Check out our Video Resources. Exploring topics such as the Resurrection of Christ, Passover, and What a Christian Should Think About the Modern State of Israel.

On Friday, December 23, the United Nations (UN) Security Council unanimously passed Resolution 2334 declaring the Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria, designated as the West Bank, to be illegal. According to the resolution, these communities have “no legal validity.” This means that all of eastern Jerusalem, including everything within the Jewish quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem, is considered Palestinian territory.

Brush fires have destroyed hundreds of homes and displaced thousands of families in the north and central regions of Israel. While most of the deadly blazes have been extinguished, the work to be done is far from over. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to rebuild the homes that were lost in the fire and replant the forests that were burned. If you would like to stand with Israel and aid them in their effort to recover from this act of terrorism, you can make a donation to help the Israeli fire victims by giving to the Fire Relief Fund. Your contributions will provide help and comfort to Israelis during this difficult time.

This year, as we celebrate God’s love this season through His Son—the Messiah, His greatest gift to the world—my hope is that you will find a way through this catalog to touch the life of someone who needs your help.

It is the most critical question you will ever answer. How would you answer it? Can you answer it correctly?

Nursing & Patient Care Services

A Message from the Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer

Since its beginning in 1890, Mount Sinai Beth Israel (MSBI) has been one of New York City’s premier hospitals. Located in the dynamic Lower East Side of Manhattan, the professionals of MSBI Nursing & Patient Care Services are privileged to serve some of the most diverse communities of New York. A large part of what makes MSBI such a superb institution is our gifted nursing and clinical staff.

All of Mount Sinai Beth Israel’s patient care staff are among the most educated, dynamic, articulate and compassionate practitioners in the nursing field today. They bring a spirit of professionalism and clinical excellence to every facet of nursing and patient care. Our team is as diverse as our patient population, adding vigor to our environment of care, and contributing to a culture of tolerance and respect.

The hospital of today is extremely complicated. Sophisticated treatments and technologies continue to grow alongside an intricate, and sometimes frustrating insurance landscape. In this challenging environment, MSBI clinical professionals act as guiding navigators of care through their commitment to relationships, quality and excellence. Everything at Mount Sinai Beth Israel – our people, practice, technology, research and education – focuses on delivering care that is of the highest quality, safest, and best value to you, our patient.

Because you are at the center of everything that we do, we work 24/7 to ensure that we care for you safely, effectively and compassionately. To stay on top of best practice, we continually measure ourselves against national initiatives, like the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), the IHI 100,000 lives campaign, and various patient satisfaction analysis systems.

Much of our attention is focused on issues that directly impact your health. We want you to improve under our care, so we’re constantly working to better how we monitor and treat you. We’re constantly implementing quality improvement programs in areas like preventing you from falling, stopping infections from happening, and making sure that we practice top-of-the-line skin care.

Our patient care team is well-educated and well-qualified. As tech-savvy critical thinkers, each member is vital to the success of our award-winning care. You’ll see that MSBI nurses and patient care staff collaborate and communicate on your behalf to the doctors, social workers, assistive staff, and other many other multidisciplinary team members, who all work together for you. MSBI patient care staff regularly engages with educators, mentors, preceptors and each other. In other words, they are continually learning and growing.

We know that spending time in the hospital is never easy. With that said, we’re prepared and grateful that you’ve chosen MSBI for your care. As our hospital motto encourages, always know that you can – Just Ask Me! – I’m happy to help.

Madelyn Pearson
Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer

Palliative care is a medical specialty focused on treating the symptoms, pain and stress of a serious illness for patients and their families. It provides an added layer of support for patients at all ages and at all stages of any serious or advanced disease, whatever the prognosis. Central to this care is the communication and coordination of treatment options to maximize quality of life for patients, according to the individual patient’s goals and aspirations.

Mount Sinai has embraced palliative care as a service to patients and their families. Under the direction of the Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute, the inpatient program has three interdisciplinary consultation teams. Patients with complex needs can be cared for around the clock in the 13-bed Wiener Family Palliative Care Unit.

The inpatient unit and the consultation teams are each staffed by an attending physician, nurse practitioner, social worker, and a post-graduate fellow. Additional supportive care is provided by a chaplain, registered nurses, six licensed massage therapists, a yoga specialist and an art therapist. The Hertzberg Institute also provides an active and expanding community palliative care program.

Hand-in-hand with our dedicated patient care, the Hertzberg Institute has a mission focused on research, education of the next generation of health care professionals and the development of new models of palliative care delivery.

We invite you to meet our practitioners, learn from palliative care advocates and read about our groundbreaking research through the stories below.
