It is well known in Europe, particularly in France. Unfortunately, the hotel chain has recently slowed its development by 1%. Despite this, the company continues its expansion to the east, is building a facility in the UAE and China. It’s the only brand that has the largest number of hotels, united by one brand (in the world for more than 4 thousand hotels bear the name Best Western). In 2008 the company opened its first hotel category 5 stars in the Czech capital Prague. Seems like Europe will continue struggling to get more and more service from this hotel chains.

The 6 newest boutique hotel chains you – ll want to try,

The 6 newest boutique hotel chains you’ll want to try

Staying in a full-service hotel can make guests feel as if they’re in a luxury bubble, as just about every need can be fulfilled 24 hours a day. Craving a Kobe beef hamburger at midnight, or a Swedish massage at 10 p.m.? No problem. But midnight cravings aside, some travelers prefer the intimacy of a boutique hotel, and there’s never been a better time to check into one.

Boutique hotels came of age in the 1990s, thanks to game-changing players like Anouska Hempel’s Blakes in London and Ian Schrager’s crop of hotels. After decades of copycat experience, it’s safe to say the lodging industry is ushering in a new era of boutique hotels that go beyond colorful wallpaper and living room lobbies. Major hotel companies have been in the game for years—even Marriott has opened its first three Edition properties in London, Istanbul, and Miami, in partnership with Schrager.

In the past year, other major hotel groups such as IHG and Shangri-La have rolled out new boutique brands and there are plenty of independent players on the scene, such as Salt, The Graduate and Lark. Why the renewed popularity? Many chalk it up to millennials, who crave curated information and every tech convenience as well as stylish surroundings that are Instagram-worthy.

“Boutique hotels speak to how people travel now,” says Rob Blood, the founder and CEO of Lark Hotels. “Millennials want experiences, and not just a room to stay in.” But Blood is quick to point out that it isn’t just millennials driving the interest.

“People really want to connect with their hotel in a different way, and get insider information about the area they’re visiting,” says Blood.

The newest generation of boutique hotels are also offering stylish, design-driven experiences in destinations that aren’t always known for having trendy accommodations. Lark Hotels opened The Attwater in Newport, R.I., in 2012. Old school Newport is better known for its mansions, grand hotels, and quaint B Bs, which often have four poster beds and an overabundance of doilies. Blood says he wanted to offer a colorful, playful option and the result is more One Kings Lane than L.L. Bean., nary any lacework in sight.

Here’s a look at some of the latest boutique hotel brands with properties around the world.

Top 10 Largest Hotel Chains in the World 2014

Santa Claus is coming to town. I know there’s an entire month before that short stout man makes the world roar with joy and laughter but if you want the best of it, its probably too late already. Don’t know why? They say Christmas is best spent in London and New Year in either New York City or Sydney, unless of course you’re the party animal who wants to gamble all night at the Venetian, Las Vegas. So why is it too late? Because if you do not live in London and have somehow managed to procure a visa to the UK, you will be disappointed to know that most of the luxury havens or hotels are booked and overbooked already.

While compiling the list I happened to just search for their properties in London and check for bookings and some had sky-high prices that might just make me afford an entire average hotel and else I almost cursed my luck when I missed onto the last room while I was still reading what they have to offer- oh yeah! The list is pretty long too. So here are the companies that have time and again added the luxury and comfort element to your even average vacations. No matter how tired you are, if you return to Westin Heavenly Bed as the Starwood Group has chosen to name it, you’d be asleep and in dreams in a matter of seconds. They are that good, the bad part is they charge for it.

Anyways. Here are 10 hotel chains you must try to experience at least once in your lifetime, because they are the largest hotel chains that the world has right now. And I bet if you’d count by revenue then a number of casino resorts would out-power entire chains but the presence worldwide we judge by number of properties and number of rooms it houses.

Disclaimer: All figures and Rankings are based on data and statistics as on 1 st January 2014. There is no reliable data on any new properties which might have sprung up in 2014. The Hotels Association New data will be compiled only in January 2015

10. Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group

Number of Properties: 1079

Number of rooms: 168927

Hotel chains

Remember all the Radisson Blu s’ and Radisson Red s’ and Park inn and Country Inn too? No, shocking as it might be they are not owned by different chains or are competitors, in fact all the money you’ve been spending on these sub-chains and more (In all seven) has only made Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group deliver a yearly revenue of $7.5 Billion. Now I wish the owners had an heir and I knew him well. Anyways, they have been constantly growing in terms of World Class Hospitality and ensuring that each of their property is better than the last.

9. Home Inns

Number of Properties: 2180

Number of rooms: 256555

Hotel chains

So they don’t promise you luxury for that was never their claim to fame. You’d be surprised to know that they’ve had a steep growth graph for they’ve only grown since their establishment in 2002. They’ve taken pride in being one of the most widespread economy hotels in the World and mostly in China where they also took over another economy hotel chain known as Motel 168. SO now you know on who to rely on while planning a vacation on a budget?

8. Best Western

Number of Properties: 4046

Number of rooms: 314318

Hotel chains

So while their tagline says that they’re the World’s largest hotel family, I stand by it that they’ve been most considerate while grading their properties as Best Western, Best Western Plus and Best Western Premier. It is undoubtedly the fastest growing hotel chains in Middle East and Asia. So you now know which properties would be most inviting to you and at affordable prices too. They are in no sense inexpensive but they won’t burn a hole in your pocket.

7. Starwood Hotels and Resorts

Number of Properties: 1161

Number of rooms: 339243

Hotel chains

The more I say is less, for its only for the grandeur they believe their properties should have that they rest so low (rather so high) in the list. Each of their property averages at around 300 rooms, now that is humungous. They’ve been catering manking with nine hotel brands each better than the other. Don’t believe me? They’ve got Four Points, Element, Aloft, Sheraton, Westin, Le Meridien, W Hotels, The Luxury collection and also St. Regis. So it’s like even if the properties are less, the delivering of promises is more and beyond. And as for the staff, they are most careful recruiters and there staff would always leave you smiling.

6. Accor

Number of Properties: 3576

Number of rooms: 461719

Hotel chains

So they’ve got all the Sofitels’ and Novotels’, the Ibis and the Mercure and they’ll never ever leave you disappointed. Their hotels are not ultimate luxury places where you’d be treated like Royalty but definitely places you’d be most comfortable returning to after a long day. They happen to be one of the most popular chains for business groups and Corporate Employees who tend to travel a lot. No wonder they get so productive at their work then

5. Choice Hotels International

Number of Properties: 6303

Number of rooms: 602663

Hotel chains

The Comfort Inn, The Quality, The Sleep Inn and the Clarion are a few of their properties I’m sure you’ve heard of. There properties make you feel home alongside making you experience an almost luxurious stay you’d never regret spending your vacations for. They’ve got a huge number of tiny to normally sized properties which makes them easy to spot at almost any tourist destination you visit.

4. Wyndham Hotel Group

Number of Properties: 7485

Number of rooms: 645423

Hotel chains

So the Wyndham Grand you’ve been raving about is their’s and Wyndham Garden Hotels too. Even TRYP and Wingate and Hawthorn and all those Ramada Properties you’ve booked now and then. Knights Inn and Travelodge happen to be their busiest properties for their easy access and affordability. The Wyndham Hotel Group has one of the best guest loyalty programs, you know why you must book them now?

3. Marriot International

Number of Properties: 3783

Number of rooms: 653719

Hotel chains

With the number of Properties they have under development I won’t be surprised to see them top the list next year or maybe the next, they’ve made their presence felt in over 72 countries and are perhaps most about luxury with The Ritz Carlton, Bvlgari Hotels and JW Marriotts as their brands, also they have courtyard, Fairfield, Renaissance, Autograph Collection and more and more. Over 17 Brands and one to cater almost all budgets. Never miss a chance to stay at Ritz Carlton, Montreal. I mean NEVER EVER.

2. Hilton worldwide

Number of Properties: 4115

Number of rooms: 678630

Hotel chains

So all those who believe if Paris Hilton could make it why can’t we would be rather pacified to know she’s got it as legacy. Legacy like that which you give your hands and legs and heart for…Heart quite literally. Hilton Hotels, Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, Curio, Canopy, Double Tree, Embassy- it’s all in the legacy. They’re perhaps one hotel chain that gives you best bargains all year round and why not? They’ve got something to offer to each one of us.

1. IHG- Intercontinental Hotels Group

Number of Properties: 4697

Number of rooms: 686873

Hotel chains

How can they not top the list, I mean that is simply not possible. You ask why? Because the Intercontinental Hotel Group is responsible for giving us the most magnificient Venetian- Not the Venetian is heaven and nothing short, believe me, Visit the Macau one if not Las Vegas. Pretty Please? All the Crowne Plaza Hotels- they’re pretty awesome too, but make sure if there’s one Crowne Plaza property that you ought to visit, it is The Avenue Crowne Plaza Chicago Magnificient Mile. There’s no regret involved there, even at escalated rates. Other hotel brands handled by the IHG include Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn hotels and resorts, Candlewood hotels, Staybridge Suites to name a few. But Venetian is Venetian and never miss it for anything, Not even Disney Hollywood resort, I guarantee it is that good. Really now, so visit these properties and be sure that your money spent is money well used.

Hotel chains

I wondered if anyone could give me advice on hotel chains in Japan e.g. how they equate to UK hotels? i.e. in UK if i want cheap and basic I go for travelodge. If i want cheap and a little nicer Premier Inn, if I m splashing out Hyatt or Hilton generally. Are there equivalents? Especially at the lower end of the market? Something cheap but pretty consistent, clean and modern with no added fancy extras?

Hotel chains

There are many low end but clean small room business hotel chains throughout Japan. The largest is Toyoko inn, then Superhotel, APA hotel(not recommended), Comfort Hotel, etc. Free bf, thin bath robe and other amenities are included on the first two chains. I am not sure about others. Only drawback is the tiny bathroom. Hotel direct booking gives benefit like a free stay, discount, etc. But compare with rates in booking.com, etc..for these and other more step ups.

Hotel chains

Other chains are Hokke Club (the cheap end), Richmond (cheap but a step up), Daiwa Roynet and Dormy Inn (still moderately priced but better rooms and amenities).

Hotel chains

For note, APA are fine as business hotels go, they are not recommended because the company founder and majority owner, Toshio Motoya, is a notorious right-wing writer and activist. And when I say right-wing this means Holocaust-denial-level right-wing — for example, he went on record stating that in his belief the Nanking Massacre was a hoax, and he uses the hotels revenue to finance his political activity. This is often unknown outside of Japan, but in the country the people not supporting his political views (quite a majority of the population) tend to stay away from his hotels.

As everyone says, for simple but reliable hotels there are plenty of so called business hotels : https:/…e2025_business_hotels.html

Richmond, JR Kyushu, Daiwa Roynet and Tokyu Stay are above average (business/budget) chains IMO. Tokyu Stay mostly has hotels in and around Tokyo, but they are about to open an apartment hotel in Kyoto. The other ones can be found nation-wide. Dormy Inn is nice in that many (not all) of their hotels have a large common bath area, sometimes with onsen (hot spring) water.

Pet friendly hotel chains

When it comes to booking hotels, pet friendly often translates to dog friendly, but there are several hotel chains that welcome feline guests as well! We ve heard from pet travelers that it s challenging to find cat friendly hotels, so we re happy to provide you with a list of hotel chains that we know will welcome you and your feline travel companion.

The Affinia hotel chain consists of five properties in New York and one in Washington, D.C., and all are delighted to have your cat as a guest! One cat is allowed per room and, for a $50 pet fee, he or she will be pampered with food and water bowls, a bed, a toy, and a door hanger to alert the hotel staff that your pet is inside. The program also includes a $10 donation to the Humane Society what a nice touch!

The Drury Inn hotel chain, with 125 locations across the country, is a well-kept pet friendly secret. Located in 20 states throughout the south and mid-west, they bring southern hospitality to the mid-scale hotel experience, and their warm welcome extends to pets – cats are welcome to join you for a $10 per day fee. Two pets are allowed per room and are not to be left alone for more than 30 minutes.

Pet friendly hotel chains

Hilton Hotels

With more than 250 hotels across the US and Canada, you ll find a Hilton in nearly every largish city in North America. Each property in the Hilton hotel chain sets it s own pet policy, but most allow one cat for an additional fee ranging between $35 and $75 dollars. Amenities also very by property and may include food and water bowls and a pet bed.

Kimpton Hotels

The Kimpton hotel chain s 60 properties lead the pack in the pet friendly movement with their HosPETality Unleashed program. They welcome all pets – with no limit on the number, species, weight, or breed – and charge no additional fees or deposits. They go the extra mile to be sure your pets enjoy their stay as much as you do with special amenities like comfy pet beds and treats at check in.

Just yesterday we learned that Kimpton Hotels has been purchased by the InterContinental Hotels Group, but Kimpton reached out on Twitter to let us know that their pet policies will not be affected by the acquisition. Whew!

Pet friendly hotel chains

La Quinta Hotels

With more than 800 locations, you’re never far from a pet friendly La Quinta hotel! Strategically located along major highways, as well as in towns and cities, this chain is a solid choice when looking for an affordable and reliably pleasant hotel. There are a few (less than 10) La Quinta properties that require a pet fee, but the vast majority welcome up to two cats with no additional charges. As always, it s best to confirm the individual hotel’s pet policy before making your reservation to avoid surprises.

Loews Hotels

The Loews hotel chain definitely puts their best paw forward when it comes to pet amenities at their 21 properties! For an additional fee of $50 per night, up to two feline guests are welcome per room and receive pet bowls, an id tag, and treats. Many locations also offer special services like pet sitting, and special selections on the room service menu such as roasted salmon and roasted chicken. Beds, leashes, and litter boxes are available for use during your stay, and the hotel staff is happy to provide details for local pet resources.

Pet friendly hotel chains

Motel 6

Motel 6 is the largest owned and operated motel chain in the country with more than 1,100 properties throughout the US and Canada. Their rooms are among the most affordable you’ll find, and every location welcomes cats. Motel 6 imposes no restrictions on size or number of pets, and does not charge additional fees. (The Studio 6 branded hotels charge a $10 per night pet fee, up to a maximum of $50.) You won t find any pet amenities here, but the price is right!

Red Roof Inns

Red Roof Inns provide pet friendly accommodations at economical prices in 36 states across the country. With 350 locations, you ll find them along major highways and right downtown in some of our favorite cities. One cat is is welcome to accompany you, with no additional fees, and may not be left unattended in the room.

Pet friendly hotel chains

W Hotels

There are 27 feline-friendly W Hotel locations throughout the US and Canda, which is a member of Starwood hotel family. Guests traveling with pets are charged an additional $25 per day, plus a $100 non-refundable cleaning fee. The amenities here are over the top with a pet welcome kit, toy, treats, pet tag, bed, food and water bowls, door sign, turndown treat, litter boxes, first aid kit.

We hope we ve made finding accommodations for your next cat friendly trip a little easier. If you re still deciding where to stay, you might also want to check out our list of hotel chains where pets stay free!

Hotel chains uk

Hotel chains uk

So they don’t promise you luxury for that was never their claim to fame. You’d be surprised to know that they’ve had a steep growth graph for they’ve only grown since their establishment in 2002. They’ve taken pride in being one of the most widespread economy hotels in the World and mostly in China where they also took over another economy hotel chain known as Motel 168. SO now you know on who to rely on while planning a vacation on a budget?

8. Best Western

Number of Properties: 4046

Number of rooms: 314318

Hotel chains uk

So while their tagline says that they’re the World’s largest hotel family, I stand by it that they’ve been most considerate while grading their properties as Best Western, Best Western Plus and Best Western Premier. It is undoubtedly the fastest growing hotel chains in Middle East and Asia. So you now know which properties would be most inviting to you and at affordable prices too. They are in no sense inexpensive but they won’t burn a hole in your pocket.

7. Starwood Hotels and Resorts

Number of Properties: 1161

Number of rooms: 339243

Hotel chains uk

Hotel chains uk

So they’ve got all the Sofitels’ and Novotels’, the Ibis and the Mercure and they’ll never ever leave you disappointed. Their hotels are not ultimate luxury places where you’d be treated like Royalty but definitely places you’d be most comfortable returning to after a long day. They happen to be one of the most popular chains for business groups and Corporate Employees who tend to travel a lot. No wonder they get so productive at their work then

5. Choice Hotels International

Number of Properties: 6303

Number of rooms: 602663

Hotel chains uk

The Comfort Inn, The Quality, The Sleep Inn and the Clarion are a few of their properties I’m sure you’ve heard of. There properties make you feel home alongside making you experience an almost luxurious stay you’d never regret spending your vacations for. They’ve got a huge number of tiny to normally sized properties which makes them easy to spot at almost any tourist destination you visit.

4. Wyndham Hotel Group

Number of Properties: 7485

Number of rooms: 645423

Hotel chains uk

So the Wyndham Grand you’ve been raving about is their’s and Wyndham Garden Hotels too. Even TRYP and Wingate and Hawthorn and all those Ramada Properties you’ve booked now and then. Knights Inn and Travelodge happen to be their busiest properties for their easy access and affordability. The Wyndham Hotel Group has one of the best guest loyalty programs, you know why you must book them now?

3. Marriot International

Number of Properties: 3783

Number of rooms: 653719

Hotel chains uk

Hotel chains uk

Hotel chains uk

Britain’s best and worst hotel chains named in Which? poll

The survey of Which? readers, published today, saw hotel firms judged in nine categories, including cleanliness, customer service, food, and value for money.

Sofitel, the luxury arm of Novotel and the costliest chain to feature in the poll – with rooms prices at £144 a night, on average – took top honours. It scored five stars in seven categories for a total score of 83 per cent.

Other firms in the top five were Premier Inn with 82 per cent, Warner Leisure Hotels with 80 per cent, Hampton by Hilton with 78 per cent and Q Hotels, also with 78 per cent.

Premier Inn recently announced plans to roll-out a series of high-tech “hub” hotels . with the first due to open in Covent Garden next month.

Britannia Hotels propped up the table for the second year running, scoring just one star in five categories – bedrooms, bathrooms, cleanliness, communal areas and “description matching reality”.

Other poorly performing chains were Old English Inns/Hotels with 50 per cent, Principal Hayley Hotel with 55 per cent, and De Vere Hotels with 58 per cent.

Travelodge, one of Britain’s biggest hotel chains, also suffered, scoring 60 per cent, despite recently implementing a £57m overhaul of its rooms.

The cheapest hotel chain – Ibis, where rooms cost £32, on average – came 13th, out of 29.

Britain’s ‘worst’ hotel chains named

Britannia Hotels has been named the worst hotel chain in Britain by the readers of Which? Travel, the consumer magazine.

The chain, which has 44 hotels in the UK, scored just 36 per cent in an online satisfaction survey conducted by readers of the magazine.

Britannia Hotels promotes itself as providing “affordable accommodation” but respondents described the chain’s hotel rooms as “shabby” and “run-down”.

The chain was rated across six categories and scored one star out of five, the lowest mark, for cleanliness, room fixtures and value for money.

Britannia guests were also surprised to find that a room with a window was £10 extra.

The second worst hotel chain was deemed to be Travelodge, which has 500 properties in the UK.

Travelodge received an overall customer score of 50 per cent but cleanliness, room fixtures and comfort received just two stars, while breakfast was awarded a dismal one star out of five by respondents.

Telegraph Travel has reviewed five Travelodge hotels in recent years, with the properties each receiving a rating of five or six out of ten.

We’ve visited just one Brittania Hotel: the Europa Gatwick, back in 2008. Fiona Duncan, our hotel reviewer, was not impressed.

A total of 8,267 Which? readers, who were also members of the magazine’s online community, took part in the survey.

The best-rated hotel chain was Q Hotels, which has 21 properties and 2,900 bedrooms in the UK.

Q Hotels, which offers “four star luxury” across the UK, scored 78 per cent overall and was awarded five stars out of five for cleanliness and room fixtures, but an average of three stars for value for money.

Other hotel chains to top the list include Radisson Blu Edwardian, which has more than 400 bedrooms in the UK across 14 hotels, achieved an overall score of 77 per cent and was the second highest rated hotel.

Premier Inn, with more than 650 hotels in the UK and 52,000 bedrooms, was the largest chain to feature and scored 76 per cent overall.

The UK’s worst hotel chains (overall customer score)

Britannia Hotels – 36 per cent
Travelodge – 50 per cent
Ramada (excluding Encore) – 51 per cent
PH Hotels (Principal Hayley Hotels) – 51 per cent
De Vere Village – 51 per cent
Shearings Hotels – 52 per cent
Copthorne – 54 per cent

Britannia guests were also surprised to find that a room with a window was £10 extra.

UK Hotel Chains For Cheap Rooms in the UK

By Ferne Arfin. United Kingdom Travel Expert

Ferne Arfin, your Guide to UK Travel, is an American abroad. A freelance writer, guidebook author and native New Yorker, she has lived in the UK for many years. A writer all her life, Ferne started out as a newspaper journalist in Boston. She wrote corporate literature, advertising copy and public relations before seeing the light and turning her attention to full time journalism and travel writing. Now, with her constant traveling companion Wallace – a very discerning and well traveled West Highland Terrier – she spends as much time as she can discovering new places around the UK.

Updated April 28, 2016.

If you are willing to forego charm for reliability, it is not hard to find cheap, clean and decent rooms in the UK. International and UK budget hotel chains specialize them. Sure, there may be a kind of global sameness about such rooms but, looked at realistically, there are times when this kind of cheap lodging is exactly what is called for.

Cheap Rooms – When Price Trumps Charm

Say you re touring in England, Scotland or Wales.

Chances are you ll want to see historic sights, castles, wonderful scenery and museums. You ll be sampling typical pubs, the best of the arts and music scenes, great ethnic food, cool shopping, buzzing cities and picturesque towns. On a trip like that, does the décor of your hotel room really matter all that much? A room that s warm and dry, has clean bedlinens, reliable hot and cold running water in a clean bathroom and someplace to make a phone call and have a coffee or a light breakfast will probably do.

International Hotel Chains That Have it Down to a Science

The big international and UK hotel chains and groups have minimum standards and regular inspections. Use them and you can probably save enough for one or two nights splurging on the quaint and charming or the luxe boutique. These international and UK hotel chains, can be relied upon to provide good, basic, cheap accommodation around England, Scotland and Wales:

  • Best Western The world s largest hotel group, with 4,200 hotels, has a variety of price ranges, including lots of good value rooms in the UK. The nice thing about this chain is, as they are an association of hotel owners and small hotel groups, there s a chance of some individual, independent style.

  • Choice Hotels About 60 hotels and motels, operating under the names Comfort Hotels, Comfort Inns, Quanity Hotels and Quality Inns, and clustered around major cities, airports and business centers.
  • Days Hotels Run by the company that operate Days Inns in the USA – a classic budget basic.
  • Easy Hotels 6, basic London hotels owned by Stelios, the charismatic founder of EasyJet, plus hotels in Luton, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Rooms cost under £100 – a bargain in central London. Fine if you don t mind the color orange.
  • Ibis Budget (formerly Etap hotels) Part of the French-owned Accor group, this budget chain is well established in Europe and has a few units in the UK. It specialises in rooms for three with shower, toilet, satellite TV and good value breakfast buffet.
  • Holiday Inn Express Pretty standard décor but room rates include continental breakfast and start well under £50 per room in parts of the UK.
  • Ibis Hotels Another member of the French owned Accor Group, these are good value and, often, city center.
  • Jurys Inn This Irish-owned chain, with minimalist style, has hotels in destination cities in the UK and Ireland.
  • Premier Travel Inn The UK s largest hotel chain with 500 locations.
  • Travelodge A very large, very stripped down UK chain with some, special offer family rooms as low as £19 per room.
