3G Vs 2G

3G Internet Guide

Must Haves

What do I require to experience 3G?
You need a 3G compatible handset. To know whether your handset is 3G compatible, SMS CHECK to 12345 (toll free). To activate 3G services SMS ACT3G to 12345 (toll free). Dial *147# (toll free) to know about all the plans on offer. To remain connected seamlessly, go to Network mode in your handset and select the option which provides both 3G & 2G connectivity. This option varies from Handset & Operating Systems. Eg:In Nokia Symbian OS, the option is “Dual”. In Samsung Android OS, the option is “GSM/WCDMA”.

If I move out of a 3G coverage area, will my network become inaccessible?
On most handsets, the 3G icon will appear on your screen to indicate accessibility. When you move out of a 3G coverage area, the icon will disappear and you will be automatically transferred to the 2G network. Your phone will continue to work irrespective of your movement between 2G and 3G areas.

Do I need additional settings for Mobile Internet and Video Calling?
No additional settings are required for mobile internet settings (2G & 3G); SMS SET to 54671 (toll free) and save the settings received OR call our customer care. There are no separate APNs for 3G. Video Calling is automatically activated.

Will my 3G services work when on roaming? And will I be charged extra for the same?
Yes, 3G services will work when you are roaming too; except in Orissa. Roaming charges are always different as in the case of current voice and internet rates in the existing 2G scenario

Can I deactivate 3G?
Yes, you can. Simply SMS DEACT3G to 12345 (toll free). Do remember to dial *147# and change your internet plan also. You can also deactivate 3G for a small period of time. To do so, go to Settings > Network > select 2G network on handset. The 3G packs that you have activated will remain; but only 2G speeds will be available. If you do not want your 3G pack, you may call customer care and deactivate the same.

How will moving from 3G to 2G affect my charges?
Your 3G packs will continue as is, your internet speeds will become 2G while your charges will continue as per your 3G pack. If you are on a Video Calling pack, the rental deduction will continue, but no per call charge will be added as you will not be able to make any video calls.
Will 3G be very expensive?
No, 3G will be quite friendly on your wallet.

Since Idea has license for 3G in only 11 circles, will my services work in an area where Idea does not have 3G coverage?
Yes, 3G for any Idea user will work across the country, except in Orissa.

New To Idea

I moved to Idea recently (from another operator, retaining my existing number); can I opt for 3G too?
Yes, absolutely. 3G is for all customers, old and new.

Wireless Internet Background – How Wireless Internet Cards Work #internet #background

How Wireless Internet Cards Work

Marcus Williams/How Stuff Works

To understand the mechanism behind wireless Internet cards, you first have to grasp how the wireless Internet itself works. Rather than transmitting data through a phone line, digital subscriber line (DSL ) or high-speed cable, a wireless Internet network transmits data the same way that radios and c ell phones do: radio waves.

A WiFi hot spot, usually a wireless router or access point. first receives information from the Internet the old-fashioned way: through wires. It then translates that data from the binary form (the computer code of 1s and 0s) into radio waves. Next it broadcasts those radio waves into the surrounding area. Wireless signals typically travel between 75 feet and 150 feet (23 meters and 46 meters). In a wide open area with no obstacles, however, they have been known to transmit up to 1,000 feet (305 meters) and, with optimal conditions, even a mile (1.6 kilometers) [source: Wi-Fi Alliance ]. More on those optimal conditions in a little bit.

Wireless Internet cards within the range of the radio signal pick it up using a tiny antenna and translate it back into binary code for your computer to read. The process also works in the opposite direction, with the card translating your computer’s information into radio waves to send to the router, where it is put back into binary form and sent to the Internet over the wires.

The radio communication used by wireless networks is slightly different from that of radios and cell phones. For instance, wireless Internet cards are designed to work at higher frequencies to handle more data — typically either 2.4 gigahertz or 5 gigahertz. In addition, the cards and the routers can communicate on one of three different frequency channels. In cases where many people are using the wireless signal, like an airport crowded with business travelers, the cards and the routers can also jump between channels to reduce interference.

Wireless cards operate under networking standards that are a variation of the basic 802.11 standard. These standards were developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers to differentiate between the various technologies. The 802.11b and 802.11g standards are the most common, while the faster 802.11n. which was recently released, is not as widespread.

Although WiFi radio signals have some benefits over regular radio signals, they are still subject to interference by physical obstacles. Interference happens when a signal is hampered by distance or a physical obstacle. For instance, microwaves and many cordless phones operate in the same frequency used by some WiFi networks, so you might notice a slowdown in your service if you’re trying to warm your latte while you sign on. Likewise, if you move to another room or if an elephant comes to stand between you and the hot spot, the signal could be lost.

Don’t worry if you don’t have your own wireless network at home or at work. You can purchase prepaid wireless Internet cards in the U.S. from companies such as T-Mobile, which allow you access to all the T-Mobile hot spots. This can get kind of pricey, though, so you may want to kick in the cash to set up your own network or find a local spot that advertises a free Wi-Fi connection.

If you’re overwhelmed by computer acronyms, brace yourself. On the next page, you’ll learn the difference between PCI. PCMCIA (PC) and WCF cards.

ISP Providers – Knowledge Is Power

Welcome our web site that will explain exactly what you need to know to choose the best ISP providers. After reviewing the material here, you can obtain a free quotation for your need by completing the quote tool above.

It’s no secret, that you get what you pay for. But chance favors the prepared mind. So get ready to be armed with the knowledge to make the best decision for the best price. First of all, you need to know there are two basic types of ISP providers that can provision your highspeed Internet.

Business ISP Providers

So there is “real Internet service” provided by quality ISP providers and then there are all the others. A good place to learn about so-called business-class cheap Internet service is at this link VoIP Broadband Speed Test. Are You Getting What You Are Paying For? I would recommend reviewing this link if you have a very small business and a small budget or are a residential user.

“Real business ISP providers” provision their services on dedicated facilities. What this means is that a connection from your business to the Point of Presence to the Internet is available for you and you alone. The importance of this is that if you buy a T1 or a 10 Mbps ethernet connection, then that is exactly what you will have available for your use at all times. By researching the link above you will learn that not all “business-class” services are necessarily dedicated connections such as this.

Business ISP providers that provide these special dedicated connections cost more than your typical cable modem or ADSL connection to the Internet. The reason for this is not only the fact that you have an “always on” connection available just for you, but also are going to receive Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to guarantee the service will be available generally 99.99% of the time. SLAs also provide guarantees surrounding latency, jitter, and packet loss, among other important issues.

Additionally, the best business ISP providers will many times be providing business Internet service on a fully managed basis. What this means is, the edge routing equipment will be managed by the service provider, thus reducing finger-pointing and hassles in the event of a network outage or service impairment. Increasingly, firewall management and employee content filtering are important managed options as well.

Additional Important ISP Providers Services

Add to this, that the best Internet service providers, that provide highspeed Internet service of this type, will also have many options for telecom security such as managed firewall, intrusion protection, spam and malware protection, wireless network security and content filtering. This is important, because it assures your business a bulletproof, mission-critical connection to the Internet. In a general sense if your business relies on assuring a quality always on connection for services such as e-mail and applications that are running over the Internet, like database client management systems among others, then this is the type connection you’re going to want to look into by these types of ISP providers.

Please feel free to complete the quote request form above to see pricing for your area. You can also call the toll free number above to discuss your particular ISP providers needs.

Thanks for visiting!

Prevent Someone Else from using Your Wireless Internet Connection #secure #wireless #internet #connection

Prevent Someone Else from using Your Wireless Internet Connection

Do you suspect that a neighbor is using your wireless Internet connection? It could be that your Internet connection is slower than it should be or that your devices keep disconnecting from the router. Someone connected to your wireless router can also access shared folders on your network, so data theft is a real threat. Luckily, there are ways to detect unknown connections to your network and ways to stop them from connecting.

The main defense against wireless leechers is securing your wireless router. Even though most wireless routers from ISPs come with long passwords, someone can still gain access by simply copying the password printed on your wireless router, since most people don t change the default password set by their ISP.

If you have a router that you bought on your own, no one will be able to use the password written on the router unless you don t change the default password. We ll talk about all this below. Let s first talk about how to detect wireless leechers.

Detect Unauthorized Wireless Connections

There are basically two ways to go about detecting all the devices connected to your wireless router: either check on the router itself or use a device already connected to the network to scan the entire network. I prefer the latter method because it s less complicated, however, I will mention both ways.

The first step is to connect to your wireless router from your web browser. In order to do that, you have to type in the IP address for your router. If you don t know it, read my post on determining the IP of your wireless router. Once you have that, you ll need to login using the username and password.

If you don t remember the password or you never changed the default password, that s a problem. In either of these cases, I recommend resetting your wireless router to factory default settings and starting from scratch. It may sound like a monumental task, but it s really not.

First, read my post on resetting your wireless router. which is fairly easy to do. Next, don t worry if you don t have the paperwork for your router anymore because you can either find the default password on the router itself or you can find default router passwords online .

Once you are able to log into your router, you can check what IP addresses have been allocated on the network. Usually, this information is located somewhere on the main page and can be called something like Devices, My Network, IP Address Allocation, Attached Devices, Wireless Status, Connected Devices, DHCP Clients Table, etc. It really depends on the router you have, but you should see a list like the one shown below.

Most new routers will also show you the name of the devices, so it s easy to tell if the device is a phone, tablet, printer, IP camera, NAS, streaming device, laptop or computer. If you can t figure out what device is associated with an IP address, you can always try to paste that IP into your web browser and see if it loads a web page. Some printers, camera, etc. will have their own web interfaces that you can connect to via the browser.

If all of that is too complicated, another method to find connected clients is to use a smartphone app. For Apple devices, I recommend Net Analyzer Lite and Fing Network Scanner. Fing is also available in the Google Play Store .

These apps are actually better than going directly to the router most of the time because they can give you more information about the device. Fing can even figure out if you have a console on your network, which is pretty cool.

Now it should be pretty easy to find a device that is not supposed to be connected to your network. If this is the case, what can you do? Keep reading to find out how to secure your wireless network.

Secure Wireless Network

The first step you should take if you think your network has been compromised is to completely reset your router as mentioned earlier or buy a new router if the current one is old. If someone was able to connect to your wireless router, they could have also compromised the router and may be able to monitor all activity on the network.

The next step is to log into your router and to immediately change the default login for the router. Many people assume that setting a strong WiFi password is all they need, but this is not case. It is true that in order for someone to log into your router, they first have to be connected to the wireless network. However, there are many times when you have guests who you cannot trust fully that need to connect to your wireless network for a short time.

Router Admin

Once connected, if they are the hacker type, they might try connect to your router and try the default username and password to log in. If you never changed it, they now can access your router and have full control over your WiFi network. So change the router login password immediately.

If you can change the username also, go ahead and do that. Admin is the absolute most common username on routers and changing it makes it much harder for someone to gain access to your router. If you have a wireless router from an ISP, the username and password for the router admin interface is also printed right on the device, so make sure to change it from the default values.

You ll have to poke around the various setting and configuration pages as these options are located in different places for different vendors. Now that you have changed the router login info, the next step is to setup the wireless security.

There are three main ways to secure your router at this point: choosing between WEP, WPA, and WPA2 encryption, disabling SSID broadcast and enabling wireless MAC authentication. I firmly believe you really only need to use WPA2 encryption with a long key to be very secure, but some people like to take extra precautions and it could be worth the extra effort if you have very sensitive information stored on your devices.

Some routers make this really easy for you, like the Verizon FIOS router advanced security settings page shown above. You should only use WPA2. if possible. WEP is very insecure and WPA can be cracked fairly easily. If you have devices on your network that cannot connect once you setup WPA2, then you should pick the option that has WPA + WPA2 Personal. Make sure you choose a long password. Note that it doesn t have to be a bunch of random numbers, symbols, or letters to be secure. A strong password just has to be a long passphrase .

If you ve followed the steps above, resetting your router, configuring the admin password and using WPA2, you can pretty much be certain that anyone previously connected to your wireless network is now disconnected.

If you want to go further, you can read my post on disabling SSID broadcast. but it really doesn t make your network much more secure. Enabling MAC address filtering will make your network more secure, but it makes everything a lot less convenient. Every time you want to connect a new device to your network, you ll have to find the MAC address for the device. log into your router and add that to the filtering list.

In conclusion, if you suspect unusual activity on your network, you should immediately follow the steps outlined above. There are chances someone may be monitoring your computer if they are connected to your network, so it s better to be safe than sorry. If you have any questions, post a comment. Enjoy!

Google Chrome: Put the Home Button on the Toolbar #internet #button

Google Chrome: Put the Home Button on the Toolbar

Google s Chrome browser gives you the option whether or not you want a button on the toolbar to bring you back to your homepage. Here is how to add (or remove) the Home button from the browser s toolbar.

I am frequently asked where is my Home button? by new Chrome users. Traditionally, all web browsers have had a Home button that when pressed takes the user back to their set homepage. However, as most users have gotten away from using homepages, the Home button is slowly being removed from browsers to simplify the toolbar. Here are the steps for getting it back.

1. Open Google Chrome.

2. Click the three horizontal lines icon in the upper-right corner of the toolbar and select Settings. Older versions of Chrome may have a wrench icon instead.

3. Under the Appearances section and check the Show Home button checkbox.

Immediately when you check or uncheck the setting, the Home button will appear (or disappear) from the toolbar.

The methods for placing and removing the Home button have changed as google has rolled out new versions of the Chrome browser. If this tutorial does not work for you, please be sure you have updated to the latest version. If you are running the latest version, just drop us a note in the comments. We ll be glad to update the tutorial again.

I am not given an Option or a Preference button on the Wrench Icon. I am only given drop-down s Bookmarks and Tools , but neither of them show HOME info. there.

Are there different versions of Chrome that add or don t had the home button? I thought Chrome was going to be way clever, but with this simple issue made way complicated, that I had to go search for help on how to find HOME and still not able to do it, leads me to believe Chrome does not know what they are doing. Did they think people just decided not to use HOME anymore? I wonder what were their reasoning?

This was so simple that I feel like an idiot now for not knowing. Thanks for the walkthrough!

Have just had to use the google chrome, forced no doubt by your company, I fail to see why you so glibly put that no one uses the home page any more as they are moving away from it, I would point out that you would not be answering this complaint it that were the case, can you tell me why the like tab contains the print instruction, what planet are your designers on. clearly some other one not the one that most of your annoyed new users are on, pull your socks up, and why not ask people their opinion. I have just spent 10 minutes trying to save a page, shame on your design team.

I am having trouble with the homepage icon. I have it working such that when I bring up Chrome it goes to my homepage, but then at any time later, I click the homepage icon, it goes to a New Page. (using Chrome Version 24.0.1312.57 m on Windows 7) If I go to settings then appearance then show home page and try to change the homepage URL it is greyed out and locked on Use the New Tab page . If I click the diamond shaped note thingy ) it says this setting is set by your administrator .

I just downloaded Chrome before I started to set it up and I am an administrator on the machine. Did some type of administrator from the company network reach in as soon as I loaded Chrome (they told us to do it) and lock it up. Is there some place that I can go (as the administrator) and reset the option.

Your the BOMB! Thank you so much. It s the simple stuff that counts!!

Thank you so much for good clear instructions my home button is back I missed it. Your help is appreciated though I do feel stupid because I d checked SOME of the Chrome instructions and didn t read down far enough to find this out for myself!!

thank you your website was very helpful. Thank You!!

I just got chrome am having a problem with home page. On my other browsers I have the same page for start home, but chrome is a problem. It goes to the correct page on start but if I then browse hit the home button it says url not found! How can it find it on start but not on home? I have went thru settings appearance etc I do have the proper url listed. Any help for me? Please email me cause I don t know if I can find this page again!

David Kirk says that most users have gotten away from using homepages how do people manage without their homepage?

Total BS. No Home button on Google Chrome is overlooking millions of users. I AM ONE.
No, I am not arrogant. You are
Austin, Tx

Not sure who you are suggesting is arrogant. Mr Kirk is not responsible for Googles decisions, and is providing a valuable service allowing us to figure out how to get what we want. I for one am grateful. I too was a homepage addict 12 months ago, but now find myself using my homepage less as I get used to having a search available directly in the browser. There are billions of users, and we all have different preferences; courtesy costs nothing. Please avoid expresing your frustration with Chrome towards someone who wants to help you.

Struggling to get basic functionality in chrome like browsers that were standard in classic browsers. How come. Instead tons of literally useless extensions. Missing home buttons clean like context menu, drop context menu for extension sort out and list goes endless. Fisrt of all fixing basic things in chrome like browsers and then showing and bragging of.

I m trying to get the home button back, however when I open Google Chrome I don t have either the 3 horizontal lines or a wrench icon. Now what??

Hi Ann thats weird. You could try Alt-F
That seems to open the same menu as the three bars/wrench icon, so may get you access to the Settings option? I have NO idea how to get the Settings icon back though. Let us know if Alt-F helps your feedback may help others, even if it doesnt work. If not, what device are you running Chrome on? Previous comments indicate that this doesn t apply to iPad or Chrome mobile. Only seems to work on Windows PC or Mac. Good luck.

When I put my cursor on Google Chrome in my task bar a (3) shows up next to GC what does it mean?

i d had a problem with windows 8 ( its crap basically ) and now i have my internet back up and running (no thanks to PCworld who only want your money in exchange for help ) my home logo has dis-appeared so thank you for showing me how easy to get it back with just a ticked box easy when you know how,

hi sir fine here,i was just want to place the home button on tool bar then I read ur instruction although it was already set from ur given process in the setting tab ,so i therefor thanks to u that u hav had much experience using google chrome,I request u that my pc is displaying message it has about 3000 errors which I tried to scane but not repair and scaned if u plz send me solution or free repairing download and scaning,I also want to show the mail box icon on the tool bar where i can easyly chek mail,ur given instruction will be useful for me and I ll very thankful to u and ur cooperation wil highly be appreciated.

I have read your instructions on home button (toolbar) restoration but I do not have the three line button and also no wrench button to access options. What now?

Hiya, have you tried my comment from 1st November? Not sure if Alt-F will get you to the same settings menu, Ann never replied :(. Would be useful if you could confirm if it works (or not), as you re the second person with the same problem. Good luck.

thank you l did what you suggested and got my icon back why does it change is it what l do or what ?

Automatically Refresh Web Pages in Your Web Browser #refresh #internet

Automatically Refresh Web Pages in Your Web Browser

Are you one of those people that will keep refreshing a webpage in order to be the first to buy something during Black Friday? I know I am! It s not very often, but there are these crucial times every year when you have to become a page refreshing pro in order to get the best deal.

However, it can be quite a task to continually refresh multiple web pages at the same time. Luckily, there are tools that you can use to automatically refresh a web page for you and I m going to talk about some of them in this article.

I ll mention tools for IE, Chrome, Safari and Firefox since those are probably the most popular web browsers currently in use.

Google Chrome Extensions

My favorite extension out of all the extensions for Chrome is Super Auto Refresh. It s got the best mix in terms of features, functionality and design.

Once you install the extension, you will see a new icon at the far right of your address bar in Chrome. Click on that and you ll get a long list of preset timings for refreshing the current page/tab.

You can set the refresh rate from as little as 2 seconds to as high as 60 minutes. The only downside to this extension is that it does not have an option to choose a custom time period, which a lot of the other add-ons do have.

Also, if you click on the little green hamburger icon to the right of the word Refresh , a new tab will load that will list out all the pages that are currently set to refresh along with the set time intervals and the amount of time remaining before the next refresh. Note that if you close a tab and then reopen it later, the extension will remember and apply the same refresh settings.

If you want to be able to enter a custom time, you ll have to try another extension like Easy Auto Refresh. This extension works like Super Auto Refresh and has some extra options that I like. For example, if you are viewing a certain part of a webpage, then it will remember the scroll position and reload the page at the same location. This is great for longer pages where the content you are interested in refreshing may not be located at the top of the page.

Firefox Add-ons

Firefox is also another great browser that has a large number of add-ons to extend its functionality. The first one I like is ReloadEvery. It s a very simple add-on that only adds an extra option when you right-click on a webpage.

Once installed, restart Firefox and then right-click anywhere on the webpage to see the menu option.

The extension has a couple of presets or you can choose Custom if you like. If you have multiple tabs open, you can click on Enable All Tabs to enable auto refresh on all the currently open tabs. You can also check Auto Enable New Tab if you want every new tab you open to have auto refresh enabled.

The second add-on that I like for Firefox is Tab Auto Reload. This add-on works a little differently in that you have to right-click on the tab itself and add a toggle icon to your menu bar.

Once installed, go to Customize and then drag the toggle icon to your menu bar. To refresh a tab, you have to right-click on the tab itself to get the menu options under Reload Tab .

You can disable auto refresh for a page by simply clicking on the toggle icon. If it s blue and white, that means auto refresh is enabled.

From what I recall, neither of these add-ons will remember the settings for a webpage, meaning if you close the tab and reload the same page, you ll have to setup the refresh settings again.

Internet Explorer Add-on

For Internet Explorer, there are not very many options. Actually, there was really only one add-on that I could find that was safe to use. It s pretty old, but it still works in IE 11. Note that as of now, Microsoft Edge does not support extensions or add-ons, so there is nothing available for it.

Once you install Auto IE Refresher. open Internet Explorer and click on the Enable button in order to start using the add-on.

Once enabled, you ll see a large gray bar appear at the top of the web page. It s unfortunately very conspicuous and there really isn t anything you can do about it. It would have been smart to simply use a button, but for whatever reason the developers decided a bar across the screen was better.

Just click on the bar to choose a timing or to pick a custom time interval. You can also set a different refresh interval for different tabs. That s about all there is to this add-on.

Safari Extension

Finally, there is also one extension for Safari that works well. The Auto Refresh Safari extension is the work of one developer named Andrew Griffin. When you go to install it, you ll get a message stating this is not a known developer, so just click Continue to install it.

Once installed, you can bring up the refresh toolbar by clicking on the Auto Refresh button.

By default, the time interval is set to 5 seconds, but you can just click in the box and change the value to whatever you like in seconds. Click the Start button and as long as you keep the toolbar visible, you ll be able to see a countdown to the next refresh.

To hide the toolbar, just click on the button in the navigation bar area. Note that if you are in full-screen mode, the toolbar will disappear unless you move your mouse up to the top of the Safari window.

So those are all the different options you have for automatically refreshing web pages in Chrome, Firefox, IE and Safari. If you have any questions, feel free to comment. Enjoy!

Comcast/XFINITY Speed Test Review

Updated August 01, 2017

The Comcast Speed Test, technically called the XFINITY Speed Test (more on that below), is a Comcast-provided internet speed test .

This test is a completely free, web-based tool that you can use to see how much available bandwidth to the internet you have right now.

In other words, using the Comcast Speed Test, you can get a general idea of how quickly you re able to download and upload information over the internet, which impacts how well movies and music stream, how fast files download, and even how smooth your regular internet browsing is.

How to Use the Comcast Speed Test Tool

Using the Comcast Speed Test tool is very easy:

  1. Visit the Speed Test from XFINITY website.
  2. Click or tap the Start Test button or chose the Advanced Settings link at the top of that page to change the location of the test server.
  3. Wait while the 3 parts of the test complete.

If you re planning on benchmarking your internet speed with the Comcast Speed Test, click or tap the Share your results button and then open the URL that s shown to go to the dedicated page of your results. You can then copy and paste the URL into a document you ll save for reference next time.

You ll need to have Flash installed and enabled to use the Comcast Speed Test. You ll also need to have Javascript enabled in whatever browser you re using. Most computers are ready to go with both of those things.

How the Comcast Speed Test Works

Like almost all internet speed tests, the Comcast Speed Test downloads and uploads a relatively small amount of test data and measures how long it takes to do so.

Some simple math involving the size of the data packages, as well as the time they took to download or upload, provides a speed in Mbps.

The Comcast Speed Test also tests network latency in addition to upload and download speeds.

This test connects to the closest of 27 Comcast hosted, but OOKLA powered, test servers to perform the test of your internet speed and latency.

XFINITY Speed Test Comcast Speed Test

The Comcast Speed Test is the XFINITY Speed Test. The XFINITY Speed Test is the Comcast Speed Test. They re one in the same.

XFINITY is the name given to most of Comcast s consumer services, one of which is XFINITY Internet. Comcast rebranded their Comcast services as XFINITY beginning in 2010.

Even though the name change is a number of years old now, the XFINITY Speed Test is still more often referred to as the Comcast Speed Test .

Can I use the Comcast Speed Test if I m not a Comcast/XFINITY customer?

Yes. The Comcast Speed Test is available for anyone to use to test their internet speed.

Keep in mind, however, that there may be an internet speed test tool from your Internet Service Provider which, depending on why you re testing your bandwidth, may be a better option for you.

See my Internet Speed Test Sites list to check for a bandwidth test site available from your ISP.

Is the Comcast Speed Test accurate? Is it better than other Internet Speed tests?

With so many variables that impact your Comcast Speed Test results, it s almost impossible to say it is 100% accurate. It s the same with other bandwidth testing sites as well – the uncertainty isn t a Comcast/XFINITY problem alone.

That said, considering the fact that you are [probably] a Comcast/XFINITY customer, and assuming that you re testing your bandwidth with the Comcast Speed Test tool to benchmark changes over time or to make a case about your slow connection, I d consider the test as accurate as needed.

Looking at cat videos at work requires a steady hand, a keen eye over the shoulder for the boss, and a worthwhile internet connection. If you’ve ever wished your office cubicle had much better broadband, this is the story you can take to your boss. Tell him just how well various business-oriented ISPs rate with the readers of PCMag.

PCMag’s Business Choice: ISPs (internet service providers) highlight the broadband providers that score best overall with readers, as well as in categories like reliability, value, and how likely they are to be recommended to colleagues and friends. Your own ISP may not make the cut (we require a certain number of responses to include an ISP in any of the categories), but those that do are used by a clear majority of our readers. Yet only a few of those score so well that users are truly happy with the service. Read on to see which ISPs your boss should pick, so you can get those crystal-clear 4K cat video streams.

You can be part of Business Choice! Sign up for the Readers’ Choice Survey mailing list to receive invitations in the future.

These ISPs are reliable and perhaps well liked, but which is the fastest? Read the Fastest ISPs of 2017 to find out.

    Internet Service Providers for Business

In our third year of rating ISPs for use at the workplace, RCN continues to impress. For the second year in a row, the business side of the cable-and-fiber-ISP in the northeastern United States has taken the top slot, this year adding a tenth of a point to its overall score, earning an 8.2 (on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 as the very best).

Scores not represented as a percentage are on a scale of 0 to 10 where 10 is the best.

Net Promoter Scores are based on the concept introduced by Fred Reichheld in his 2006 bestseller, The Ultimate Question, that no other question can better define the loyalty of a company’s customers than “how likely is it that you would recommend this company to a friend or colleague?” This measure of brand loyalty is calculated by taking the percent of respondents who answered 9 or 10 (promoters) and subtracting the percent who answered 0 through 6 (detractors). Paying too much for monthly cellphone service? You’re not alone. The average monthly cellphone bill from smartphone giant Verizon Wireless was a staggering $148 per month in the fourth quarter of 2014. If you are tired of overpaying every month, check out this mobile phone startup and start saving hundreds of dollars a year on phone service. Data has shown people who ditch their expensive smartphone giants save about $1,400 annually. FreedomPop is a new player in the mobile phone space and relies on towers from big players like Sprint to ensure reliable nationwide coverage. With Sprint service, people are paying $60 per month for unlimited service. With the same nationwide coverage as Sprint, people are saving big when switching over to FreedomPop’s $19.99 per month, unlimited talk, text, and 1GB data plan. Disrupting the mobile phone space means more than cutting the cost of service. There are also no lengthy contracts, generous 90-day warranties, and a completely free monthly service for people who prefer smaller plans. You can also bring your old phone over with their “Bring Your Own Device” program.

    What is Mobile Broadband?

Older 3G wireless Internet technology delivered slow Internet speeds in comparison to traditional DSL and cable Internet connections. However, today’s wireless Internet technology including 4G LTE delivers mobile broadband speeds equivalent and even faster than DSL and cable. Today, mobile broadband Internet connectivity can replace existing home Internet broadband.

    What is Wireless Internet?

Unlike DSL and Cable Internet technology that require physical at home or at the office connections, wireless Internet technology, including LTE allows Internet access anywhere, anytime, with any device. Connect your desktop, iPad, iPhone, laptop or any device wirelessly, ensuring Internet access no matter where your life takes you. Whether you need to connect to the Internet from home, the office, coffee shop, hotel, or even at the bar, wireless Internet technology will connect you.

Clients Love the Convenience, Speed, and Accuracy of
    Internet Proofreading from

    Internet Proofreading Is Convenient

In this “I need it yesterday” world, you’re sure to agree with my clients that Internet proofreading is a blessing. The convenience of being able to simply email a message or attachment and have it returned to you polished and ready to impress is an absolute necessity. With Internet proofreading, all your copyediting can be handled quickly and professionally.

“In the advertising/copywriting business, I always hear from customers who are in a hurry for copyediting. It’s such a blessing to know that is available to help me out in a pinch. The convenience factor of being able to email or fax a project to Cathy and have it returned in just a short while is a real lifesaver!”

    Internet Proofreading Is Fast

I constantly hear my clients’ kind words about quick turnaround. Internet proofreading, in and of itself, speeds up the process. And I always strive to meet your deadlines even if you have a rush job.

“Cathy Kessler has proven time and again to be a valuable asset in enhancing the effectiveness of many of my different types of written communications. I know that when I send something to Cathy for copyediting, not only will it be returned to me in a prompt manner, but also the document will be grammatically correct. Cathy’s helpful insights in the area of business proofreading have enabled me to clearly state what I want the reader to know, while doing it in a very straightforward, professional manner. I would highly recommend Cathy to anyone who understands the value of the well-edited written word.”

    Internet Proofreading Is Accurate

Most of my clients rave about the accuracy of Internet proofreading. Because the copyediting is done in digital format, the results are more reliable than marking the changes on paper and then having to make adjustments on your document later. If you’d like to see the changes I’ve made while copyediting, just ask, and I’ll gladly mark them for you.

“It’s really hard to find your own mistakes, especially when you know how text/copy should read. I always run all my projects past Cathy’s meticulous eyes before releasing a project to press or production. On more than one occasion, she has found typos or grammatical errors that would have cost me money and aggravation to reprint, not to mention client dissatisfaction as a result, I’ve never had to reprint a project. I would highly recommend Cathy’s copyediting and proofreading services to anyone who writes or uses text/copy of any kind. She’s the best!!”

Get the Best VoIP for Your Business

    Introduction to Business VoIP

Chances are, you already use some form of VoIP or internet phone service, whether it s in your business or personal life. If you ve ever used Skype or WhatsApp, or any kind of Internet phone to make a call, you re experiencing the power of Voice Over IP, or to put it simply-making calls over the internet.

When it comes to using VoIP for your business, there are some factors to consider before you choose a provider. The best VoIP providers can help you lower costs, reach more customers, and even enhance your mobility and productivity. The wrong VoIP companies could be too expensive for you or simply not understand the importance of this tool in your business.

Benefits of Having a Businesses VoIP Phone System

The full benefits of having a Voice over IP phone will depend on the size and type of business you own. However, loosely speaking, many business benefit from:

Lower Costs – Businesses on average see a reduction in costs of between 50% and 75% after switching to VoIP. This is a combination of reduced communication expenses and logistical benefits.

Productivity – Investing in internet phone allows companies to let their employees work remotely, which can increase productivity by almost 20%. Also, employees will be able to reach each other more easily, thus saving time.

Reliability – Because of QoS (Quality of service) protocols, common issues like jitter, latency or delay are monitored for a satisfactory standard for business practice. In a recent study, less than 0.5% of survey respondents reported being dissatisfied with VoIP call quality.

Customer Satisfaction – Unsatisfied customers would rather switch services than complain, so customer service needs to be more on top of visitors needs than ever before. Giving your customers more ways to reach your business is simple with the help of VoIP. This could be helping employees work remotely, increasing office hours or just offering the customers a number to call when a problem arises.

    VoIP Features

Voice over IP companies will differ greatly from one to the next. Some of the most popular features are:

    Migration of your current numbers

    Voicemail to Email

    Types of VoIP Systems

The biggest difference in costs is going to be dependent on the type of VoIP service you choose for your business. There are three main types of VoIP systems available:

Hosted System. Similar to a website hosting plan, this means that the vendor owns the hardware, and your business leases or buys the phones. Maintenance will be handled by the vendor, too. Companies will usually charge a subscription to use the internet phone system. This includes lower costs up-front, and no maintenance, so it works well for businesses without their own IT staff. However, it is less customizable and reliant on the vendor s servers.

On Premise System. In this scenario, your business owns the hardware, and that means that you are responsible for any upgrades or maintenance work. You ll of course have a higher initial cost, but if you re a larger business who wants the best options for customization and security-it could be a good choice.

Managed System. The business still owns the equipment, but the vendor takes responsibility of the hard work like set up and maintenance. This is a great best of both worlds option, allowing you the good things about both on premise and hosted solutions. The costs are higher, and your downtime is more likely than if you went with a hosted solution.

    What to Know

Here are some of the most common VoIP related terms made simple.

PBX: Private Branch Exchange is like a private telephone network which works within a company or organization. This might be in one building, across multiple offices, or even globally across many countries and time zones. The users of the system can easily communicate with one another on one private and secure phone network. If your VoIP provider offers a PBX, this will be using your LAN or WAN data network rather than the traditional telephone network. There are many VoIP services which offer a PBX system. including some of the top providers on the market.

VoIP and Call Centers: Traditional call centers have been completely revolutionized by VoIP technology. Customer service is improved by having always on support, with better quality and efficiency. Customers can be immediately routed to the right technician for their query, improving technical support at every stage of the game. A Voice over IP system for a virtual call center means that you can integrate headquarters, remote offices and even outsourced locations seamlessly. You can even include agents who are working from home.

Web Conferencing: VoIP can help your company make meetings easier and more efficient. Arrange for entire teams to meet face to face without spending a cent on flights or managing dozens of schedules. Look for solutions which are multi-channel and don t need specific hardware for a certain OS. Of course, you will need audio, video and chat capabilities. You might also want screen-sharing, uploading files, and recording functionality, too. If you re looking to streamline your business, than web conferencing software might be for you.

How to Choose a VoIP Provider for Business

There s certainly a lot to think about! To help you make the best choice, and ensure you get all the features you need for the most competitive price on the market, our experts have done a lot of the hard work for you. Are internet affairs different? #monitor #on #psychology, #research #findings,,internet #affairs, #cybersex, #emotional #infidelity,,marriage, #divorce, #women, #men, #sex,

    Are Internet affairs different?

The typical affair used to start in the office and move to a seedy motel room, but the vast reach of the Internet has brought infidelity into many couples’ homes over the past decade.

The growth in steamy chat room conversations and cybersex also has triggered a rethinking of the meaning of infidelity. If there is no physical contact or actual sex, is it still an affair?

“It’s not just that you’re communicating with someone online but that there is a sexual or emotional nature,” says Katherine Hertlein, PhD, an associate professor at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas who studies online affairs. “With the Internet, we’re moving away from just physical ideas about infidelity and acknowledging emotional infidelity.”

While there is no universally accepted definition, an Internet affair frequently involves intimate chat sessions and sexually stimulating conversation or cybersex, which may include filming mutual masturbation with a Web camera.

Several studies suggest that even when there is no in-person contact, online affairs can be just as devastating as the real-world variety, triggering feelings of insecurity, anger and jealousy. Women usually feel more threatened by the emotional betrayal of a partner’s online affair, while men are more concerned about physical encounters, Hertlein says, but the gender differences are lessening.

“That is starting to even out in part because of the equality of opportunity that the Internet brings to everybody,” she says.

While men traditionally have been the more unfaithful sex, gender roles are reversing in some cases as more women experience cybersex. “I think there is this bias that women don’t cheat for sexual reasons at all,” Hertlein says. “Women are supposed to be the nurturers and the matriarchs in our society.”

Due to the secretive nature of online affairs, reliable statistics are hard to find, but a 2005 study of 1,828 Web users in Sweden offers evidence about the prevalence of cybersex and online affairs. Almost a third of the participants reported cybersexual experiences, and people in committed relationships were just as likely to engage in cybersex as those who were single. But gender and age made a difference. While men’s interest in cybersex decreased with age, women’s interest increased slightly, with 37 percent of women age 35 to 49 reporting cybersexual experiences compared with only a quarter of men in the same age group (Archives of Sexual Behavior. Vol. 34, No. 3).

A 2008 Australian study offers more insight into Internet affairs. It found that of 183 adults who were currently or recently in a relationship, more than 10 percent had formed intimate online relationships, 8 percent had experienced cybersex and 6 percent had met their Internet partners in person (Australian Journal of Counselling Psychology. Vol. 9, No. 2). More than half of the respondents believed an online relationship constituted unfaithfulness, with the numbers climbing to 71 percent for cybersex and 82 percent for in-person meetings.

Kimberly Young, PhD, who directs the Center for Internet Addiction Recovery in Bradford, Pa. says about half of the couples in her practice are seeking counseling because of online affairs or excessive use of online pornography. Young sees more women who are online cheaters, in part, she says, because women gravitate toward erotic chats and webcam sessions while men often are drawn to pornography.

“The Internet is opening up these new ways of exploring your sexuality and that includes infidelity,” she says.

    Right under your nose

Americans now spend as much time online as they do watching TV — about 13 hours a week. While TV viewing has remained fairly constant, time spent surfing the Web has increased more than 120 percent over the last five years. With the burgeoning use of the Internet, many practitioners are seeing more couples because of online affairs and are addressing new issues in therapy, psychologists say.

“It starts in the home, which is very different than most affairs. It starts right under your roof,” says Elaine Ducharme, PhD, a psychologist in Glastonbury, Conn. who specializes in cybersex addictions. “You can’t usually get rid of your computer in the house. Every time you walk by, you’re asking yourself if he or she is using it for an affair.”

While most relationships are hampered by such workday realities as household chores and paying the bills, online relationships exist in an electronic nether world where strangers can construct their own identities, Hertlein says. “On the Internet, you can be whoever you want to be. You can type, backspace, delete. You don’t have to be this constrained person you think you should be.”

Fantasy also is a huge factor in online affairs, and fantasy always trumps reality. “Your primary partner will never be able to compare with the fantasy partner,” Hertlein says. “They will never win.”

According to Young, people with low self-esteem, a distorted body image, an untreated sexual dysfunction or a prior sexual addiction are more at risk to develop addictions to cybersex or online pornography.

Therapy can be more complicated if the cheating partner doesn’t believe his or her online activities qualify as an affair, Ducharme says. “The excuses are, ‘I didn’t have sex with this person. I didn’t go out and see anybody or catch any diseases,’” she says. “But the other partner often feels such an emotional betrayal that they are going through the same feelings as if their partner was having a real affair.”

Online affairs can contribute to divorce and child custody fights as the involved partner becomes more enmeshed in the online relationship. A 2008 article in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy (Vol. 34, No. 4) by Hertlein and a colleague reviewed eight studies of Internet affairs and documented many negative effects from online romances, including less interest in sex in the committed relationship and neglect of work and time with children. Almost two-thirds of the participants in one study reported they had met and had sex with their Internet partners; only 44 percent of them reported using condoms.

    Reasons behind cheating

Several studies have focused on the “AAA engine” that drives online affairs, namely accessibility, affordability and anonymity. “The Internet is extremely accessible no matter where you are,” Hertlein says. “You could be at home or at work or sitting on the couch with your partner chatting to someone online.”

As costs for Internet access have dropped, online affairs are also very affordable. They can be easy to conceal, as long as the cheating partner deletes the Web browser history and any incriminating e-mails. “It’s really difficult to track what your partner is doing,” Hertlein says. “There aren’t receipts for hotels or dinners or excursions.” With the faceless nature of the Internet, anonymity also is easy to come by. People often feel more comfortable revealing intimate details of their lives to relative strangers because the relationship exists only in cyberspace, Ducharme says. “Things happen so quickly online,” she says. “Some people really begin to think the other person is in love with them. They develop this intimacy and fantasy relationship. The cool thing about fantasy relationships is they don’t require any work.”

Therapy is similar for online or traditional affairs, with couples working on issues of trust, betrayal and forgiveness. Hertlein also encourages couples to use the Internet to strengthen their relationships by enjoying pornography sites together or visiting websites for ideas about romantic dates or new sexual skills.

After an Internet affair, couples often need to move the home computer to a public space, such as the living room, and install tracking or blocking software, Ducharme says. But to build lasting trust, couples must dig deeper in therapy.

“In terms of treatment, the first step is about the individual taking responsibility for the online affair,” she says. “But the couple also needs to examine what was happening in their marriage that led to one of them cheating online.”

South Apopka Florida Cable Broadband DSL broadband internet providers

There are 3 types of broadband South Apopka internet providers. Typically satellite internet providers have been limited in their speeds. Satellite based broadband with speeds from 1-3Mbp has been typical (New technology has increased this to a top speed of triple that). Satellite is now offering blazing fast internet in South Apopka of up to12mbps. The internet providers have evolved to keep up with the bandwidth demands from their South Apopka FL internet customers.

The main advantage of a satellite provider is the access it affords homeowners in areas where DSL or cable broadband is not available. There is a vast area in rural America that depends on satellite for their internet needs. The new technology that is just being offered will enable these rural FL homes to enjoy the speeds previously limited to city dwelling DSL and Cable Broadband subscribers. As technology marches on, who knows, maybe there will be a internet satellite on homes in denser populated areas similar to the satellite TV expansion we have seen in the last 10 years.

Many people are confused as to exactly what DSL is. DSL is delivered to your home via the good old telephone wire. Yes, the wires running around the neighborhood. These same wires that have been used primarily for phone service. Probably much to many peoples surprise, only a fraction of the bandwidth is actually used for the telephone. This leaves you’re your local phone provider with a huge opportunity to provide you with high speed internet.

DSL is an affordable answer for many home owners who are looking for an internet connection to their home. One draw back to DSL service is that it does require a telephone line service provider. In other words to Have DSL you need a Land-line Phone provider. But don’t despair, the phone service internet providers realize many people today only have cell phones and do not need a landline service too. So within the last couple of years the internet providers have begun offering DSL without landline Phone service. The DSL internet providers call this a DRY LOOP. At first this option was a little pricey but as the competition among the South Apopka internet service providers has heated up recently, the prices have dropped. DSL can be a pretty neat alternative to Cable, as the price for internet service can be a little cheaper. Which Wireless Phone Company Has The Best Service?

Last Updated Aug 5, 2011 12:12 PM EDT

How good is your cell phone service? A new survey by Vocal Laboratories suggests that may be the wrong question; it’s probably more a matter of “how bad”?

Consider the all-important call satisfaction numbers. Those are defined as the number of customers who say they’re “very satisfied” with their wireless call.

    Here are the second-quarter scores:

    1. Verizon ” 66 percent
    2. Sprint ” 64 percent
    3. T-Mobile ” 60 percent
    4. AT T ” 56 percent

Essentially, customers are giving every company a failing grade. But that’s not the worst of it. Look closer at the results, and you’ll notice that a majority of the companies’ scores are falling.

For example, AT T is down from 66 percent from the same quarter a year ago, and off 13 percent from the previous quarter. T-Mobile is down five percentage points from last year; Sprint is off by four percentage points. Only Verizon’s scores rose – from 61 percent to 66, the highest in the survey, but still dreadful. It means more than one-third of customers aren’t satisfied with their call.

Vocal Labs says there’s no reason to panic. AT T’s precipitous drop was temporary, and subsequent numbers suggest it is back to levels from the previous year. (Full disclosure: I’m an AT T customer. I made five calls yesterday afternoon, and four were dropped. So I’m not convinced.)

The other key number is call resolution, or the percentage of customers whose problem was resolved on the call. Here, too, the numbers are disappointing.

    1. Sprint ” 69 percent
    2. AT T ” 66 percent
    2. Verizon ” 66 percent (tie)
    3. T-Mobile ” 65 percent

These are terrible scores. Nearly one-third of customers aren’t getting fixed, give or take a few percentage points. The trend is relatively flat over the previous four quarters. AT T is the only standout, rising six percentage points from the same quarter in 2010.

Sprint is down a percentage point from a year ago; T-Mobile is off three points. Verizon edged four points higher.

The ACSI assigns a score out of 100 based on its survey, and it confirms that wireless phone services are not loved by their customers.

    1. Sprint – 72
    1. Verizon ” 72 (tie)
    2. T-Mobile ” 70
    3. AT T ” 66

Is it any wonder customers are fed up with their wireless phone service? No amount of spin or explanation can keep a rational consumer from concluding that cell phone service is bad, and getting worse.

With the merger of AT T and T-Mobile looming, it’s difficult to image service improving any time soon.

What do you think? Please send me your stories of customer service (good and bad) received from a wireless phone company. Here’s my email address. And take a minute to vote, too.

Legit ways to save money on your TV, phone and internet bills

The CRTC wants Canadians to know that if they don’t like their cable TV deal, they should shop around. The broadcast regulator is even offering an online guide on how to do so.

It also pays to shop around for phone and internet service. There are a growing number of choices out there, including smaller competitors and online alternatives that could help you save big money on all your telco bills.

CBC News scoped out various options and highlights some here that are easy to obtain and, yes, perfectly legal.

    Get free cellphone service

Exceeding your cellular plan’s talk minutes every month?

Waterloo, Ont. companies Fongo and TextNow both have apps that offer free cellphone service using Wi-Fi or your mobile phone’s data connection.

Simply download either app to your cellphone at no charge and sign up. You’ll immediately get a phone number, voicemail and countrywide calling — for free.

TextNow also offers free unlimited texting in North America while Fongo charges $1.99 a month. Both apps also have low-cost long-distance deals.

Agnes Thomson, 80, in Powassan, Ont. downloaded a mobile app to get free cellphone service using her internet.

A word of warning, when relying on Wi-Fi, a weak, congested or spotty connection could lead to diminished or temporarily dead service.

But the hiccups don’t bother 80-year-old Agnes Thomson in Powassan, Ont. About a year and a half ago, she ditched her home phone and got a secondhand iPhone.

Thomson didn’t sign up for a cellular plan. Instead, she just uses the Fongo app and her home internet service.

Now, her only phone-related expense is two cents a minute to call family in Scotland.

“I enjoy it,” says Thomson. “I can talk for a while and won’t be getting a big bill.”

    Get cheap home phone service

Just can’t part with your landline? You might consider getting a VOIP (voice over internet protocol) system for your home phone. It enables you to make calls using the internet.

Companies like TekSavvy offer the system for a monthly fee, typically much lower than the cost of a traditional landline.

But you can score an even cheaper deal by purchasing a device like MagicJack or Ooma. You connect it to your home phone and your internet router, and get VOIP service plus features like voicemail for around $4 or less a month.

Stephen Weyman uses a device called MagicJack to get free home phone service that works via the internet. (Stephen Weyman)

Stephen Weyman in Moncton, N.B. has been using MagicJack for the past five years. He bought the device online, but you can also find it in stores like BestBuy for about $45. That includes a free year of service.

“It’s very easy to use and set up and it’s much cheaper than home phone service,” says Weyman, who runs the consumer tips website HowToSaveMoney .

He also says the service is reliable — as long as your internet doesn’t fail.

    Share your Netflix password

This tip may sound improper … but it’s not. Last month, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings declared that sharing your password for the streaming service is just fine.

He stated it’s something Netflix has to live with, because there’s so much legitimate password sharing going on. “So there’s no bright line,” on the issue, he said.

However, that doesn’t mean you can now share your service with your entire extended family.

A standard $9.99 Netflix plan allows watching on only two screens at the same time. An $11.99 premium plan allows for the maximum of four screens playing simultaneously.

    Explore streaming and antenna options

Still clinging to cable because Netflix just isn’t enough? You have a couple of other streaming service options: Bell CraveTV and Rogers Sportsnet Now.

Cineplex also offers a huge selection of movies that Canadians can download to rent or own.

To get the main Canadian networks for free, try an indoor or outdoor antenna. Indoor ones may pick up fewer channels, but they’re super easy to set up and can cost as little as $20.

But before splurging, Weyman recommends checking out the resource site TVFool. which helps you figure out which over the air channels are accessible in your area.

Weyman also points out that many Canadian networks — including specialty channels like Bravo, HGTV and The Comedy Network — have content available for free online. Weyman offers a comprehensive list on his website.

And if you don’t enjoy watching shows on your laptop, there are simple ways to transfer the content onto your TV.

Connect your laptop to your TV with an HDMI cable and you’ll be able to watch online content on your television. (The Source)

The easiest method is to buy an HDMI cable. retailing for around $20. Use it to connect your laptop or tablet to your television and any online video you play will show up on your TV screen.

For a wireless connection, Weyman suggests getting a Google Chromecast. which costs around $45. Plug the device into your TV set and you’ll be able to stream video onto your television, cable-free.

Shop around for TV and internet

There are a growing number of smaller providers offering Canadians TV, internet and home phone services at competitive prices.

Many people have heard about the growing company, TekSavvy which offers internet and home phone deals.

But there are other small companies offering competitive rates including for TV packages. For example, Zazeen. VMedia. and CIK Telecom offer the skinny basic TV package for well below the usual price of $25. Internet service is required and the companies only serve certain provinces.

You can also find internet deals from the big providers’ discount brands. Bell’s Virgin and Rogers’ Fido brands are both currently offering deals for unlimited high-speed home internet.

For help finding the cheapest plans for telco services in your area, check the price comparison website CompareMyRates for a rough idea of what’s available.

Keep in mind that while the site might show services available in your province, not all of them may be accessible in your community. You’ll still need to confirm availability with each provider.

Many Canadians are convinced they can get the best deals by bundling their products with just one company. But with all the options out there, you might find better prices by shopping around and taking the best offer for each individual service.

Can I process credit card orders through your shopping cart?

A merchant account allows you to accept credit cards as payment for goods or services. A payment gateway allows you to accept credit card payments in real-time over the iInternet. The payment gateway you use must be compatible with our shopping cart. To view a complete list of the payment gateways that are compatible with our shopping cart, please visit our Compatibility page.

Please note that your customers will not have to re-enter their address information once they reach the PayPal website.

Can I buy your shopping cart as software?

No. We only offer our shopping cart as a hosted service, which is a much more cost effective, reliable and convenient way to add shopping cart capabilities to your website.

What are the advantages to using your service over buying a shopping cart solution?

The primary advantage is cost. On the surface, it may seem more cost effective to buy shopping cart software and host it yourself but when you add up the yearly reoccurring costs involved with running a secure server, paying SSL certificate renewal fees, paying for software upgrades, not to mention all of the time you will invest maintaining the entire system, the cost of buying and hosting a shopping cart solution far exceeds our service fees.

Installing and maintaining a shopping cart requires a lot of time and highly technical skills. With our shopping cart, you don’t have to worry about installing programs, SSL software, SSL certificates or a database management system, which are all needed to power a shopping cart. You also won’t have to manage the never-ending process of keeping all of these applications up to date with the latest security patches. We have a full-time Systems Administrator and Software Development team that will take care of everything for you, so you can focus on the success of your business.

Will your shopping cart work with my affiliate tracking system?

Most affiliate tracking systems work in the same way, which makes the majority of them compatible with our shopping cart. If your affiliate tracking system requires that you place HTML code on your order receipt or Thank you page, then it will definitely work with our shopping cart.

Will my customers see advertisements or your company name on shopping cart pages?

Absolutely not. We do not use your shopping cart account as a way to promote our company or any other company’s products or services.

Does it matter what I sell on my website?

No. You can sell any product or service, as long as you are not in violation of our Terms of Service .

Can I use your shopping cart if I don t have my own domain name?

Yes. You could even add our shopping cart to your website if you only have a one page site under some other domain (e.g.

What is required for me to use your shopping cart?

You need a website and must be able to access the HTML code used to build it. It doesn’t matter if you use FrontPage, Dreamweaver or any other type of website building tool, as long as you can add a few lines of HTML code next to each item you sell. You DO NOT have to be an HTML expert.

For setup instructions, please visit our Setup Information page.

    Do you charge transaction fees?

No. You only pay one flat fee monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or yearly, depending on the service plan you choose. If you accept credit cards, your credit card processor will charge transaction fees, but there are no such fees associated with using our shopping cart.

No. However, you can insert custom messages (written in any language) into each page of the shopping cart. You can also use any currency symbol you like.

What Types of Graduate Degrees in Internet Marketing Can I Earn?

Internet marketing is an emerging industry still in its developing stages. As such, you won’t find many graduate programs offering degrees specifically in the field. Some colleges and universities offer master’s degrees in Internet marketing and master’s degrees in business administration with a focus on Internet marketing. You can also pursue a graduate certificate or an executive certificate in Internet marketing. While no Ph.D. programs in Internet marketing are available, you may find doctoral programs in business administration or marketing generally.

    Online programs are very rare

Lower level degree, coursework in general business, marketing or business experience

Can I Earn a Degree Online?

Very few Ph.D. programs in marketing are offered in an online format. Those that are may typically be found through private, for-profit schools. You may find more master’s degree programs and graduate certificate programs available online, allowing you to study at your own pace. Some universities may include all coursework through an interactive course management application, while others may require that you attend select courses, seminars or workshops on campus. Programs that incorporate work-study opportunities into the curricula may allow you to use experience through your current employer to satisfy the requirements.

    Are There Any Prerequisites?

You’ll typically need a bachelor’s degree to enroll in a master’s program. Common prerequisite coursework includes general business topics, such as financial accounting and organizational behavior. Some programs may require that you have previous marketing or business experience prior to acceptance. You may only need a bachelor’s degree to enroll in a Ph.D. program, though some may require a master’s degree in a relevant field of study, such as business administration or marketing.

    What Will I Learn?

Whether you study general marketing at the master’s or Ph.D. level, you may relate your studies to aspects of online selling and advertising. Common courses teach planning and implementation and analysis of merchandising strategies, which also pertain to organizing an effective Internet campaign. If you already have basic Internet skills, learning advanced marketing management and business principles can help you build a successful online advertising plan.

Programs with Internet marketing courses show you how to implement your advertising strategies into an e-commerce, e-mail and website marketing effort. Broadband DSL and ADSL Internet Access Technology – ISPreview UK #dsl,adsl,sdsl,vdsl,adsl2,digital #subscriber #line, isp, internet #access, connection #speed,pstn,24mbps,8mbps,pots,phone #line, copper #line

    Broadband ISP Technology

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line ) is a common technology for bringing high-bandwidth (broadband) information to homes and small businesses over standard (copper) telephone lines. DSL comes in many different flavours, such as SDSL and ADSL2. The most common forms of DSL in the UK, ADSL (Asymmetric DSL) and ADSL2+, splits a single telephone line into separate voice and data channels, allowing you to make a phone call while surfing the Internet at the same time.

ADSL offers speeds of up to 8Mbps (Megabits per second) downstream and 448Kbps upstream (832Kbps on business lines). The technology is cheap, fast and easy to install (doesn’t require an engineer) and reasonably reliable, although performance can suffer due to ISP congestion, distance from the local exchange (shorter lines are faster but anything over 6.5km is usually slow), poor home wiring and interference from other electrical devices. Each connection is fixed to a specific telephone line.

The latest ADSL2+ (ITU G.992.5 ) technology is capable of pushing download speeds at up to 24Mbps and uploads at up to 1.4Mbps, it also supports port bonding (linking several lines together for faster speeds) and has an improved range over ADSL. Both ADSL and ADSL2+ are “best efforts ” broadband services, which means that bandwidth is shared between many users and can be highly variable – especially over long distances and at off-peak times (i.e. busy afternoons will slow the performance). The following graph shows what impact distance can have on speeds.

Users of these services should learn to understand common router statistics, which can help in diagnosing line problems. Figures for the following items will change depending on your line condition (e.g. expect them to be worse during thunderstorms that will cause extra interference):

    ADSL/ADSL2+ Router Terms and Statistics

    * Line Profile / Sync Speed

This is the speed (usually in Kbps) at which your router connects to the local telephone exchange. The actual performance of your line will usually be around 20% less than this, possibly even lower due to ISP-side limits or environmental factors (e.g. interference from Christmas tree lights, microwaves and AC adaptors).

High attenuation usually means you live further from your local exchange, thus lower is better (e.g. an attenuation of 60dB might give you a best speed of around 2Mbps).

    * SNR / Signal to Noise Ratio (dB)

A high SNR usually means that faster speeds are possible and upgrading to a faster connection will often cause the SNR to drop. SNR can be improved by installing a special filtered faceplate on the line, such as BT’s iPlate (Broadband Accelerator) device (not to be confused with Splitters / MicroFilters).

Related to the SNR above, an SNR Margin is a measure of the difference between your current SNR and the SNR that is required to keep a reliable connection speed. SNR Margins tend to range from around 6db to 12db, with higher being better. The figure will fluctuate during the day, especially at peak times. Note that significant fluctuations (e.g. going from 8db to 4db) may cause connection problems. It is sometimes possible to tweak this figure and keep it higher, depending on what make of router you have. Using your homes mastersocket for the broadband router is also helpful. Elsewhere some businesses still use Symmetric DSL (SDSL) technology, which is similar to HDSL via a single twisted-pair wire and can carry 1.544Mbps (U.S. and Canada) or 2.048Mbps (Europe) in each direction on a duplex line (the speed is the same in both directions). In addition, those looking for information on VDSL and VDSL2 (FTTC) services should look under our Hybrid-Fibre section above as this is somewhat of a mixed technology.

Furthermore BT has also introduced a special long-reach style of DSL called Broadband Enabling Technology (BET), which is based off Symmetric Hi-Speed Digital Subscriber Line (SHDSL). This is designed to deliver speeds of up to 2Mbps into rural areas that can reside up to 12km away from their local telephone exchange, where normal DSL services would fail. But this method is extremely expensive (costing up to 1,094 +vat to install), poorly supported by ISPs and requires two phone lines (twisted pairs) to achieve the best performance.
