    In the last two decades, the structures of many peptide hormones have been elucidated and other peptide hormones have been obtained in pure form. However, there are presently no accepted guidelines for nomenclature in this field. Therefore, the IUPAC-IUB Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature (CBN) appointed a subcommittee consisting of R. A. Acher, R. A. Boissonnas, H. B. F. Dixon, R. Guillemin, P. Karlson (Convenor), H. Rasmussen, J. Rudinger, and N. A. Yudayev to discuss the question of the nomenclature of peptide hormones and to report to CBN. The International Union of Physiological Sciences nominated, as consultants to the subcommittee, A. Brodish, S. M. McCann, and F. Ulrich. The present Recommendations are based on the report of this subcommittee.

    1. General Principles

    Naturally occurring oligo- and polypeptides are generally referred to by trivial names; their systematic names are so cumbersome that they are of little use. Most of the peptide hormones already have well established trivial names indicating either natural source (e.g. insulin) or physiological action (e.g. relaxin, prolactin). However, some of the trivial names are so long that these hormones are known mainly by abbreviations (e.g. FSH for follicle-stimulating hormone). This is unfortunate, and it was therefore considered advisable to create suitable names for those peptide hormones not already having well established short trivial names. Three principles have been observed:

    (a) new names for hormones of the adenohypophysis bear the ending “-tropin”;

    (b) hypothalamic releasing factors (hormones) bear the ending “-liberin”;

    (c) hypothalamic release-inhibiting factors (hormones) bear the ending “-statin” (see below).

    2. Trivial Names

    The trivial names proposed for peptide hormones are given in the “Appendix.” Abbreviations of the new names are not proposed, and the use of currently fashionable abbreviations is discouraged.

    3. Species Designation

    Since peptide hormones show species variation in their amino-acid sequence, their names are essentially “generic names”, and are insufficient to specify a single chemical compound. It is therefore recommended that authors add to the name of each hormone the species from which the hormone was isolated, or at least indicate the biological source(s) where appropriate in each paper.

    4. Special Groups of Hormones

    (a) Hypothalamic Factors (Hormones) – The hypothalamic “releasing factors” or “releasing hormones” have no well established trivial names. It is recommended that the trivial names given in the “Appendix” be used for the releasing factors (hormones). They are based on the ending “-liberin” added to the prefix of the pituitary hormone released by the factor. Thus, “thyroliberin” indicates the hypothalamic peptide stimulating the release (and perhaps also the biosynthesis) of thyrotropin, the corresponding tropic hormone, from the pituitary gland. (Note that the ending “-tropin” is no longer retained in the name; it is implied in the definition of “-liberin”.)

    The names of those factors inhibiting the release (and perhaps the synthesis) of pituitary hormones are formed in a similar way with the suffix “-statin. “

    (b) Pituitary Hormones – Most of the hormones ofthe adenohypophysis have acceptable trivial names ending in -tropin. The committee has created the missing names for follicle-stimulating hormone, “follitropin,” and for luteinizing hormone, “lutropin.” It is recommended that pituitary hormones discovered in the future also be named with the ending -tropin, This suffix should be restricted to pituitary and similar hormones and should not be used for, e.g. crustacean hormones acting on pigment cells.

    Note The committee has re-evaluated the arguments for and against the suffix “-trophin,” still used by many anatomists and physiologists. Since the bioassay systems are based mostly on effects other than the trophic one, it was decided to recommend “-tropin” for general usage in biochemistry.

    Some placental hormones are physiologically very similar to pituitary hormones. They are named accordingly with the prefix “chorio-“, e.g. choriogonadotropin for chorionic gonadotropin.

    (c) Invertebrate Peptide Hormones -Though some of the invertebrate peptide hormones have been isolated in pure form and their amino-acid compositions have been determined, the field has not yet developed to a stage where a list of names seems warranted.

    It is, however, recommended that the suffixes defined above for hypothalamic and pituitary hormones not be used in a different sense in invertebrates. Thus, a crustacean color change hormone acting on, e.g. erythrophores, should not be named “erythrotropin,” a hormone causing release of eggs and/or sperm in sea urchins should not be called “gametoliberin.”

    Appendix. List of Peptide Hormonesa

    a For convenience, some biologically active peptides that may not fulfill all criteria of a hormone are included.

    b Abbreviations, old or new, are not recommended; they are given here for identification purposes only.

    c This name indicates a hypothalamic substance releasing gonadotropin. It may also be used for the decapeptide isolated from pig hypothalami and known as luteinizing hormone/follicle-stimulatinghormone releasing factor, abbreviated LH/FSH-RF, b since the peptide induces the release of both lutropin and follitropin in constant proportions and thus carries the activity of both luliberin and folliberin (see also Footnote e ).

    d The chorionic gonadotropins have in most species (including man) the action of both follitropin and lutropin and are therefore termed “gonadotropins.”

    e Gonadotropin is to be used for hormones having the activity of both follitropin and lutropin, like the gonadotropins of cold-blooded vertebrates. It may also be used for impure preparations containing lutropin and follitropin.

    f In elasmobranch fishes.

    h Two peptides have been sequenced and designated a -melanotropin and b -melanotropin.

    i In birds and reptiles.

    j The name of this hormone is derived from Greek wkntokos (OKYTOKOS = fast birth, prompt delivery), not from the Greek oxns (oxys = acid; fast). The spelling ocytocin should therefore be preferred; moreover, it avoids confusion with oxy, meaning “related to oxygen.” However, oxytocin is in wide use, especially in the English language. Therefore, both spellings are listed as optional.

    k Most work has been done on the human hormone, known as Human Menopausal Gonadotropin (HMG); it is a pituitary hormone, chemically changed during passage through the kidney. Due to its occurrence in urine, it has been termed “urogonadotropin.”

    l Parathyrin is a new name suggested here. The synonym Parathormone is a proprietary name.

    m The name “somatomedin” was suggested by a group working in the field (Nature235. 107 (1972)).

    n A polypeptide from the thymus. The name proposed was suggested in a letter to Nature (249. 863 (1974)) to avoid confusion with the earlier “thymine” from nucleic acids. “Thymin” should be abandoned.

    What is a ‘Private Label Credit Card’

    A private label credit card is a store-branded credit card that can only be used at that store. A private-label credit card is a type of revolving credit plan managed by a bank or commercial finance company for either retail or wholesale manufacturers, such as department and specialty stores. Private label credit cards do not carry a credit card logo such as Visa or Mastercard and cannot be used with other merchants.

    The private label credit program allows retailers to offer more lenient and extended terms to customers than they could otherwise. Many stores offer private label credit cards to their customers to encourage them to spend more by offering the convenience of a credit card and deferred payment. In addition, when a customer makes a purchase with a private label credit card, they will usually earn loyalty rewards, such as a discount on a future purchase. In this way, a private label credit card can encourage repeat business and customer loyalty. Private label cards can also make shopping more convenient for customers through features such as receiptless returns.

    BREAKING DOWN ‘Private Label Credit Card’

    If a third party. such as a bank, manages a private-label credit program for a retailer or manufacturer, it will perform several functions. These include the issuance of cards, funding of credit and the collection of payments from customers. The criteria for credit are jointly established by the service provider and the retailer.

    Private label credit cards are similar to other credit cards in that they charge interest if you carry a balance, charge a fee if your payment is late and have a grace period if you don’t carry a balance. They are also similar to other credit cards in that while private label credit cards do not carry a payment processor’s logo, they are still backed by a payment processor such as Visa. The payment processor makes it easy for stores to offer private label credit cards by offering cards that work with the store’s existing terminals and point-of-sale equipment.

    Target is one of many retailers that offers a private label credit card as of 2014.     Debit Credit Card Skimming Fraud How to Avoid Card Skimming Devices

    I decided to listen to the voice message before we went in for the show. As I heard the words your bank account has suspicious activity on it, I got a little worried but figured Bank of America simply didn t like one of the transactions we had made earlier. So, I quickly took a look at our checking account transactions on the Bank of America iPhone app. That s when my stomach shot up into my throat and my heart started racing. I saw two $1,000 deductions from our account for a shady sounding website that we definitely didn t buy anything from. Our bank account had been compromised, and we were devastated.

    The bank told us that the transactions were made using my debit card number. However, the strange thing is that my debit card number was never lost or stolen. Luckily, Bank of America was great about the whole situation and, since you are never liable for unauthorized transactions in your bank account. the money was put back in our account within three business days.

    No one ever confirmed this, but given the number of incidences in Orlando over the past year, I am convinced that my debit card was skimmed. I can t pinpoint where exactly it happened, but I have no other explanation since we rarely buy things online, and no websites have our debit card number stored.

    How Card Skimming Happens

    Here are four of the most likely ways that your credit or debit card can be skimmed:

    1. ATMs An ATM skimming device is used and fits over the real ATM card reader slot. ATM users do not know their information is being intercepted as their card is inserted into the false reader.
    2. Gasoline Pumps This skimming device is installed inside a gas pump in minutes and is not visible to users. A gas pump key can fit pump housings in multiple stations, allowing for quick and easy access. I think this could have been where my card was skimmed. I get gas in a lot of tourist areas around Orlando where criminals are more likely to go after the pumps.
    3. Handheld Devices Someone can take your credit card and quickly record the information with a swipe on these small devices. There were two different cases in Orlando recently of waitresses at restaurants swiping cards with these handheld machines. They were being paid a nominal, flat fee for every card they recorded by a middle man who was then selling them on the black market for big money. Think about it, when you send your credit or debit card off with a restaurant server, it s one of the only times your card is out of your sight and not in your possession.
    4. Keystroke Loggers This device can be attached to public-use computers, like those found at the library, or credit card point-of-sale devices to record passwords and other personal data. They can also be downloaded onto your computer as malicious spyware.

    Maybe I am being a little paranoid. I could never actually confirm that my card was skimmed. However, through researching credit card skimming in Orlando, I found quite a few instances of people caught targeting areas near where I live and work.

    How to Avoid Skimming Fraud

    I am convinced that this crime is a real threat. If you agree, here are some tips on how to avoid being a victim of credit card skimming and, ultimately, identity theft and financial fraud.

    • Go to the Bank Window If you re going to a bank during office hours, go into the bank and make a withdrawal, or drive up to the teller window rather than taking money out at the ATM.
    • Get Cash Back Take advantage of the ability to get cash back at a grocery store instead of taking money out at an ATM.
    • Pay Inside for Gas Paying for gas at the pump is convenient, but not convenient enough to risk your credit card information. Opt to pay inside rather than using the machine outside. It ll only take a couple more minutes.
    • Pay Cash Make an effort to carry cash and use it more often at gas stations and restaurants .
    • Ask for the Manager Don t be shy about requesting that your credit or debit card be run by a manager at a restaurant. Protecting your personal financial information is far too important to worry about offending people.
    • Keep Shopping and Banking on Your Private Computer Avoid doing any online shopping or banking on public use computers. If you ever do have to use a public computer for these transactions, clear the cache, cookies, and history afterward, just to be safe.

    Final Thought

    Credit card skimming can be devastating to your personal finances. I was lucky that my bank notified me quickly and was willing to work with me to counter the false charges to my card. I m sure others have lost far more to this latest trend in credit card fraud and identity theft. Make sure that you are doing everything in your power to protect yourself.

    Which Hospice companies are Good to work for?

    Maybe it’s already been mentioned but it might be good to look at nonprofit hospice companies. They tend to be less focused on money and have more services for the patient/family.

    That’s not always the case, though. Where I live, the not for profit hospice is more concerned with their public image than pt. care. I work for a for profit hospice and our administration is very concerned with pt. care. heartbeat

    I don’t know that I totally agree with the profit vs non-profit and that is why I did not mention it in my last post. For-profit companies will tell you that the only difference between them and NFP companies is that the NFP companies do not have to pay taxes into the community. We have 7 competing hospices in the area that I am no more impressed by the NFP agencies than the FP’s. There is an older, national NFP here in the area and I interviewed with them at one time–wages were 80% of the market average here in the area and the benefits were horrible(the excuse was they were a NFP and couldn’t afford to pay anymore)–this company is also known for working their nursing staff into the ground (they are leaving in droves right now) and not accepting the expensive patients . They also have an inpatient unit that several in the community feel is misused to substitute for continuous care and our company has taken several of their patients that have wanted to stay at home for end of life care as they were informed that their patients are typically transferred to their inpatient center to die). As I have said, there are good and bad FP ‘s and NFP’s. If I would suggest anything to look at, it would be wheter a company is locally owned or nationally owned. Nationally owned companies are paying an entire staff at the top of the chain and the money has to come form somewhere (sometimes shows up in higher nursing caseloads or poor patient suppiles). Not that all of them are bad–some locally owned companies are started by people with intentions other than patient care. The important thing is to ask the right questions and take your time selecting the right company. I would continue to insist that your best resources are speaking with current and previous employees of the company you are considering working for. I say this because once you are trained and in a position, it becomes harder to leave if you find out the company misrepresented itself as most of this that are in this profession struggle with knowing that when we leave, there will be even less people to care for the patients.

    I work for a nonprofit, part of a larger religious nonprofit. The downside is that being under senior services-which is traditionally low paid, I think we are way underpaid. Hospice should be advanced home health and pay for the years of general nursing experience you come with.

    But the plus is that the focus is on compassionate care, for the most part. We would not turn down a patient with financial needs, we have resources to help those in dire need of basic comforts. Our nurses are not pushed to meet financial goals. Now, they are overworked because we are too short staffed, too short staffed because we are not paid well enough to attract the experience we need, but there are measures being taken to address those things. At least I feel that there is interest in improving our org and fundamentally many good people. We are currently changing leadership and I am hoping that they hire an outsider with strong leadership skills to both corral some of the internal management issues and better advocate for us.

    Yes Yes Yes. People, there is a nursing shortage! Good help is hard to find. Believe me when I tell you that life is too short to be working in a position or job that you don’t enjoy. If you are true of heart and want to consider hospice nursing a profession, take the time to investigate the company and the position–don’t be afraid to ask questions–you have the right to get up every day to go into a postion that is rewarding (not that some days won’t be difficult) and just as much right to be able to balance home and work and to go to bed at the end of the day with a clear conscience.

    Despite growing commitments from car manufacturers and the UK government to create an electric car infrastructure, businesses in the UK remain wary of investing in electric fleet cars, according to a new report by Corporate Vehicle Observatory.

    The independent research, sponsored by Arval, a company car fleet operator, claims that compared to fleets in 13 other countries, UK company fleets are likely to show the slowest uptake of electric vehicles over the next three years.

    The poll compared feedback from UK company fleet decision makers with those from their peers in 13 other countries. A total of 3,500 fleet decision makers were surveyed from Belgium, Brazil, The Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.

    Less than 30% of larger businesses in the UK questioned in the poll were planning to introduce electric vehicles compared to 61% opting for hybrids. For small to medium sized companies, the figures were lower with only 12% considering electric vehicles compared to 26% planning to introduce hybrids.

    Reasons cited by companies for the lack of electric car take up included worries over the limited number of recharge points, concerns that the cars would be too difficult to run over longer distances and would be too costly to buy in the first place and doubts over the vehicles’ overall green credentials over time.

    The UK government has pushed for an electric car network in an attempt to revive the country’s car manufacturing industry and lower transport emissions. Policies have included introducing regional electric car networks in the North East, London and Milton Keynes, as well as a £5,000 government subsidy on the cost of buying an electric car – a measure introduced under the previous Labour government which may be pulled under the new Conservative-Lib Dem coalition.

    Car manufacturer Nissan recently committed to manufacturing electric cars at a new UK plant, based in Sunderland, from 2013 and plans its UK launch of the electric Nissan Leaf car in February next year.

    Interest from Chinese companies

    The Leaf will cost just under £30,000, £10,000 more than its hybrid competitor, the Toyota Prius. However, manufacturers, including Nissan, PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi, are in a race to sell electric cars on the mass market, partly fuelled by EU legislation encouraging companies to produce electric cars to offset the emissions of the manufacturers’ higher emission vehicles. Chinese companies will soon be in on the act too, bringing the possibility of lower prices and improved technology for electric cars, according to Peter Wells, director of the Centre for Automotive Industry Research at Cardiff Business School.

    Companies’ concerns, revealed in the fleet survey, over the environmental credentials of electric cars are yet to be resolved as car companies have not been forthcoming with figures showing the overall carbon footprints of their electric cars, including the manufacturing stage. There are also disputes over the EU’s acceptance of electric cars as ‘zero-carbon’, a ranking which excludes the carbon emitted at the electricity production stage.

    Peter Wells dismisses rumours circulated last year that over the entire lifecycle of the car, the Hummer came out as better for the environment than the Prius. but a spokesman for the Campaign for Better transport told Guardian Sustainable Business that the organisation was concerned that “[electric and hybrid] car makers will be getting parts from around the world [to manufacture batteries]” and called on electric car manufacturers to reveal the overall carbon impacts of their vehicles.

    The transport campaign is also keen to stress that sustainable transport means putting less cars on the road by encouraging alternatives, such as cycling and public transport.

    The car fleet report showed a similar appetite amongst UK businesses to decrease car use, with its conclusion that “there is an appetite for car pooling and sharing emerging over the next three years”.

    What is an EOB?

    At least once a week, a professional medical biller gets a phone call from a patient. “I got a bill from my insurance company,” the patient says. This is despite the fact that the top of the paper they are holding says, “THIS IS NOT A BILL.” Patients think it is a bill because it looks like a medical bill. It says that they are responsible for a set sum of money, or, sometimes, it states that a service on their healthcare claim was not covered by their insurer.

    Patients do not receive bills for medical services from their insurers. Only healthcare providers send out bills for services rendered. What the patient receives is commonly called an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). Alternative terms include Summary of Benefits, Remittance Advisory, Coverage Determination, or Beneficiary Notice. Medical billers commonly refer to these as EOBs, and they are the means by which commercial healthcare insurers and government healthcare programs notify their beneficiaries of how an individual healthcare claim was processed for payment.

    What is an EOB?

    An EOB does look like a bill. It contains the date of service, the code used to bill a particular service to an insurance company, the fee charged by the healthcare provider, the allowed amount under the third-party payers’s contractual fee schedule, the patient’s responsibility under the terms of their coverage, the payment made by the payer, and the contractual write-off. The final entry of each line item is usually the titled something along the lines of, “what you owe,” or, “your responsibility.” This is why some patients confuse an EOB with a medical bill.

    Like most medical billing transactions, EOBs consist of medical code, not only the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS Level I and Level II) codes, but also explanation codes that have been established by the Healthcare Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). These explanation codes are easily understood by professional medical billers who are schooled in the language of healthcare reimbursement, but they are a mystery to laypeople who only encounter them in EOBs. While each EOB normally includes a definition of the adjustment and adjudication codes, they are often in fine print and their definitions are not always apparent to a person unfamiliar with reading them.

    Adjudication Codes

    Certified medical coders are not usually familiar with the code sets that third-party payers use to communicate payment or denial information to medical billers who post payments and make financial adjustments to patient accounts. These codes fall fully within the professional domain of a medical practice’s business office rather than its compliance department. This code set is used exclusively by third-party payers, and certified medical coders do not assign these codes. They are assigned by insurance adjusters as they process healthcare claims.

    CO-16 means that required information was not receive on a healthcare claim, preventing payment for an otherwise covered service. N257 means that a third-party payer does not recognize the provider of service. CO-45 means that the fee charged exceeds the contractually agreed upon fee schedule. CO-97 means that a procedure has been bundled into a previously provided and charged, related service.

    Professional medical billers recognize these codes and adjust accounts accordingly. Some codes, such as N257, indicate that a patient’s healthcare claim was submitted with an inaccurate National Provider Number (NPI) to identify that a credentialed provider rendered covered services to a patient. The claim is then corrected by the biller and resubmitted. Other codes, such as CO-97 mean that a claim must be referred to a certified medical coder to determine if the documentation in the patient’s medical record supports modifying a charged code, or if an appeal of denied payment should be initiated by supplying appropriate documentation.

    The Role of EOBs

    Third-party payers try to keep their beneficiaries informed of what healthcare claims were submitted on their behalf by healthcare providers. They inform their patients of expected financial obligations for healthcare received, such as copays, co-insurance, and deductibles. They also inform patients that they may have received services that a payer considers medically unnecessary, experimental, or cosmetic in nature. EOBs are an important factor in identifying healthcare fraud and abuse.

    Though most patients may not be able to discern the difference between the codes 99213 and 99214, an intermediate versus an extensive office visit as defined by Common Procedural Terminology (CPT), they can tell if they received an intramuscular injection (CPT 96372). By informing patients of what was charged on their behalf, third-party payers hope to identify fraudulent charges and patterns of abuse in the billing process.

    The federal Medicare program has recognized that EOBs are a powerful fraud and abuse detection tool by actively enlisting beneficiaries to report suspected fraud and abuse. Medicare beneficiaries receive quarterly Medicare Summary Notices (MSNs) that detail all healthcare claims that have been submitted on their behalf in a three-month period. Recent changes in the format of MSNs are designed to make them more easily understood by people who are not fluent in the language of medical coding or HIPAA-standard adjudication codes. New MSNs contain plain language, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has undertaken an extensive public information campaign directing patients to compare their MSN to services actually received by healthcare providers.

    Clean Claims

    Professional medical billers and certified medical coders work together to ensure that accurate claims are submitted to third-party payers that clearly describe the services contained in the patient’s medical record. This includes accurate demographic information such as a patient’s date of birth, insurance identification number, or the provider’s NPI, and it also includes the correct procedural and diagnostic codes to describe services, with appropriate modifiers if applicable.

    An EOB informs a patient of what is included in their healthcare claims, and how it was processed according to the terms of their coverage. In an efficient medical practice or inpatient facility, the information has already been applied to a patient’s account before the patient calls with a query. A medical biller applies the information contained in an EOB because he or she receives it in the form of a Remittance Advice (RA) that accompanies a check or formal denial from a third-party payer. When the patient calls, a professional medical biller can refer to a patient’s account and tell the patient what their financial responsibility is, if any, or if a denied claim has been corrected and resubmitted on their behalf.

    The business side of medicine is conducted on a daily basis by professionals who are trained to negotiate the intricate transactions that govern healthcare reimbursement. Every medical code is associated with a charge and an agreed-upon fee. By applying the information contained in EOBs and RAs in an effective manner, medical billers ensure that no patient is responsible for more than is legally due for services, while medical coders ensure that no patient is responsible for more than is legally due for medically necessary services that were provided. EOBs ensure compliance with applicable statutes and contractual obligations, making patients an important component in the transparency of healthcare reimbursement. Educated and trained billers and coders strive to ensure that the only advisement code they see on an RA is CO-45.

Die Markenführung soll deutlich erhalten bleiben, bei einer klar differenzierten Optik, um darüber unterschiedliche Zielgruppen und Verwendungsanlässe zu adressieren.

    Nicht nur die entsprechenden Umverpackungen wie Sixpacks, Logipacks und Dosen und hat SOLUTIONS dem neuen Design angepasst, sondern darüber hinaus auch einer Innovation des Mix-Segments ein attraktives Gesicht geben.

    Bereits seit 2005 ist Anheuser-Busch InBev Kunde von SOLUTIONS. Es ist insbesondere die enge Zusammenarbeit, die auch schon zum Erfolg bei anderen Marken, wie z.
