Enterprise Request Management

What is ERM?

World-class service delivery today means a relentless focus on customer-centricity–delighting internal and/or external service consumers in the fastest, easiest and most economical manner possible. Frameworks like ITIL, while not dead, have often been applied incorrectly, leading to more frustration than improvement. Service management best practices in the age of the customer need to be more agile, provide greater choice, and demonstrate value.

Enterprise Request Management, or ERM, is a concept that offers fully integrated business process automation delivered in an intuitive user interface, while employing an integrated back-end delivery model that leverages your existing enterprise software investments. This approach ensures cost-effective enterprise service delivery with first-time fulfillment, resulting in lower costs and happier customers.

The problem: Misaligned business processes waste money and frustrate customers

In shared-service environments, organizational entities (e.g. functional departments like IT, HR, facilities, marketing, accounting) use various methods to interact with “customers” (internal or external) who need business services. This includes recording and resolving incidents, defining and delivering services, and fulfilling other needs people have in order to be productive in their jobs.

In general, each business support area has its own systems and processes for managing business services delivery. Organizing service delivery in functional silos may seem logical from a departmental perspective, but it leads to inefficiency at the enterprise level. End users are often required to use different systems (for example, a service catalog limited to IT services), or at least different user interfaces, to request business services from different areas. This duplication of effort wastes time and money, creates frustration, and increased training costs.

The answer: Enterprise Request Management (ERM)

The Enterprise Request Management (ERM) approach replaces old-style, proprietary request management approaches with an open model that leverages information in existing enterprise applications and data sources for a centralized, efficient way to manage service requests enterprise-wide.

With ERM, business process automation follows a defined flow that assures all necessary tasks are completed in the proper order. It can include simple tasks (e.g. register a user for system access) or more complex tasks such as onboarding a new employee. Automation is applied wherever possible. ERM is an agile approach that enables organizations to augment their existing tools and processes to be more customer-focused.

ERM encompasses the complete request management process from the initial service request through costing and reporting for continuous process improvement.

Benefits of the ERM approach include:

  • Improved User Experience
  • Centralization of Business Services
  • First time and automated fulfillment
  • Leveraging Existing Systems

Be frank and honest. Tell us how you really feel and why. Useful ratings are detailed and specific, and give the readers a feel of your experience.

Think what information you want when you ask a friend or co-worker to recommend you a restaurant, a service, an activity, or a business.

Here are some questions you might want to answer in your rating:

Were you satisfied with the overall experience? Would you want to experience it again?

Do you believe this store/service was better as compared to other similar businesses that you have experienced earlier? Do you think you got value for your money?

Do you believe the whole experience was special? Did you have to compromise in any way? If yes, was it worth it?

Would you recommend this service to others?

Try to present facts and keep it objective. Was your pizza hot? Were the wraps fresh?

Keep it short & sweet. Write short sentences that stick to the point and focus on your experience. The recommended length for a local review is from 100 to 250 words.

Do not spoil it for others. Do not abuse the service. Ratings should not harass, abuse, or threaten someone personal safety or property, make false statements, defame, impersonate anyone, contain profanity, be sexually explicit, illegal or otherwise objectionable content, as determined by Justdial in its sole discretion.

Do not post personal information. Never assume that you are completely anonymous and cannot be identified by your posts. Rating should not include personal information, such as email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers or credit card numbers belonging to you or others.

Do not post multiple or commercial ratings. Ratings should not include posts that have spam, commercial or advertising content or links.

Do not imitate or copy others’ trademarks or material. Ratings should include your own, original thoughts. We want to hear from you!

How does the rating system work?

The rating a business or service receives is determined by the average rating it gets from all who have rated it. Ratings are based on a scale of 1 to 5 stars:

Enterprise Resource Planning Software Leaders by Market Segment

For an additional market segmentation perceptive, the below summary points illustrate how the Top 5 ERP systems best line up with the small business, middle and enterprise customer market segments.

Epicor offers strong ERP software functionality along with several impressive Industry solutions for Professional Services Automation (PSA), financial services, hospitality management, retail, distribution, manufacturing, pharma and not for profit. In a late 2007 analyst release report, Epicor was recognized by Aberdeen as achieving the lowest TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and total per user cost of software, services and maintenance for mid-size companies. In fact, the Epicor ERP solution came in at less than 50% of competing ERP products. We find the company’s channel strategy questionable which may necessitate more review for international buyers.

Infor is the mega company that surprising few ERP software buyers are aware of. Largely based on an aggressive acquisition and roll-up strategy, Infor is the third largest ERP manufacturer – behind only SAP and Oracle. Infor is a vertically oriented software publisher with several different ERP software systems and particularly strong distribution, supply chain management (SCM), lean manufacturing, complex manufacturing and process manufacturing solutions.

SAP is the largest and most recognized Fortune 1000, Global 5000 and enterprise market share leader. The company has achieved its success due to its extremely deep accounting and distribution software suites along with tightly integrated financials, manufacturing, human resource, payroll and customer relationship management software systems. While the company claims that its retains significant middle market share, its definition of ‘middle market’ is more in lines with other definition of the enterprise market.

Oracle is the world’s second largest business applications maker – and is clearly out to take the lead role from SAP. Bolstered by its acquisitions of PeopleSoft (with JD Edwards) and Siebel Systems, Oracle has collected an impressive customer list and portfolio of intellectual property. Now the real work to keep those customers and integrate those products (project Fusion) is underway with results expected very soon. Expect several more acquisition and integration project announcements from Oracle over the coming months.

The ERP Evolution Continues

The ERP systems evolution is taking an unusual turn. For those that may remember, ERP applications were originally introduced as mainframe and host-based monolithic applications in the 1970’s and 1980’s. McCormack and Dodge and MSA (Management Sciences America) were fierce competitors and between them owned the lions share of the ERP software market. The two rivals ultimately merged to become Dun Bradstreet Software. Following the merger of the number one and number two market share leaders, Dun Bradstreet Software believed itself to be an unstoppable ERP application titan, however, was soon thereafter completely replaced by the introduction of client/server applications and later sold to Geac for a marginal fee valued largely on existing customer software maintenance contracts.

Starting in November 1992, the client/server ERP applications began appearing from no-name or lesser name software manufacturers such as Platinum Software, PeopleSoft, Oracle Financials, Baan and SAP. These distributed software and GUI interfaced applications grew at the expense of the mainframe ERP systems. Midrange systems such as the AS/400 continued to survive, however, their growth days were clearly over. The most notable of the client/server ERP players – SAP and Oracle Financials – stand alone as today’s ERP application market share leaders. However, now they too are threatened by new technology paradigms from software as a service (SaaS) competitors and open source software.

At the turn of the century, SaaS ERP systems were introduced as a new pricing and systems management alternative to client/server systems. While originally weak in software depth and scalability, leading ERP systems such as Aplicor, Intacct and NetSuite have evolved to deliver functionally equivalent ERP applications, however, with the advertised advantages of the SaaS delivery model (e.g. subscription pricing, hosted delivery, fewer internal IT resources, etc.). These leading SaaS ERP applications are clearly replacing the middle market client/server ERP systems (most notably the Microsoft ERP products of Great Plains, Solomon, Navision and Axapta) in many situations, however, are not yet mature enough to take on the industry giants Oracle or SAP.

Open Source ERP has yet to prove itself as a replacement to commercial ERP applications. While open source ERP applications are clearly growing, they are more often than not used to create first time business systems for young companies or replace antiquated custom built ERP applications with new custom built ERP applications this time built on open source technology.

While Microsoft, Oracle and SAP would be wise to reference the then seemingly unstoppable power of their Dun Bradstreet Software predecessor, they appear to instead exhibit a similar behavior to Dun Bradstreet. All three have scoffed at the SaaS delivery model and mocked the open source initiative. While they are now finally showing some interest, that interests appears to belittle more than dipping their toe in the water and their strategies appear to be more of a defensive tactic designed to slow down the market share loss of their customer base to these new ERP models. We suspect there will be a turning point where protection of their self interests will prove futile and these industry heavyweights will embrace at least the SaaS model and possibly show some substantive interests in the open source model.

What is enterprise mobility management (EMM)? Definition from #enterprise #mobility #management

enterprise mobility management (EMM)

Enterprise mobility management (EMM) is an all-encompassing approach to securing and enabling employee use of smartphones and tablets. In addition to addressing security concerns, a strong EMM strategy also helps employees be more productive by providing them with the tools they need to perform work-related tasks on mobile devices.

Experts provide best practices for mobile application delivery and management to help deal with the flood of mobile devices, new applications and data security demands.

By submitting your personal information, you agree that TechTarget and its partners may contact you regarding relevant content, products and special offers.

You also agree that your personal information may be transferred and processed in the United States, and that you have read and agree to the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy .

EMM typically involves some combination of mobile device management ( MDM ), mobile application management ( MAM ) and mobile information management ( MIM ). MDM focuses on locking down mobile devices, while MAM focuses on controlling which users can access which applications and MIM focuses on allowing only approved applications to access corporate data or transmit it.

These three technologies all address specific concerns, but do not provide complete solutions for the problems that enterprise mobility can cause or make worse. The overlap between MDM, MAM and MIM is actually quite minimal. The challenge lies in managing all three concerns with minimal overhead. As more organizations adopt enterprise mobility management, vendors have started to productize EMM, usually by adding MAM or MIM features to their MDM products or vice versa. An enterprise app store or other application delivery and deployment technology is also a common component of EMM products.

Enterprise Software Deployment #enterprise #software #deployment

Enterprise Software Deployment

The term Enterprise Software Deployment refers to all of the activities that must take place to make a software application available to end users. Enterprise Software Deployment technically begins after a software application has been written, tested, packaged and delivered to an enterprise. Enterprise Software Deployment is a recurring phase of the software development lifecycle, since software is constantly being upgraded, to fix bugs or add new features. This fact makes Enterprise Software Deployment a core element in the administration of IT services within an enterprise.

The traditional method of software deployment places a heavy burden on enterprise IT resources, as they must devote a significant amount of time and attention to the installation and maintenance of all applications that exist within the enterprise computing environment. Conversely, under a SaaS (Software as a Service) model of software delivery, cloud architecture provides a SaaS provider with a mechanism to easily deliver software over the Internet, thereby eliminating the need to deploy software to each application user, as required under the traditional model of software delivery. The SaaS model of software delivery promises enormous savings opportunities for the enterprise, in terms or labor utilization and operational expenses for software deployment and maintenance.

It is important to note the infrequently mentioned missing link in the equation for optimizing Enterprise Software Deployment under the SaaS model of software delivery: SOA (Service Oriented Architecture). SaaS and SOA are the perfect pairing, as SOA -enabled SaaS providers have the capacity to serve thousands of clients from a single instance of an application that is pushed out to an enterprise cloud. This makes the delivery of software a seamless event, due to the additional level of flexibility, scalability and version control that is available when SOA is coupled with SaaS.

SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) provides a framework where software components are delivered as services, which significantly reduces the cost of software deployment and maintenance. SOA facilitates the integration of individual software components into an unlimited number of applications on demand. Each component is maintained by its owner (the web service provider). This provides organizations with the ability to virtually build entire applications without a need to ever worry about software updates or upgrades, as this is handled by the web service providers. Organizations can use the various web services and APIs made available by various web service providers to build a variety of SaaS solutions to be delivered via the enterprise cloud.

Here, the enterprise application is designed by a third-party application service provider and leased to the enterprise, as an on-premise or hosted service. This is also often referred to s oftware-a s-as ervice (SaaS ) or Web-based applications.

Trends in Enterprise Apps

Another trend in enterprise applications is the move to cloud computing. where the enterprise moves some or its entire infrastructure to the cloud — a type of Internet-based computing, where services are delivered to an organization’s computers and devices through the Internet as an on-demand service. InfyTalk: Mobility and the Enterprise #forrester, #building #tomorrow’s #enterprise, #mobility, flypp, #cloud, cornelius #vanderbilt,

    #

Planet Earth has yet to pass the 7 billion mark when it comes to human beings alive on its surface. Yet it recently passed the 7.3 billion threshold for mobile devices. That there are more mobile telephones than people in the world is one thing. But when you factor out the many humans that are barely out of diapers, or very old, that ratio becomes even more extraordinary.

The folks at Forrester Research recently published a study that points to a startling phenomenon: that although there are a lot of mobile devices out there, true mobility is difficult for organizations both to attain and, later, to maintain. (Coleridge comes to mind: “Water, water, every where, nor any drop to drink!” )

According to Forrester, ready-to-go mobile solutions that are both horizontal and industry-specific are now de rigeuer. That’s why the leading providers of enterprise mobility services are all flocking to make their apps what shift-on-the-fly did for off-road driving three decades ago. “More than just reusable assets, these are full-blown solutions — both cross-industry or ready for specific industries,” the Forrester report stated. Enterprise mobility has become a “go strong or go home” market arena. Yes, it’s a crowded space. But sheer numbers of entrants don’t mean nearly as much as the fact that the space is changing dramatically. oh, every five minutes or so. The popularity of the Cloud and the ever-increasing demands of consumers to be everywhere at the same time (and in real time) means providers of mobility solutions have to work innovatively and tirelessly to stay ahead of their competitors with product offerings that impress.

Speaking of outsmarting the competition, I’m reminded of one of the most extraordinary businessmen of the 19th century, Cornelius Vanderbilt. When he first saw the potential market for people who needed to be ferried back and forth across New York Harbor, he assembled a fleet of sailboats. While his competitors were building their own fleets of wind-powered boats, he was already thinking about a steam-powered operation. And when his competitors jettisoned wind for steam power themselves, he redefined travel altogether – he was investing in railroads! Vanderbilt was a business leader because his vision and abilities had both breadth and depth of focus. So must providers of solutions be when it comes to modern-day enterprise mobility.

Those of us who are dedicated to building tomorrow’s enterprise today might not be surprised at all. We continue to make deep investment into future areas. What makes us stand apart is that we know fully well that such areas have vast potential. And as we lead the field in user experience, process consulting, development, and end-to-end capacity to support our clients across a broad spectrum of their mobility needs – we are delighted that we are already the standard by which other companies are gauging themselves.

    Cloud-based IP Telephony

    Cost savings

The traditional voice landscape involves expensive in-house infrastructure: The ubiquitous ‘tin box’ telephone system bolted onto the wall which – following sometimes considerable upfront expense – comes with a nasty catch in the hidden expenditure of upgrade, maintenance and running costs.

Our managed Cloud telephony service model is different: There are no upgrade or maintenance charges. It’s a straightforward monthly licence fee on a per user basis. A simple pay-as-you-go model with a compelling punch line – a new IP telephone system for about the same price as the maintenance charges on your old one. There’s no ISDN line rental charges and no maintenance or upgrade charges, just a significantly reduced predictable monthly charge.

    • Enterprise-grade hosted IP telephony phone system
    • PSTN connectivity included – no need for separate ISDN lines
    • Improved business continuity – instantly reroute calls in the event of a site outage
    • Full integration of mobile and home-workers
    • Integrated call recording
    • Integration with our Unified Communications service
    • Central administration portal for customer managed adds, moves and changes
    • 99.99% availability SLA and 24/7 technical support

    BYOD Security Software

BYOD promises unprecedented new streams of workforce productivity in the present age of cloud computing and Consumerization of IT. The increasingly mobile workforce in today’s enterprise needs to take advantage of the latest mobile technologies that redefine how employees collaborate, interact, learn and perform. By eliminating the cost of purchasing latest mobile gadgets and allowing employees to use devices of their choice, organizations can ensure a satisfied mobile workforce using the technology that works best to deliver superior productivity.

This flexibility comes at a cost for organizations that fail to enforce adequate BYOD management and security policies, and ultimately risk cyber-attacks. Innovative new mobile device management solutions empower organizations with the capabilities they need to unleash the power of enterprise mobility while addressing the rising BYOD security and management challenges.

The Codeproof enterprise mobility platform works as a centralized SaaS console offering a range of mobility management features, including:

    MDM Enrollment

This is the first step of MDM enablement in BYOD devices using either Agent-based or Agent-less profile installation. Once the device is configured with MDM, IT Administrators can remotely control corporate data and network access in enrolled devices.

    Owners Privacy

In the Codeproof console, IT Administrators can categorize BYOD devices and enforce different sets of corporate policies on different device groups. When a BYOD device is lost or stolen, IT Administrators can wipe selective data such as WiFi configurations, emails, business apps and other information critical to the organization’s security.

    Configuring WiFi, Email and VPN

Before BYOD users can access corporate resources, make sure that their device is authorized to access the corporate network through WiFi, Email or VPN access points. IT administrators can remotely push corporate WiFi access privileges to devices and change VPN and Email configurations.

    Terminating Corporate Data Access

When BYOD users terminate their jobs, IT administrators can remotely delete their business emails and WiFi profile configurations, and uninstall the apps deployed using the MDM platform. Wiping the entire device data is not required and the device will still retain the user’s personal data, apps, contacts, photos and other information.

The enterprise mobility management is now simplified!

The comprehensive SaaS enterprise mobility management solution is offered on an affordable, no-obligation subscription-basis pricing model.

Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V) enhances deployment and management of Virtual PC images on a Windows Desktop, while also providing a seamless user experience of a Virtual PC environment, independent of the local desktop configuration and operating system (OS).

MED-V leverages Microsoft Virtual PC to provide an enterprise solution for desktop virtualization. With MED-V, you can easily create, deliver and manage corporate Virtual PC images on any Windows desktop.

Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization is an integral component of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (aka MDOP), a dynamic solution available to Software Assurance customers, which will help reduce application deployment costs, enables delivery of applications as services, and helps to better manage and control enterprise desktop environments.

Enable legacy applications and accelerate upgrades to new operating systems

Incompatibility of legacy applications with the new version of Microsoft Windows can often delay enterprise upgrades to the latest version of Windows. Testing and migrating applications can take a while, and users are unable to take advantage of the new capabilities and enhancements offered by the new OS.

By delivering applications in a Virtual PC that runs a previous version of the OS (e.g. Windows XP or Windows 2000), MED-V removes the barriers to OS upgrades, and allows administrators to complete testing and to deal with incompatible applications after the upgrade.

From the user’s perspective, these applications are accessible from the standard desktop Start menu and appear side-by-side with native applications so there is minimal change to the user experience.

    Known Issues:

File downloads do not follow web redirection rules.

If the LAN adapter is disabled when a Workspace configured in bridge mode is started, and the adapter is later enabled, the network will not resume. Restarting the Workspace solves this issue.

Workspace image download may be delayed if Windows update is running when it is started.

When the user is required to change his domain password in order to login to Windows inside the Workspace, the client receives a notification about using the wrong username/password, rather than a notification that he should change his domain password.

When expanding a DOS application (e.g. cmd.exe) window to full screen, the application window disappears.

When the domain password is changed while the Workspace is running, and the Workspace is restarted, a wrong password notification appears on the client and the user is required to re-enter the new password.

When installing MED-V using the command line, it is configured by default to launch after installation. This causes problems when installing MED-V in the system context. In this case it is required to use the START_MEDV=0 parameter.

When working in full desktop mode, manual location changes of icons on the desktop are not saved between Workspace sessions.

Multiple versions of the same Workspace created on the same machine are always assigned the same unique name. This may cause problems when multiple virtual machines with the same name attempt to join the domain.

When transferring very large files using the file transfer tool, the transfer may fail.

Crooks Steal, Sell Verizon Enterprise Customer Data

Verizon Enterprise Solutions. a B2B unit of the telecommunications giant that gets called in to help Fortune 500 s respond to some of the world s largest data breaches, is reeling from its own data breach involving the theft and resale of customer data, KrebsOnSecurity has learned.

Earlier this week, a prominent member of a closely guarded underground cybercrime forum posted a new thread advertising the sale of a database containing the contact information on some 1.5 million customers of Verizon Enterprise.

The seller priced the entire package at $100,000, but also offered to sell it off in chunks of 100,000 records for $10,000 apiece. Buyers also were offered the option to purchase information about security vulnerabilities in Verizon s Web site.

Contacted about the posting, Verizon Enterprise told KrebsOnSecurity that the company recently identified a security flaw in its site that permitted hackers to steal customer contact information, and that it is in the process of alerting affected customers.

Verizon recently discovered and remediated a security vulnerability on our enterprise client portal, the company said in an emailed statement. Our investigation to date found an attacker obtained basic contact information on a number of our enterprise customers. No customer proprietary network information (CPNI) or other data was accessed or accessible.

The seller of the Verizon Enterprise data offers the database in multiple formats, including the database platform MongoDB. so it seems likely that the attackers somehow forced the MongoDB system to dump its contents. Verizon has not yet responded to questions about how the breach occurred, or exactly how many customers were being notified.

The irony in this breach is that Verizon Enterprise is typically the one telling the rest of the world how these sorts of breaches take place. I frequently recommend Verizon s annual Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) because each year s is chock full of interesting case studies from actual breaches, case studies that include hard lessons which mostly age very well (i.e. even a DBIR report from four years ago has a great deal of relevance to today s security challenges).

According to the 2015 report, for example, Verizon Enterprise found that organized crime groups were the most frequently seen threat actor for Web application attacks of the sort likely exploited in this instance. Virtually every attack in this data set (98 percent) was opportunistic in nature, all aimed at easy marks, the company explained.

It s a fair bet that if cyber thieves buy all or some of the Verizon Enterprise customer database, some of those customers may be easy marks for phishing and other targeted attacks. Even if it is limited to the contact data for technical managers at companies that use Verizon Enterprise Solutions, this is bound to be target-rich list: According to Verizon s page at Wikipedia. some 99 percent of Fortune 500 companies are using Verizon Enterprise Solutions.

5 Open Source Big Data Analysis Platforms and Tools

It seems that Hadoop. by offering lower cost distributed computing, did as much to advance Big Data as any other software solution. So certainly any list of open source Big Data platforms will start with Hadoop. Yet as the rise of Spark shows, Hadoop may be a founding pioneer and may well retain its place as the foundation of Big Data but will not of course be its sole cornerstone. So think of this list (which does indeed start with Hadoop) as a glimpse of the pioneering days, the true infancy, of Big Data. The solutions on this list all look, to a greater or lesser extent, to Hadoop as a standard by which to compare their own performance. But the range of the list shows that this comparison is indeed just a springboard, and that many other open source Big Data solutions are sure to evolve in the years ahead.
