If you re a Beatles fan, there is NO PLACE else you ll want to stay! When they say the Cavern Club is around the corner, it is literally around the corner. It s a doable walk to dockside, too. The Beatles theme is carried out throughout the hotel. The rates are very reasonable, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The included breakfast is HUGE, and there are lots of restaurants in the area.

Great Beatles experience with classy atmosphere

I m a Beatles nut, so I probably would have stayed here even if it was a hostel! But it s actually really well done. Beyond all the pictures and references to the Beatles around, it s a classic, pleasant, well run, big city hotel. This is nice, because the theme could have easily made a hotel a bit obnoxious and tacky. Great location too, the Cavern club is on the adjacent block. the waterfront and shopping are all very close as well. We didn t eat at the restaurant, but it looked pretty cool and there is a bar full of clever Beatles songs and lyric drinks. Our room was pretty big and nice and clean. very large bathroom! Definitely a great experience in Liverpool and a must do if you are a Beatles fan!

We took my in-laws for a few days at this top class hotel. Everything about was perfect from the suited concierge to the door man in top hat and tails. The food was brilliant and the suites were presented beautifully. Would definitely stay again. The staff were all professional and helpful and polite. We had balcony suite rooms that gave impressive views of the city.

Although this place is a little expensive it is worth the money just for the experience. Our room was large with a sitting area and good size comfortable bed and a large bathroom with shower and bath. It was very clean but there wasn t much choice on the beverage tray. However there were complimentary bottles of sparkling and still water and packets of Hard Days Night slippers. A nice touch was the TV screen which said welcome and our names. There was a control panel over each side of the bed that you could control the temperature of the room and the lights and other features without leaving the bed. Every room is Beatle themed. The music channel on the TV had a good selection of Beatles songs and their music is piped through to all the public areas in the hotel including the two bars and the restaurant. There are some fantastic black and white pictures of The Beatles on the walls including huge ones going down each staircase. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We tried one of the Beatles themed cocktails in one of the bars and in the front bar we bought a bottle of wine which was quite expensive but each bottle has an image of one of The Beatles so it is a nice little keepsake. The location is right in the centre of Liverpool and just round the corner from The Cavern.

Hotels in Liverpool – A Historic Cultural Hotspot

Of course, Liverpool is known the world over for being the birthplace of the Beatles, as well as plenty of other bands that stormed the pop charts. The docks on the glittering River Mersey are thriving tourist hotspots – striking brick and stone enclaves packed with bars, restaurants, and world-class museums. For the sports enthusiast, it is home to Liverpool FC, the iconic football club based at the famous Anfield stadium, as well as Everton FC.

Attractions to visit in Liverpool

You can also enjoy tours such as the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour that visit landmarks celebrated by the Beatles songs Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane, as well as the childhood homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It also takes in the Casbah Coffee Club, where George, John and Paul played early on in their careers as a band called the Quarrymen, before ending at the famous Cavern Club.

Liverpool’s two cathedrals are located at each end of the appropriately named Hope Street, and are well worth a visit. Construction of the Anglican Cathedral was started in 1904 and the classical stone building took 74 years to complete, while the Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral was redesigned after the Second World War as a modern circular concrete building featuring works of modern art and colourful stained-glass windows.

The best food and restaurants in Liverpool

Liverpool’s Chinatown, the oldest Chinese district in Europe, is a must-visit. In 2000 Liverpool’s twin city in China, Shanghai, gifted it with the largest Chinese Arch outside of China. This magnificent 13.5m tall edifice was erected astride Nelson Street, which is lined with restaurants offering a range of delectable Chinese and pan-Asian dishes. In nearby Bold Street you’ll find Peruvian cuisine, Japanese delicacies and Italian seafood restaurants.

The city centre also boasts a cosmopolitan mix of eating-houses, while at the Albert Dock you’ll be able to savour seafood dishes while enjoying river views and even rooftop dining.

For a cool, bohemian vibe of wine bars, trendy cafés and independent fusion restaurants, head to Lark Lane on the outskirts of the city. A wide variety of international cuisines are represented here, and menus feature mouth-watering dishes from North African, Asian and Mediterranean cuisine.

Finally, be sure to get a Liverpool Pass, which gets you a discount at a number of selected restaurants, bars and attractions in the city, allowing you to “Eat, See, Save and Repeat”.

How to get around in Liverpool

Once inside the city, you have plenty of options of getting around:

By bus – The Merseytravel bus network provides a fully accessible bus service with many ticket options for good value. The main bus terminals are at Queen Square and the Liverpool ONE centre.

By train – There are four underground stations in the city centre that make travel across the city quick and easy; James Street, Lime Street, Moorfields and Liverpool Central. The Day Saver and the Merseyrail Family Ticket give you the option of affordable, convenient rail travel between the 66 stations around the Liverpool area.

Cycling – Bike & Go and CityBike hire schemes operate in the city centre, allowing you the convenience of cycling around the city without having to bring your own bike. Cycle parking is provided at most venues and bikes can be taken free on ferries and trains.

By Ferry – Merseytravel operates Mersey Ferries across the river to the Wirral Peninsula, as well as along the Manchester Ship Canal.

Weather & Seasonality – When to visit Liverpool

Beatles fans should note that tours to the restored childhood homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney run daily from March to October.

Winter is low season, and it’s at this time of year that you’ll find some of the best Liverpool hotel deals.

    What people are saying

    Liverpool hotels

I have stayed at The Liner many times and have never been disappointed with anything. The rooms are spotlessly clean & very comfortable, the facilities are excellent and the staff are marvellous. From the checking in desk, where Paulina greeted us with a cheerful smile, the chambermaids who always say good morning

We stayed there for 2 night’s Very clean handy for the train station and the shop’s couldn’t fault the hotel in any way hope to stop again shortly. excellent breakfast very clean room’s excellent bar next-door which we enjoyed drinks and a lovely meal

A very good hotel. Easy access to Lime Street Station. Rooms were very clean and staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. Our room overlooked the station and we could hear the train announcements but this was not a problem for us.

Just had 3 days at The Liner. Lovely room. Had breakfast which was lovely. Very close to train station and easy to get to main attractions. Had to ask for a new wifi code every morning which is a bit unusual. No complaints. Would recommend.

    Liverpool – s Adelphi Hotel handed a zero-star food hygiene rating –

    #

Liverpool s Adelphi Hotel handed a zero-star food hygiene rating

The Britannia Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool, one of Britannia Hotels flagship properties.

Liverpool’s landmark Adelphi Hotel has a zero-star food hygiene rating.

The hotel, which came under fire in November after a customer shared photos of his “filthy” 150-a-night room. has been told its kitchens are in need of urgent improvement.

Liverpool council environmental health teams slapped the city centre hotel with the lowest rating in an inspection in September.

Food hygiene and safety was marked as “poor”, structural compliance – whether the building is fit for purpose – classed as “bad” and the inspectors had “no confidence” in the hotel’s management.

Inspectors looked at whether food is prepared hygienically, whether the kitchens are fit for purpose and how well food safety records are kept.

The council says an investigation is now underway into the hotel. Health inspectors have powers to serve an improvement notice or could even prosecute if the hygiene breaches are found to be that serious.

A spokesman said: “We are in discussions with the Adelphi with the aim of supporting them to address the issues, but as there is an ongoing investigation we can’t comment further at this stage.”

The Adelphi’s two restaurants, Jenny’s Carvery and Crompton’s, have become the subject of mixed reviews online.

Jenny’s, which has a three-star rating on TripAdvisor, is described as “a place to avoid”, with some diners warning “chaos!” and “don’t go there”.

Some customers, however, described the food as “yummy” and “better than it looked”.

On December 1, ‘Silverback97’ from Glasgow wrote: “Do not be tempted by this place, it is terrible!

“If we were asked to pay for this meal we would have refused.”

The hotel, which is a Grade II listed building is more than 100 years old and was once known as “the most luxurious hotel outside of London,” attracting big names such as Laurel and Hardy, Frank Sinatra and Bob Dylan.

    The Adelphi Hotel

During the 20th century, when the city was used as a major arrival and departure point for ocean liners, wealthy passengers would stay at The Adelphi before embarking to North America.

But the hotel’s reputation has been tarnished by criticism.

In November, Peter Moss took pictures of 150-a-night room 578 after a “dreadful” stay.

He claimed the room had broken furniture, the window would not close and that it was dusty and dirty with damp and condensation stains.

Mr Moss claimed that his email of complaint and follow-up letter have been ignored by Adelphi bosses.

Britannia, which owns the hotel, was last year named by Which? magazine as the worst hotel group in Britain following a survey.

    The company declined to comment.

    We liked Liverpool.

We liked Liverpool. It is a lively city with plenty to see and a stay of 3 4 nights would be about right. We did a ride on the Mersey ferries, also a Beatle tour and drove to southport and surrounding countryside and enjoyed the local flavour. We also walked around Albert and queen dock several times and ate at the restaurants.did a tour of anfield stadium too which was great.

20 of us ate at Brown

20 of us ate at Brown s and the meal was wonderful. My wish is that we had been able to spend longer than the weekend as we attended a two-day event so will definitely be going back to look around Liverpool and visit some of the sights – such friendly people.

    Cliff

Fantastic city visited before and the local people are so.

Fantastic city visited before and the local people are so friendly. Plan well in advance as hotels do get booked up especially at the weekends. Best time for a few days if possible is during the week.Just explore the city and enjoy.

    The Beatles Story

From their humble beginnings to the heady heights of their world fame and beyond, The Beatles Story brings the life, times and music of the Fab Four to life via photos, 4D animation, ‘Living History’ audio guides and more.

    The World Museum

The World Museum is a giant smorgasbord of natural and cultural history, past and present. The Planetarium, the Aquarium, the Bug House, Egyptian mummies, meteorites from Mars and a shedload of other wonders will enthral you all day long.

    Chinatown

Liverpool and China go way back, which is why there’s a massive dragon-embellished structure guarded by two bronze lions in the city centre. Imperial Arch marks the entrance to Europe’s longest standing Chinatown – the spot for Chinese restaurants and supermarkets.

    Ferry ‘cross the Mersey

You’re not allowed to leave Liverpool until you’ve belted out Gerry and The Pacemakers on one of the daily river cruises that traverse the Mersey river. Catch it to travel to and from Albert Dock’s attractions and, if you’re staying at one our Liverpool business hotels, to commute between Pier Head and Seacombe.

    Merseyside Maritime Museum

Not one but three different museums live inside the Merseyside Maritime Museum. Learn about the Port of Liverpool’s seafaring prowess through a collection of fascinating objects at the Maritime Museum. Put your detective head on at Seized! Here, you’ll get the lowdown on how to catch smugglers as well as discover some of the best and worst smuggling tactics. The International Slavery Museum takes a sombre looks at slavery past and present.

    Tate Liverpool

There’s no shortage of contemporary and classic world-class art to take in at Tate Liverpool. But that’s not all. It hosts a cutting-edge programme of talks, tours, courses and workshops for art enthusiasts big and small. The cafe and shop are worth a visit too.

    Hotels in Liverpool

    Best Liverpool Hotels

It’s hard to pick what Liverpool’s most famous for: its rich musical heritage, its maritime history, or lavish structures like the Royal Liver Building, with its vast clock towers bearing the legendary Liver Birds. Of course, the city is known the world over for being the birthplace of the Beatles, as well as plenty of other bands that stormed the pop charts, while the docks on the glittering River Mersey are thriving tourist hotspots – striking brick and stone enclaves packed with bars, restaurants, and world-class museums.

Lovers of the beautiful game will want to pay homage at Anfield Stadium, the cherished home of Liverpool FC. It’s one of football’s most historic crucibles, dating back to 1884 – look out for the bronze statue of Liverpool’s great manager Bill Shankly. If music’s more your thing, you’ll want to make a bee-line for The Beatles Story, an immersive museum dedicated to the Fab Four which features a replica of the Cavern Club (where they first made their name), rare photo galleries, effects-filled installations and more. It’s based in Albert Dock, which is where you’ll also find Tate Liverpool, historic Grade I listed warehouses, and a tempting array of eateries with riverside views. Top pop and rock acts as well as stand-up comedy can be enjoyed at the Echo Arena, while Aintree Racecourse is famed as the home of the Grand National.

    Hotels in Liverpool

As you’d expect from one of the most popular cities in Britain, there are Liverpool hotels to suit every budget. The major names are all here: think large, gleaming complexes complete with swimming pools, 24 hour gyms, and steam rooms. They’re ideal for families and business travelers alike, although if you’re looking to cut costs you’ll also find a wide variety of cheaper accommodation in the city center and beyond. Couples and those just looking for something a bit different can opt for one of the many boutique hotels in Liverpool, some of which ooze a quirky charm of their own.

For many visitors, a hotel in Liverpool city center makes the ideal base for a holiday here. After all, it puts you within walking distance of stunning landmarks like St George’s Hall (one of Europe’s grandest Neoclassical buildings) and Liverpool Cathedral (second only to St Peter’s in the Vatican, in terms of size). You’ll also be able to amble over to Pier Head and Albert Dock whenever you feel like it. If you’d prefer more rustic pleasures, the Wirral Peninsula boasts a rugged coastline and tranquil villages, while Southport is the quintessential British beach resort, complete with golden sands, buzzing nightspots, and numerous golf courses.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is one of the major international gateways for the city, with flights to and from cities across Europe. It’s only a short taxi or bus ride from Liverpool itself, although if you’re coming in on a long haul flight the chances are you’ll land at Manchester International Airport, which is around an hour away. You can also take one of the famous ferries across the Mersey if you’re coming in from Ireland or the Isle of Man, while Lime Street Station offers convenient rail links with cities such as London, Manchester, and Leeds.

Top hotels and more in Liverpool

    Liverpool Hotels

Liverpool is one of Britain’s, nay the world’s, most vibrant and exciting cities, and is an incredibly rewarding place to visit. The city is a former maritime centre located in the north-west of England. With a history stretching back over 800 years and a stunning setting at the mouth of the River Mersey, Liverpool has something for everyone.

The city’s famous music scene has seen it labelled the ‘World Capital City of Pop’ by the Guinness Book of World Records, and it is still a hotbed of exciting new sounds. Add to this the beautiful Georgian architecture, its fabulous shops and restaurants and its wealth of cultural attractions and you’ll never be stuck for great things to see and do while staying at one of our Liverpool hotels.

    Maritime Mercantile City

Liverpool achieved wealth and fame as an important trading city in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its former status is reflected in the many extravagant and grand buildings constructed at the time. A walk around the city is the best way to take in all of its marvelous architecture.

The Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City constitutes the city’s UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites. These include the old Pier Head, the Albert Dock and William Brown Street. All are within walking distance from one another and each is worth a visit.

    Merseybeat and the Fab Four

Liverpool is well known as the home of The Beatles, probably the world’s best-loved band. The Beatles epitomised the Merseybeat sound that came out of the city in the late 50s and early 60s and saw Liverpool bands top musical charts the world over.

Music is still integral to Liverpool’s identity and there are plenty of excellent venues in which to watch live bands and orchestras. The Bluecoat, in the city centre, contains a state-of-the-art performance space showcasing talent from an array of creative disciplines including dance, music and visual art.

For diehard fans of the Fab Four, The Beatles Story, in the Albert Dock, is the world’s only museum that is entirely devoted to the band. The museum contains rare memorabilia and other artefacts and is well worth a visit, even if you’re more of a Rolling Stones fan!

    Art and culture

In 2008, Liverpool was awarded the title of European Capital of Culture, and this legacy still continues to this day. The city has an incredible array of museums and galleries filled with exciting collections and exhibitions.

The Tate Liverpool’s collection of modern art is on a par with its partner institutions, while the World Museum Liverpool houses one of the finest Egyptian permanent exhibitions in the world.

    Excellent restaurants

As the home of Europe’s oldest Chinatown, it is unsurprising that Liverpool is a foodie paradise. If you’re after some of that aforementioned Chinese food, The Tea House is a great place for a tasty and affordable meal.
