Footbridge Beach Motel

Great little motel. We stayed here for one night. The rooms are small but clean and exactly what you would expect for a little beach motel. We paid 175 for the night which is pricey for a motel however it s just a short walk to the beach, a trolley stop, and multiple restaurants. We didn t have to drive at all for the two days we were there. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and polite. The outdoor pool was very clean. They even have a grill and patio section set up. We didn t get to use this but will when we go back to stay again.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Footbridge Motel for three nights, and we were thoroughly pleased with the room, amenities, and the friendly staff that the motel provided. Upon arrival the woman that checked us into our room offered to upgrade us to a larger room with a larger bed free of charge. The motel rooms are newly remodeled, clean, and comfortable. The heated pool, and barbecues are great amenities that add to the value of your stay. You really get more for your money when booking your stay at the Footbridge!

I was happy with our stay here. The lady at the desk was friendly and offered us brochures of places to eat and things to do, and told us if we needed anything she would be there for us!

The room was great for the price, and close to the Footbridge Beach which was beautiful and relaxing with its white sand beaches.

Pros: close to everything in town and a great beach, nice staff, big comfy bed, great water pressure on the shower head!

Cons: the shower water went from freezing cold to scalding hot throughout my showers. I had to do a shower dance! The biggest downer was that I pre-paid for my room on a website and when we arrived, they had their off-season rates (probably because it was raining). I could have saved about $100 if I hadn t bought them online!

Not sure why this is called a resort, but maybe there are more amenities during the summer season. Otherwise, it s a motel with a pool, hot tub, a fitness room with limited hours, and a front desk with limited hours. I opted for a deluxe king room, which had a large Jacuzzi tub and a fireplace. The motel was further from the beach than I would have liked, but in the summer there s a trolley stop right outside.

Couple of minor complaints: we had to leave unexpectedly early the following morning, and there wasn t an obvious way to return our room keys without going through the front desk (no options for self check-out in the room, or a key drop). I knocked on the front door at 7:45 and rang the doorbell. I could see someone preparing the breakfast room for the 8:00 opening, but maybe the bell didn t work, and I had to bang on the door a few times. How about having a key drop for guests who need to leave before 8:00 am? And I would have liked to work out before showering in the morning, but the gym didn t open until 9:00. Good for a basic place to hang your hat for the night, but keep your expectations moderate.

We ve just returned from a two night stay at the Ogunquit Resort Motel. Like others who have posted reviews, I am not sure why it s called a resort. What it is is a pleasant, clean hotel with some nice amenities. The pool is very large, but the picture on the website is misleading due to the angle taken. We reserved a room (upgrade) with a private balcony and were disappointed when we arrived to see that our balcony was directly facing Route 1, a stone s throw to the busy road. We were unable to use it at all the second night of our stay due to hornets swarming in the roof directly above it. I reported this to the office, not expecting they would be able to do anything about it that evening. No adjustment was made to our bill. The room was nice, very clean and the bed was comfortable. Nice sheets and bedding. The refrigerator was in the bathroom and there was no microwave. There was a hot tub and continental breakfast, but we didn t take advantage of either so can t rate.

Over all. nice hotel, very clean, reasonably priced, comfortable bed with nice linens, very nice pool, pleasant staff, good location close to downtown, attractions and restaurants. I think next time we will reserve a room closer to the water.

Ok – I have not been to Ogunquit in years and was looking forward to coming back. This hotel is in Ogunquit but not on beach and it s too far to walk to beach or town. Pool is nice and big and clean with lots of kids – so good for families I guess. The room smells very musty, like there must have been a flood or something. Also they don t have any restaurants at the hotel so you need to leave the property to for dinner, etc. This would not be my first choice when visiting Ogunquit.

The rooms are very affordable for the amazing location of the motel. It is a mile walk to the beach and five minute drive into the town. There is also a grocery store, CVS, and gas station near by.

Not sure why this is called a resort, it just seemed like a very nice motel. Our room was very clean and the staff was friendly, but the walls were pretty thin. The fridge is in the bathroom and you don t get a microwave in your room.

The continental breakfast wasn t great and we did not get wifi in our room. Every room does have a book with a list of recommended things to do and places to eat which was helpful.

Example: There are a few times in life when a meal is so expertly crafted and planned that it is nothing short of genius. Last night, I had one of those meals – the Mahi Mahi.

The dish was excellently prepared. Grilled, juicy, and fresh without a hint of fishiness. A glaze of tangerine sauce brought a hint of tart sweetness. The fish was placed on a mound of sweet plantain rice. The combination of the fish and rice alone was to die for!

However, as only expert chefs can achieve, additional garnishes provided even bolder, beautiful tastes. Pickled onions topping the fish made for an even finer taste experience, while green beans hidden under the fish added freshness and completed each bite

FOOTBRIDGE BEACH

In 2007, Boston Magazine ranked Footbridge Beach the #1 beach in New England. This beautiful beach is only a short walk from your room at the Gazebo Inn Ogunquit. You access the Footbridge Beach by crossing the aptly named pedestrian bridge that spans the Ogunquit River. This tidal river is a favorite kayaking, fishing, and swimming in warmer waters. The sand dunes provide an excellent wind break for the occasionally windy day, enabling you to enjoy fun in the sun or to catch a beautiful sunset. The beach itself provides you with an opportunity to mingle with other visitors or to find your own private section of the beach for a quiet respite enjoying the warm sand and the sound of the waves. Also voted Best Southern Maine Beach for Avoiding Crowds Yankee Magazine.

Gazebo Inn Ogunquit also provides a limited number of back pack chairs for guest use beach and pool towels are always provided in your rooms.

Beautiful beach – Footbridge Beach

Nice and Clean

Reviewed 3 days ago NEW via mobile

It was our first visit to this beach. We drove there on our first attempt but it cost $25.00 to park there. and there is no parking anywhere nearby. We drove back to our hotel and took the trolley for 2 bucks. The beach is large, quiet, and clean. Water was cold though. Had a long wait for the trolley to pick us up for return ride. Would go again. very enjoyable.

One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve experienced in Maine, or the Northeast in general. Absolutely loved it!

A few tips:
– Dogs are NOT allowed on the beach
– Parking is $25 a day; we happened to be staying at a motel within walking distance so this didn’t affect us
– The snack bar seemed a little unreliable; granted, we were there toward the end of the season (Wednesday – Friday before Labor Day), but it was closing around 4 when we arrived one day, wasn’t open by 9:30 or so another day, and was closed up at 1:30 pm another day (which seemed especially odd).
– The difference between low and high tide is striking — if you’re going to set up for the day, stay closer to the dunes
– There’s a bathroom on the parking lot side of the footbridge to the beach

Vast expanses of clean sand leading to shallow ocean water

Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

This is a great beach for families. The beach is deep and wide, and very clean. The ocean water itself is shallow – you can walk for some time and not get over your head. Contrary to our preconceptions about Maine beaches, this one isn’t rocky at all. There’s minimal seaweed. Beachgoers are fairly reserved but friendly – this isn’t a drunken, rowdy, noisy environment in the least. You can certainly walk into town, but it’s a bit of a hike. Water in July was 62 degrees, which is manageable, especially for kids.

Beaches in Ogunquit, Maine

Ogunquit, Maine, is close to a half-dozen beaches. (Photo: Jupiterimages/Brand X Pictures/Getty Images )

Related Articles

If you’re planning a visit to the southern Maine coastline town of Ogunquit, the beaches there will beckon you with their white sand, places to explore and easy access. Ogunquit is home to Ogunquit Beach and the tiny Footbridge Beach. Just north of Ogunquit is the town of Wells and its three beaches: Crescent Beach, Wells Beach and Drakes Island Beach.

Ogunquit Beach

Ogunquit Beach stretches for three and a half miles and is popular among tourists during the busy summer. You can access the main beach from Beach Street in the center of town. The beach has public restrooms, rentals of beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards and surboards, and you can get food from the Ogunquit Beach takeout stand or one of the many indoor restaurants around the beach. Lifeguards are on duty from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. every day during summer, as of 2011.

Footbridge Beach

Footbridge Beach, at the north end of Ogunquit Beach, offers a quieter alternative with access on Ocean Street, about a mile north of the Ogunquit town center. You always can walk from Footbridge Beach to Ogunquit Beach next door for more action. Locals avoid the crowds and the small parking fees by entering Footbridge Beach from a plank footbridge that spans the Ogunquit River. Public restrooms are available at Footbridge Beach, and lifeguards are on duty all summer. In 2007, “Boston” magazine listed Footbridge Beach the No. 1 beach in New England, and “Yankee” magazine called it the best southern Maine beach for avoiding crowds.

Crescent Beach

Crescent Beach is a small beach in the nearby town of Wells, where you can get away from it all. It’s important to note that while you won’t have to pay for parking at Crescent, there also are no lifeguards or food at this beach. Portable bathrooms are available. Parking is limited at Crescent Beach, so try to get there early during the busy months.

Wells Beach

Also in Wells, the 4,000-yard Wells Beach is popular with locals and tourists, and is bordered by sand dunes and beach grass. Wells Beach facilities include public restrooms, a food concession, a playground, an arcade, a picnic area, and nearby shops. You also can watch the beach scene from benches on a scenic overlook. Lifeguards are on duty all summer and there is limited free parking, along with a number of parking lots that charge by the day. The free parking fills up early.

Drakes Island Beach

Drakes Island Beach can be found just north of Wells Beach, off Route 1. You’ll have to pay for parking, but this beach is usually less crowded than others in the area. Drakes Island Beach has lifeguards in summer and public restrooms, but bring a cooler because there is no restaurant or snack bar.

Friendly staff, and the rooms were clean enough. But in the room I was staying at, I didn t get any cellphone signal, and the wifi also did not work. That was very inconvenient.
