What is WHM (Web Host Manager)? Support Portal #manage #hosting

What is WHM (Web Host Manager)?

Web Host Manager, or WHM, is a powerful program that allows administrative access to the back end of cPanel. There are two versions that Host Gator uses. Reseller accounts get basic WHM. Dedicated Servers and VPS accounts get root WHM (also called rWHM), which has features that require root access to the server enabled. Resellers can not have rWHM.

Why would I want WHM?

WHM gives you a lot more control and flexibility when managing either a few very popular and resource intensive sites, or large number of sites. On top of giving you the ability to sell hosting services to other people, WHM also gives you the option to create and manage multiple cPanels. There are lots of really good reasons, if you have business oriented or popular sites, to place them on separate cPanels. Here are a few of the more common reasons we see:

  • If one of your sites is hacked or attacked, the odds that the hacker can get into your other sites is dramatically reduced, which increases your security.
  • There is no way for someone to tell if accounts on different cPanels are attached to the same WHM account, which increases your privacy.
  • If you have multiple sites that need to take credit cards, using WHM saves you a lot of time, stress, and money. To be able to process credit cards you need an SSL certificate. To have an SSL certificate you must have a dedicated IP address, and you can only have one dedicated IP address per cPanel. If you are running multiple websites that need to be able to take credit cards, a Reseller account is much easier (and either less expensive or equal in cost – the break even point is two websites) to use to manage multiple cPanels than have to manage multiple accounts.
  • You have the ability to monitor and adjust your bandwidth and disk space, which can be key to keeping a quickly growing or popular site from being suspended or going down due to bandwidth overages. Since you can adjust your bandwidth and only upgrade when you really need it, this can dramatically reduce your costs.
  • Managing a large number of domains in one cPanel can be frustrating, especially if you update the files regularly. While we allow unlimited domains on a shared cPanel account, that does not mean it is always pleasant to work on that many domains in one cPanel.
  • You need to have several web sites that take credit cards, and each one needs it’s own cPanel for it’s own dedicated IP address.

What WHM Does:

WHM gives you a suite of tools to easily do the following things:

  • Create, delete, and suspend your cPanel accounts.
  • Manage and monitor your sites (password resets).
  • Access to check and change all of your domains’ DNS zones.
  • The ability to configure your own customers’ support requests through cPanel.
  • Permission to check the server information and status.
  • Ability to create your own default page when you create a new account.
  • Access to customize your hosting and control panel with extensive branding.
  • Ability to change your client domain names and user names.
  • Hop between every cPanel on your account and access/change anything that does not require SQL access.

Root WHM users get more tools, as well.

AdWords Management: What it Takes to Run a Successful AdWords Campaign #adwords

AdWords Management: What it Takes to Run a Successful AdWords Campaign

Building an AdWords account from scratch is labor intensive enough to send even the most capable business owner into a panic.

Actually managing an AdWords account is another beast entirely.

AdWords managmement using AdWords alone—which doesn’t provide any assistance with proper campaign structure, bidding strategy, or ad copy optimization—can quickly become overwhelming without the right guidance.

In some cases, that guidance might come from software that makes keyword research, determining the right campaign structure, and strategic bidding more manageable; in others, it can mean outsourcing the work to more experienced digital marketers.

Regardless of which option you’re interested in pursuing, WordStream offers a solution. Our software makes AdWords management simple and efficient; it streamlines tedious, time-consuming work, allowing you to focus on your business. Looking for a hands-off approach? Our in-house managed services team is chock full of veteran digital marketers who can unsink ships and build profitable accounts from scratch.

To give you a better idea of exactly how much work is required to maximize ROI for your pay-per-click campaigns, let’s take a look at the fundamentals of AdWords account management. They can be organized into three high-level categories: experimentation, optimization, and growth.

AdWords Management: Experimentation

Adapt to Your Audience

It’s unlikely that you should be paying for clicks from every person on the planet. Demographics, physical location, and timing all play a role in determining exactly who you should be marketing to. Constantly test new targeting methods (and pairing them with appropriate messaging).

Align Your Value Proposition Sales Funnel

AdWords allows you to target prospects at any point in the sales funnel. Someone searching for “running shoes” conveys less intent to buy than someone searching for “Men’s Asics Ghost size 12.” Aligning your value proposition (the thing you’re offering in exchange for information or a sale) to the intent of the query is key.

Always Be Testing (Everything)

A/B testing (comparing two versions of an ad or landing page to determine which one performs better) is a never finished! If you don’t have two pieces of copy active in every ad group, if you aren’t trying new landing pages, your account performance will stagnate.

AdWords Management: Optimization

Structure Matters

Organization is the key to AdWords optimization: without well-laid plans and a coherent account structure. improvement is impossible. You wouldn’t build an addition onto a home with a crumbling foundation. Strategically crafting tightly-knit ad groups of semantically similar keywords ensures improved Quality Score and lowers costs.

Strategic Bid Management

In AdWords account management, setting initial bids is easy: managing them can be a pain. Knowing when to value position and how to maximize Quality Score and ROI is imperative. Know where your money is going and get the most out of your spend by making the right bids.

Know Your Competition

Through third-party tools, or simply Googling the keywords you’re bidding on, you can get an idea of your competition. Knowing what you’re up against is the best way to tailor your ad copy. Don’t blend in with the rest of the SERP: stand out!

AdWords Management: Growth

Leverage The Power of Remarketing

When you’re driving thousands of clicks to your website, not every single one will convert. Remarketing allows you to strategically alter your offering, tailoring it to audiences who have taken specific actions on your website. Marketing to new audiences is valuable: nurturing prospects familiar with your brand is even better.

Display: The Internet’s Cost-Effective Answer to Billboards

While the Search Network is great for granular targeting, Display is the perfect way to expose new prospects to your brand and, more importantly, introduce them to the top of your sales funnel. With options that allow you to serve ads across more than 2 million websites (and Gmail inboxes), Display is the next logical step after optimizing your AdWords campaign.

Expanding onto More Platforms

Once you’re happy with your AdWords account’s performance, it’s time to look for new platforms on which to advertise your products or services. Bing and Facebook are the logical next-steps, but both platforms are just as nuanced as AdWords. Knowing how to make the leap in a measured way is central to avoiding wasted spend and garnering more leads.

and that’s just what it takes to remain profitable.

Manage DNS suffix configuration through Group Policy #manage #dns

Manage DNS suffix configuration through Group Policy

The DNS suffix is one of the most important settings on a server’s network configuration, yet it is so easy to omit because the value is buried deep within the DNS tap of networking configuration. There are a number of ways to ensure consistent configuration of the DNS suffix, including using Group Policy.

For Windows 2000 and newer systems, Group Policy can assign the primary DNS suffix for each computer’s connection. The DNS suffix is important for various reasons; primarily, correctly configured DNS is the quickest way to ditch WINS for name resolution. The DNS suffix is also critical for Active Directory networks that have multiple network segments for name resolution that can’t use the peer-to-peer broadcast.

The DNS suffix is set in Group Policy in Computer Configuration | Policies | Administrative Templates | Network | DNS Client. From there, you can set the Primary DNS Suffix value for computer accounts. Figure A is an example of making this configuration. Figure A

Click the image to enlarge.

The next logical step is to configure the DNS suffix search order; this is critical for proper resolution across a forest, and it can also be used to resolve to DNS zones that are not Active Directory-Integrated. In the same Group Policy section, the DNS Suffix Search List value allows administrators to configure this aspect of a computer account (Figure B ). Figure B

Practically speaking, I recommend placing these configurations centrally in Group Policy instead of using security profiles or manual configuration. These two configurations can fill the gap that DHCP leaves in fully managing DNS for the client. DHCP can only assign the domain, not the suffix search order. In addition, I recommend using this for servers and clients if the DNS configuration is clean and well understood.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who is this FAQ for ?

This FAQ is for network administrators who looks for gateway software on Windows platform.

2. How this product can help to manage our network ?

Bandwidth Management and Firewall provides central management of network bandwidth and network security for corporate network.

3. What makes this product is superior to similar products ?

Operation speed and state firewall. BMF is able to operate on Gigabit data flow and manage thousands of users.

4. Which computer is suitable for installation and trying ?

BMF is corporate product. It is recommended to use dedicated machine with minimally two network cards. Supported operating systems are Windows 7/8/8.1/10 or server versions Windows Server 2008R2/2012/2012R2. Product is able to provide all features on non-server operating system so sufficient is to have license of client operating system. If you don’t want to change current IP topology use BMF on ethernet bridge placed between your current internet router and LAN switch.

5. It is said that Windows is not stable operating system for continuous running and it does not provide such availability like other systems. How this product can manage reliability ?

Operating system on PC can provide as good availability as it s administrator is able to setup. When Windows is carefully dedicated and prepared for BMF installation i.e. it has installed and activated minimum of services, it contains fresh service pack, Windows updates, quality network cards and hardware, updated drivers, it has not installed other software, it can provide high availability. We recommend to dedicate machine for BMF, mainly if network traffic and number of clients are high.

6. Where can I find more details about product ?

Download and read manual.

7. I d like to try BMF. Where can I found it ?

30-day trial is possible to download from section: Download

8. What does it mean 10Mbit license, 100Mbit license and 1000Mbit license ?

License name determines maximal possible speed of network interface which may be configured in BMF. Installed BMF automatically bounds to all network interfaces. Every network interface can to provide some maximal possible speed. Properties window of ethernet card often contains property called: Speed Duplex with possible values: 10Mbit Half/Full, 100Mbit Half/Full, 1000Mbit autonegotiated etc. For example if you have 100Mbit license and 1000Mbit network card then you must unbind BMF from this network interface or you must to lower maximal speed of such network interface to 100Mbit. Network interface which is unbound from BMF is functional and usable on network but it cannot be configured in BMF.

9. Can be Bandwidth Management and Firewall used with similar products from other firewall vendors on the same machine ?

This product has not restrictions for using with other firewalls on the same machine. It was only roughly tested with some of them and we did not meet problems with exception of maximal speed. Windows firewall products usually does not reach so high speed like this product, result is that fast ethernet speed can not be reached and mostly it s markedly lesser. Maybe you can meet some other problems, only way to know answer is to try it.

10. If I have some problem with Bandwidth Management and Firewall, where I can put question ?
