By age 45, 1 out of every 2.5 women in the United States has had at least one abortion!*

Who are these women? They are single women, married women and divorced women. They are teens, young adults, and older women too. They are your friends, your sisters, your cousins, your aunts, your mothers, your neighbors, your co-workers, your schoolmates, they are the women you see every day when you go out into the world. These women come from all different ages, ethnicities, socio-economic levels, countries and religions. There are so many different circumstances that can bring a woman to this site. Chances are there are many women here that understand what got you here. So with all these women undergoing this common medical procedure, why isn’t there more support for women after an abortion, to discuss their experience? Why so few support groups to talk about your physical and emotional issues afterwards? The fear of political or religious backlash, and the fear of negative reactions from friends or family keeps most women from discussing anything they feel after their abortion. This makes an incredibly hard physical and emotional experience even worse, because the woman has no outlet for support. This website tries to fill that need, and provides a neutral, non-political, non-religion based, non-judgmental place for women to communicate with each other after an abortion.

How you feel after an abortion should not be a ‘political’ or ‘religious’ issue – if you have a need for support, want to talk, or have emotional or physical problems, they should be treated just like the issues with any other medical procedure.

What is this website about? This site is for women who have had an abortion, and want a place to talk about their abortion, and find peer support in a neutral, non-judgemental place. The site was created in June 1998, and now has thousands of women who post on our after abortion support message boards. sharing support, knowledge, experiences and help for each other. Our message boards have hundreds of thousands of posts, thousands of members, and discuss every aspect of post abortion support, recovery, and life after an abortion. You cango sign up for an account and get immediate support and conversation with other women who have experienced the same thing you have. Go to the message boards

How many women are talking right now on the message boards? Hundreds! How many stories can you go read right now, that have information and answers to questions you might have about post-abortion recovery? Literally, millions! As of 2/23/2015, the message boards have over 2,779,557 posts and 38,687 members! Because we have members from around the world in many different time zones, there is always someone on-line either posting or chatting, and they’d be happy to talk with you! Even if you don’t want to talk, there are almost 2.5 million posts you can read through, to find comfort and support. You are not alone and your feelings are shared by thousands of women around the globe. Our boards cover every aspect of life after an abortion, and we have a lot of different topics to explore. Click Here to go join the message boards and find information and instant friends who truly understand!

More about this site: This website contains information, help and resources for women dealing with Post Abortion Stress Syndrome, also referred to as “PASS”. We provide neutral, non-judgmental, non-religion based, non-politically affiliated online support, information, help and healing. This site was created by “jilly”, a woman who has recovered from her own struggles with PASS after 5 abortions. We provide help through “peer support” discussion, volunteer helpers, message board communication and online information. “Peer Support” means that there are no professional counselors or doctors here, just other women who have been through these experiences and understand them. Regardless of whether your abortion was 3 weeks ago, 3 years ago, or 30 years ago, you can find other women who understand, and lots of support.

  • How to feel better after an abortion – PASS Recovery Steps – This book is for women who had an abortion 3 months or more ago, and are not feeling better, and are having persistent problems with getting back to normal.
  • You can also buy a print version of the PASS Recovery Steps below, from Cafe’ Press. Individual Recovery Steps Workbook

We have a special section on our message board system for women working on the Individual Recovery Steps. If you want help, have questions or need input or support on a particular step, please post at the Individual Recovery Steps Message Board.

    Is This A Pro-Choice Or Pro-Life Site?

This site is neither, it is “Politically Neutral”, and is devoted to healing and recovery for women who’ve had abortions. This site does not endorse any political view about abortion, or endorse any specific religious view about abortion. It is strictly a neutral place of healing, information and support for women, their families and friends after an abortion. We treat this as a medical issue for women, not a political or religious one. Therefore at our message boards and chats there is no discussion allowed on prolife vs prochoice issues, judgement or questioning of women’s reasons, or discussions about the “morality” of abortion. If you choose to participate in our interactive groups, please respect our site policy on these issues. Our site is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and is not financed or supported by any political or religious groups. It is supported solely by the members at the message boards, and profits from the sale of products.

What Is “Post Abortion Stress Syndrome?”

Post Abortion Stress Syndrome (PASS) is the name for a condition that can affect women after an abortion. Just like any other condition, PASS does not affect every woman who has an abortion. Some women who have abortions feel peaceful about their decision beforehand, have a pain-free and physically easy experience, feel relieved afterwards, and then live the rest of their lives with no problems or regrets. Other women may have a different experience, and may have a more difficult time with the physical procedure itself, and the emotional and physical recovery process. Those who are affected can find themselves having problems with a common set of physical or emotional issues. After an abortion it’s possible that a woman will have some normal feelings of grief, guilt, sadness, crying and loss. If the feelings become severe, interfere with her daily activities, persist for a long period of time, or lead to other more serious problems, she may be suffering from PASS. Click Here for a list of detailed symptoms of PASS, lists of common problems, and more specific information.

Doesn’t having PASS problems mean I am “prolife”, or “regret my decision”?”

NO! PASS is a collection of physical and/or emotional issues that are common to women after an abortion. It is not expereinced only by women who are prolife, or who regret their abortion. There are plenty of prochoice women who have experienced PASS. There are also plenty of women who feel their abortion was the right choice, and don’t regret it, yet still have problems with PASS. PASS is a medical condition, and has nothing to do with politics or religion.

What about you and the people who run this site?

My view on abortion is neutral. The volunteers who help run this site and the message boards and chats have many different views – but the important thing is that everyone who helps out here has a strict devotion to neutrality, and our support and help is totally neutral. Insuring Your Porsche Cayenne #2010, #auto, #blog #post, #car #safety, #driving, #porsche

    Insuring Your Porsche Cayenne

Its no secret that the Porsche Cayenne is like no other vehicle in the world. It is a Porsche after all. So it should come as no surprise that this top of the line vehicle requires top of the line (specialty) auto insurance. There are a number of auto insurance providers that only write policies for classic and new Porsche vehicles, while others specialize in luxury vehicles, high-performance (sports car) vehicles, exotic cars, antiques, and other similar vehicles. While we cant name names, we can tell you what these specialty auto insurance providers offer and how to find them.

For starters, the great thing about opting for a specialty auto insurance provider over a traditional auto insurance provider is most specialty insurance providers offer the highest standard of protection Agreed Value. Both you and the insurance company agree on the actual vash calue of your Porsche, i.e. what your settlement amount will be in case of the loss of your car. If you both agree that your Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia is worth $70,800 and your vehicle is stolen or totaled, you will receive $70,800, less your deductible. Traditional auto insurance providers rarely offer this level of protection.

    Enlarge Photo

Next, specialty auto insurance providers typically offer the following:

    – Genuine Porsche replacement parts
    – Convenient 24/7 claims service
    – Guaranteed lifetime workmanship on covered repairs through a Porsche repair facility or other authorized repair facility
    – Exclusive relationships with high-end providers

In addition to Agreed Value, specialty auto insurance providers will also protect your Porsche Cayenne by providing:

    – Physical damage coverage for theft, fire, car accidents, vandalism, weather related damages, etc.
    – Bodily injury and property damage liability in case of an accident
    – Uninsured motorist high performance car insurance
    – Medical payments and personal injury protection (PIP insurance), which cover medical expenses, and in some cases lost wages and other damages

At $1,482 per year, the average auto insurance premium for the Porsche Cayenne is fairly low considering the value of this luxury vehicle. What you must keep in mind is: average rates are just that average. You might drive more miles than the average Porsche owner, you might live in a higher traffic area than the average owner, or you might be younger than the average Porsche owner. Many specialty auto insurance providers prefer to work with individuals age 25 or over. All of these factors (age, geographic location, gender, and mileage) will affect your rates as well as driving record, credit history, employment, number of drivers, and if you plan to insure multiple vehicles on the same policy. Luckily, all Porsche vehicles come loaded with superior safety features. This will help determine rates as well in your favor.

So, where should you look for specialty auto insurance providers? You can start by asking your dealership for a list of providers at the time of purchase. Your dealership will be more than happy to recommend some of the top specialty auto insurance providers in the country. You can also check with your state department of insurance. To locate your state department of insurance website for official figures. Simply search (your state) + insurance department to locate the official website address.

Alaska s permafrost is filling the air with carbon dioxide, worsening climate

    #

We all knew this was coming : Alaska s thawing soils are now pouring carbon dioxide into the air

Even as the Trump administration weighs withdrawing the United States from the Paris climate agreement, a new scientific paper has documented growing fluxes of greenhouse gases streaming into the air from the Alaskan tundra, a long-feared occurrence that could worsen climate change.

The new study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, suggests that frozen northern soils — often called permafrost — are unleashing an increasing amount of carbon dioxide into the air as they thaw in summer or subsequently fail to refreeze as they once did, particularly in late fall and early winter.

“Over a large area, we’re seeing a substantial increase in the amount of CO2 that’s coming out in the fall,” said Roisin Commane, a Harvard atmospheric scientist who is the lead author of the study. The research was published by 19 authors from a variety of institutions, including NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The study, based on aircraft measurements of carbon dioxide and methane and tower measurements from Barrow, Alaska, found that from 2012 through 2014, the state emitted the equivalent of 220 million tons of carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere from biological sources (the figure excludes fossil fuel burning and wildfires). That’s an amount comparable to all the emissions from the U.S. commercial sector in a single year.

The chief reason for the greater CO2 release was that as Alaska has warmed up, emissions from once frozen tundra in winter are increasing — presumably because the ground is not refreezing as quickly.

“The soils are warmer deeper, and as they freeze in the fall, the temperature of every soil depth has to come to zero before they hard freeze,” Commane said. “The temperature has to come to zero and equilibrate, for the soils to freeze hard through. And through that whole period you have emissions because the microbe are active.”

In particular, the research found that since 1975, there has been a 73.4 percent increase in the amount of carbon lost from the Alaskan tundra in the months of October through December as the climate warmed steadily.

The new study is “the first to show that a large region of the Arctic is a carbon source and that this change is driven by increased carbon emissions during the winter,” said Sue Natali, a permafrost researcher with the Woods Hole Research Center, who was not involved in the study. “Because the models aren’t capturing these cold-season processes, we’re very likely underestimating carbon losses from the Arctic under current and future climate scenarios.”

The fears about permafrost carbon losses are based on some simple chemistry. Unlike at warmer latitudes, where microorganisms in the soil constantly break down plant matter and return the carbon it contains to the atmosphere, Arctic soils have been cold enough to preserve the frozen remains of ancient plant life. But as the planet warms, soil microbes become able to break down more and more of this carbon, sending it back into the atmosphere and worsening global warming in a troubling feedback loop.

Some scientists, however, held out hope that there would be a key offsetting process: As the Arctic warms, it might also stow away more carbon as it becomes greener and supports the additional plant life, particularly in tundra regions. This “Arctic greening ” is indeed occurring, but the new research suggests that the permafrost losses in early winter are more than enough to offset that.

“There is greening going on, but it seems like you run out of the sunlight so far north, so it doesn’t matter how much greening there is, eventually, the plants just run out of light,” Commane said. “It appears now that the microbes are winning.”

The new study contrasts with a 2016 study by the U.S. Geological Survey, which had found that Alaska was acting as a net carbon “sink” at the moment — removing more carbon from the air than it is emitting — and that this should continue and expand over the course of the century as plant growth increases.

One of the lead authors of that research, Dave McGuire of the University of Alaska at Fairbanks and USGS, said the new study is “not the final word, but it is a significant step forward.” McGuire pointed out that the new study looks at the years 2012 to 2014, whereas the 2016 USGS study looked at earlier years and ended in 2009, making an “apples to apples” comparison difficult.

Alaska is only one area of the Arctic where permafrost soils could be emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Permafrost regions in Canada and Siberia are even vaster. But the new study’s lessons could also apply to those areas, researchers say.

The study “shows that the Alaska region, which may be representative of large swaths of boreal forest and Arctic tundra biomes elsewhere, appear to be releasing net carbon to the atmosphere, in particular with stimulated emissions in the fall/early winter period,” said Ted Schuur, an ecologist at Northern Arizona University, who was not involved in the research.

“We all knew this was coming, but I’m surprised that we can even see it now,” Commane said.

    • The Ratnakar Bank IDBI Bank do offer fixed deposits up to 20 years too .
    • For very short Term Deposits the interest rate is similar to that of Savings Account and so you should not worry about FD. Also Interest up to Rs 10,000 in Saving Account is Tax free .
    • Most banks compound interest quarterly
    • Banks offer Loan/Overdraft against the amount available in Fixed Deposit. The interest is generally 0.5% to 1% more than that offered to FD.

    • FD for 1 to 2 years
    • FD for 2 to 5 Years
    • FD for 5 to 10 years

Interest Rate (Senior Citizens) for FD Less than 1 Year:

The highest interest rate is offered by The Ratnakar Bank (241 days to 364 days) at 7.60% .

    Shankar Iyer says:

I suppose there has to be an extensive study before stats are pur out esp. with reference to Ratnakar Bank. If you could check Varacha Bank, Surat Peoples Bank, Sutex Bank, Sarvoday Coop Bank ( all coop banks in Surrat) whose financials are available and NPAs are available for view. These give better returns than Ratnakar. Also, see Gujarat Rajya Karmachari Coop Bank. Investments upto Rs. 1 lac is insured. Also, the investor needs to be educated on the maneouveing of applicant names while opening accounts with coop banks, so that only the benefit of sr citizen is obtained, but the deposits are also insured.

I agree with your views and you can use various combinations of names of account holders to get benefit of deposit insurance. Historically co-operative banks have been riskier and so they offer higher interest rate. Also claiming insurance in case of default is not easy and it may take time. So it s individuals call weather to take risk for slightly higher interest rates.

Baseball legend Cal Ripken Jr. and Kelly Ripken are divorced after nearly three decades

After almost 30 years of marriage, Hall of Famer and former Baltimore Oriole Cal Ripken Jr. and Kelly Ripken have divorced.

Her attorney says the split was finalized Thursday morning in the Baltimore County circuit court. Details about the settlement — Cal Ripken, 55, owns a minor-league team and a chain of sports complexes bearing his name and is reportedly worth $75 million — will not be made public since records were sealed and the division of property was outlined in a private contract.

The pair wed in 1987 and have two children, Rachel, 26, and Ryan, 22. Ripken was a homegrown baseball star known for a low-key public persona, and his wife was a presence at Orioles games and a fixture at his side through decades of charity events and appearances. Together, they projected an image of a wholesome, low-drama couple — a rarity in the volatile world of pro sports.

“Kelly has been a great mother to two fabulous children and a wonderful, faithful wife for the duration of the parties’ relationship, which lasted more than 30 years,” her attorney, Sanford Ain, said in a statement. “This is a difficult time for her and she asks that her privacy and the privacy of her children be respected.”

A spokesman for Cal Ripken said his client would have no comment on the matter. Cal Ripken, whose stamina earned him the moniker the “Iron Man,” broke Lou Gehrig’s consecutive-games record in 1995 when he played his 2,131st straight game. He’s been renting a home in Annapolis, his spokesman confirmed, a development that was first reported by the local Capital Gazette .

Ain says the pair have been separated for some time and that Kelly Ripken, 57, “looks forward to the next chapter ” in which she plans to focus on philanthropic efforts, particularly those related to women’s health. Kelly Ripken, who has publicly discussed being diagnosed 30 years ago with Graves’ disease, a thyroid condition, is the co-chair of Johns Hopkins annual women’s health conference and is the namesake of the Kelly G. Ripken program for thyroid patients at Johns Hopkins.

Kid genius brothers, 11 and 14, graduate high school and college this weekend

Carson Huey-You, 14, graduated from Texas Christian University on May 13, becoming the youngest graduate in history. He earned a degree in physics and minors in Chinese and math. (Amy Peterson, Texas Christian University)

Claretta Kimp wants you to understand this:

Yes, she gave birth to two child prodigies, and yes, they’re graduating from high school and college this weekend at ages 11 and 14, respectively. Carson, her oldest, is leaving Texas Christian University with a degree in physics and minors in Chinese and math. Cannan, the kid brother, will head to TCU next fall to study astrophysics and engineering. The first wants to get a PhD, the other wants to be an astronaut.

All that, Kimp concedes, is impressive.

But as a mom, her sons’ academic achievements rank low among her favorite facts.

“Yes, they’re smart,” Kimp told The Washington Post, “but that’s just a small part of who they are.”

The brothers, she said, are also best friends, study partners and big fans of their puppy, Klaus. They wrestle and laugh and hold the door open for women, just like their mother taught them. At home, Carson and Cannan do not fight, not even during their epic Star Wars lightsaber battles that make Kimp cringe. And don’t worry, Kimp tells the peanut gallery, their social lives are perfectly adequate. Their childhoods haven’t suffered.

“My boys have more social skills than most adults,” she said. “They are just normal little boys who do normal little boy things.”

It was their brilliance, though, that first landed them in the spotlight.

Four years ago, at age 10, Carson was admitted to TCU in Fort Worth and he began classes as an 11-year-old. On Saturday, he’ll become the youngest graduate in the university’s history.

Kimp, who studied early education and business at Southern Illinois University, said she converted the spare bedroom in their home into a classroom before Carson was even walking. At first, he played with blocks there. Then she started sitting him in a chair for class.

He was so excited to learn, Kimp said, that they created a set school day from 9 a.m. to noon. But Carson would blow through the curriculum she planned in an hour. By age 2, he was reading books with chapters, and at age 3 he told his mom he wanted to learn calculus.

Kimp home-schooled Carson until he was 5 years old and learning at an eighth grade level. She knew he needed to “get out a little bit,” she said, but she struggled to find a school that was willing or able to accommodate him. She finally found a small, private Christian school and cold-called the receptionist.

“I’m a normal functioning human being and I’m totally for real,” she recalls saying on the phone. “Here’s my situation.”

The principal eventually accepted Carson, and five years later he graduated as co-valedictorian.

Then the search for a school willing to accept a child started all over again.

Kimp said they visited numerous college campuses and listened to lectures about the Ivy League. But when it came time to decide, TCU bubbled to the top.

Ultimately, the decision was Carson’s. He told his mom that TCU “felt right.”

“TCU is our Ivy League,” Kimp said.

Physics professor Magnus Rittby, a senior associate dean, became Carson’s mentor and, eventually, his research adviser. Rittby knew how to ease Carson’s anxieties, push him academically and, most importantly to Kimp, treat her son like the kid he is.

“This experience at TCU would not have been possible without Dr. Rittby,” she said.

Carson faced challenges most college kids don’t. Federal financial aid forms, for example, didn’t include his age in the drop-down menu, and his mom had to drive him an hour and a half to school every day in rush hour traffic. Kimp walked him to and from class. And he had a 9 p.m. bedtime — 11 p.m. if he had to cram for a big exam.

Kimp eventually moved the family closer to campus, so their commute shortened to eight minutes. And the juggling act got even easier once Cannan started tagging along to TCU.

Because Kimp never wanted to make her sons feel in intellectual competition with each other, the divorced mom tried to avoid forcing Cannan down the same path as Carson. She wanted him to find his own way.

Cannan began on the traditional route, attending kindergarten with kids his own age. But my second grade, he was bored, and asked to be home-schooled like Carson, reported the Dallas Morning News. Kimp thinks her eldest son’s thirst for learning rubbed off on Cannan.

Even after she would complete lessons with Cannan, Carson would swoop in to help with homework, demonstrating on the whiteboard in their home how to breeze through complex math equations.

“They know that they are blessed to have a sibling and to have each other,” Kimp told The Post.

With both sons, she said she enjoyed “seeing the lightbulb moments.”

It’s not often that an 11-year old enrolls in a university. We have such a gifted student at TCU. This week, we have the…

Cannan later enrolled in the same private high school that Carson attended. He went to the school to take exams, but mostly worked remotely from the TCU campus alongside his brother. Cannan even got to begin work on a research project with a TCU astronomy professor.

On Friday, he’ll walk at his high school graduation, and on Saturday, Carson will receive his college diploma.

And although her children are geniuses, Kimp chooses to measure her parental success in other ways.

Recently, Cannan and Carson were playing upstairs with their Star Wars lightsabers, gifts they got this year at Christmas. Made from hard plastic, they made a loud “whack!” every time they clashed together. Kimp listened from downstairs, waiting, she said, for an inevitable scream.

When it came from Carson, who had been thumped in the arm, she sat there for a minute to see what would happen next.

“Oh, I’m so sorry,” she heard Cannan said. “Let me rub it for you.”

    She sat back feeling satisfied.

“Okay, yeah,” she said she thought to herself, “I’ve done a good job.”

    Consumer guide to hospice

By Dan Keating and Shelly Tan, Updated: Dec. 18, 2014

Hospices vary widely in ways that can affect patient care.

The Washington Post has gathered data largely from government sources on more than 3,000 hospices that participate in Medicare, which pays for the vast majority of hospice care in this country. No single factor can predict the quality of a hospice’s care, and these figures do not offer a complete picture of any single hospice. But consumers can benefit from knowing how a hospice compares to others on these important measures.

Select a state below to explore its hospices or read on to learn more about a hospice’s important traits.

    How to use this guide:

In compiling the statistics for the guide, The Post sought expert opinion on what information, among that which could be gleaned from Medicare reports, would be useful for consumers.

The guide provides information about agencies around the country, including, among other things:

    • The hospice’s age
    • Its size
    • Its accreditation
    • What it spends on nursing per patient
    • Whether the operation is for-profit
    • Whether it has provided at least some patients with “crisis care,” meaning either continuous nursing care or general inpatient services.
    • What percentage of patients are discharged from the hospice before dying.

Here is some advice from experts about how to weigh all of this information.

Age and size: The experts generally favored hospices that are older and that serve more than a small number patients at a time. A hospice over say, 10 years old, has a track record as well as experience. Medium-sized and larger hospices may be better able to provide backup and more intense services, experts said.

Accreditation: To varying degrees, experts consulted by The Post favored hospices that have been accredited by outside groups. Hospices that have been accredited have opened themselves up to outside scrutiny. They also have faced inspections more often – once every three years.

Inspections: The guide shows how long a hospice has gone since the last government inspection. A long span since the last inspection doesn’t mean that the hospice has dodged the inspectors. The reason for long times between inspections is that the federal government, partly due to funding shortfalls, has had hospices inspected only once every six years or so. Recent legislation is supposed to make them more frequent, however. Finally, keep in mind that this data is current through 2013. If a hospice has had an inspection more recently, it may not show up here.

Live-discharge rate: This statistic shows how many people leave the hospice alive and several industry experts have suggested it is a good reflection of quality.

The reason live discharge rate is useful may seem a bit counter-intuitive. In some cases, of course, leaving hospice alive is a good thing – because it means survival. But experts say that a live discharge rate much over 25 percent might be viewed as a warning because it may mean that the hospice is discharging patients when they need more care or enrolling patients who aren’t near death.

Spending: The guide includes data on how much the hospice spends per patient on nurses, doctors and therapy.

Patients receiving home visit in last two days: For patients receiving routine hospice care at home, the hardest days for the patient and family are often the last days prior to death. This measures the proportion of those patients who received a skilled visit from a nurse or therapist in those last two days.

These numbers come directly from the reports that the hospices file with Medicare. The Medicare cost reports, however, are unaudited, and some experts expressed caution about relying too much on them.

Finally, the guide should probably just mark the beginning of the shopping process. Experts advised interviewing hospices about their services, too. A list of questions suggested by the American Hospice Foundation may be found here .

Patients whose pain or other symptoms have flared out of control are supposed to be able to get continuous nursing care at home or general inpatient care. But more than one-in-seven hospices have not provided patients with either of those services, according to records. A majority of hospices have provided the special care less than one percent of the time. But some hospices more regularly provide the crisis services.

Spending Per Day on Patient Care

Hospices report how much they spend on average per patient for each day of hospice care they provide. Some hospices report spending less than $100 per day, while others spend at least twice that much.

The vast majority of the information presented is from Medicare cost reports and service provider listings, which are submitted to the government by the hospices themselves. Nevertheless, information is sometimes inaccurate. Some hospices affiliated with hospitals file different Medicare reports and are not included.
