American International Group Inc. said it has named Peter Zaffino as its new chief operating officer, effective August 1. Zaffino comes to the role from Marsh LLC, a unit of insurance brokerage Marsh McLennan Cos. Inc. where he was chief executive. Zaffino has also done stints at Guy Carpenter Co. and at a GE Capital portfolio company. He will have a base salary of $1.25 million, a short-term annual bonus target of $3 million and an annual long-term incentive award of $4.25 million. The executive will also receive a signing-on bonus of $15 million, partly in the form of stock options. AIG shares were slightly lower premarket, but are down 3.8% in 2017, while the S P 500 has gained 8.7%.

American International Group Ltd. Hamilton Insurance Group Ltd. and Two Sigma Insurance Quantified LP, a unit of Two Sigma Investments LP, said Monday they have entered a memorandum of understanding to expand their partnership with the aim of boosting their role in data-driven underwriting. As part of the deal, AIG has agreed in principle to acquire Hamilton USA, the U.S. platform of Hamilton Insurance. The companies will expand the target market of their Attune platform, which they launched in September 2016 to serve the U.S. small to medium-sized commercial insurance market. Attune will now target companies with annual revenue of up to $35 million, a market the companies estimate is worth up to $150 billion in annual gross written premiums. AIG and Two Sigma will enter a partnership to advance the latter s data science and technology for AIG s commercial insurance business. Hamilton Re and AIG will enter a reinsurance partnership, in which Hamilton Re will participate in more of AIG s ceded reinsurance. Putting data science and technology to work in our industry has been on my agenda for some time, said AIG s new Chief Executive Officer Brian Duperreault, founder and ex-CEO of Hamilton Insurance. AIG shares were not yet active premarket, but have gained 23% in 2017, while the S P 500 has gained 7%.

Structure and content

The course includes six compulsory modules, two optional modules and a dissertation. The taught elements of the course run over two academic years. Master’s students are then expected to carry out a Research Project, starting in October and ending in May, and to submit a 12,000-word Dissertation.

Delivery and assessment

Course materials will be delivered in a number of formats. The primary teaching materials are the original course contents presented in each of the modules. Each module is divided into a number of topics. This material will be available via Succeed, the University of Stirling’s chosen online learning environment. All the topics for a module will usually be available at the start of each module. This content is originally-produced material, written by the course team especially for this course. As well as core materials, module contents include reading lists of additional sources of information students can use to supplement their studying. Assessments include essays, project work, and reports.

Students coming on the course who wish to familiarise themselves with the basic concepts of public relations should read Tench, R. Yeomans, L. (Eds.). (2009). Exploring public relations (2nd ed.). Harlow, Essex: Pearson Education Ltd.

We suggest that all students buy Heath, R. (Ed.). (2010). The SAGE handbook of public relations (2nd ed.). Thousand Oaks: Sage. This text covers a wide range of theory, research and practice in the field of public relations and will be of great use throughout the course.

The timetable below is a typical example, but your own timetable may be different.

The first two years of the course run from October until May, with breaks at Christmas and Easter. During this time students are expected to complete three modules in Year 1 and three modules in Year 2 – a total of six modules. The final seven months are devoted to the preparation of a 12,000-word Dissertation presenting an independent piece of research conducted by the student.

There is a three-day residential school every year and students are required to attend at least one during the course of their studies. It is estimated that around ten to twelve hours a week studying is required while studying a module.

    • Hillsborough Community College. HCC is a public, two-year community college offering primarily Associate degrees and certificates. Programs are designed with a mind for transfer to four-year institutions or workforce entry, depending on the discipline.The NCES reports that HCC’s total 2013-2014 enrollment exceeded 26,500. Total cost of tuition and fees that year was $2,506 for in-state students and $9,111 for out-of-state students.
    • University of Tampa. The University of Tampa is a private, not-for-profit institution offering Bachelor’s degrees, Master’s degrees and post-master’s certificates. The NCES reports a total 2013-2014 enrollment of just under 7,300 students, most of whom were undergraduates.     The 8s are slightly further up the food chain than the 6s, but there are good and bad examples of both. Tripadvisor is your friend. Impossible to generalize about rates however as each hotel’s location will drive cost, as will demand on the night(s) you stay.

    Others to consider that are in the same bracket would be Red Roof Inn, Econolodge and there are probably others. Consistency of quality control is very poor in these chains so your experiences will vary a lot from one to another.

    At the rest stops, there are usually motel books with coupons. Sometimes you can get some Hampton or Fairields for 59 bucks plus tax. Nice hot tubs and breakfast.

    If you are planning on doing some sight seeing and can plan, try Priceline and or Hotwire. I booked the Doubletree Hotel in PA in July for $65 a night and the Westin in Arlington for 113. You can usually get Holiday Inn for 50 bucks (start at 35 in remote places). But you must plan and you must arrive on a certain date. If you bring a laptop, you can stop by wireless gas stations or rest stops and try to book ahead of yourself. These hotels are MUCH nicer than the Motel 8, but require some planning.

    Another cheapo way to go is to use the KOA cabins. It all depends on how much you want to see and do on your trip. Might as well see some stuff. The National Parks in Southern Utah, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Devils Tower, Rushmore, Crazy Horse are all pretty cool.

    The Hotel check in is fast and friendly. The car parking is more than adequate for the hotel an always has plenty of spaces.

    The rooms are really nicely decorated an the atmosphere is relaxing, the beds are huge for doubles and so nice to sleep on. The bathroom is equally nicely set out and the shower is really powerful which is great.

    The food is of a high standard both the breakfast and the food served in the restaurant and bar at night, the breakfast is an buffet style of both traditional English and Continental with Meats and Cheeses, Fresh Bread rolls, Pastries, Cereals and Fruit juice’s. The English breakfast has the usual Bacon, Beans, Eggs either Fried or Scrambled, Mushrooms, Hash Browns Sausages with either a fresh pot of Tea or Coffee.

    The evening Menu for the restaurant and bar are very well thought out, I must have tried almost every meal. The food is cooked and presented to a very high standard and quality. An all can be washed down with a good drink from the bar of what ever you like.

    I did use the room service whilst I was there a few nights, I only ordered sandwiches and a desert. All was presented well and it all tasted great. The room service does come with a £4 tray charge but for the quality of the food I think is a reasonable charge. The food was delivered to my room really promptly an the staff members were always happy an sorted any issues out very quickly.

    All that said I would highly recommend The Ashford International Hotel to anyone either heading to the continent or coming into the UK for a visit.

    Scholarships for International Students at University of Turin in Italy, 2017-2018

    The University of Turin is pleased to offer 15 two-year scholarships to deserving international students willing to enrol in UniTO for the first year of a second cycle degree.

    The University of Turin is today one of the largest Italian Universities, open to international research and training. It carries out scientific research and organises courses in all disciplines, except for Engineering and Architecture.

    Applications will be evaluated on the basis of the GRE (Revised General Test) test results. If applicants don’t have a GRE test result, they cannot apply for the scholarship.

    Course Level: Scholarships are awarded to study the subjects available at the university.

    Study Subject: Scholarships are available for pursuing master’s programme at the University of Turin.

    Scholarship Award: Each scholarship amounts to 9,000 euros per year, gross of all charges for the beneficiary’s account.

    Scholarship can be taken in Italy

    Eligibility: If applicants have a qualification issued by a foreign High School or University, in order to enrol in a first cycle, second cycle or one long cycle degree course, please read carefully the following instructions:

    • If they are an EU citizen or they are a non-EU citizen already residing in Italy, they must hand in their documents to International students and translations office according to the degree courses’ deadlines they wish to apply for.
    • If they are a non-EU citizen residing abroad and they are not living in Italy, they can enrol according to the specific number of places for international students set by each Departments every year for each degree course. Applicants must submit the application for pre-enrolment to the Italian Embassy (or Italian General Consulate) in their Country, in a period set by the Italian Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca every year.

    The Embassy will send their application form to the University of Turin, that will send back to the Embassy a letter of acceptance letter under condition. This acceptance letter will allow their to apply for the study VISA, which is necessary to come to Italy.
    If they want to enrol in a degree course with a restricted number of places, International students and translations office will be in charge of their r registration for the admission test, according to applications received by Embassies or General Consulates.
    Enrolment will be successfully completed when all the administrative steps have been carried out, including further tests or admission interviews, if required by the Degree course they wish to apply for.

    Nationality: International students can apply for these scholarships.

    College Admission Requirement

    Entrance Requirement: Scholarships are dedicated to students who, apart from their citizenship, have obtained their entrance requirement (first cycle degree or equivalent qualification) abroad from an educational institution working outside the Italian system.

    Test Requirement: Applications will be evaluated on the basis of the GRE (Revised General Test) test results. If they don’t have a GRE test result, they cannot apply for the scholarship. Applicants can send their GRE scores to the University of Turin using UI Code 7417.

    English Language Requirement: Students who gained their high school diploma abroad or from a foreign system school in Italy will be required to attend an Italian language course.

    A firm that has operations in more than one country is known as a multinational corporation (MNC). [1] The largest MNCs are major players within the international arena. Walmart’s annual worldwide sales, for example, are larger than the dollar value of the entire economies of Austria, Norway, and Saudi Arabia. Although Walmart tends to be viewed as an American retailer, the firm earns more than one-quarter of its revenues outside the United States. Walmart owns significant numbers of stores, as of mid-2014, in Mexico (2,207), Brazil (556), Japan (437), the United Kingdom (577), Canada (390), Chile (386), Argentina (105), and China (400). Walmart also participates in joint ventures in China (328 stores) and India (5). Even more modestly sized MNCs are still very powerful. If Kia were a country, its current sales level of approximately $42 billion (in 2012) would place it in the top 75 among the more than 180 nations in the world (Wal-Mart Stores Inc. 2014).

    Multinationals such as Kia and Walmart have chosen an international strategy to guide their efforts across various countries. There are three main international strategies available: (1) multidomestic, (2) global, and (3) transnational (Figure 7.23 International Strategy ). Each strategy involves a different approach to trying to build efficiency across nations while remaining responsive to variations in customer preferences and market conditions.

    Multidomestic Strategy

    A firm using a multidomestic strategy [2] sacrifices efficiency in favor of emphasizing responsiveness to local requirements within each of its markets. Rather than trying to force all of its American-made shows on viewers around the globe, MTV customizes the programming that is shown on its channels within dozens of countries, including New Zealand, Portugal, Pakistan, and India.

    Similarly, food company H. J. Heinz adapts its products to match local preferences. Because some Indians will not eat garlic and onion, for example, Heinz offers them a version of its signature ketchup that does not include these two ingredients.

    Global Strategy

    A firm using a global strategy [3] sacrifices responsiveness to local requirements within each of its markets in favor of emphasizing efficiency. This strategy is the complete opposite of a multidomestic strategy. Some minor modifications to products and services may be made in various markets, but a global strategy stresses the need to gain economies of scale by offering essentially the same products or services in each market.

    Microsoft, for example, offers the same software programs around the world but adjusts the programs to match local languages. Similarly, consumer goods maker Procter Gamble attempts to gain efficiency by creating global brands whenever possible. Global strategies also can be very effective for firms whose product or service is largely hidden from the customer’s view, such as silicon chip maker Intel. For such firms, variance in local preferences is not very important.

    Transnational Strategy

    A firm using a transnational strategy [4] seeks a middle ground between a multidomestic strategy and a global strategy. Such a firm tries to balance the desire for efficiency with the need to adjust to local preferences within various countries. For example, large fast-food chains such as McDonald’s and KFC rely on the same brand names and the same core menu items around the world. These firms make some concessions to local tastes too. In France, for example, wine can be purchased at McDonald’s. This approach makes sense for McDonald’s because wine is a central element of French diets.

    IAHPC List of Essential Medicines for Palliative Care

    In collaboration with other organizations, the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) developed in 2007 a list of essential medicines for palliative care in response to a request from the Cancer Control Program of the World Health Organization (WHO).

    To work on this proposal, IAHPC formed a working committee which included board members of IAHPC and external advisers from the field. The Committee developed a plan of action which included a modified Delphi process, a general survey among palliative care experts from around the globe, and a face to face meeting in Salzburg, Austria, with representatives from international palliative care and pain relief organizations.

    Below you will find the link to the IAHPC List. The list includes 34 medications of which 14 are already included in the WHO list as essential in the treatment of several conditions, some of which are common in palliative care.

    American Airlines flight from Charlotte to Indy diverted to Knoxville due to

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WBIR) – An American Airlines flight heading from Charlotte, N.C. to Indianapolis was diverted late Tuesday to Knoxville because of a “non-credible security threat,” an airline spokesman said.

    The aircraft had to stay overnight at McGhee Tyson Airport because the crew’s on-duty time had lapsed. Passengers were being put up in hotel rooms at the airline’s expense, according to the airline.

    According to airport spokeswoman Becky Huckaby, airport management was alerted by the tower about 9:55 p.m. Tuesday that the plane was being diverted while en route from Charlotte.

    She said an “Alert 2” status was issued for the flight, meaning there was a potential problem. More than 100 were believed to be on board.

    The airport responded with emergency vehicles but the American Airlines plane landed safely and without incident.

    American stressed the plane was never in any danger.

    Passengers were expected to be rebooked Wednesday morning so they could continue on to their destinations.

    Our part-time delivery mode combines aspects of distance learning and on-campus delivery. You will benefit from the support of the virtual learning environment but also face-to-face interaction with tutors and classmates.

    The University’s virtual learning environment, CampusMoodle. gives you access from home/remotely to your learning materials (including videos, e-books and journals).

    During the course of your degree you are required to attend a 10 day leadership week which takes place in the last week of May in your second year.

    You will need to factor in the cost for travel, accommodation and subsistence for these 10 days.

    This event brings together a number of speakers from academia and industry. During the event there will be a mix of academic and practical workshops. Each session will explore a different aspect of leadership and aims to enhance students skills and provide an opportunity to network.

    The event will be hosted in the modern facilities at Aberdeen Business School, Garthdee.

    We had two non-smoking room reservations for Memorial Day weekend. We are a group of 5, two families, one with 6-month-old infant. We knew we will be late around midnight and we called them around 5 p.m. to tell them to hold the rooms we had reserved and we are on our way driving to Orlando. The manager (I guess) attended our call and told that they will hold the room since there is an active reservation. We reached there around 1 and found that they had canceled our reservation and gave the room for walk-in customers. When we asked about our reservation, they said there are no rooms currently available and all rooms are full. I asked the front desk clerk that we have an reservation for 3 nights and to check in again properly. She said we cant help. We were standing in the lobby for one hour with our 6-month-old daughter for no mistake we did. Then, she gave various options like to go and check with another Motel 6 branch which is 10 miles away from the current one or they would give us a gift card where I can use elsewhere some time later. We stood our ground and told them we are not moving away until we have our reserved rooms. She finally came up with one smoking room. We had no choice than to chose that one. It was awful, stinky, and dirty. We 5 had to share a single room for that night. It was 3 in the morning by the time we had one smoking room. It was a horrible experience. Never going back again to Motel 6.

The room was clean enough except one of the beds had a urin smell to it that my niece noticed on the 2nd night of our stay, We slept on blankets from our car. The worst part was when we tried to have family time at the pool. We were there with about 3 other family all with children, having a great time when 5 men came into the pol area and proceeded to smoke roll and smoke weed right in front of us. I m not even sure they were guest at the hotel since they didn t even attempt to use a key to get into the pool area, they just walked in since the gate was broken. There were numerous people in and out of the public bathroom again the door was broken. All of us with children immediately left the area and went back to our room. Lesson learned, next year I will spend an additional $100 to stay at a better hotel so I don t have to subject my grandson and nieces to this type of environment. This hotel needs to step up their security, immediately.
