Accommodation In Hong Kong

The seemingly small seaside territory of Hong Kong is brimming with gorgeous beaches, busy metropolises and opulent historic sites. In this hub for international commerce and arts, dip into new flavours and experience different cultures at every turn. From quiet temple gardens to bustling night markets and excellent entertainment, “The Fragrant Harbour” promises the perfect holiday, with fabulous hotels in Hong Kong near every must-see sight on your itinerary.

Wotif makes it easy and affordable to book accommodation in Hong Kong in top hot spots, like the harbour-front Central District or quiet hideaways on Lantau Island. Start planning your next adventure and let us take care of the rest.

Things to Do in Hong Kong

Book hotels in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour for access to the mainland and island towns. In the nearby Mid-Levels neighbourhood, immerse yourself in the flora and fauna of the region at Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens, a lush oasis among the high-rises. From that vantage point, enjoy the stellar view of Hong Kong’s unmistakable skyline.

When night falls, make sure you’re on the north side of the harbour for people-watching while chowing down on sweet and savoury treats at the Temple Street Market. Further north, slow the pace at the towering Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery near the banks of the Shing Mun River.

But if hanging out with your favourite mouse in red trousers is what you’re all about, then book your Hong Kong Disneyland® Park Admission with Transfer and queue up for fun!

Getting To & Around Hong Kong

Once you’ve arrived in Hong Kong, you’ll have ample public transport at your command, including ferry rides across the bay. For quick commutes to top Hong Kong hotels, ride the rails on commuter trains and the subway, or hop on a double-decker bus. The city’s transport networks are some of the most intricate and famous in the world, which makes navigating the island an adventure in its own right. Whether you’re travelling from Australia or by way of another international location, flights to Hong Kong are just the start of something great.

Upcoming Events

Sure, the mild weather and international fusion of cultures keep Hong Kong hopping even without an official party, but there are plenty of those, too! And as summer breezes into Hong Kong, so do fantastic festivals and events. From June through August, Hong Kong is carving out some serious time to celebrate one of the local pastimes—shopping till dropping and then shopping some more. Enveloping Fashion Week, the Hong Kong Summer Spectacular is the time to treat yo’self!

Fancy yourself to be more of a minimalist? Well, the Hungry Ghost Festival, which runs for the entire month of August, may be more your style. To prevent tormented ghosts from bringing misery to the living, locals dance and burn their earthly possessions in the streets, and eat some of the best food in Hong Kong. Sounds like quite the party!

Get Outside!

Sure, Hong Kong has a built-up landscape and includes its fair share of concrete and high-rises. But when the locals need a moment of Zen, they have loads of green space to choose from. Away from the fray, on the north side of Kowloon, is Diamond Hill: a peaceful oasis on the edge of a city brimming with cat cafes and a full-size replica of Noah’s Ark. Atop Diamond Hill, Nan Lian Garden is home to lovely pagodas and streams. You might forget that you’re still in the middle of a huge metropolis. If that happens, just look up. The surrounding skyscrapers will put things in perspective!

If you really, really want to escape on this big city getaway, then take the ferry out to Lantau Country Park on Lantau Island. Ride a sky tram over acres of wilderness, interrupted only by the regal presence of the Big Buddha. Hey, he makes everything more chill. And at over 34m high, he’s also the tallest likeness of the renowned prophet—and he’s not even standing up. Score beachy Hong Kong hotel deals on the coast of Lantau to savour the quiet side of the city. Yes, there is a quiet side.

Must-See Spots

If you had just one day in Hong Kong (or even one year), that wouldn’t be enough time to see, taste and do everything that makes this city awesome. But after climbing Victoria Peak for a breath of fresh air and fabulous view, the best place to put yourself “in the thick of it” is between the towering urban guesthouses and flats of Chungking Mansions. These enormous high-rises aren’t the sprawling estates you might expect from the word “mansions”, but they are the real Hong Kong, where locals live and shop and tower over the city.

Dim sum isn’t just something you see in Hong Kong—the real goal is to eat as many of these delightful dumplings and finger foods as you can. Many restaurants serve this easy-to-eat treat from wheeled carts as diners point at whatever strikes their fancy, while other venues appeal to the planners among us with menus—turnip cakes taste delicious no matter how they get to your plate. By the way, it’s OK to laugh and cry when you open the steam baskets to reveal prawns and veggies wrapped in cosy dough—“dim sum” literally means “touch your heart”. So go ahead and eat your feelings. You can sleep off the food coma in our Hong Kong accommodation.

On the lookout for the best places to stay in Hong Kong for great prices? Score unbeatable deals on airfares and accommodation when you book Hong Kong holidays with Wotif. Book now to start your adventure!

Enclosed by the Pearl River Delta and the South China Sea as well as a plethora of skyscrapers, Hong Kong is often known as one of the most expensive cities in the world for travelers. However, with a little knowledge as provided in this guide, you can save money on accommodation and still be in the thick of it all.

From budget hostels like the Check Inn or beautiful private bedrooms on Airbnb, all the way up to luxurious accommodations like the Conrad, you ll have plenty of options to choose from. This guide will help you save some money so you can spend it on the world-class food, nightlife, and shopping that Hong Kong has to offer.

Save Money by Avoiding Holidays and Busy Times

One of the most expensive things about Hong Kong is accommodation and coming at a time when many others also arrive will put you in a tight spot. Due to the influx of Chinese tourists, it s best to avoid the peak Chinese holidays of Golden week, which begin on both May 1 st and October 1 st . Chinese New Year is another holiday to avoid if you re looking for cheaper hotel rates, and business conventions and fairs can also make things expensive, which usually run in spring and autumn. For specific business convention information, you re best to research before you go. In terms of budget accommodation and hotel deals, the best time for visiting Hong Kong is in the summer and winter months.

Transportation Options from the Airport

There are many ways to get into the city center from Hong Kong s International Airport with the most popular option being the Airport Express service. The Airport Express is the quickest way into the city, making only three stops along the way including Kowloon and Hong Kong. Though the Airport Express is fast (just 24 minutes to Hong Kong station), it isn t that cheap at a cost of $13 one-way. Families can save money by buying an Airport Express group pass. The trains leave every 10 minutes between 5:54 A.M. and 12:45 A.M.

If you take the Airport Express but don t want to be left at the LRT station, there is a free shuttle bus that takes you to various major hotels including Island Shangri-La, Pacific Place, Holiday Inn Express SOHO, and many more. These shuttle buses leave regularly, arriving and departing every 20 minutes. If your hotel is not on the list, the quickest option is to take a taxi.

Alternatively, several other stored-value tickets are available for non-Hong Kong residents who will be in Hong Kong fewer than 14 days. For about $40, the Airport Express Travel Pass is good for three days of unlimited travel and includes a round-trip ticket to and from the airport on the Airport Express Line. For $30, the card includes just one trip to or from the airport.

Another option is the airport bus, which is cheaper than the Airport Express. Bus service takes longer than the train but it also has more drop-off points, which means you might get closer to your hotel or other accommodation. Expect a one-hour trip to reach Hong Kong with a cost of $5. Children pay just half price.

Taxis reach Hong Kong but are typically the most expensive option with a cost of approximately $40. While this is the most direct route, it is not always the fastest due to traffic and other conditions.

Getting Around the City

Hong Kong has an extremely efficient public transit system that takes you practically anywhere you would want to go. Public transportation includes subways, buses, ferries, taxis and trams.

If you re planning on visiting Hong Kong for a few days, consider purchasing an Octopus pass. This electronic card allows you to hop on and off all forms of public transportation without carrying loose change. The Octopus card can be bought at all subway stations as well as at the airport for a cost of approximately $20 (including a $6 refundable deposit). Children and seniors will pay less. Another option is the Tourist Day Pass, which allows one day of LRT travel within the city for just $7.

Coming to Hong Kong for Business

Hong Kong is a popular business city and there s no shortage of business hotels. While choosing the location of a hotel will likely come down to where your meetings are taking place, staying anywhere downtown will put you close to all the attractions, shopping, restaurants, and nightlife you could want.

While there are no budget hotels in Hong Kong with business class, there are some mid-range options including 99 Bonham Strand Boutique Hotel Apartment, which has one of the best locations in the entire city as well as the Holiday Inn Express, which is located in the popular SOHO district of the city. Other options include Butterfly on Wellington and the Courtyard by Marriott Sha Tin.

For those looking for luxury, Hong Kong has plenty to offer. Consider L hotel elan, which won a traveler s choice award with TripAdvisor or Hotel Indigo, which has a rooftop bar with excellent views of the city. Another popular option is the W Hong Kong with its rooftop infinity pool or the Landmark Mandarin Oriental, which is located right in the business hub and has a very luxurious spa.

Airbnb is a Better Option than Cheap Hotels

Hong Kong is a great city for using Airbnb to find budget accommodations. Private bedrooms can be found for as low as $60 near central Hong Kong and staying in the Yau Tsim Mong area can drop prices further. Due to the high volume of visitors Hong Kong receives throughout the year, many Airbnb listings have dozens of reviews, which help you make a quality choice. Considering Hong Kong hotels start at $90 and rise quickly, this is a great way to save some money.

Solo Travelers Save Big with Hostels

For solo travelers, a hostel is often a better option than cheap Hong Kong hotels. If staying in a dorm-style room is an option, you can expect to pay around $30 and still be in a desirable location, although you might be bunking with as many as nine people or more. If you want a private room the price jumps to $60 or more. Popular hostels include the Yesinn Causeway Bay and Check Inn Hong Kong, which are both located close to the LRT.

A Plethora of Sights and Activities

Known by many as Asia s World City, Hong Kong packs a serious punch of sights and activities. Although most people think of Hong Kong as a concrete jungle, it s actually surrounded by beautiful mountains and rocky islands allowing you to explore a little bit of nature next to one of the world s great cities.

Without a doubt, the most popular activity in the city is Victoria Peak — the best place for witnessing the impressive skyline that Hong Kong is famous for. The panoramic view from the top is so iconic that missing it would be like missing the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Plan to arrive an hour or so before sunset so that you can see the city at both day and night. Another iconic activity to do is the Star Ferry, which takes you from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon. Although the ferry ride is just eight minutes, it s a great way to see the harbor and is quite possibly the cheapest thing to do in the city at just 28 cents.

While looking at the vast city of Hong Kong from many angels is entertaining, getting educated on its past will make it come alive. For a look into its history, stop by the impressive Hong Kong Museum of History located in the Kowloon district and see why travelers rave about this fantastic museum.

With all of the activities keeping you active throughout your stay, you re likely to work up an appetite and Hong Kong is a great place to try the local flavors. One of the most famous local eateries is Lin Heung Tea House, which serves authentic food in a decades-old parlor. While it can be busy, it s worth the wait.

When you ve had enough of the hustle and bustle and begin craving some nature, head to Lantau Island where you ll find a giant statue of Buddha and many short hiking trails. The gondola that brings you there offers impressive views of the sea, mountains, and airport, adding to the experience. If hiking isn t your thing, consider finding a group of travelers and renting a junk (a motorized pleasure vessel) and exploring some of the 260 islands that makes up the archipelago.

Attractions here include massive shopping districts and malls, endless lanes of food stalls for foodies, picturesque trails for hiking and nature lovers and breathtaking views of the countryside that makes up most of Hong Kong.

Things to see in Hong Kong Exploring the natural landscape that makes up most of Hong Kong is one of the open secrets here. Hiking and camping is a great way to appreciate the city’s mountains, beaches and remarkable cityscapes. Travelers seeking to escape the bustling city can try out at least four major hiking trails: Lantau Trail on Lantau, Hong Kong Trail on Hong Kong island, Maclehose Trail in the New Territories and Wilson Trail that links Hong Kong island and the New Territories.

Shopaholics will find that there is almost no end to the options available here. The already passionate shopping scene is fueled by no sales tax, and the countless shops offering competitive prices is enough to convert any non-shopper. Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon and Causeway Bay are two of the more popular shopping destinations for fashion, though you can find malls all over the city.

Hotels in Hong Kong Hong Kong’s accommodation scene is highly developed and varied, but it is by no means cheap. Nevertheless, it is still possible to find accommodation deals on our website. Most places are linked by an excellent public transport system, so no worries about getting around. Budget accommodation usually gets you just a bed, and if you’re a light sleeper, maybe getting a room would be a good investment.

Where to stay If you like getting in the thick of a bustling city, then Kowloon would be a good choice. There is a dazzling array of options when it comes to places for shopping, eating and sleeping. Accommodation options include backpackers hostels and luxury hotels. A place like the Kowloon Waterfront offers a splendid, classic view of Hong Kong, something no visitors should miss out on.

Visitors looking for a little less city and a little more nature can explore staying in Lantau, where attractions like Inspiration Lake and Tian Tan Buddha are sure to inspire awe during your sightseeing treks. Hikers will also find the 70 km Lantau trail that can be done in sections. Accommodation options here are guesthouses, hostels and campsites so don’t expect much luxury here.

How to get to Hong Kong If you’re coming in by air, Hong Kong International Airport is the main gateway. The airport is well equipped and provides shopping opportunities within its two terminals. The Airport Express train is probably the most efficient way of getting into the city from the airport, with stops in Tsing Yi and Kowloon. The ride is only slightly above 20 minutes. If you’re coming in from Macau, then there are ferry services every 5 to 30 minutes, 24 hours a day.

Hospice care affordable for most Singaporeans: Chee Hong Tat

SINGAPORE: The Health Ministry does not require Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) to cover hospice care as an expansion of benefits will result in higher premiums. Minister of State for Health, Chee Hong Tat said this in Parliament on Monday (May 9), adding that IPs, together with MediShield Life, are designed to cover large hospital bills.

In response to a question from MP for Jurong GRC Dr Tan Wu Meng, Mr Chee said that hospice care is covered under some riders such as Great Eastern’s Total Health Riders and AXA’s Home Care Riders. He added that hospice care is affordable for most Singaporeans, based on his ministry’s data, when combined with government subsidies, Medisave and charity dollars. He highlighted that eight in 10 inpatient hospice bills did not have any out-of-pocket cash payment, while nine in 10 home palliative care patients did not have to fork out cash either.

Dr Tan asked about patients who fall under the ‘sandwiched class’- who may not qualify for as many government subsidies as patients from low income households, but who still want to take advantage of benefits provided by their IPs, which they purchased while still healthy. He asked whether the MOS would agree that the present system “makes it somewhat unfortunate that these patients can access their Integrated Shield Plan benefits in a restructured hospital, but not should they choose to seek end-of-life care at an inpatient hospice?”

In response, Mr Chee said government subsidies for hospice care are extended up to the 67 th percentile. Apart from subsidies, he said charity dollars are also an important source of support for patients. He said the government works closely with voluntary welfare organisations and charities in this area. Mr Chee reiterated that there are riders available but importantly, MediShield Life is a new scheme that started in November last year.

He said, ”It is important for us to focus the scheme on the original intent which it was set out to do, which is to cover large hospital bills. This is something we can review on an ongoing basis, to ensure MediShield Life is able to meet the needs of Singaporeans”.

    Hong Kong Visa Requirements #travel #to #hong #kong #visa

    #

Do I Need a Hong Kong Visa?

Many people ask do I need a visa for Hong Kong? as they are confused about the difference between Hong Kong and China. The Hong Kong visa system is almost exactly the same as under British rule ten years ago, and wholly separate to the Chinese visa system.

Hong Kong treasures its place as an international hub of business, and top tourist destination. As such, it strives to make visa regulations as relaxed and simple as possible.

Nationals of the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand don’t require a visa to enter Hong Kong for stays of 90 days, and six months for UK nationals. You will need six months validity on your passport. For a list of requirements for all countries see the Hong Kong Immigration Department website .

Immigration officials in HK all speak English and the whole process is designed to be as painless as possible, which it is. You will need to fill out an entry card on arrival, usually handed out on the plane. The entry card is given to immigration control, who will hand you back the carbon copy. This should be kept until you leave Hong Kong, as it needs to be given to immigration control, although if lost, you will simply need to fill out a new one.

Hong Kong officially states that you need a return ticket to visit the city, although in practice this is almost never enforced. Stating your intention to travel onwards to China is proof enough.

Although we certainly don’t advocate evading immigration controls for work purpose, if you need more than ninety days in the city, you can easily leave to Macau for the day and receive a further ninety days on your return.

If you plan to work or study in the city, you ll need to apply for a visa from your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate at the Hong Kong section.

    #

What’s not better than spending a relaxing weekend in Gold Coast Hotel with a full sea view? The hotel is very busy especially over the weekend as you can see travellers and locals are all gathering at the lobby with lots of greens and flowers!

Though there is short line for customers to check-in, the staff is very patient, efficient, and definitely very helpful towards any needs. In no time, we have got our keys to our lucky room on 8th floor!

The corridor feels new, clean, and with a good smell. The carpet is clean, the light is bright with a warm matching colour tone. Each room is not too close to either other and we found that the noise isolation is just perfect throughout our visit!

This Deluxe Seaview Room is very spacious with a big firm bed that might be enough for 4 people! The room is also equipped with the standards including chairs, study table, big flat TV, fridge, and more.

The marble themed bathroom gives a luxurious vibe and very well equipped with all the necessary amenities, clean and fluffy towels, clean floor and bright light. The shower is nice and hot with high pressure which could act like a massage to your body.

The full sea view is just pleasantly relaxing. By looking at the yachts, it makes you feel like you can almost own one of them! Stop dreaming! The beach is just about 10 mins walk on the left side of the hotel, while a weekend market is another 10 mins walk on the right side of the hotel. The beach is very long with lots of life guards while the weekend market changes from time to time mainly selling different fun little things for kids or big kids!

The mini bar is stocked with some beer, soft drinks, while complimentary tea, coffee, and bottled water are also provided as refreshments. A secure safe is on the left for you to put your valuables when you go out for swimming or any other activities.

Their room service is just nice, quick, and thoughtful, we actually requested some wine glasses and ice buckets and the hotel really cooperated nicely with clean and nice utensils as we asked for!

My third time here and am still happy about the place. Rooms are updating fast and i hope to see all rooms with newer facilities and furniture. Loved the sea view room with a balcony.

The nearby beach is incredibly dirty now and it is recommended not to swim in there at all. Stick with the hotel’s swimming pool and that would be just fine!

    Best Hong Kong Hotels

A warren of people-filled pavements, jam-packed elevated walkways, canteen crammed streets, and towering skyscrapers, Hong Kong’s a full-on city that bustles 24/7. Designer shops jostle for attention alongside high street names in the city’s modern malls, traditional dim sum eateries fight for custom with street vendors brewing brisket beef soup, and market traders clamour and clatter as they try to sell wares. There’s also fine food to be had at top notch restaurants and a pumping party atmosphere to enjoy as the sky darkens.

Hong Kong’s Ferry Terminal is a bustling transport hub where ferries take passengers from the mainland to the island, boats bound for the islands bob along the rippling waters, and cruise ships dock for the day. It’s here you can take a ride on the iconic Star Ferry, a must-do when in town, and gaze back at the dazzling Hong Kong skyline with its striking skyscrapers, high-rise hotels, and towering apartment blocks. For a different view of the city, take the tram to the wok-shaped Victoria Peak Tower where the vistas are unbeatable. You can shop, eat, and drink here too at its modern mall. For evening entertainment, Soho’s steep, lively streets can’t be beaten. Ride the outdoor elevator past flashing neon-signage, buzzing bars, and crammed restaurants before jumping off when a place to party catches your eye. For a day of family-fun, the expansive Ocean Park is the place to be. Buckle up on thrill-inducing rides, marvel at marine life, and catch an animal show here.

    Hotels in Hong Kong

The city may be pretty compact, but there’s no shortage of places to stay in Hong Kong. As well as its landmark luxury pads, of which there are many, you’ll also find plenty of mid-range accommodation here. Most of these will offer convenient amenities like flat-screen televisions, WiFi, and tea and coffee making facilities. With space in the crammed city at a premium, cheap hotels in Hong Kong are often pretty small, but provide an affordable base to explore the city’s many sights.

A stay in Hong Kong’s Central district will put you in the heart of the city where soaring skyscrapers loom large, modern malls buzz with shoppers, and steam-filled canteens fill with hungry diners. It’s here you’ll also find Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour with its ferries to the mainland and islands. Wan Chai is a party hotspot in the evenings and very lively, while Causeway Bay’s well geared to families with some of the city’s biggest shopping malls and the lush green of Victoria Park. For cheap hotels in Hong Kong, mainland Kowloon often offers the most affordable pads and is just a short ferry ride from all the island action.

Hong Kong International Airport’s a major transport hub and the most likely gateway for those arriving by air. You can reach the city center using the quick and efficient Airport Express train which takes just 24 minutes to Central Station. For a more scenic, and cheaper, journey into the city center, there are plenty of bus services which connect the city and airport via the Tsing Ma suspension bridge and offer sweeping views of Lantau Island.

    Hong Kong Hotels

A buzzing hub of people and culture, Hong Kong is often described as being the meeting point of East and West, thanks to its past as a British colony. Now one of the world’s most important economies, the city is full of fascinating and impressive contemporary architecture and skyscrapers, and a stay in a cheap hotel in Hong Kong is the ideal way to see the wonders of this incredible destination.

    Breathtaking views

Perhaps the best way to experience the full scope of Hong Kong is by taking in the view from Victoria Peak. The largest mountain in the area, you can catch a tram to the peak, and admire the grand 19 th century houses, or the gourmet dining at one of Victoria Peak’s restaurants; we love the meeting of old and new Chinese cuisine at Tien Yi.

    Serious shopping

Hong Kong has earned itself the nickname “shopping paradise” for its long history as a trading port, and for its mix of traditional markets and fashionable flagship stores. Cat Street is the place to go for antiques and local crafts, while at Causeway Bay you’ll find brands like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, and with the city’s low tax rate you can use the money you’ve saved by booking into a cheap hotel in Hong Kong to pick up some real bargains.

    Bright Lights and wild nights

Hong Kong might look like an ultra-modern city, but there’s still a real sense of cultural identity among its people. Cantonese opera started to emerge in Hong Kong in the 1950s, and its magnificent and moving combination of music, theatre, martial arts and acrobatics can be seen at the landmark Sunbeam Theatre .

Throughout the year, a number of traditional Chinese festivals are held in Hong Kong, including the spectacular Dragon Boat Festival. where elaborately decorated rowboats are raced around the city’s waterways, and with the New Year festivities taking over the city for 15 days, a stay at a hotel in Hong Kong is a must for experiencing the exciting parades, delicious foods and firework displays.

Or, for something a bit more uniquely Hong Kong, check out the Symphony of Lights. where lights and lasers illuminate the buildings of Victoria Harbour every night. This impressive display has been certified by the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest permanent sound and light show.

    Island hopping

Found on an island where the Pearl River meets the South China Sea, it’s easy to escape bustling central Hong Kong for the tranquillity of spots like the South Bay Beach and Big Wave Bay. and among the diverse selection of Hong Kong hotels are a number of relaxing beachfront resorts. It’s also worth investigating Hong Kong’s neighbouring island, as each has its own character, and by catching a ferry from the city’s harbour, you can see sights like the turtles nesting on Lamma island. and the glitzy casinos of Macau.
