Cheap Hotels

Here on lastminute.com we pride ourselves on having better deals than anywhere else so wherever in the world you’re planning to visit we have the perfect hotel for you.

London

London is one of the most visited places in the world and it’s not hard to see why. London has some great options for cheap city breaks with lots of exciting attractions and museums on offer to suit most budgets. London is home to some world-class art galleries that are the envy of the world.

Tate Modern is a must-visit with its excellent collection of modern and contemporary art from artists like Picasso and Matisse. Just a short hop over the river from Tate Modern is its sister gallery Tate Britain, and both galleries are perfect for budget travellers as they offer free entry.

Edinburgh

We also have a great selection of cheap hotels available in the Scottish capital. Edinburgh is a brilliant destination for a cultural city break. A great place to visit is the National Museum of Scotland which has over 8,000 objects for you to explore. The collection includes fascinating items like jewellery commissioned by Mary Queen of Scotts.

Another must-see in Edinburgh is the Scottish National Gallery which showcases art from the Renaissance through to the start of the 20 th century. The gallery is excellent if you’re trying to stick to a budget as entry is completely free.

Paris

The perfect setting for a romantic break away Paris is a very popular tourist destination but it doesn’t have to break the bank. A trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without a climb up to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Constructed for the 1889 World Fair the elegant structure is a brilliant way to get your trip to Paris started.

The most visited site in Paris is Notre Dame which is a fantastic example of Gothic architecture. The cathedral is a brilliant budget day out as entry is free.

Dubai

Despite its reputation as the home of mega rich oil billionaires, Dubai can be an affordable option for a city break. Dominating the Dubai skyline the Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building and you won’t want to leave without having taken a trip to its summit. As well as its breathtaking views the building is home to a collection of multimedia exhibits which give interesting insights into its construction.

After you’ve visited the world’s tallest building you will want to complete the set by visiting the Dubai Mall which has over 1,200 stores and is the world’s largest shopping mall.

Hilton Worldwide encompasses several brands: Waldorf Astoria luxury hotels and resorts, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites, and Hilton Grand Vacations timeshares, among others. Hilton s headquarters are in Tyson s Corner, an unincorporated community in the Washington, D.C. area. The world-renowned Hilton name traces back to the son of a Norwegian immigrant. Conrad Hilton, whose early career included a stint as a representative in the New Mexico Legislature and two years in the U.S. Army, bought his first hotel at age 32. In 1927 in Waco, Texas, he would open the first hotel with air conditioning and cold running water. Hilton continued to buy hotels across the country, until in 1946, Hilton Hotels Corporation began trading on the New York Stock Exchange, and three years later Hilton International was born.

Hilton Worldwide is an American hospitality company that includes thirteen global brands.

The Hilton Hotel Corporation was founded by Conrad Hilton in 1919 in Cisco, Texas. Hilton International began operating in 1949. Hilton s headquarters were in Beverly Hills, CA from 1969 to 2009, when they moved to northern Virginia.

Conrad Hilton was the first hotelier to grace the cover of TIME magazine. Hilton spearheaded the concept of the airport hotel. Hilton also has sponsored the U.S. Olympic Team. In 2012 Hilton was named the Happiest Company in America by a Careerbliss.com survey of 100,000 employees. Christopher J. Nassetta is the CEO of Hilton Worldwide.

Marriott International

Find cheap motelsBased in Bethesda, Maryland, Marriott International is a global lodging company with over 5,700 properties in 110 countries. Marriott s thirty international brands range from Classic Luxury hotels like The Ritz-Carlton to Distinctive Premium hotel chains like Westin. Marriott offers a guest loyalty program that allows travelers to earn points toward free vacations, frequent flyer miles, and other benefits. The Marriott brand is rooted in the values of the Marriott family, who still guide the hotel chains. John Marriott, a Mormon missionary, started a root beer stand in Washington, D.C. with his wife Alice in 1927. The stand proved a welcome refreshment for city residents, and the Marriott’s were inspired to start a chain of restaurants and hotels. The first hotel to bear the Marriott name opened in 1957 in Arlington, VA. In 1993, the hotel split into two companies: Marriott International and Host Marriott. The former acquired interest in The Ritz-Carlton in 1995. Thanks to a recent merger with Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Marriott International is now the biggest hotel chain in the world.

Marriott International is the world s largest hospitality company with 30 brands and more than 1.2 million rooms worldwide.

Marriott Corporation was founded in 1927 by John Willard Marriott, a Mormon missionary living in Bethesda, Maryland. Marriott International was created in 1993 when the corporation split into two separate entities. In 1998 Marriott gained a majority ownership of The Ritz-Carlton. Marriott s headquarters remain in Bethesda.

Marriott rooms provide the Book of Mormon as well as the Holy Bible for their guests. Marriott was the first hotel chain to serve food with no trans fats in their North American properties. Their second ever hotel, the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, VA, has been continuously operating for 57 years. In 2014 Marriott created The Envelope, Please, an initiative to encourage guests to tip the hotel housekeepers. The current CEO is Arne M. Sorenson.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation

Find cheap motelsJay Pritzker s 1957 purchase of the Hyatt House at Los Angeles International Airport facilitated the growth of the hotel, which is today a multinational company that owns and operates numerous resorts, hotels, and vacation properties. Hyatt Robert Von Dehn, the hotel s namesake and one of its original owners, sold his company share to Pritzker, who worked with his younger brother Donald to expand the company. By 1962, the corporation was a publicly traded company and the fastest growing hotel chain in America. Their flagship Asian hotel, the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, opened in 1969. The Grand, Park, and Hyatt resort brands took off in 1980. In 2004, the Pritzker’s consolidated all their family s hospitality assets into the Global Hyatt Corporation, now called Hyatt Hotels Corporation. The hotel s headquarters are in Chicago IL.

Hyatt owns 679 properties in 54 countries. These include hotels with full-service lodging such as the boutique-style Andaz chain and the convention-friendly Hyatt Regency. There are also select-service and extended-stay brands, as well as timeshares and all-inclusive resorts like the Hyatt Zilara.

The hotel was founded by entrepreneurs Jack Dyer Crouch and Hyatt Robert von Dehn, but brothers Jay and Donald Pritzker were responsible for the corporation s rapid growth in the 1960s and 70s. The company went global in 1969 with the opening of a Regency hotel in Hong Kong, China.

Fortune magazine named Hyatt the 47th best U.S.-based company to work for in 2016. The Hyatt Regency Atlanta, which opened in 1967, was the world s first contemporary atrium hotel. The current CEO is Mark S. Hoplamazian. Thomas J. Pritzker, the son of Jay Pritzker, is the executive chairman.

InterContinental Hotels Group

Find cheap motelsInterContinental Hotels Group PLC, also called IHG, is a global hotel company that houses well-known brands like Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, and their own brand, InterContinental. IHG s 5,099 hotels add up to 754,265 rooms around the world. Most recently, they launched the Hualuxe chain of luxury hotels and resorts in China, and EVEN Hotels, a wellness-oriented brand aimed at health-conscious travelers. IHG is based in Denham, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom. When William Bass opened the Bass Brewery in Burton-upon-Trent in 1777, he had no way of knowing that his pub would blossom into a nationally known brewery brand. As the Bass name was expanding in the UK, Pan American Airways founder Juan Trippe was opening the first InterContinental Hotel in Belém, Brazil, as a division of PanAm. PanAm would sell InterContinental to UK-based Grand Metropolitan in 1981, who then sold it to Japan-based Saison Group in 1988. That same year, the British government passed legislation curtailing the number of pubs one breweries could own, so Bass turned its focus to its small chain of hotels. In 1990, Bass bought Holiday Inn International, and in 1998 it bought InterContinental. IHG became an independent company in 2003. Today IHG has offices in Denham, Atlanta, Singapore, and Shanghai.

IHG is a British hotel chain with 5,099 hotels in 100 countries and more than eight brands to its name. Its headquarters are in Denham, United Kingdom.

IHG was conceived by American entrepreneur Juan Trippe as a branch of Pan American Airways. Eventually it was sold to U.K. company Bass, and it became an independent corporation in 2003.

The Wilshire Grand Center, a property of IHG that is set to open in 2017, will be the tallest building in Los Angeles at 1,099 feet. IHG is currently listed on the Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 Index, an index of the 100 companies on the London Stock Exchange with the highest market capitalization. Richard Solomons is IHC s CEO.

How to Find a Cheap Hotel Room: Sites to Use and Sites to Avoid

July 20, 2017 / By NomadicMatt

Find me a hotel

As much as I love hostels and other forms of cheap accommodation, there is something nice about the luxuriousness of a hotel: the clean room, comfy bed, desk, iron, strong shower, and bottled soap for the taking (errr I mean borrowing). They are quiet, relaxing, and a respite from the world.

But luxury comes at a price. Hotels certainly aren’t cheap, and I hate spending money on a room I am only going to be in for a few hours. After all, it’s just a place to sleep (and take soap). It’s why I mostly avoid hotels — I don’t think they are a good use of money. I would much rather stay in a hostel or Airbnb, which cost less, have more social interaction, and don’t make you feel as removed from the destination you’re staying at. I always feel hotels are so isolating like a concrete bubble keeping out the place you’re visiting.

But there are times when a hotel can’t be avoided. Hostels aren’t everywhere, booking a last minute hotel room is easier than finding an Airbnb host, and sometimes you just really need a nice bed and shower. Plus, I have a ton of points so free is worth the isolation.

A few years ago, I was traveling to conferences and other work-related events a lot and staying in a bunch of hotels. I decided to see which hotel booking sites came back with the cheapest results. I picked five cities to research (London, Los Angeles, Paris, NYC, and Seattle) and stays close to the date of my research and then far in advance, on both weekdays and weekends.

I searched six booking websites — Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com, Hotwire, Priceline, and TravelPony — in 2-, 3-, and 4-star categories.

The conclusion? Well, there wasn’t really a great conclusion.

The overall numbers showed that some sites were stronger in certain regions or for certain classes of hotel. TravelPony was the winner in the US and for higher-class hotels, and Expedia dominated London and Paris, while Priceline was great for 2-star hotels and Hotwire for 3-star hotels. The big loser? Booking.com.

That was in 2014, and booking websites and options have changed a lot since then. The only constant in travel is that nothing is constant — and a booking website is as only good as its inventory, which, as someone who now owns a hostel that’s not listed in every booking engine, I can tell you varies widely.

So I decided to do another search. This time I searched Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com, Agoda, and Priceline for prices in London, New York, Paris, Bangkok, Buenos Aires, and Berlin. I searched on July 3 rd for space later that week and then one month later during the weekday and weekend (prices and availability change on the weekend).

Well, the complete opposite of the previous results. Back in 2014, Booking.com was terrible, TravelPony showed promise, and Agoda was only good in Asia.

This time around the clear winner was Booking.com, followed by Agoda. Though it didn t return the largest number of total places, Booking.com returned the largest number of cheap places and that s the most important thing. I found the best deals and largest variety in all the destinations I searched for on Booking. For example, in my September search in Paris, it listed over 2,300 results, including 250 2 star listings and 750 star listings (and it told me the place was over 60% booked when I searched). Agoda still had the best results in Asia (it returned 2,900 results in Bangkok compared to 2,500 for Booking) but had definitely expanded their listings around the world it roughly tied Booking in Paris, Buenos Aires, and Sydney for overall listings, though they had fewer budget listings than Booking.

And all those other major booking websites? Well, Orbitz and Travelocity are part of Expedia and use the same database, and while they turned back a large number of results, they tilted more to the higher end of the price spectrum. And websites like Priceline and Hotwire have top-notch blind booking and bidding options that can get you a very cheap hotel (in the star category and area you want). Sometimes prices are up to 40% off. The downside? You don’t get to know the name of the hotel you’re staying in until after you have paid.

There are a lot of hotel websites and I’ve tried many over the last few years as I’ve started to book hotels more and more, but this test just proved what I already thought: for cheap accommodation, Booking.com and Agoda are just the best resources that have the largest selection of results. If you search these two companies, you ll always find the best hotel bargains in the 1, 2m or 3 star category.

Note: Years ago, I said to skip Trivago because I found it misleading: when you went to the other sites to compare results, the hotel classes and prices were different. I found the same thing this time. I clicked over to their cheapest deals, then did the search on the website they took me to only to find out that the place Trivago listed wasn’t even in the same class I wanted — and there were better options on the redirected website. In short, I would still skip Trivago.

How to book a cheap hotel

Besides using the right booking websites, there are some hacks you can use to score the cheapest room rate possible:

Contact the hotel websites directly – If you’re booking a big-name, global-brand hotel (think Starwood, Marriott, Hilton, etc.), book directly with that hotel. They often have the best deals on their website, but if you find a better deal elsewhere, they’ll match it. The big benefit to direct bookings at these global hotel chains is that you only earn loyalty points and status when you book directly, so if you love points, don’t book their rooms elsewhere.

Bargain – Want a better deal? Call up a hotel and ask for one. Sometimes they can give you better rates, especially if it’s during mid-week on some non-peak time of the year.

Use loyalty reward programs – The best way to stay for cheap is to stay for free. Collect points with the big chains by using their branded credit cards, shopping portals, and other travel hacking methods.

Use discount rates like AAA or AARP – If you are part of the AARP or AAA you can get special rates that are cheaper. Fun fact: Anyone can join the AARP. I’m a member. They have amazing travel benefits (including deals on hotels and British Airways flights). It’s well worth the membership.

Get discounted gift cards – You can book major hotel chains with hotel gift cards. Check out a website like Giftcardgranny.com for discounted gift cards and use it to book your hotel. (Gift card purchases also count toward point earnings and status.)

Buy someone else’s reservation with Roomer – Often people can’t go on a trip and can’t cancel the reservation, so rather than lose the money, hotels put these rooms on Roomer, where they sell it at a discount to earn some money back. I’ve never used this website, but I’ve heard decent things about it. It’s worth a try.

Hotel pricing is a lot more set than airline pricing and tends to fluctuate less. I wouldn’t spend hours searching hotel websites or days tracking prices like people do with airline prices. I’d spend, at the most, 30 minutes on booking a hotel. I found that the variation between sites isn’t enough to justify more time.

Just follow the steps above, get a great cheap room, and enjoy your trip.

That’s quite a change from reviews of Greater Chicago during the rest of the year, with cold winds, snow, and bundling up in your Alaska parkas. That being said, the summer months is when Chicago really comes alive, from the outdoor restaurants, packed lake-shore beaches and places like Navy Pier or visits to the Dales.

When reserving a hotel room, do you book directly with the hotel, or through an online booking site like Expedia or Priceline?

If you answered the latter, hotels are trying to change that. And you may stand to gain.

A few weeks ago Hyatt Hotels began offering discounts to members of its loyalty program who book their rooms through Hyatt instead of a third party such as Travelocity. The announcement came after Marriott International introduced new discounted rates for loyalty program members who book directly with Marriott (which created an unambiguous marketing campaign called “It Pays to Book Direct”). Both chains announced their discounts in the wake of Hilton Worldwide, which said in February that it was rolling out the largest marketing campaign in its nearly 100-year history to tell its loyalty program members that they would receive discounts on rooms at more than 4,500 hotels around the world if they booked directly.

Hotels have been trying to get travelers to book through their websites and call centers for years, but now major chains are going further than ever to woo travelers away from third-party booking sites, which charge commission fees and have been a barrier to hotels marketing directly to their guests. (Stay tuned: When asked during its most recent earnings call about hotels offering discounts for direct booking, Expedia said that it was considering more flexible ways to work including “testing link-offs from our site on to the direct sites of some of our chain partners,” said Mark D. Okerstrom, Expedia’s executive vice president and chief financial officer.) With hotels and booking sites vying to be the point of sale, travelers are in a position to win, not only scoring perks like room upgrades, but lower rates too.

The discounts at Hyatt hotels are for properties in the United States, Canada and Australia and apply to members of its loyalty program, which is free to join at Hyattgoldpassport.com. Members who book directly can now receive up to 10 percent off reservations made through Hyatt.com, its app, call centers and travel agents. The chain also offers a best-rate guarantee. Later this year, guests who book directly will be allowed to make on-demand requests to their hotel through the app. They can also check in online and manage their reservation on their smartphones.

The new rates at Marriott are available more broadly, at over 4,200 hotels worldwide, to loyalty program members (it’s free to join at marriottrewards.com) who book directly on its website, app, call centers or through certain corporate travel professionals. Karin Timpone, Marriott International’s global marketing officer, said in a statement that the company wants “to help dispel the myth that other travel websites offer better rates for our hotels.” If guests find a better rate within 24 hours of booking directly, Marriott will match that rate and offer an additional 25 percent discount.

It was Hilton that led the direct booking charge with its “Stop Clicking Around” marketing campaign, which highlights its new discounts along with other benefits of booking direct and being a member of its rewards program (which is free to join at Hhonors3.hilton.com). For instance, its mobile app allows members to check in, choose their room from a digital floor plan and use a digital key.

Yet it’s not just major chains that are pushing for direct bookings. Independent and boutique hotels are also offering perks to travelers who book directly. Aqua-Aston Hospitality, a hotel management group in Hawaii, for instance, gives $20 daily Starbucks gift cards to guests at its Lite hotels. Some of the group’s other properties, including the Kauai Shores Resort, Aqua Waikiki Pearl, and Ilikai Hotels Suites, give Hawaiian snack baskets, even car rentals, to guests who book directly.

The spike in offers comes at a time when the American Hotel Lodging Association, a trade group based in Washington, D.C., has voiced its opposition to consolidation in the online travel agency business, such as the acquisition last year of Orbitz by Expedia, a deal that was particularly bothersome to hotels, they said, since they paid Expedia commissions that were higher than Orbitz’s. The group has also waged a campaign against deceptive booking sites that are made to look like a hotel’s own website but are not. The Federal Trade Commission has warned that such sites may charge fees, fail to honor guest requests for certain types of rooms and even take travelers’ money without booking a room. These developments aside, there have long been practical reasons to book directly with a hotel.

A few years ago I wrote about how hotels were offering best-rate guarantees to those who booked with them. Direct booking has had other benefits, too, such as upgrades to rooms with better views, free food and drinks, free Wi-Fi, spa credits and a more personalized stay. That’s because any requests you make, like additional pillows, are going straight to the source, as is information about any special occasions you may be celebrating. Nowadays booking directly may also include the ability to check in on your smartphone. Making changes to reservations is often easier or more seamless as well. And of course there is the matter of the hotel’s rewards points. In general, you don’t get them if you book through a third party.

Mark Weinstein, Hilton Worldwide’s global head of customer engagement, loyalty and partnerships, said in a statement that last year 57 billion points (that’s more than 1.6 million free nights, according to Hilton) went unearned because guests booked their stay through a third party. “There is a huge misconception that third parties always offer lower prices for our hotel rooms,” he said, “which is simply not true.”

Planning to study in London? You won’t regret your decision! Universities in London include many of the most prestigious universities in the UK, and the whole world for that matter. Moreover, London is ranked the second best student city in the world, according to the latest edition of the QS Best Student Cities.

Yes, the British capital has it all – from illustrious universities to renowned nightclubs, and from leafy green parks to gleaming skyscrapers. However, international students often struggle to find student accommodation in London. The city has numerous properties to offer, but there are even more people waiting to rent them. Competition is fierce and you need to be prepared, and know where to look in order to find something quickly. Note that London is quite an expensive place to live, and the rent is likely to be much higher than in your home country. Don’t despair; read our guide for some useful tips on how to find student accommodation in London.

Student halls in London

Find accommodationThe most obvious option for students is renting a room in student halls. This has its pros and cons, but overall it is not a bad idea to spend at least one year living like a proper student. Student halls are usually more expensive than the average prices of rooms in shared flats, but they are designed to satisfy every student’s needs. Usually they will have shared facilities and common rooms inside the building, where you can socialize with your peers and meet new people. So living in student halls is a good way to make friends and have a ready-made community, which is very important, especially if you are a foreign student.

There are two types of student halls in London: those which belong to the university, and those which are owned and managed by private companies.

Find accommodationUniversity student halls

University student halls are cheaper than those within the private sector. The good thing about them is that they are usually in or near the university campus, which means you won’t need to travel far or be late in the morning. It’s very convenient living close to university, with constant access to the facilities it offers. Note that the number of rooms within these halls is less than the number of students enrolled, so if you want to secure a room, you need to apply as soon as possible!

Private student halls

Find accommodationIf for some reason you missed the deadline for the university student halls, you also have the option of living in a privately managed one. These are more expensive, but they may also offer better conditions and a wider selection of locations. Moreover, they are home to students from different universities, so you’ll have the chance to mix with an even wider selection of people. Here are some of the most popular private student halls in London:

  • APT Student Living – Located in Wembley, neighboring the famous Wembley Stadium and about 20 minutes from the city center on public transport, APT Student Living offers a selection of modern apartments and studio flats. Note that the shared flats are reserved for students enrolled at the University of Westminster, so those studying at other universities in London can only apply for the studio flats. These include a double bed, en suite bathroom and small kitchen. Prices for the studio flats start from £208 (approx. US$340) per week (including bills).
  • Victoria Hall – Victoria Hall is one of the largest private student halls in London, and the company also provides accommodation in other British cities. Its London halls consist of three buildings, located in different parts of the capital. Dashwood Studios (£225pw) and Paris Gardens (£215-409pw) are both located in Zone 1 (the central area of the city), which means they are more expensive due. The third building is situated in Wembley, close to Wembley Park Tube Station. The prices there are about £160-227pw (approx. US$260-370).
  • Independent Student Living (ISL) – This recently established student hall is located in West Hampstead, a calm yet still fairly central location within Zone 2. Independent Student Living is home to more than 300 students from a mixture of universities in London. You can either choose a room in a shared flat, or a self-contained studio. Prices range between £199-319pw (approx. US$325-525).

House/flat shares in London

Find accommodationAlternatively to living in student halls, you may rent a room in a house or flat share – one of the most common types of accommodation in London, for both students and workers. Prices for rooms in a shared house or flat vary depending on the living conditions and location. Rooms in Zone 1 are highly overpriced, so it’s advisable to look for something situated between Zone 2 and 4, in a location with good transport links to your university campus.

There are lots of websites you can use to search for house or flat shares in London (see the list of useful links below), and you can also opt to use the services of a real estate agency. However, note that those require more documents than going directly through the landlord, and will also charge you extra agency fees.

Think very carefully about what you want, plan accordingly and go to as many viewings as possible. If you are unable to attend viewings yourself, ask a friend or a relative who lives in London to do it for you. This is very important, as often the rooms look nothing like the pictures posted on the internet. Never agree to rent a room without seeing it first!

Documents required

Find accommodationThe documents required to rent a room may vary depending on various factors. If you book your room directly from the landlord, s/he will usually require much less than an agency would. However, be very careful when contacting landlords and always ask for a written contract. If you decide to use the services of an agency, the documents you will need to provide are: references, which prove that you are enrolled at a university or you have a job in London; UK guarantor form (a UK resident who agrees to pay your rent if you fail to do so); references from previous landlords (if applicable); bank statement; signed rental contract. Note that most private house and flat shares in London require you to pay a deposit equal to one month’s rent (which you will receive back at the end of your contract), in addition to one month’s rent in advance. Other documents and fees may apply depending on the real estate agency or the specific landlord.

Useful links

Find accommodationHere is a list of some useful websites which list advertisements of available rooms, houses and flat shares in London. Note that some of the ads in these websites may be scams; always proceed with caution.

How to Find a Cheap Hotel Room: Sites to Use and to

How to Find a Cheap Hotel Room: Sites to Use and Sites to Avoid

July 20, 2017 / By NomadicMatt

How to find cheap hotels

How to Find Cheap Hotels

Hotels regularly sell their under booked rooms for less than their standard price. The Internet is flush with hotel discount websites, so it can be difficult to know which service is listing the lowest price. Although the Internet is still the best place to look for big deals on hotel rooms, you can use all these tools to get the biggest discount.

From there it evolved into Hilton Worldwide, an international hospitality company that today boasts 4,820 properties in 100 different countries.

How to Find a Cheap Hotel Room: Sites to Use and to

How to Find a Cheap Hotel Room: Sites to Use and Sites to Avoid

July 20, 2017 / By NomadicMatt

Our Guide To Cheap Hotels In NYC

Thousands of people fly into New York on any given day. In fact, London to New York is the world’s busiest intercontinental route! With three nearby major airports (JFK International, Newark International, and LaGuardia), Travelocity flights are competitive and easy to come by from nearly any city in the world. And thanks to extensive public transit options, getting to your hotel is a breeze.

What to Know When You Land

Transportation: Between the subway and buses, you can get anywhere you want to go—the A line alone runs 31 miles through Manhattan and Queens. And if you’re carrying a lot of luggage, we recommend a taxi. It won’t come cheap, but it can be worth it, especially when you’ve saved cash with our cheap hotels in NYC. No matter what you choose, remember this: Leave yourself some extra time. New Yorkers may walk fast, but their public transportation doesn’t always keep up.

Wi-Fi Hot Spots: Fashion and food aren’t enough—New York is now leading the world when it comes to public Wi-Fi, too. Settle in with a latte at Bryant Park, Battery Park, or Prospect Park and plan out your itinerary without using all your data. What about Central Park, you ask? It’s too large to cover the whole park, but there are eight hotspots scattered throughout, and a Google search can help you find them.

These Boots Were Made for Walking: Even if you’re not in a hurry, a comfortable pair of shoes will be your best friend in this city. From strolling through Central Park to wandering amongst the paintings at the Museum of Modern Art, using your feet is a must. Got a fancy dinner date? Take a page from the classic New Yorker playbook: throw those stilettos in your purse and wear flats until you arrive.

Climate Conditions

Four Seasons isn’t just a top luxurious New York hotel—it’s also the climate of this northeastern U.S. city. Summers are warm and may be humid; winters are chilly and can be snowy. In autumn, the air is crisp, the leaves are changing, and the temperatures are sweater-perfect. However, depending on what you’re looking for, New York is always on. During the holiday season, the Rockefeller Center tree glitters with thousands of lights as ice skaters twirl below. In the summer, roof decks open and an exuberant vibe is felt throughout the city.

Top 3 Things to Do in NYC

1. St. Bart’s Church (1 block from Waldorf Astoria New York)

Also known by its long name—Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church—this historic place of worship has existed since 1835 as skyscrapers and corporate buildings grew up around it. Visit between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to tour the impressive Byzantine and Romanesque architecture, attend an organ recital or concert, or just enjoy the peace and quiet of this oasis in the heart of the city.

2. Intrepid Museum (1 mile from Row NYC hotel)

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is here to offer visitors an experience that’s a little bit different. After all, this wouldn’t be the greatest city on earth if it didn’t have offerings as diverse as its residents—and visitors. Admire a real space shuttle, submarine, and even an aircraft carrier at one of America’s best museums of its kind.

3. Statue of Liberty (6 miles from Roosevelt Hotel)

If you’re feeling patriotic after learning about American innovation at the Intrepid Museum, make this iconic landmark your next stop. In fact, make it a stop no matter what. Ferry your way over from Battery Park, NY or Liberty State Park, NJ and make the 354-step climb to the crown. A stop at Ellis Island is worth the time, as well.

We’re glad you’re so excited about planning your trip to the “Big Apple,” traveler. But you’ll need a place to lay your head after such busy days, and we can help with that. Whether you’re looking for a total splurge or cheap hotels, NYC delivers. Book here on Travelocity, and you’ll find everything you need, all in one place. Except those comfy walking shoes, of course. Be sure to pack them separately.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation

Find cheap hotelsJay Pritzker s 1957 purchase of the Hyatt House at Los Angeles International Airport facilitated the growth of the hotel, which is today a multinational company that owns and operates numerous resorts, hotels, and vacation properties.

InterContinental Hotels Group

Find cheap hotelsInterContinental Hotels Group PLC, also called IHG, is a global hotel company that houses well-known brands like Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, and their own brand, InterContinental.
