Dr John Smith: Cransley Hospice staff can hold their heads up high

Our heads go down and we mutter something like “it was nothing, anyone could have done it”.

That may be the case, but it generally isn’t, for we have made the choice to care about someone, when others might have walked away.

So it’s heads up and a big thank you for saying that.

This week it happened to me. I hadn’t seen the lady for 16 years when she said “hello”. To be honest I could not recognise her and said so. No worries because it was a long time ago when her mum was a patient in the hospice. Sixteen years on and she wanted to thank me for the care that was given.

She hadn’t forgotten and did not want to forget. What was a difficult time became a good time, and out of that time came even more good because some time later she began to work in the hospice too. It made sense of the tragedy and the memories that she has are good ones. There are no regrets.

The word hospice literally means a resting place on a journey. In the sense that we use it today the journey is coming to an end.

To rest we need support and good symptom control, to rest we need to know that our family and friends are being cared for, to rest we need people to listen to us, to hear our fears, to hear us say thank you for the life that we have been given and, yes, to be able to express our regrets for what we have struggled with, for the wrongs we may have done, to seek forgiveness and to be forgiven.

Hospice is often the place where we begin to make sense of our lives, a sort of summing up of what we have been, what we are and what we mean to others.

It is when this happens that people express their thanks. And it is not a transitory thank you either, it is almost lifelong. Yes, I can hold my head up high and Cransley Hospice and its staff should too.

John Adams, Esquire, graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law with a Juris Doctorate Degree. Upon taking the Bar Exam, Attorney John Adams was recruited to manage the Maryland State Senate election campaign for Richard Bennett, who is now a Federal Judge. Shortly thereafter, Attorney John Adams was appointed to the position of Assistant State’s Attorney and worked as a prosecutor for nearly three (3 ) years. It was in that capacity that he fully trained and acquired the experience and skills for becoming a successful litigator.

Attorney John Adams was invited by a prominent Law Firm to leave the prosecutor’s office and begin private practice. Attorney John Adams private practice flourished. A few years later, Steve Braun, Esquire, who was the elected State’s Attorney who appointed Attorney John Adams to his position as a prosecutor, had himself entered private practice and started a partnership. Steve Braun, Esquire, proposed for Attorney John Adams to join him in that practice. The firm was named Farmer, Braun and Adams. Attorney John Adams business continued to grow, so he opened his own law firm, which he has now held for over twenty (20) years. The corporate name is Adams law Firm, Chtd. d.b.a The law Offices of John Adams.

Attorney John Adams is a superior litigator concentrating his law practice on defending criminal and serious traffic cases in the District and Circuit Courts all over the state of Maryland, as well as in the District of Columbia, and in Federal Court.

Attorney John Adams has handled every type of criminal and serious traffic case. Traffic offenses have included manslaughter and homicide by motor vehicle while intoxicated, DUI, fleeing and eluding, driving while revoked, driving while suspended, driving without a license, and driving without insurance. Criminal defenses have included murder, manslaughter, distribution, possession with intent to distribute, cds possession, weapons offenses, prostitution, arson, sex crimes, robbery, theft, assault and battery, vandalism, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and child abuse.

Thank you cards are always pouring into the office from former clients who are so happy and grateful for the results achieved in their cases. Fully prepared for trial, Mr. Adams leveraged his trial threat convincingly enough in negotiations with the prosecutor and secured drastic concessions that resulted in the case being dropped to a simple misdemeanor and the client received no jail time.
  3. Client was charged with two counts of solicitation to commit murder. Mr. Adams got it reduced to a misdemeanor and a suspended sentence.
  4. Client was charged with a drive by shooting. Mr. Adams won the jury trial and the client was spared what would have been a heavy prison sentence.

Deutsche Bank cuts ties with 3,400 clients in trading business

By Arno Schuetze | FRANKFURT

FRANKFURT Deutsche Bank’s Global Markets division will cut ties with about 3,400 clients in its debt and equities sales activities, the bank said on Friday. Deutsche Bank will immediately cease debt sales services to some financial institutions and hedge funds as well as equity sales activities, the execution of equities trading orders and equity structuring activities for some clients, a spokesman said, citing an internal memo.

Germany’s biggest bank is looking to shed clients that cost more to service than they bring in in returns as part of efforts to turn around its business and boost its capital.

Deutsche Bank Chief Executive John Cryan is stepping up the restructuring process as the bank finalises talks with U.S. justice authorities over a multi-billion dollar fine related to U.S. mortgages.

In October 2015, Cryan had said at a strategy presentation that Deutsche Bank would reduce the number of clients in its Global Markets and Corporate & Investment Banking divisions by about 50 percent.

“We expect to off-board about half of the current list of clients as the economic returns in these relationships are inadequate to us,” he said at the time. He also said that 80 percent of the investment bank’s income came from 30 percent of clients.

Deutsche Bank is still among the top 5 trading houses in debt and top 10 in equities globally, according to research firm Coalition. But the bank has lost market share as it retreats from a period of expansion, in which it had focused mainly on revenue growth and less on profitability.

Michelle Dockery grieving after fiance John Dineen dies

Michelle Dockery’s fiance John Dineen has died in hospital aged 34 after suffering a long-term illness.

The Downton Abbey actress, whose birthday is today, had been in a relationship with Mr Dineen since 2013 after the pair were introduced by actor Allen Leech.

Mr Dineen died in Cork s Marymount Hospital on Sunday morning after being diagnosed with cancer, it has been reported.

The hospital is known for its pain management facilities in Ireland, specialising in palliative care services for terminally ill patients. He is understood to have been treated in London before returning home to Ireland.

A funeral service is expected to take place in Cork on Wednesday.

Dockery is reported to have flown back from the US to be with Mr Dineen and his family in his final hours, visiting the Marymount Hospice.

She was due to celebrate her 34th birthday today, December 15.

A spokesman for Michelle Dockery said: “The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received but would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private.

The actress has recently been touring the United States with the cast of Downton Abbey as part of a publicity tour for the show.

Days ago she appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Watch What Happens Live as part of her promotional obligations.

She did not feature in the cast’s latest photograph, taken by Allen Leech on December 11 outside the White House.

In October, she unexpectedly pulled out of London play Les Liaisons Dangereuses . At the time, no reason was given for her departure.

It is understood Mr Dineen has been battling illness for months.

A senior director with FTI Consulting, he grew up on a farm near Cork and is believed to have proposed to Dockery in February.

The couple had been photographed together at the Venice Film Festival, Wimbledon and at polo s Cartier Queen s Cup, but had rarely spoken of their relationship.

In 2014, the actress said: “I have a wonderful man in my life from Ireland. We were introduced by Allen Leech. That’s all you need to know.”

In an interview with Red Magazine, published this month, she spoke of the security her relationship brought her, confiding: “I ve got people around me who I can turn to for advice: my mum, and my partner, John. But, at this stage, my instincts are pretty good.”

Leech, who plays Tom Branson in the ITV period drama, has said of introducing them: “John’s like family to me and I knew he’d really get on with Michelle.

“She’s a great girl – probably as far from Lady Mary as you could imagine.”
