Circuit Breaker Won t Reset

My circuit breaker won’t reset. What is the problem? What can I check for? This is one of the most common issues that can happen within the home’s electrical system.

There can be several reasons that a circuit breaker won’t reset. First we must look at the function of the circuit breaker. A circuit breaker is designed to limit the current on a circuit to the rated level (measured in amperage) for which it, and the circuit is designed to operate at. A breaker is also designed to trip on a sudden and extremely high flow of current (short circuit) condition.

Here are the most common reasons why a circuit breaker won’t reset:

1. Are you taking the proper steps to attempt to reset the breaker? You must push the breaker handle firmly and fully to the off position, and then back to on.
2. An overloaded circuit. If the circuit breaker trips, and won’t reset immediately, but after a cool down period it can be reset, then trips again after a few minutes, then the problem is likely an overloaded circuit. Your circuit breaker won’t reset because you may have too many heavy loads plugged into receptacles or electrical outlets on that particular circuit. You may have too many lights on that circuit, or bulbs installed in fixtures that the wattage rating is too high. You may have a faulty appliance plugged into the circuit that is causing the problem. To troubleshoot the cause, start by unplugging everything, and shut off light fixtures, etc. Then if the breaker stays reset, start plugging in and turning lights back on until a problem becomes evident.
3. A short circuit. If the circuit breaker won’t reset, and trips immediately, then you probably have a short circuit condition. Take the same steps as above to attempt to isolate the cause.
4. It is possible, but much less likely that the breaker itself is faulty.

It is important to remember that if the circuit breaker won’t reset, then it is likely a sure sign that you have a problem that needs attention. If your circuit breaker won’t reset, find out what is causing the problem. Never replace the breaker with one of a higher rating as a permanent or even a temporary fix. This can cause a dangerous condition of over-heating the wires, and possibly a fire.

Once you ve rectified the situation, you can try resetting the breaker. Here s a link to my article that talks more about how to reset a tripped breaker and how to reset it, and includes a video demonstrating the process.

I hope this information helps! Thanks for taking the time to read this article. If you have any questions or comments, please feel to share them below.

Not Sure About Doing These Types of Projects or Troubleshooting? Not Anymore!

Have you been stumped by a three-way switch, struggled installing a new receptacle, or basically put off doing any wiring project yourself because you didn’t feel confident working around electricity? I completely understand. Electricity can be downright scary. However, armed with the properinformation you must have to work safely and completely, home owners like yourself CAN complete most simple home wiring projects.

Rather than scour the internet looking for the information you need to work on a wiring project or problem, I can recommend a tremendous resource that pulls together virtually everything you will need to know. I don’t endorse many projects, but this is one that I fully endorse “The Basics of Household Wiring” DVD or e-book.

As I licensed, journeyman electrician, I have pretty high expectations for a DIY resource. It must be professional, it must be technically correct, and above all, it must focus on safety. I found all of that in this DVD, and I am confident that you will be impressed with the quality of the information contained in this excellent resource.

This easy to understand (and no – you won’t need to understand technical “jargon”) tutorial breaks down the majority of home wiring projects you’ll encounter around the house and provides detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to complete them – safely and competently. This comprehensive, professionally produced DVD will give you the confidence you need to work on any of those home wiring projects! It’s a tool that I recommend every DIYer consider adding to their tool box! Click here for more information .

How will I save with solar panels?

The amount you will save by installing solar panels is largely driven by the size of your system, but also depends on the unique characteristics of your home. A typical 6 kW panel system will save San Diego homeowners $33,030 over 20 years. The average initial cost of the system is $19,619. During its 20 year lifespan, the system will eliminate on average $52,650 worth of electric bills and only carry an upfront cost of $19,619.

Are solar panels a good investment?

You can calculate how much you will earn by purchasing solar panels much like you would an investment in stocks, bonds, or your savings account.

When making this comparison, it is important that you compare solar to investments that have a similar risk profile. Unlike stocks or bonds which can go up or down in value the annual energy output of your solar panels is very reliable. Because there is very little risk when investing in solar, it s best to compare your return on investment to very safe financial investments, such as short term maturity government bonds.

Year-to-date, short term government bonds have been providing a return of under 1%. Based San Diego s average electricity and solar panel cost data for a 6 kW system, homeowners can expect a return of 5.06%.

How many solar panels do I need?

The size of your solar system will largely be driven by your electricity usage. Based on typical electric rates in San Diego, someone with an average utility bill of $153 per month will require a 6kW system to offset the vast majority of their electricity usage. A smaller utility bill of $76 per month will only require a 3 kW system, while people with an electricity bill of $228 will require a larger 9kW system.

My wife and I chose Select Solar, to install a photovoltaic (PV) system after lengthy research and talking to other solar installers. What impressed us first was how easy it was to talk with Colin Howe and how knowledgeable he was with the current state of the solar industry. We had two requirements in reducing our electrical cost; find a way to reduce our daily demand and then create supplemental power that we would use in our house and feed back to the local electric grid.

the order arrived the next day.

Easy to order and no problems whatsoever.100% happy.

Types of Service – Honeywell Intrusion and Communications #burglar #alarm, #burglary, #home

#

Types of Service

The AlarmNet network’s reliability is assured with a state of the art network control center that houses dedicated communication services and hardware platforms. Hardware servers and communication paths are completely redundant, with hot back-up databases housed in two separate locations. If one system were to have a catastrophic event, the other system can take over without any service interruption. Both locations are equipped with battery and generator backup along with technical support 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week for uninterrupted service. This level of sophistication allows us to handle alarm communication for UL listed and critical high-line security installations.

Network Architecture

In the AlarmNet architecture, although each of the networks are independent of one another, subscriber radios and Internet transmitters may send messages from one network and be received at nearly any central station location in North America over another technology. The AlarmNet Network Control Center (NCC) accomplishes this integration. This design offers the following important benefits:

1. Integration of Multiple Networks

One of the fundamental principles behind AlarmNet is the integration of different network types. In the AlarmNet architecture, member central stations are equipped with AlarmNet wireless or Internet receiving equipment or both. This equipment communicates directly with the AlarmNet network. Depending on its needs at installation at the protected premise, an installer may choose to use any of the available types of subscriber radios or Internet transmitters, whichever works best for that installation. Although each of the different products may report through a different network, the central station does not need to incur the costs of time, money, or labor to operate, maintain, and integrate all of these networks.

When a central station signs up with AlarmNet, it establishes a network connection scheme between the central station and AlarmNet and as a result gains access to any of its customers at the protected premise through that scheme and the interaction of AlarmNet.

2. Learn One, Know Them All

All of the different subscriber devices used for the different network services have a similar look and feel. The same programming tool is used for most of the devices. All signals are delivered to the central station in a uniform, familiar reporting format. This assures that the central station can receive signals from any type of AlarmNet subscriber; past, present, or future. Once equipped to receive alarm messages from the AlarmNet network, the central station can provide network services to any subscriber without additional expense.

3. Supervision and Speed of Delivery

AlarmNet radios and transmitters are supervised on a regular basis. The supervision is performed automatically, and is transparent to the central station. The AlarmNet network communicates with all AlarmNet devices on a regular basis, assuring that they are operational. The AlarmNet network reports to the central station only when there is a problem. The central station does not need to worry about supervision or maintenance of the network, since the network performs these functions automatically. The central station only receives the signals it needs: actual alarm or trouble messages. When the network receives an alarm, it automatically and immediately forwards the signal to the appropriate central station. The AlarmNet transmission generally will reach the central station before the traditional dialer-based signal, in cases where an AlarmNet device and the digital dialer both send signals.

4. Secure, Redundant, Wireless Protection

Not all competitive wireless subscriber services offered in the market are wireless at both ends. For example, due to the design of the cellular network, competing cellular services deliver signals to the central station over the regular switched telephone network. In these cases, the communications integrity of the central station (and all premises protected by that central station) is vulnerable to the same weaknesses as any landline-dependent customer (line cut, service outages, and natural disasters). Limited services such as these protect only a portion of the communications chain. Standard AlarmNet wireless delivery, however, assures an end-to-end wireless system that provides redundancy, supervision, and verification of message delivery. It only makes sense that the central station should use wireless communications to maintain the same level of security and performance in its communications infrastructure as it does at the protected premises.

In order to maintain a redundant, invulnerable link to subscribers using wireline-terminated networks, a service provider must maintain at least two physically distinct and independent connections to every network type. AlarmNet maintains such connections at every level, saving the central station the expense and complexity of maintaining such an elaborate communications infrastructure. AlarmNet’s connection to the central station also has two layers of redundancy: every central station is equipped with a primary and backup transceiver.

Planning underway for Mendenhall Glacier visitor improvements

Managers of Juneau s most popular tourist attraction say they’re planning for a more sustainable facility, even as the very object of many a visitors fascination continues retreating at a faster rate because of climate change.

Most of the $415,000 dollars for drafting a master plan for the U.S. Forest Service s Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center comes from the Federal Highway Administration. The plan may address everything from Glacier Spur Road access to improving parking, culverts, trails and other outdoor areas, and even heat loss from the large, inefficient windows at the Visitor Center.

Visitor Center Director John Neary briefly explained the plan during a press conference Tuesday about potential impacts to the Alaska tourism industry from climate change.

It seems like a no-brainer to me, Neary said.

We have people coming on cruise ships that are belching emissions that are contributing (to climate change), and they get on diesel buses that are belching emissions, and they land at the glacier, and get off, and they see this glacier, and they’re not making the connection between everything they’ve just done and what they’re seeing before them.

Neary went into more detail during an interview with KTOO immediately after the teleconferenced presentation. He’s open to ideas such as reconstruction of a Nugget Creek hydroelectric project that served miners a century ago, closing off the end of Glacier Spur Road and using an electric circulator or tram to transport visitors from a parking lot to the Center, and offering incentives for tour companies to electrify their bus fleet.

Passengers board a bus at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center on Tuesday. (Photo by Matt Miller/KTOO)

Such as, if we were to provide plug in stations for those buses with electricity at competitive rates, and with those stations offering the best parking spot that is available.

Neary points out that the Mendenhall Glacier is the most popular tourism destination with 450,000 visitors, or almost half of the total number of cruise ship passengers that visit Juneau each year. Of that number, about 10,000 visitors to the glacier are locals. He also said companies can’t sell trips to other destinations in Juneau (like the DIPAC hatchery, for example) unless the Mendenhall Glacier is included in the package.

Neary admits that achieving zero-net energy and zero-net waste at the Visitor Center, or entirely eliminating carbon emissions would be extremely difficult, if not impossible. But that’s not the ultimate goal anyway. He said their job as interpreters is about making that link, or connecting people to the landscape in a way that they never had thought about before.

We’re not making the fact that ‘You are the cause of the retreating glacier. You and everyone else.’ We all collectively need to address this. And a starting point would be right here at this Visitor Center.

He hopes that visitors will then go home, start a discussion, and take action in their own community.

Neary said they’ll finish the plan and have priorities identified by next spring. Implementation of the plan, however, may take years and a lot more funding.

Tesla unveils discreet new rooftop solar panels

Elon Musk s solar roof tiles won t fit the bill for every home. Some homeowners won t want to replace their entire roofs. but Tesla. of course, already has a solution. They re now marketing sleek, low-profile solar panels that are easy to install and better blend in with roofs than traditional panels.

Leave it to Tesla to offer an elegant alternative to traditional solar panels. They updated the Energy section of their website over the weekend to include new images of their solar panels. The seamless look of the new technology is thanks to integrated front skirts and no visible mounting hardware according to Tesla s website. Electrek said these features come from Zep Solar. a mounting equipment company SolarCity acquired before Tesla s acquisition. Zep Solar engineers designed the rail-less system Solar City employed to slash solar installation times in half.

Tesla says their panels exceed industry standards for durability and lifespan on their website. Panasonic will be manufacturing the exclusive panels at the Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, New York. There aren t many specifics available for the new solar panels yet, but Electrek said they will be 325-watt panels. They noted Panasonic sells other 325 watt panels, and those have a 25-year power output warranty and a 21.76 percent module efficiency.

Tesla and before that SolarCity used to install solar panels from multiple suppliers as many solar companies do, but told Electrek once these new panels go into production, Tesla will use them for all residential projects in the future. It seems Elon Musk aims at offering solar solutions with better aesthetics for those who have been hesitant to go solar in the past with the bulky rooftop options.

Anyone interested right now can request a custom quote on Tesla s website. The company told Electrek production should begin this summer.
