too frail to move, but Christopher Robinson was determined to marry the love of his life.

According to the NY Daily News. Robinson was diagnosed in August 2014 with a rare and aggressive form of renal cancer. By the time it was discovered, doctors said it had already spread to his lungs and he only had a few months left to live. Then, last week, he checked into MJHS Hospice for all-day care.

But despite the fact that he was running out of time. Robinson was determined to make Terry Torres his bride. A kind city clerk brought him the paperwork, and hospice staff miraculously pulled together music. cake, and decorations in 24 hours. On Thursday, the ceremony was officially held.

Christopher Robinson kissing his new bride Terry Torres (MJHS Hospice)

“Christopher actually stood up from his wheelchair and that brought me to tears,” Terry said to the NY Daily News. She and their two-year-old son, C.J. looked amazing dressed all in white inside the hospice.

The couple had already seen each other through several rough patches on the road to their union. Robinson had been shot five times during a burglary in 2013, and for some time, they lived through the shelter systems as they struggled to find work and a place to live.

How to encrypt sensitive data? Put it in an encrypted container #data

How to encrypt sensitive data? Put it in an encrypted container

Abrham Sorecha asked how to password-protect a folder.

You can’t effectively password-protect a folder without encrypting it. And strictly speaking, you can’t truly encrypt a folder, because a folder is not actually a container. It just looks like one to the user. The data comprising the files inside any given folder may be strewn all over the drive’s media.

But there are alternatives. You can encrypt every file in the folder. You can put the folder into an encrypted .zip archive, or into an encrypted vault.

You can effectively encrypt a folder with Windows’ own Encrypted File System (EFS)—at least if you have something more expensive than a Home edition of Windows. You need a Pro or Ultimate edition of Windows to get EFS.

Just to clear things up, these versions of Windows have two encryption tools. EFS encrypts files and—in a sense—folders. BitLocker encrypts partitions and drives.

To encrypt a folder with EFS, select Properties, click the Advanced button, and check Encrypt contents to secure data. When you close out the Properties dialog box, keep Apply changes to this folder, subfolders, and files.

This will encrypt every file in this folder and its subfolders. New files created or dragged here will also get encrypted. Other people will be able to see the files and the file names, but they won’t be able to open the files. Only you—or at least, only someone logged on as you—can open these files.

EFS’s way of handling encryption makes a lot of sense in an office environment, where you can assume you’ve got an organized and knowledgeable IT department, but you can’t assume that employees understand the word encryption. When the user is logged on, the files appear to be unencrypted; otherwise, they can’t be read. But someone, probably IT, needs to know where the special, generated encryption key is kept—elsewhere in the office—in case Windows has to be reinstalled or the data transferred elsewhere.

No wonder Microsoft keeps this out of the hands of Home edition users.

Instead, I’m recommending VeraCrypt. a free, open-source fork of the gone and much-missed TrueCrypt. This version was created and is being maintained by French security consultant Mounir Idrassi.

If you’re familiar with TrueCrypt, you’ll be right at home. Its simple (if unattractive) user interface is almost identical to the earlier program’s. Like TrueCrypt, you can create an encrypted file container, or encrypt a partition or your entire drive. You can hide a container (VeraCrypt calls them volumes ) inside another file if you like.

The collapse of TrueCrypt has left a lot of us feeling shaken. I can’t promise that if the NSA really wanted to get to your files, they couldn’t crack VeraCrypt—or EFS. But if you’re worried about a typical hacker—or of the NSA sucking up your data along with everyone else’s—I think you’d be safe with either of these.

Flexible and Effective Outpatient Programs for Alcohol and Drug Rehab in St Louis MO

A Quality of Life approach for clients and their families.

Where your experience will exceed your expectations

Any St. Louis rehabilitation center can provide treatment; MIA provides the difference. There are many drug rehab centers in Missouri, but very few of these rehab centers compare to Midwest Institute for Addiction’s facilities and programs. This differentiation goes beyond our comprehensive, individualized, and evidence based treatment model and focuses on the quality of services that we offer. There is a lack of separation in the minds of professional service providers when considering the difference between a product offered and the service that coincides with that product. The MIA difference is the ability to distinguish our product and service and offer quality services that coincide with our quality treatment. Clients entering our rehab facilities experience the responsiveness, adaptability, accessibility, and compassion that separate our rehab in St. Louis from other rehabilitation centers and provide an environment nurturing recovery and wellness. Client and family satisfaction is important to our addiction treatment team, because each client is at the epicenter of what we do. MIA’s framework and culture are second to none.

    A Comprehensive Treatment Team

MIA’s St. Louis Rehabilitation Centers provide a comprehensive set of solutions for those dealing with alcohol and drug addiction. With great sensitivity and understanding our multi-disciplinary treatment team communicates and corroborates to facilitate an effective and malleable treatment process. Clients are provided medical, psychiatric, and behavioral services that include visits with our medical doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist, individual therapists, family and couple therapists, group therapists, dietitian, health and wellness experts, mindfulness and meditation experts, and more. In conjunction with these services, clients undergo continual medical monitoring with toxicology and blood work, psychological assessments, medication management including Suboxone and Vivitrol®, and additional ancillary services. Our clients receive unlimited services, unlike many programs, while they are attending our alcohol and drug rehab St Louis centers and are entitled to a lifetime of relapse prevention once they complete our program.

    A Quality of Life Approach

Unlike other drug rehab centers in Missouri our rehab in St. Louis offers a complete continuum of care (inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment) that goes beyond alcohol and drug use alone. The MIA approach focuses on “quality of life”, by addressing various elements of our clients circumstances including physical health, psychiatric health, family health, social health, financial health, legal issues, occupational issues, and of course alcohol and drug use. Outcomes and assessments of MIA clients are based on these elements; we can identify the severity and change to identify areas of need for each individual which shapes that client’s treatment.

    What This Means to You

So what does this mean for you and your family? Our rehab center provides evidence-based treatment delivered by some of the most experienced providers in the St. Louis area. We deliver quality services at times that are convenient to you because we understand you have other obligations; this translates into weekdays and weekends, as well as times when other rehab facilities are closed. MIA is always accessible by phone and in-person to ensure the highest level of support possible. We take your care seriously always advocating for our clients and their families. Our array of unlimited services means a treatment process rich in quality rather than a minimal approach. Contact our team today to see the MIA difference for yourself.

Illinois Addiction and Inpatient Drug Rehab – Addiction Center #drug #rehab #center

Illinois Addiction and Inpatient Drug Rehab

There are dozens of treatment centers in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. Illinois has rehabs up and down the state, including ones that are more secluded from busier, more populated areas. We can help you find a rehab near you right now .

    Top Rehabs in Illinois

While there are many great drug and alcohol rehabs in Illinois, not all rehabs are equally rated. The best rehabs offer a full staff of specialists and personalized treatment plans. Here are some of the top drug rehabs in Illinois:

Rosecrance Health Network (Rockford and Northern Illinois)

There are over 20 inpatient and outpatient rehabs in the Rosecrance Health Network, with a majority of it inpatient centers in Rockford. Rosecrance treats over 13,000 people within its network each year, offering intervention services, detox, treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders and services for family members.

Rosecrance has several centers specifically designed to help addicted young people. Roughly nine miles from the Harrison campus is the Griffin Williamson Campus, a 78-bed, residential treatment center for young people ages 12-18.

When residents complete treatment at a Rosecrance facility, they can transfer to a recovery home. These homes are more private and offer more freedom than during the residential part of the program. This helps people transition into life after rehab.

Gateway Treatment Centers (North, South, and Central Illinois)

The Gateway Foundation has inpatient rehabs across the state of Illinois, from Chicago to Springfield to Carbondale. This rehab foundation puts a heavy focus on individualized treatment plans for its residents. Gateway considers each resident’s drug use history, physical and mental health issues, and even details about his or her lifestyle. Each person at Gateway is assigned a counselor to help create a personalized treatment plan.

In addition to individual counseling, residents also receive group counseling, substance abuse education and relapse prevention training. Residents may be prescribed medications for drug cravings or withdrawal if needed. Gateway also encourages families to be involved in their loved one’s treatment process.

Gateway accepts most forms of insurance as an in-network provider, so insurance may cover the full cost of treatment.

    Timberline Knolls (Lemont)

Timberline Knolls is a renowned addiction treatment center for women. The rehab consists of four residential lodges on 43 acres of forested land, just a half-hour drive from O’Hare and Midway airports. Each lodge is equipped with its own nursing staff. Timberline Knolls is also known for treating eating disorders that often affect young women.

Like all reputable rehabs, each resident entering Timberline has an assessment of their addiction and any co-occurring disorders. Then the counselors develop a specific and unique treatment plan for that individual.

Timberline uses dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and family therapy to help each woman work past underlying behaviors that led to addiction. There are also experiential therapies, such as equine and art therapy.

    The Pavilion (Champaign)

Providing addiction treatment for adolescents and adults since 1989, the Pavilion is a 77-bed residential treatment center with a full staff of psychiatrists, nurses, physicians and case managers. Each person admitted to this rehab gets a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and a personalized treatment plan. Because recovery is an ongoing process, the Pavilion helps residents establish aftercare plans and goals.

The Pavilion offers financial assistance to those who are uninsured or can’t afford treatment. Financial help is based on the needs of each individual, and the rehab’s staff can help eligible people apply for state-funded insurance.

The Pavilion is recognized as a top performing treatment center by The Joint Commission, one of the nation’s leading healthcare accreditation organizations.

    Should I Travel for Treatment?

Depending on your treatment needs, addiction rehabs in Illinois may offer more than the rehabs in your area. Residents in the Midwest often travel to top rehabs in Illinois for better treatment, but also to get away from their current environment. Many people seek a change of scenery during addiction treatment because so many parts of their old environment are associated with drug and alcohol use. Getting away from that minimizes distractions during treatment and helps prevent relapse.

    Illinois State Addiction Services

The state of Illinois has extensive programs addressing the problem of addiction among its residents. The Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA), part of the Illinois Department of Human Services, is the primary provider of services for addicted people.

Illinois residents can access these services through agencies found in most communities in the state. The state designed these agencies to help assess and treat people close to their homes.

Addiction services offered by DASA include:

    • Psychiatric evaluation
    • Early intervention services
    • Case management
    • Outpatient treatment
    • Individual counseling
    • Intensive outpatient treatment
    • Detoxification
    • Residential rehabilitation

The state of Illinois also offers a program called Extended Care, which is outpatient treatment for those who have completed residential rehab. Extended Care provides additional support for those transitioning to life after rehab.

Although any Illinois resident can use these services, certain people are given priority for treatment. Some of these high-priority groups include:

    • Pregnant women (especially intravenous drug users)
    • Women with children
    • People referred to the Department of Children and Family Services
    • Low-income families
    • Those recently released from jail

The rates of drug use drop considerably six months after treatment at an Illinois state treatment center.

    Harm Reduction Laws in Illinois

There are several laws in the state of Illinois designed to minimize the impact of substance abuse in each community. Some of these include:

    • 911 Good Samaritan law This law protects drug offenders in Illinois calling 911 in the event of an overdose. The person making the call can avoid charges for drug possession as a result of helping save someone’s life.
    • Rescue drug law In 2010, it became legal for non-medical persons to administer naloxone in the event of an opiate overdose. Naloxone reverses the effects of opiates like heroin. During this year, programs approved through the state’s Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse began distributing naloxone.
    • HIV Counseling and Testing Illinois has 37 state-funded programs for those who have HIV or are at risk of contracting the infection. The purpose of these programs is to reduce the rates of HIV transmission, especially among intravenous drug users, by teaching methods to protect oneself and counseling to prevent infecting others.

    Illinois Medicaid and Addiction Treatment

In Illinois, those who are eligible can use Medicaid to cover the costs of addiction treatment. Medicaid is a government-funded health insurance program for low-income individuals.

Illinois is among the states that expanded Medicaid benefits and coverage in 2014 under the Affordable Care Act. also known as “Obamacare.” In Illinois, Medicaid now covers the costs of inpatient drug rehab and detoxification programs. While not all rehabs accept Medicaid, many programs accept other types of insurance.

    Illinois Drug Courts

The drug court system in Illinois gives nonviolent drug offenders an alternative to incarceration — help for their addiction. The purpose of these drug courts is to reduce repeat offenses that lead to multiple incarcerations.

Drug courts help first-time or previous low-level offenders who are charged with a nonviolent drug violation.

Drugs courts allow these individuals to avoid conviction by attending treatment for their substance abuse. Upon completion of the treatment program, charges may be dropped or a sentence reduced or removed (if they had a previous offense).

    Find Addiction Treatment in Illinois

There are so many resources in Illinois for addicted people and their families who are looking for help. Whether you’re looking for an outpatient treatment center near home or a residential rehab in a removed area of the state, we can help. Pasadena is home to many high-end retail establishments and as a result there are numerous arrests and prosecutions for theft offenses. including shoplifting, that are litigated at the Pasadena Courthouse. These theft offenses can either be felonies or misdemeanors, depending on the extent of the theft and the defendant s criminal history. Those who are arrested for theft will often be cited for an arraignment date at the Pasadena Courthouse. It is very important to contact a criminal defense attorney experienced in handling Pasadena cases right away if you receive a citation for theft.

    Pasadena Domestic Violence

Domestic violence arrests are also very common in the Pasadena area. Law enforcement take these crimes seriously and will pursue criminal charges against those arrested. In many cases, the alleged victim has no interest in pressing charges, however the prosecutor can, and often will, pursue criminal charges even without the cooperation of the victim. It is absolutely critical to meet with a qualified criminal defense attorney as soon as possible, as the early intervention before a case has been sent to the prosecutor can result in charges being rejected or reduced significantly. In addition to domestic violence involving those who are married or in romantic relationships, domestic violence offense also include elder abuse and certain other assault and battery cases. These are often considered domestic violence crimes and those convicted may be subject to mandatory sentencing provisions.

    Pasadena White Collar Offenses

White collar crimes can include a number of different criminal offenses, including grand theft, embezzlement, credit card fraud, computer crime, mortgage fraud, identity theft and many more. The loss suffered by a victim does not have to be extensive for an offense to be considered a white collar crime, however the extent of financial damages can often steep. Prosecutors and law enforcement officers take these crimes very seriously as they often involve taking advantage of a position of trust or feature a high degree of criminal sophistication. These cases often involve complex legal issues and extensive amounts of evidentiary material and anyone who has been charged with a white collar crime or who believes they may be under investigation for this type of offense should speak with an attorney experienced in handling complex criminal matters immediately.

    Drug Crime in Pasadena

Every week, law enforcement officers in Pasadena conduct arrests for a wide variety of drug crimes. including possession, production, drug sales and possession for sale. These can be very serious charges and anyone facing drug charges in Pasadena should speak with an attorney right away.

If you or someone you know have been arrested for a criminal offense in Pasadena, it is imperative that you discuss your case with an experienced criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. Where is the evidence that animal research benefits humans?

Much animal research into potential treatments for humans is wasted because it is poorly conducted and not evaluated through systematic reviews

Clinicians and the public often consider it axiomatic that animal research has contributed to the treatment of human disease, yet little evidence is available to support this view. Few methods exist for evaluating the clinical relevance or importance of basic animal research, and so its clinical (as distinct from scientific) contribution remains uncertain. 1 Anecdotal evidence or unsupported claims are often used as justification—for example, statements that the need for animal research is “self evident” 2 or that “Animal experimentation is a valuable research method which has proved itself over time.” 3 Such statements are an inadequate form of evidence for such a controversial area of research. We argue that systematic reviews of existing and future research are needed.

    Assessing animal research

Despite the lack of systematic evidence for its effectiveness, basic animal research in the United Kingdom receives much more funding than clinical research. 1 4 5 Given this, and because the public accepts animal research only on the assumption that it benefits humans, 6 the clinical relevance of animal experiments needs urgent clarification.

Several methods are available to evaluate animal research. These include historical analysis, 7 critiques of animal models, 8 investigations into the development of treatments, 5 surveys of clinicians’ views, 9 and citation analyses. 10 However, perhaps the best way of producing evidence about the value of animal research is to conduct systematic reviews of animal studies and, where possible, compare the results of these with the results of the corresponding clinical trials. So what do studies that have done this show?

    Systematic reviews of animal research

We searched Medline to identify published systematic reviews of animal experiments (see for the search strategy). The search identified 277 possible papers, of which 22 …

In January of 2012, Travel and Leisure rated New York as the rudest city in America, in honor of the New Yorker’s ability to speak up in somewhat colorful language and immediately recognizable gestures. New York was also rated number one for diversity, and that’s a trend that appears in the New York drug rehab market as well. In this city where people are able to express themselves and diversity is honored, it’s easy to find a tailored drug treatment center that’s designed just for you and your addiction.

We can help you get started.

Addictions are considered chronic conditions that can be kept in check but not ever truly healed. As part of your comprehensive treatment program, you’ll learn how to keep a relapse to drug use at bay by:

    • Identifying the emotions the cause cravings
    • Avoiding the people and places you associate with drugs
    • Using meditation or relaxation techniques to help you weather bad times
    • Finding people you can talk to when the urge to use seems overwhelming

Different Addictions, Different Treatments Addictions to substances like alcohol and heroin are common targets for New York treatment centers, but people can develop addictions to all sorts of behaviors as well, and these addictions can also cause distress. For example, a nun in New York with a gambling addiction was facing theft charges in 2012 after she allegedly removed funds from the churches she worked for and used the money at local casinos, the Associated Press reports. She lost her job as well.

If you have an addiction to gambling, sexual activity, shopping or some other activity, you’ll need a different kind of treatment than someone who is addicted to a substance, such as alcohol or cocaine. Both sets of addictions are treated with therapy and/or medications, but the therapy techniques can vary dramatically and the educational process is also quite a bit different.

As you’re looking for the right treatment program, be sure to keep the nature of your addiction in mind and be honest with the counselors you talk to about your addictions. They’ll want to know all about your background, so they can provide you with the right kind of help.

The Substance Abuse and Mental health treatment Administration reports that there are more than 400 addiction treatment centers in New York City alone. Having so many options can be positive, as mentioned, since it means that you’ll likely find it easy to customize your care. But it can also be difficult to sort through all of the New York addiction treatment programs available. Should you use a nonprofit agency, such as the Melillo Center for Mental Health. Or should you use a for-profit company that can provide you with residential care? It can be hard to come up with answers to all of these questions, especially if an addiction is leaving you feeling a little disconnected and depressed.

We can help. We keep an extensive list of addiction treatment programs, located both in New York and all across the country. We’re happy to talk with you and help match you with a facility that might meet your needs.

Reliability – Redundancy: Understanding the High-Availability Data Center – The Data Center

Reliability Redundancy: Understanding the High-Availability Data Center

written by Chris Alberding April 21, 2016

High availability in the data center refers to systems and components that are continuously operational for a long time. It typically means the systems have been thoroughly tested, are regularly maintained and have redundant components installed to ensure continuous operation.

How does a data center ensure reliable power? What level of redundancy is necessary for a high-availability data center? These are two critical issues that weigh on the minds of data center and IT leaders. Why? Because they understand that uninterrupted power is the lifeblood of their operations. And they know the devastating effects an unplanned outage can have on the well-being of their organizations.

Downtime can result from a power outage, equipment failure, natural disaster, human error, fire, flood or a wide range of other causes. It can lead to lost revenue, customers, productivity, equipment and brand loyalty. As a data center or IT leader, your goal is to provide continuous operation of your facility under all circumstances. Many factors contribute to data center reliability. People, processes and equipment all play a huge role in increasing availability.

Data center managers address reliability by implementing many measures, such as hiring and training the right staff members and developing, implementing and testing proven procedures. They also make sure the data center infrastructure has built-in redundancy and reliability—for power, network connectivity, fire detection, moisture detection, lightning protection, sophisticated monitoring systems, generator and UPS backup systems, fire-detection and fire-suppression systems, moisture-detection systems, and lightning protection.

To create higher levels of redundancy, for example, you can configure servers to switch responsibilities to a remote server when needed. This backup process is referred to as failover. Failover is a backup method that uses a secondary component to take over functioning whenever the primary component becomes unavailable. Secondary components can assume operation during scheduled maintenance or when an unexpected power outage occurs.

Failover techniques make systems more fault-tolerant and are necessary to ensure constant availability of mission-critical operations. When a primary component offloads tasks to a secondary component, the procedure is seamless to end users.

In addition to configuring failover components, high availability also involves good design factors. All aspects of data center infrastructure must be evaluated for durability, beginning with a thorough understanding of each component’s metrics as published by the manufacturer, including capacity limitations and life expectancy.

Let’s examine three systems areas that data center managers should consider when looking to improve reliability.

    Redundant Systems and Components

Providing redundant systems and components can help eliminate single points of failure in the IT infrastructure. But each data center manager must determine the appropriate level of redundancy for their operation. A thorough analysis is needed to arrive at an effective redundancy strategy.

Certainly, incorporating redundancy into a data center operation is critical. Achieving 100 percent redundancy, however, comes with a hefty price tag. And it’s important to note that high levels of redundancy don’t always mean a system is more reliable. Although this point may seem counterintuitive, increasing component redundancy creates a much more complex infrastructure. As complexity increases, management of the infrastructure becomes more challenging. Working with local data center experts can help you arrive at the right redundancy strategy for your organization.

    Backup Systems

Backup systems include the proper configuration of generator units and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. In a generation system, every available generator unit can be programmed to start automatically during a loss of utility power. As long as sufficient fuel is available, the generators power the entire data center load until the utility power source is restored.

When regular power is restored, the generators transfer the load back to the utility and stop operating. The transition to and from the backup-generator power is seamless when configured properly. The most effective designs will incorporate the necessary generators to supply power, as well as backup generators should any one unit fail.

Redundancy should also be built into the UPS system so that one failing module won’t affect the overall capacity of the system. Both generator and UPS systems can be configured for automatic and manual power transfer. Automatic transfer is critical during unexpected outages. Manual transfers are used for scheduled maintenance and testing of data center equipment and procedures without interfering with normal operations.

    Detection and Monitoring Systems

Although cyber-attacks get the bulk of publicity, environmental factors can be equally devastating to IT equipment and data center facilities. To minimize the impact of downtime, a data center operation must integrate detection systems. These systems can alert you to a problem before it becomes a crippling event.

Detection and monitoring systems will monitor environmental factors such as the following:

    • Temperature: Sensors will measure the heat being generated by equipment as well as the air-conditioning system’s intake and discharge.
    • Humidity and moisture: Sensors ensure high moisture levels won’t corrode electronic components and low levels won’t cause static electricity. They also monitor for leaks inside cooling equipment, leaks in pipes and flooding from a disaster.
    • Airflow: Sensors ensure air is properly flowing through racks and to/from the air-conditioning system.
    • Voltage: Sensors detect the presence or absence of line voltage.
    • Power: Monitoring systems measure current coming into the facility and determine when electrical failures occur.
    • Smoke: In addition to advising data center personnel of a potential fire, smoke alarms can also be configured to report directly to the local fire department.
    • Video surveillance: Real-time surveillance of data center activities, especially in sensitive areas, provide data center managers with a first-hand look of what’s going on in the facility, including who’s entering and exiting.

To meet an organization’s requirements and avoid costly consequences, data centers must deliver continuous uptime. Any unplanned downtime, even for just a few minutes, can disrupt your business operations and result in dire consequences. Even installing the best equipment available on the market cannot guarantee business continuity. A high-availability, reliable data center requires redundant designs, the right configuration of backup systems and advanced monitoring systems.

    Day view of Manhattan, New York, USA #manhattan, #new #york, #usa, #panorama,

    Open Virtual Tour

In 2006 I shot our very first spherical aerial panorama. from which the AirPano project started, in the beautiful place of the Colorado and the San Juan rivers confluence (USA):

The result was overwhelming by looking at the large screen one had a total illusion of flying over the canyon. And so we decided to continue our experiments.

The next attempt was made in 2007 above the island of Manhattan. I remember this photo shoot by one funny detail: there were no headphones for passengers in the helicopter’s cabin. I had to shout from the back seat (while trying to overcome the engine roar that was coming from the open door) to let the pilot know where to go. He didn’t hear me anyway, so in order to change the shooting position I had to tap on his shoulder and then after he looked at me I had to point the direction with my finger where the thumb down meant moving lower. And guess how I showed him to go higher 🙂 It was fun.

After that incident, when hiring a helicopter I always ask: Do you have passenger headphones in the cabin?
And pilots are always surprised: But of course! Is it possible not to have them?
Yes, it is possible, I answer In New York 🙂

Despite of all the difficulties, this photo shoot was accomplished, delivering world’s first virtual photo tour above Manhattan .

There were many more flights after this one, and many like-minded people joined AirPano project in the process. As of today we shot around 100 spherical panoramas of the most interesting and beautiful places in all the continents of our planet. Except for Antarctica. We also made virtual photo tours over the world’s most beautiful cities.

In 2011 we returned to New York to once again photograph Manhattan: this time making it much better technically and artistically. Enjoy the daytime aerial panoramas of Manhattan now. The evening flight over Manhattan and the large photographic virtual tour will be published in the nearest future.

New York is the most famous city of the USA, and Manhattan is the most famous part of New York. It all started 400 years ago when the most famous and profitable in human history real estate deal was made: the Native Americans sold this ‘not so useful’ piece of land to Europeans for 24 dollars.

Since that time the island has changed dramatically. For 24 dollars one can probably buy a ticket to the Empire State Building.

Present day Manhattan is the most populated island on Earth. The land itself costs about 40 billion US dollars, and the cost of the entire Manhattan, including its real estate, reaches over 3 trillion US dollars.

This remarkable part of New York City is best to be discovered on foot not only because of the infamous New York traffic or cost of parking in New York. There is a joke in New York that only wasteful people can afford driving in New York, because the time one spends on finding a parking spot sometimes equals the time it takes to drive from one side of Manhattan to another.

New York is known to be a financial capital of the world, and the island of Manhattan is where all the banks, offices, largest insurance companies and corporations are located literally one on top of another. Basically the rest of New York, and eventually, the rest of the United States, work for Manhattan, making sure that this gigantic city inside of the city continues its mission processing the wealth of the whole world.

Besides a large number of museums, almost every building in Manhattan has a historical value. Old buildings harmoniously coexist with the best examples of the modern architecture. Most famous New York attractions are located in Manhattan, including Empire State Building mentioned above, Central Park and Times Square. There is also colorful China Town and bright Broadway they are all located on this island. It is a shame not to bring a photo of Manhattan from your trip to New York!

We also made our modest Manhattan photo album. These panoramas were photographed in the summer of 2011.

ALCOHOL ADDICTION and How it Works

    Alcohol Addiction

It is often difficult to determine the difference between “Social Drinking” and “Alcohol Addiction .” Some indications that you might need alcohol abuse rehab include the time of day that drinking begins, the frequency of drinks and the amount consumed. These and other factors about the way you use alcohol can all be warning signs. When you start looking for alcoholism signs in others or even yourself, it is important to be brutally honest about the behaviors. At Valiant Recovery, we offer assistance with a number of substance abuse issues, including drug and alcohol help. Our individualized care plans mean that we personalize our alcohol rehab program for each of our clients, making sure to keep it balanced with experiential therapies. We are not your typical alcohol abuse treatment center as we strive for more than just the elimination of alcohol but rather balancing the outside life so the addiction can be corrected, not just the symptom which results in alcoholism signs .

If you need help, please call us 1.877.618.6464

    How Alcohol Addiction Works

Alcohol Addiction does not happen overnight, for most people it happens over years of subtly increasing use of alcohol. Often, it happens so slowly that you have no idea you are becoming addicted. It is important to watch for the alcoholism signs early on in your own life and in the lives of those you care about. Alcohol is absorbed by the blood and enters the brain, attaching itself to the receptors in the brain and slowing down the central nervous system. Extended alcohol abuse damages these receptors, making it difficult for the mind and body to function normally and properly. Greater receptor damage leads to a greater dependency on alcohol. Unfortunately, the body is meanwhile developing a tolerance to drinking. Now, the person has to consume more to obtain the same effect. This leads to stronger drinks or combining drugs with alcohol. The practice of combining drugs (prescription or recreational) with alcohol is very dangerous. It can result in overdosing or death.

The most destructive and devastating part of Alcohol Addiction is the physical dependency on alcohol. The process of withdrawal is of primary concern in alcohol treatment programs. Withdrawal for someone who is alcohol dependent can be accompanied by seizures and even death. Medically supervised detoxification is the recommended approach to dependency and withdrawing. This can only be done at a qualified alcohol abuse treatment center. There are medications that can be used to help reduce the effects and symptoms that a person may experience. After the ‘detox’ process the alcohol dependent individual should be enrolled in an alcohol rehab program, like the one here at Valiant Recovery. It is crucial to keep an eye on the alcoholism signs in order to notice if there has been any regression in their treatment plan.

There are a vast number of issues and aspects to the Alcohol abuse treatment process.

Alcoholics Anonymous (‘AA’) is an example of a well-known program which comes to mind for most people. A key aspect of such alcohol rehab programs is the “12 step program” originally introduced by AA. At Valiant Recovery we also incorporate the “12 step program,” along with other effective methods.

Unlike most alcohol rehabilitation centers, we take a personalized approach to all of our treatments. We design a customized plan of care around each individual. Every person has their different and individual needs for a successful treatment process. We are committed to providing for each of these needs and addictions. At Valiant Recovery we emphasize one-on-one counseling in our alcohol addiction recovery program to deal with personal issues and allow for diagnosis of any concurrent disorders. We are trained to recognize any and all alcoholism signs. If any additional disorders are discovered they are incorporated into the individual program for that person.

At Valiant Recovery our clients care and recovery is our priority. We know that when you can sense genuine concern from caregivers, your treatment time will be more positive and productive.

At Valiant Recovery our alcohol rehab programs consist of a balance of different therapy models. These include experiential therapy which is the use of daily activities such as nature walks, skiing, golfing or horseback riding. These activities are enjoyable and provide positive and healthy experiences of a life worth living. There is more to the process at our alcohol abuse treatment center than just talking or the absence of alcohol.

Valiant Recovery understands that it takes a serious commitment and several months before the addiction to alcohol is completely gone. We will provide continuing care and relapse prevention plans to help our clients live a free and sober life. Our post-care alcohol abuse rehab counselors will help you find post treatment support in your home town.

There are many signs which may indicate that you or a loved one needs alcohol abuse treatment. Many individuals with an alcohol problem use the excuse of social drinking, but if you are drinking alone or drinking on a daily basis then it may be time to seek help. Watch for varying degrees of alcoholism signs in yourself and your loved ones. It may not be clear in the beginning but that is the best time for your loved one or yourself to go to an alcohol abuse treatment center to achieve the most positive results.

Our staff at Valiant Recovery want you to understand that you do not have to be alone in this ordeal and we are here to help you or a loved one you care for get the treatment that is needed. Our wish is to help our clients recover from their addictions and damaging behaviors with the understanding that recovery was a crucial step to living a much happier life.

    Drug Alcohol Addiction Rehab

Why Should You Trust Our Drug Rehab Facility?

You or Your Loved One is Ready for Change. What is Stopping You?
Below are a few reasons that may be holding you back:

1- How do I know if this is a reputable facility?
15 years experience in providing successful recovery to those struggling with addiction.

    2- Is the cost affordable?
You know what they say, if there is a will there is a way. Besides the many insurance plans accepted in our facility, there are many ways we can help you make your recovery affordable. Let’s talk.

3- I’ve heard of rehab facilities being just revolving doors for addicts. Get clean, relapse and come back again.
Yes we know relapse is the biggest factor in the life of a recovering addict. We have plans and procedures in place that will give you the tools and the support when you are most vulnerable to relapse. You can and you will succeed. There is no reason for failure.

4- Is this a safe place and up to the standards of a medical rehab facility?

But we go beyond the required minimum standards to ensure client’s recovery success. The balanced nutritious meals prepared daily by our gourmet chef and the spacious rooms with private baths are all parts of what makes recovery at our facility as comfortable as possible.

5- Is this place licensed for medical detox?
We are licensed as a medical detox facility and provide 24hr monitoring and medical care to those patients who require detox before starting therapy. We are proud of the comfort and the safety that we offer during the critical detox period.

If you see any other reason that may stop you from getting treatment, starting now, call us. Let’s have a conversation about why it is crucial to start today.

A Center for Addiction Recovery, CFAR, is an accredited rehab center, providing the most up-to-date Medical Detox, Intensive Outpatient and Residential Addiction Treatment Programs since 2002. Our addiction treatment programs provide treatment for male and female clients who are struggling with alcohol, drugs, prescription drugs and process addictions such as compulsive gambling and eating disorders.

CFAR embraces traditional and holistic approaches in the treatment of addiction which includes the non-12 Step SMART RECOVERY, and the 12 Step Recovery Program. All addiction treatment programs at A Center for Addiction Recovery focus on treating the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of our clients’ recovery, helping them to identify and address the root causes that may have triggered their addictive behaviors. There are many instances that a past trauma has played a major role in someone’s addiction which in turns affects his or her treatment and recovery. In such cases we utilize the most promising trauma treatment approach, Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT), which is exclusively delivered at A Center for Addiction Recovery by the founder and the developer of this therapy, Dr. Jon Connelly.

During RRT clients do not become overwhelmed or feel helpless by re-living the traumatic event. Neither do they go through hypnosis. They are able to clear their trauma while awake and present. Once the mind is clear from the trauma, clients have a far greater chance of achieving a successful recovery. With one-half to two-thirds of people with addictions suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and about the same proportion of people with PTSD having developed an addiction, CFAR finds it absolutely essential to treat both conditions effectively at the same time to provide clients with the best chance for a successful recovery.

All of our addiction treatment therapies are delivered by our experienced, caring and non-judgmental addiction specialists which consist of physicians, psychiatrists, nursing professionals, licensed social workers and mental health counselors. All treatment services are provided in our 12 acre facility without any need to transport clients to different locations for different therapies. This allows our clients to comfortably transition from detox to residential treatment under the supervision of the staff that has got to know them and follows their treatment closely through various stages of recovery.

    Relieving Stress During Addiction Treatment

As part of CFAR’s innovative approach in the treatment of addiction, we combine medical detox with biofeedback sessions. This powerful treatment approach is delivered at our Serenity Lounge, where a combination of music, choreographed imagery, vibrations and bi-neural beats are utilized to induce a natural meditative state. By utilizing biofeedback therapy, clients practice deep-breathing and engage in positive emotional thoughts. The “Serenity” biofeedback sessions are proven to be a very successful tool in aiding the process of mental and emotional healing in individuals who are starting their recovery. Biofeedback is one of the many holistic therapies that A Center for Addiction Recovery offers to promote relaxation and stress release. These therapies include but are not limited to: Yoga, Meditation, Massage Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Personal Training and sports activities such as Basketball and Volleyball.

    What does Hospice cost?

Center for Hospice Care can provide services to those who meet the qualifications regardless of financial status. We do not turn anyone away because they cannot pay. If you are worried about the cost of caring for a terminally ill person, or worried about your family s finances when you are terminally ill, please do get in touch with us. We can discuss your options and hopefully ease your concerns.

Hospice care is widely covered by private insurance plans, although your provider is the best person to talk to when it comes to details about what is and is not covered by your plan.

    Medicare and Medicaid

Patients who are eligible for Medicare/Medicaid Hospice Benefit will be able to get most hospice costs covered. That includes both clinical services such as pain relief, and support services. Some services may also be available to caregivers and loved ones at no extra cost. Usually, families of Medicare/Medicaid patients will have to pay very little for services related to the terminal illness.

Those who are not covered by Medicare or any other insurance will still be provided with hospice care. We will not refuse assistance because of an inability to pay. In some circumstances we can also help find out if terminally ill patients are eligible for special coverage that they may not currently be accessing.

Through the support offered by the community of Eastern Connecticut in the form of volunteer time and philanthropic donations, we can help make sure no terminally ill person goes without hospice care because of the cost.

What is network topology? Definition from #data #center #network #topology

    network topology

A network topology is the arrangement of a network, including its nodes and connecting lines. There are two ways of defining network geometry: the physical topology and the logical (or signal) topology.

The physical topology of a network is the actual geometric layout of workstations. There are several common physical topologies, as described below and as shown in the illustration.

In the bus network topology, every workstation is connected to a main cable called the bus. Therefore, in effect, each workstation is directly connected to every other workstation in the network.

In the star network topology, there is a central computer or server to which all the workstations are directly connected. Every workstation is indirectly connected to every other through the central computer.

In the ring network topology, the workstations are connected in a closed loop configuration. Adjacent pairs of workstations are directly connected. Other pairs of workstations are indirectly connected, the data passing through one or more intermediate nodes.

If a Token Ring protocol is used in a star or ring topology, the signal travels in only one direction, carried by a so-called token from node to node.

The mesh network topology employs either of two schemes, called full mesh and partial mesh. In the full mesh topology, each workstation is connected directly to each of the others. In the partial mesh topology, some workstations are connected to all the others, and some are connected only to those other nodes with which they exchange the most data.

The tree network topology uses two or more star networks connected together. The central computers of the star networks are connected to a main bus. Thus, a tree network is a bus network of star networks.

Logical (or signal) topology refers to the nature of the paths the signals follow from node to node. In many instances, the logical topology is the same as the physical topology. But this is not always the case. For example, some networks are physically laid out in a star configuration, but they operate logically as bus or ring networks.
