Mercy Hospital of Buffalo

One of the Largest Hospitals in Western New York

Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, part of Catholic Health, is one of the largest hospitals in Western New York with the region s busiest emergency room (ER); our new $32 million ER is triple the size of our previous facility.

We are accredited by the Joint Commission, illustrating that we meet the highest quality and safety standards in our field.

Smoke-Free Campus

Please note that smoking is not permitted anywhere on Mercy Hospital property or its off-site locations. This smoke-free policy includes all buildings, parking areas, cars parked on hospital property, grounds and adjacent sidewalks.

I came to the Emergency room with severe chest pains. It turns out that I was in the midst of a heart attack.

I was immediately taken in and given excellent care from the ER staff, and I was then put into a room. The cardiologist and staff did a superb job. I had an angioplasty and a stent put in before I knew what was happening. I can tell you that the instant it was done, I felt the difference physically.

Having a heart attack at age 47 is a scary thing, but I truly felt that I was given the best care in Western New York.

    Welcome to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Mercy Care, a nonprofit hospice serving South Carolina.

    What is Hospice?

    Hospice is a benefit that offers healthcare, assistance, and education to support patients and their families facing the challenges of an advanced illness. It is individualized care that offers compassion, dignity, comfort, respect, and someone to call for assistance, anytime day or night. Infants, children, and adults who face an advanced illness can qualify as hospice patients. Their disease diagnosis may include cancer, end-stage chronic illnesses such as lung, heart, and kidney disease, Alzheimer’s, dementia, strokes, ALS, and neurological diseases. Most hospice patients receive care and support in their own homes, in familiar surroundings with loved ones. Home is wherever a patient lives and can include assisted living facilities, rest homes, and nursing homes. Patients are also served in hospitals and our hospice care centers.

    About Lower Cape Fear Hospice Mercy Care

    Lower Cape Fear Hospice Mercy Care, a nonprofit hospice and palliative care agency, was created by community volunteers in 1980 to provide the highest level of care and comfort to everyone facing advanced illnesses, support and counseling to families, and education to our communities. That same volunteer spirit and community commitment still drives the compassionate care we offer today. Our dedicated team of caring professionals encourages everyone to live well because we believe every moment matters. You matter! Lower Cape Fear Hospice Mercy Care serves Horry, Georgetown and Marion counties in South Carolina and is a part of Lower Cape Fear Hospice, which serves six counties in southeastern North Carolina.

    Why We Exist

    We believe in compassionate care for those facing end of life illness while affirming the dignity and sanctity of human life.

    Divine Mercy was created to help assure that Catholics and their families receive sustenance in their faith at a time when the dying family member is as close to God as he or she will ever be while still here on earth. Our role in caring for terminally ill individuals is very specific and consistent with the laws of of the Catholic Church, but our services remain available for persons of any religious belief. To this end, we strictly adhere to the Catholic Standard of Care™.

    Our Services

    We deliver medical, spiritual, supportive and educational end of life services consistent with the Catholic Standard of Care™ to anyone who desires it.

    While the care of terminally ill patients is often complex and unique to individual circumstances, the Catholic Standard of Care™ was developed to:

    1. assist patients and families in making informed decisions about end of life choices and how they relate to Catholic teaching;
    2. assure patients and families that the services they receive never violate the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Code of Canon Law;
    3. provide patients and families with the comfort of knowing that the care they receive will never violate their religious or ethical beliefs.

    About Hospice

    Hospice operates on the belief that each of us has the right to die pain-free with dignity, and that our loved ones deserve the necessary support to allow us to do so.

    Hospice care provides comfort and support to patients with advanced illness and their families. The goal of hospice care is to improve the quality of life for patients by addressing each patient’s physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.
