Certified Medication Aide (CMA)

The Certified Medication Aide course focuses on the knowledge and skills needed for safe medication administration in long-term care communities. The instruction includes classroom, skills lab and clinical experiences. Graduates are eligible to take the Kansas certification examination to become certified. This course builds upon the role of a certified nurse aide (CNA) and includes accurately measuring, administering and documenting medications to residents. Students must be 18 years of age and successfully pass the WATC entrance exam.

Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)

The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program prepares students to be caregivers in nursing homes while working under the supervision of licensed nurses. The instruction includes classroom, skills lab and clinical experiences. Students must successfully complete a competency skills checklist, maintain attendance as defined in the course syllabus and achieve satisfactory grades. Classes meet for approximately eight weeks, and evening classes meet for approximately three months. The program meets the guidelines of the Kansas Department on Aging and Disability Services and graduates may take the state examination to become CNAs after successful completion of the course

Home Health Aide (HHA)

The Home Health Aide course prepares the certified nurse aide (CNA) to care for patients in community and home settings. Graduates are eligible to take the Kansas certification examination to become a certified home health aide. Documentation and identification of client needs is an important part of this course. Many home health aides are also hired to work at hospice agencies and with agencies working with children. Students must successfully pass the WATC entrance exam to be enrolled in this course.

Programme Delivery
There is a focus on action and experiential learning including interactive presentations, industry specific case studies, team work, individual assignments and entrepreneurship and small business-related projects which stimulate innovative thinking and more effectively develop the student’s entrepreneurial potential. In addition, external speakers from the small firm world, government agencies, professional organisations and financial institutions will challenge participants thinking and provide an enhanced network of contacts for future personal and business development opportunities. The opportunity to work with and solve business problems for small and medium firms will further equip students with the best practices in small firm formation and growth and thus better prepare them to engage in entrepreneurial activity either personally or in an established business context.
The completion of a research paper allows the student to deepen their knowledge and expertise in a chosen subject of interest or alternatively, completion of the Strategic Commercialisation Project provides students with the opportunity to transition a business idea and evaluate its commercialization options by developing a two year strategic growth plan.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirement is a 2.2 honours degree (Level 8 – National Qualifications Authority of Ireland ). However, applicants who have a 3rd class honours degree with substantial small business related experience as entrepreneurs or as an employee in a small or medium sized firm may be considered in accordance with the University’s policy on the recognition of prior learning. These candidates will be required to submit a written portfolio of business learning outcomes with accompanying testimonials. An interview may form part of the selection process for all candidates. Where candidates are non native English language speakers, certified demonstrable achievement in a Standard English Language Competency Test will be required.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of either prior successful completion of a degree qualification taught through the medium of English or meet one of the criteria below (no longer than two years prior to application):

Open source sprouted in the technological community as a response to proprietary software owned by corporations.

(2) A certification standard issued by the Open Source Initiative (OSI) that indicates that the source code of a computer program is made available free of charge to the general public. The rationale for this movement is that a larger group of programmers not concerned with proprietary ownership or financial gain will produce a more useful and bug -free product for everyone to use. The concept relies on peer review to find and eliminate bugs in the program code, a process which commercially developed and packaged programs do not utilize. Effective immediately, Veterans who served in a theater of combat operations after November 11, 1998, can complete applications for enrollment in VA health care by telephone without the need for a signed paper application.     This 8-week online course is comprised of eight individual modules developed by experts in palliative care. Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses (CHPN) and Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses (ACHPN) will teach the program.

    Module Eight: Professional Practice Issues/Ethical Concerns/Self Care

    Course work includes activities designed to enhance learning through question/answer sessions, interactive case studies, opportunities for students to apply knowledge in virtual palliative care contexts, and the ability to interact with fellow participants in an online community cohort.

    Participants will be expected to complete one module each week, with the entire program taking a total of eight weeks. The program is asynchronous, which allows participants to complete the course work on their own time with assignments due at the end of each week. Students can expect to spend eight to ten hours a week on the reading and assignments for the course.

    All participants who proficiently complete the course work will receive a certificate of completion from the CSU Institute for Palliative Care at California State University San Marcos.

    Should you opt to get a medical assistant degree you need two years to finish the whole program. It is more comprehensive and in-depth than the diploma program. Expect higher academic demand that goes with the program combined with practical and on-hand training. Just like in the diploma program, this degree program will train you in both administrative and clinical tasks associated with medical assisting. You will also need to take up additional classes as part of the program requirement. After you have completed your degree you can take the medical assisting certification examination to get certified. This is the most expensive of all the three options. The medical assisting degree program is offered in community colleges and private schools as well.

    Each of these educational options will help you get into the field of medical assisting. You have to consider several factors before deciding which road to take. There is the time element – how much time can you devote to studying? Online studies may be an option here. How much money can you spend on the program?     The Advanced Integrated Communication Programme is a part-time post-graduate Course designed and meant specifically for working professionals. The programme focuses on different aspects of the Communication space where design and implementation will reflect success. It looks at the subject of Communications in an integrated manner where different parts of the field are not broken up but need to be consolidated to give the right impact. Effective Communication necessitates that all Marketing Communication elements like the Public Relations Campaigns, Sales Promotions and others must blend into the larger Marketing objective for the Client. This integration will ensure that the organization delivers a ‘One Voice – One Message’ Campaign and manage effective change through Communication.

    The academic programs offered by Mercer County Community College are among the most diversified and comprehensive in the country. Included are transfer programs that prepare students for entry into baccalaureate programs and career programs that prepare students for immediate employment after graduation.

    The terms “transfer” or “career” simply describe the primary objective of the program. Many transfer graduates have been successful in gaining employment upon graduation. Many graduates of career programs have been successful in transferring to four-year colleges, with many of their MCCC credits being accepted.

    In general, both kinds of degree programs require no more than 66 credits for graduation.


    Because Mercer is committed to promoting intellectual development, aesthetic appreciation, and cultural awareness, every program of study includes a general education component. This component, addressed through a variety of courses, focuses on reading analytically, communicating ideas clearly, solving problems, and developing a broad base of knowledge. Students are given the opportunity to develop analytical, synthetic/creative, and evaluative thinking; scientific reasoning; artistic response and expression; historical consciousness; cultural awareness; and sensitivity to the contemporary world.


    Transfer degree (A.A. A.F.A. or A.S.) programs are designed primarily to enable students to enter the third year of baccalaureate study at four-year colleges. The largest student enrollments in transfer degree programs are in humanities and social science, business administration, education, criminal justice, and nursing. Other transfer degree programs range from architecture, communication and visual arts to engineering science and plant science.

    For many students, the transfer experience is made easier by “dual admission” and “program articulation” agreements between Mercer and other colleges.


    Career degree (A.A.S.) programs are designed primarily to prepare graduates for entry-level employment in an occupation which requires both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Mercer has A.A.S. programs as varied as accounting, aviation, chef apprenticeship, electronics, ornamental horticulture, microcomputer systems administration, television, funeral service, and computer graphics.

    Two engineering technology programs function both as transfer degree and career degree programs, with slightly more than half of all graduates transferring to four-year technology programs and others finding employment. Many employed students use career programs to gain advanced positions in their chosen field or to change careers. Some other A.A.S. programs also provide a basis for transfer to four-year colleges; a student may lose credits, however, if he or she transfers to an unrelated program of study.


    Many students enroll at Mercer for purposes other than earning a degree or certificate. The college offers four enrollment categories for such students:

    • Other college — Students take courses at Mercer to fulfill program requirements at another college.
    • Job Related — Students take courses specifically selected to enhance knowledge and skills for current or future employment.
    • Exploratory — Students are undecided about which degree or certificate program they intend to pursue. They may take courses from several program areas to help them select.
    • Personal — Students take courses for other reasons. Advisors at each campus help non-degree students select courses.


    Mercer offers a comprehensive program for students who are learning English as a second language. The multilevel sequence consists of two pre-credit and eight credit courses that emphasize grammar, speech, reading and writing skills. The free ESL placement test, arranged through the ESL Learning Center, should be completed at least two weeks before registration for classes.

    The noncredit preparatory courses are offered through the English Language Institute (ELI) at the James Kerney and West Windsor campuses. Contact ELI at the James Kerney Campus or the ESL Learning Center at the West Windsor Campus for further information.


    The LPN-RN advanced placement option offers licensed practical nurses (LPNs) the opportunity to gain experiential credit for their LPN license and receive credit for Fundamental Concepts of Nursing (NRS 110). Applicants must possess a high school diploma (or equivalent), have graduated from an accredited LPN school, possess a valid New Jersey LPN license and complete all the prerequisite course requirements for the nursing curriculum.

    Admission to the professional phase of the program requires a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a passing score on the HESI Admission Assessment Exam. Six credits are given for Fundamental Concepts of Nursing (NRS 110). The student is then able to enroll in Alterations in Health I (NRS 120), Alterations in Health II (NRS 121), or Concepts of Mental Health Nursing (NRS 123). Students must earn a minimum grade of C in all nursing, science, and mathematics courses to graduate.

    Please note that admission to either of the LPN-RN Advanced Placement program options are on a space available basis only.

    Students who complete the college’s Nursing program earn the Associate in Science (A.S.) degree and eligibility to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses (RNs).


    Cooperative education integrates textbook and classroom learning with work experience. Several academic programs offer cooperative education components. The program affords many advantages to students who are able to earn an income while attending college and earn college credits for their cooperative education experiences. In addition, many graduates find employment easier to obtain if they have had prior work experiences.

    A successful co-op experience requires careful delineation of learning objectives and employer willingness to support them. The college assists students in defining objectives and obtaining co-op positions.

    Description

    The Graduate Certificate program in Renewable Energy recognizes post-bachelor preparation for the engineering and design of modern renewable energy systems such as solar thermal, concentrated solar thermal (CSP), photovoltaic, etc. and grid integration of renewable energy. The goal is to provide a broad background in renewable energy technology that enables a certificate holder to understand the fundamental components of various renewable energy systems. At the same time, greater depth of learning is gained in a focus area for professional preparation and/or further study for an advanced degree.

    Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university and should have a “B” (3.0) average for the course of undergraduate study.

    How Do I Enter the Alternate Route Program?

    The Alternate Route program is a non-traditional teacher preparation program designed for those individuals who HAVE NOT completed a formal teacher preparation program at an accredited college or university, but wish to obtain the necessary training to become a NJ certified teacher.

    Completing the Alternate Route program requires that the following series of steps be taken by a prospective applicant in the order listed:

    1. Apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) through the Office of Licensure and Academic Credentials (OLC).

    **New requirement for Certificate of Eligibility: As of October 31, 2009, applicants for a Certificate of Eligibility for elementary, middle school specialization, N-12 subject area and career and technical education CEs must complete 24 hours of formal instruction prior to issuance of the CE. This requirement also serves as an introduction to the teaching profession for those individuals who are exploring career options. This requirement became effective on September 1, 2009, for candidates seeking a pre-school through grade three CE.

    Remember, it is your responsibility to make sure all necessary documents are received by the OLC so that your file can be reviewed by an examiner.     1. Obtain a Certificate of Eligibility and accept employment.

    A Certificate of Eligibility is issued once a candidate meets all the requirements for the particular endorsement. The Certificate of Eligibility authorizes an individual to seek and accept employment in a New Jersey public school requiring certification. Once all requirements for a certificate have been met, it will be issued by the OLC and mailed to your home address.

  • Enter the Provisional Teacher Program.

    Once you have secured employment, it is the responsibility of the hiring school district to enroll all Novice Teachers in the Provisional Teacher Program. A Provisional teaching certificate is then issued for a period of two years. The PTP is a school-based training and evaluation program provided during the first year of teaching in New Jersey.     Make sure your school district completes this step in the process

  • Meet mentoring and formal instruction requirements .
  • While working as a provisional alternate route teacher you must be mentored by a colleague in the district and be supervised and evaluated by district personnel.
    Concurrently, you must attend formal instruction that is required for the certificate you are seeking. The formal instruction requirements are:

    • Elementary CE. A minimum of 200 hours of formal instruction at a state approved regional training center or alternate route Master of Arts in Teaching Program. Elementary K-5 alternate route candidates hired on or after October 31, 2009, must complete 45 hours of study in teaching language arts/literacy and 45 hours of study in teaching mathematics.
    • Elementary School with Middle School Specialization CE. In addition to completing requirements for the K-5 standard certificate, middle school specialization candidates must complete a course in adolescent psychology.
    • Subject Area CE. A minimum of 200 clock hours of formal instruction at a state approved regional training center or alternate route Master of Arts in Teaching Program. For World Language candidates, a course in methodology must also be completed.
    • Preschool through Grade 3 CE. An approved New Jersey college-university program of 13-17 credits.
    • Teacher of Students with Disabilities CE. An approved New Jersey college/university program of 21-27 credits (and the requirements for the candidate s subject area or grade level certificate).
    • Bilingual/bicultural CE. An approved New Jersey college/university program of 12 credits (and the requirements for the candidate s subject area or grade level certificate).
    • ESL CE: 200 hours of formal instruction at a state approved regional training center and a college/university program of 15-21 credits.

    PUBH.5310 Health Informatics

    The course provides healthcare professionals with a conceptual and practical understanding of information and communication systems, and how they are used. It also addresses the systems analysis, development and implementation challenges in optimizing today’s complex healthcare systems designs to improve both use and clinical outcomes. Students learn the theory, techniques and systems used for transforming clinical data into information useful for decision-making. The current and future role of the health care informatics professional is discussed. 3 credits.

    PUBH.6070 Healthcare Information Systems

    This is the introductory, first-recommended course in health informatics. It provides a broad-ranging overview of the healthcare information systems industry, its history, recent developments and continuing challenges, and a practical understanding of healthcare information systems acquisition and implementation. Topics include meaningful use, EMR, CPOE, and health information exchange. 3 credits.

    PUBH.6320 Health Information System Planning

    A course examining contemporary healthcare information system requirements and focusing on the design, implementation, and modification of these systems. Actual or hypothetical health system related projects are used to support the theoretical framework. 3 credits. Prerequisite: CSCE Graduate Restrictions

    A practical approach to the design, and development of a relational database with an emphasis on healthcare. Analyzing the requirements of the database proceeds to the design of the structure of the relational database, which is then developed in a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). Microsoft Access is used as the RDBMS platform. 3 credits.

    PUBH.6350 Healthcare Project Management

    A graduate level course providing a comprehensive foundation for project management as it applies to healthcare. Students will be introduced to the theory and concepts of project management, and the tools to manage projects with a specific focus on health information technology. 3 credits.

    PUBH.6380 Strategic Planning in Healthcare and HIT (Health Information Technology)

    A graduate-level course introducing healthcare professionals to strategic planning for the information systems organization. Skills learned in this course will enable the student to work effectively with and support the information systems planning effort and assure business alignment. 3 credits.

    PUBH.6390 Electronic Health Record Systems

    The course addresses Electronic Health Records (EHR) integration with patient care flow, clinical decision making and patient engagement, as well as clinical quality reporting. The students also learn core EHR functions. The course uses industry-leading EHR software as a learning tool to demonstrate how electronic health record technologies are used in a clinical setting. 3 credits.

    Certificate Requirements

    Students enrolled in graduate certificate programs through UMass Lowell must complete all courses indicated in the curriculum outline. Students may complete the certificate program at their own pace by registering for and successfully completing one or more courses each semester, depending upon his/her personal time constraints. Students are required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 with no more than one course grade below B to receive the certificate.

    Online courses meet 10 to 14 weeks each semester during the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters (see Academic Calendar for details). Online students generally log into their online course website one or more times per week to retrieve lectures and assignments or to participate in a chat session.     Certificate Completion

    Once you have completed all courses in a graduate certificate program, please complete and submit via mail or fax the Graduate Certificate Clearance Form to the Registrar’s Office.

    Registration

    The Division of Online & Continuing Education offers courses during the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Approximately two months prior to the start of each semester, we post the upcoming semester course schedule on our website. Once you know which course(s) you would like to take, current students can register using SIS Self-Service. while new students, who have not already applied and been accepted into a program, must use the Non-Degree Registration Form.

    You may take courses without being officially enrolled in a certificate or degree program, but you must meet the particular course prerequisites. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Class size is limited. We recommend that you register early to reserve your place in class.

    Applying into an Online Graduate Certificate Program

    UMass Lowell Graduate Certificate Programs provide knowledge and expertise that are vital in today’s rapidly changing workplace. In many cases, graduate certificate courses may be applied toward a master’s degree at UMass Lowell. Most graduate certificates consist of four courses, for a total of 12 graduate credits. This is a great way to earn a graduate-level credential on the way to earning your master’s.

    HOW TO APPLY?

    Application Fee is $50.00 for all applicants. NO Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required for graduate certificate programs. Credits earned from a graduate certificate may be used toward a related graduate degree with the approval of the graduate program coordinator. Students who complete a graduate certificate with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better in a UMass Lowell graduate certificate program may be able to waive the GRE when applying to a related master’s degree. Graduate Certificate Programs must be completed within a five-year period with a minimum 3.0 grade point average and with not more than two courses with a grade below B. Courses completed for one certificate may not be used for other certificates. Once you have completed all of the courses required for your certificate, please complete and submit the Graduate Certificate Clearance Form.

    Graduate Program Admissions Requirements

    Admission to all graduate programs at UMass Lowell is contingent upon successful completion of a bachelor’s degree. In many cases, applicants may register for a course before they have formally applied into the program; however, students requiring financial aid may want to wait until they have been formally accepted into the program to ensure that their course(s) will be covered.     The Difference Between a Certificate of Deposit and a Fixed Deposit

    Savings accounts are designed to you build reserves of money for emergencies or major expenditures, like a new car or refrigerator. You want that money to earn as much interest as possible, but you also want it to be safe, so there is no chance of a loss like there might be with a securities investment. Fixed deposits and Certificates of Deposit, or CDs, give you a chance to save money in a safe place. Unlike traditional savings accounts, however, you will have to wait a set period of time to withdraw from many fixed deposit or CD accounts.

    Advantages

    Certificates of deposit and fixed deposits (also called time deposits) are essentially the same thing. Some banks even refer to fixed deposits as CDs. Both CDs and fixed deposits will pay interest more than passbook savings accounts, where money can be withdrawn at any time.

    Insurance

    CDs and fixed deposits in a bank or savings and loan are guaranteed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. for up to $250,000 per institution. Some institutions offer higher rates on CDs with call options, which give the issuing bank the option to call or terminate the CD before its scheduled maturity. This protects the bank against having a portfolio of high-interest accounts if interest rates suddenly drop.

    Time Periods

    CDs typically are issued for periods of 30 days to five years. Rules vary with issuers, but many CDs hold interest until the certificate matures. Other CD issuers, and most fixed deposits, pay interest at some regular specified period, like every month. The holder has the option of taking that money out or leaving it in the account.

    Non-Bank CDs

    Some CDs are issued by stock brokerages or similar firms and often offer higher interest rates, but lack the federal insurance. Make sure you know the real issuer of the CD to ensure it is insured. If a CD is issued through a broker, find out who really issues it and holds the funds.

    Withdrawals

    Many CDs and some fixed deposits have penalties for early withdrawal of funds, although some banks now offer no penalty CDs. Be sure you check these provisions before you put money into either a CD or fixed deposit. Fixed deposits that are not specifically CDs might have special withdrawal options, so an investor can take out a certain amount within a given time period. For instance, withdrawals might be limited to so many per quarter or to a certain percentage of the total account.

    Variables

    Some institutions now offer variable rate CDs or fixed deposits. These have time restrictions, but the interest rates can vary with changes in general interest rates, either up or down. This can change the value of the investment. With fixed deposits, you know what the rate will be for the duration of the contract.

    Renewals

    Some CDs and fixed deposits have automatic renewals, so they start a new time limit at the original expiration. This can affect the availability of money if a 2-year CD rolls over for another two years automatically. Check renewal provisions and at least make sure there is advance notice before any automatic renewal takes effect or you might find funds unavailable when you want them.

    Essential Information

    Medical billing and coding professionals assign the correct codes to patients’ medical records to assist with billing and reimbursement.     Atlantic Technical College

    Located in Coconut Creek. Atlantic Technical College offers a 10-month medical biller/coder program that prepares students for entry-level employment in medical facilities. Students gain instruction in ICD-CM coding, disease processes, medical terminology, advanced coding and pharmacology. After completing this 1,000-hour program, students receive an Applied Technology Diploma and are eligible to take certification exams for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credentials from AHIMA, as well as the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential from AAPC. In addition they can earn the Florida Ready to Work credential, which is a state certification used to establish employment readiness. Students may also transfer 26 credits towards a health information management associate degree program at Broward College.

    Brevard Community College

    The medical information coder/biller program at Brevard Community College in Cocoa is offered on a full- or part-time basis. The 34-credit program has limited admissions, so interested applicants need to meet all requirements. Students take courses in pharmacology, microcomputer applications, hospital coding and billing, computerized physician office billing and CPT coding principles. A practical work experience provides students with the chance to work in a healthcare setting. Graduates are prepared to obtain national certifications such as CCA and CPC credentials.

    Hillsborough Community College

    Tampa -based Hillsborough Community College (HCC) offers two 34-credit technical certificate programs in medical billing and coding, as well as an office administration associate degree program with a medical office administration specialization that includes coding coursework. Students choose the appropriate technical certificate program depending on whether they wish to focus on medical coding or medical billing. The programs prepare students for positions such as medical coders, medical billers or medical office specialists.

    A clinical practicum provides students with hands-on training in a medical setting. Courses can be transferred to the associate degree program. The college also offers a certificate program in medical office management that includes some instruction in medical billing.

    Students pursuing the degree program must also complete general education courses, as well as a practicum in billing and one in coding. Topping off the 63-credit hour program is an internship in HCC’s Office Systems Technology Department. Graduates of this program are eligible for certification exams and management-level careers in medical offices.

    Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center

    Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center in Miami offers a medical coder/biller program that can be completed in 11 months. The 1,000-hour curriculum consists of four courses, including a 90-hour course in health information technology and three sequential medical coder and biller courses. Students are accepted into this program every six months. Applicants take an assessment test and participate in an interview. Those who have withdrawn from high school can apply if they are at least 16 years of age.

    Manatee Technical Institute

    Manatee Technical Institute in Bradenton offers a medical coder/biller program that can be completed in less than a year if attending full-time. Through classroom studies and practical experiences, students gain the skills for positions in medical facilities and obtain preparation for the CCA certification exam. Students learn about medical terminology, basic data processing, safety and security procedures, healthcare delivery systems and pharmacology. Students completing this program can transfer credits towards a health information management associate degree program also offered at Manatee Tech.

    Pasco-Hernando Community College

    Students completing the medical coder/biller program at Pasco-Hernando Community College in New Port Richey earn applied technology diplomas and can seek work as medical coders and billers. If students attend full-time, they can complete this 33.33-credit program in a year. Also offered at the North Campus in Brooksville and the East Campus in Dade City. this program offers a curriculum of medical courses and clinical education. The program requires that students complete a four-hour AIDs seminar and also have CPR (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) certification. Applicants must have adequate TABE (Tests of Basic Education) scores.

    Pinellas Technical Education Centers

    The Saint Petersburg campus of Pinellas Technical Education Centers offers a medical coder/biller program through distance learning. The 1,000-hour program includes a curriculum of four sequential courses. After taking a health information technology course, students focus on medical coding and billing in three courses. Completing this one-year program qualifies students to sit for the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) credential from NHA and the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) certification from AHIMA. Additional certifications are available to graduates once they obtain work experience.

    Sheridan Technical Center

    The 1,000-hour medical coding/billing program at Sheridan Technical Center in Hollywood offers evening classes Monday through Friday. The program covers the CPT and ICD-9-CM coding systems and introduces students to electronic health records and health informatics. Topics of study include medical terminology, pharmacology, manual and computer coding, disease processes and ethical issues. Students that successfully complete this program earn applied technology diplomas.

    Career Requirements

    According to the U.S. Bureau of Legal Statistics, certification may be a requirement for most employers.     About the Program

    The Graduate Certificate in Mathematics offers graduate level education in mathematics. The program is intended for students who wish to prepare for admission to graduate studies at another institution, or for holders of a Master’s degree in a discipline other than mathematics, who teach mathematics classes at the community college level. The program is also open to high school teachers who wish to obtain the qualification to teach Advanced Placement courses.

    It should be noted that transfer of graduate credits to other institutions is not guaranteed.
    However, all credits of the Graduate Certificate in Mathematics articulate into Indiana University East’s Master of Arts in Teaching, Mathematics (MAT). (The Graduate Certificate requirements are identical to the core requirements of the MAT)

    Format of the Program

    The Graduate Certificate is 100% online. It provides flexibility in scheduling and offers classes in Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.

    Certificate Requirements

    Students must complete 18 credits at the Graduate Level in Mathematics. At least 9 of these credits must be taken from IU East. At the beginning of the program, the Director of Graduate Studies in Mathematics will review your undergraduate transcripts and will decide which classes you will need to take. We realize that the requirements for undergraduate programs vary widely, and we will help you select courses that are one step beyond what you have taken as an undergraduate student.

    Course requirements

    Students must take one course from each of the following five areas:

    It should be noted that MATH-M 215 (Calculus I), MATH-M 216 (Calculus II), MATH-M 311 (Calculus III), MATH-M 393 (Bridge to Abstract Mathematics), MATH-M 303 (Linear Algebra), MATH-M 403 (Modern Algebra), and MATH-M 413 (Intro to Real Analysis) are prerequisites for most of these classes. Unless the student has taken M 393 recently or is familiar with standard proof techniques, he or she will be required to take this class prior to enrolling in any of the graduate-level classes. Some of the mathematics courses are also offered in an online format, which would be open to students of the proposed program.

    The Centre for Palliative Care (CPC) has a state-wide role in palliative care education, with a focus on ensuring education is multidisciplinary and delivered by experts in their field who may be drawn from multiple institutions around Victoria as appropriate. The goals for CPC in regard to palliative care education are to:

    • Increase general understanding and skill in palliative care through education and training of the general health workforce

    Your legal duties

    There are four main areas of law which a property must comply with before it is ready to be let. They have been listed below and I have added my own notes:

    Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1994 (as amended) – all gas appliances must be safe – this is a legal requirement for all rented property and this needs to be done every 12 months.

    The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994 – all electrical appliances must be safe – you have a responsibility to ensure that all electrical appliances, circuits, cables, switches and fuse board is safe and sound. There is no legal requirement to produce any certificate BUT, if the unfortunate did happen, would you be covered? A simple PAT test will ensure that all appliances left in your property are tested for earthing, continuity and soundness. All appliances are labelled. This is one way you could prove that you have taken your responsibilty seriously.

    Smoke Carbon Monoxide Detectors Act 2015 the property should have smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms – I can supply and fit as a non profit service. Please don’t forget to add this service on. The recent changes to the law require landlords to install smoke alarms on every floor of their property, and test them at the start of every tenancy. Landlords also need to install carbon monoxide alarms in high risk rooms such as those where a solid fuel heating system is installed.

    Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 2008 – from 1st October 2008 an Energy Performance Certificate must be made available to a prospective tenant. This is a legal requirement and although does not have an effect on safety, you can still be fined for not having one. An agent will always ask if you have on before selling you their own services.

    Virginia Western Community College – Celebrating 50 Years

    Beginnings.

    Per legislation, effective July 1, 1966, Roanoke Technical Institute (RTI) of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) and the Roanoke Center of the School of General Studies of the University of Virginia merged and became Community College of Roanoke. That summer, under the leadership of President Dr. Travis McKenzie, programs and faculty combined and began fall quarter classes with an enrollment of 1,352 students.

    During the first year of operating, the college was renamed Virginia Western Community College. In 1968, the first true class of Virginia Western students graduated.

    Growth and Expansion

    By 1970, new coursework in nursing, data processing, commercial art and traffic/transportation management were created in addition to existing engineering, business and liberal arts curricula. Student enrollment continued to increase and temporary classrooms were moved to campus. Still new in concept, campus was bustling with activity and students brought in events to form community and shape the school’s identity such as crowning a Miss Virginia Western, dances, and campus art shows outside.

    Increasing Access and Preparing for the Future

    Virginia Western Community College continued to expand access of its services and options for its students and the development of the community in terms of physical growth, workforce support, transfer to four-year colleges and the launch of a program further removing financial barriers to obtaining a college education.

    Similar to a half-century ago, another call-to-action was asked in the 2010s. Fifty years ago a knowledge gap was identified as the United States raced to compete as a technologically advanced nation. This time it is to close the skills gap. In this decade, Governor Terry McAuliffe identified a gap in high-demand jobs skills and called for a significant increase in workforce credentials to be awarded in Virginia in STEM-H (science, technology, electronics, math and healthcare).

    Essential Information

    After a master’s degree is obtained, an LPC can pursue a counseling graduate certificate, which is available in a number of counseling specialties, including mental health and play therapy. These programs typically require completion of an internship, along with roughly 5-6 traditional courses.

    Master’s Degree in Counseling

    A Master of Arts in Counseling prepares students for careers in licensed professional counseling (LPC). These programs emphasize the treatment of emotional and mental disorders. Most master’s degree programs offer students the opportunity to declare a specialization or area of concentration in areas such as expressive arts therapy, Christian counseling or substance abuse counseling. As with job availability, salaries for counselors vary depending on specialization and education level, with rehabilitation counselors earning a median of $34,390 annually as of May 2015. Marriage and family therapists earned a median of $48,600 a year, according to the BLS in 2015.

    Continuing Education Information

    A number of professional organizations offer voluntary certification to LPCs. Most are specific to the area of specialization. Many counselors elect to obtain voluntary certification from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification or the National Board for Certified Counselors. Those who have obtained a master’s degree and licensure as professional counselors may decide to continue their educations. Many colleges and universities offer graduate certificates in counseling specializations.

    If you’re interested in becoming a licensed professional counselor, typically you first need a master’s degree. After graduating from a master’s degree program in counseling, individuals can enroll in a certification program to become an LPC.

    About the Program

    This part-time program would be of interest to people employed in quality engineering functions – quality control and quality assurance, receiving and in-process inspection, and to co-ordinate measuring machine operators, manufacturing technicians and technologists. Topics in quality control and assurance are covered in depth and in a practical and realistic manner. On completion of the program, the graduate will be able to apply the proper techniques and procedures to solve practical manufacturing problems with respect
