SQL Server Backup Best Practices #database #backup #and #recovery, #sql #server

SQL Server Backup Best Practices

The absolute worst time to find out that your recovery plans don t work is right in the middle of a critical system restore. Follow these SQL Server backup best practices to ensure that you really can restore your system when (not if) it goes down.

Perform Full Backups Daily

A full database backup is the foundation for every DBA s data protection plan and in most cases should be performed daily. SQL Server supports online backups, allowing end users and SQL Server jobs to be active while the backup operation occurs. Even so, large databases can take a long time to back up. Strategies for reducing the backup window include backing up to disk and utilizing backup data compression.

Perform Frequent Transaction Log Backups

Next most important is to back up the transaction log, which contains all of the recent activity in the database and can be used to restore a database to a given point in time. Backing up the transaction log also truncates it, keeping it from becoming full. Like database backups, transaction log backups can occur while the system is active. Organizations with active databases might back up the transaction log every 10 minutes while those with less active databases might need to back up the transaction log only every half hour or every hour.

Regularly Back Up System Databases

Your backup strategy is incomplete without a plan to back up SQL Server system databases (master, model, msdb). These databases contain system configuration information as well as SQL Server job information that needs to be restored as part of a total system restore. Back up system databases daily for frequently changing instances, weekly for more stable installations.

Back Up the Host OS Daily

SQL Server runs on top of the OS and an event such as a hardware failure could require a complete system restore, beginning with the OS. Therefore, daily backups of the host OS are a good idea. At a minimum, back up the host system partition following any system updates or configuration changes.

Practice Recovery Operations

Changing business requirements can affect your plans, quickly making backup strategies obsolete. Test your strategies regularly in different scenarios, including both system and individual database restores, to ensure your backup plans really work when you need them.

The Missing Link to IT Resource
Christan Humphries

For her birthday, I gave my sister a card embossed with golden print that reads The economy stinks. Be happy you got this card. However disappointing the birthday gift (and my attempt at a joke) most likely was, the shiny message on it is accurate. And in this economy, which has forced companies to nudge and sometimes shove employees out of positions, I ve noticed a change in attitude toward job hunting. Here in the United States (and even in countries with better economies), it seems that changing jobs is not only accepted, it s almost expected. And just like on Match.com, It s OK to look. In fact, our network of IT products includes a free resource that even makes it easy to look: IT Job Hound.

IT Job Hound is an online job-search engine that concentrates on the IT industry. Job seekers can find recently posted positions from top IT companies on the site or via email job alerts no registration required! Whether you want to evaluate your skills, secure a new position, or completely change your job title, check out IT Job Hound at www.itjobhound.com. (If you re looking for gift ideas, give my sister a call.)

Mike, I am being pressured by the IS Director to use CA Backup Exec (or the like) in lew of regular SQL Server backups. I tried to explain how Full, Differential and Tran log backups are used to restore to a point in time by identifying T-SQL transactions and log sequence numbers. He insists that there are third part tools available that are easier to use (not a good reason in my book!) and continuously take pictures of changes. What is you take on said tools and which, if any, would you recomend. tnx, G. Douglas Clavell Seven Feathes Hotel and Casino Canyonville OR.

First of all, I’m assuming you are always backing up your SQL server to disk and the server people have already figured in the space requirements and have allocated that space to you. Remember, they are part of your backup plan. With that assumption, like the article says, you should backup changes every 10-30 minutes in case of hardware failure. How often you create a full backup is really up to the individual business to decide. The questions become, how long can you stand to be down? Restoring a full backup and a days worth of logs takes less time than a full and a weeks worth of logs. As to being able to restore to a certain point, as long as you are keeping the last 2 weeks of full and/or log backups on tape, you shouldn’t have a problem restoring to any point. So the questions become, how often do I want to transfer the SQL backups to tape? and how far in the past do I want to be able to restore to? Hopefully you are backup up to a seperate server in case the SQL server goes down. And hopefully you are taking the backup media offsite at least daily in case the data center burns down. Or you have a backup SAN offsite that you just copy the backups to once they are created, again, in case the data center burns. All in all, a great article explaining the use of full backups and transaction logs. Use some common sense to implement the right backup scheme for your environment using seperate servers or portable media.

Why a FULL backup every day? You realize you limit your ability to recover to a certain point of time with every FULL backup you perform. Suppose we need to go back 4 days ago because the corruption was noticed until then? Now how are you going restore? You already toasted your full backup a couple of days ago. I prefer a FULL once a week. And differentials throughout the production hours. After a week, my data has been clean enough to go through another weekly full backup. If a user then calls me and says on Thursday, I need the backup from Tuesday, I can easily say sure which one, morning, afternoon or evening. Doing fulls daily limits your ability to restore via multi-days. And if you attempt to SAVE your DAILY backups, and you have a large database, well you’ll have the server dept calling you. Do a full once a week. Do diffs between that time whatever the business needs decides. You’ll see your diff backups are much smaller. If you have an error, backup the tranlogs and go from there. If you need to restore you’ve got a lot of choices. Same thing with system dbs. And I’d be REALLY surprised if you’re MAKING changes DAILY on jobs, schedules, etc, creating new or altering your schema, or your one tired puppy! The article doesn’t even tell you why you back them up. And far be it from actually RESTORING the system databases. Me I set mine to once a month, or heck once a quarter, knowing if I had to, I’d just re-intall SQL and restore because messing around with system dbs are no fun and causes extra headaches when I can do a clean re-install. Not much of a BEST practice article. I was expecting a little more from Otey. disappointing. Andy

The most important thing about a backup is it works when you need it. To work it needs: 1) to be a complete backup set 2) current 3) supports a restore process that’s tested, works, and has contingency in it. When we set a backup schedule we look at what we’re trying to protect. We’ll reimage the OS in a heartbeat. So we only backup the OS weekly. If the DB has a warm standby, it only gets a full backup weekly and incrementals on the daily basis (plus the log backups during the day). More importantly than setting the schedule is confirming the backups are working. 1) did the jobs complete when expected? If they are late, it’s a sign your equipment is failing, or your requirements are changing, either require action. 2) are the restores working? You need to measure both of those things. Additionally, I measure the actions taken on #1 and #2. If the rate of action is changing. why..are we managing better or worse, and then what action should that drive. There’s a lot more to best practices for DB backup than setting a schedule.

Seems to omit the use of differential backups.

Treetops Hospice – Disaster Recovery Planning

Posted on: 19th May 2015

“Pyranet have taken the time to understand Treetops’ values and needs as a charity and company, and where the most critical points of our IT requirements are. Protecting patient information is our utmost priority and I have confidence and trust in Pyranet’s services to ensure this. Their service has been highly responsive, and they have taken the time to become familiar with the third party software that we use.”
About Treetops Hospice

Treetops Hospice provides respite and palliative care for adults with illnesses such as cancer, motor neurone disease and multiple sclerosis. It also provides help and support to their carers and families.

As one of Nottinghamshire’s leading charities, Treetops have multiple local charity shops, a newly developed dedicated bereavement centre and provide the ability for their nurses to deliver their services to patients at home.

The challenge

As companies become more and more aware of the dangers of online threats and the importance of protecting data from the unpredictable nature of disasters, ensuring that your IT investment and company data is protected by a thorough disaster recovery plan is paramount. As with many businesses, Treetops have increased their reliance on an IT infrastructure drastically over the last 5 years. They are one of millions of organisations that rely heavily on the day to day working of their computers and any disruption to this would be catastrophic to the organisation and its ability to function correctly.

Recognising this, Treetops and Pyranet collaborated on a project to enhance Treetops’ existing disaster recovery plan and ensure that in the event of a fire, flood, theft, hardware failure or any other disruption the systems are restored quickly and efficiently keeping downtime to an absolute minimum.

The approach

By establishing where the existing disaster recovery plan performed well, we were able to look at areas that needed development. We carried out a full disaster recovery diagnosis and this gave us the foundation to build a solid structure that ensured continuity and protection for both the hardware and software that the company relies heavily on.

We began by incorporating a high available server solution meaning that in the event of a failure of one of the physical servers, the second server took over and carried out the main rolls. This helped with the hardware failure aspect and reduced reliance on a single physical server. Alongside this, other hardware elements have been given resiliency including the router, switches and the broadband line itself removing all major single points of failure.

To ensure the data backup is stored safely and has the ability to be used effectively, our best practice is to ensure that backups are done on a continuous basis (not just once a night) and stored to an offsite location should an entire site disaster occur. By utilising a second site, we are able to ensure that the reliance on an individual person changing a backup disk or drive is entirely removed along with the perels of this such as forgetting to swap the backup media and the data can still be obtained quickly and reliably. It also means that the data we would restore from is as up to date as the data on the server right before the disaster, not hours or even days old.

The outcome

Thankfully, we haven’t had to utilise the backup facility as a whole yet however it is tested on a regular basis as part of the service provided by Pyranet to Treetops Hospice. Treetops are confident that in the event of a disaster their data is not only safe but also available to restore from straight away.

Heroin Detoxification

What is Detoxification?

Detoxification is a process that allows the body to get rid the drug that’s been abused while managing the symptoms of withdrawal that’s associated with the substance that’s been used. Detox is always the first step taken before addressing the user’s heroin addiction and working on their recovery.

Why Should a Heroin User Detox?

When heroin is abused it enters the brain and turns into morphine which then attach to opioid receptors in the brain and throughout the body. When a person is seeking treatment to overcome their addiction to heroin if they haven’t gotten rid of the chemicals that are still in their body they will continue to crave the drug and experience withdrawal. Until the chemicals are out of the body and withdrawal symptoms are managed it’s hard to focus on recovery. Detoxification can be very uncomfortable for anyone that’s abused heroin for any length of time. Due to the intense cravings and uncomfortable symptoms a person experiences during heroin detox, most people relapse before they’re able to complete this process if they attempt to detox on their own.

Because repeated heroin use also causes serious health conditions, it’s important to seek professional help from a qualified detox center or substance abuse treatment center instead of attempting detox on your own. The longer a person has abused heroin the more intense their cravings and withdrawal symptoms will also be.

Do I still Need Rehab Even Though I’m Going to Detox?

Detoxification is just the first step toward recovery from heroin abuse and addiction. The abuse of heroin doesn’t just cause physical dependence it affects a person mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well. Physical complications that heroin use has caused besides cravings and withdrawal have to be addressed if present, especially with long term use.

Many changes have to take place in a person’s life in order to maintain their abstinence and work toward recovery.

There is much more to recovering from heroin addiction than detoxification and without effective treatment after completing detox, most people go right back to using again in a short period of time.

What is Rapid Detox?

Rapid detoxification takes place under anesthesia and is performed by expert medical professionals and certified anesthesiologists. Rapid detox is a quick method of ridding the body of the drug that’s been abused eliminating cravings and withdrawal symptoms. This method of detox is not for everyone and extensive tests are done beforehand to make sure the patient is a good candidate for this form of detoxification.

How to successfully recover data from a failed RAID

Recovering data from a failed RAID can easily turn into a costly ordeal. Please read this page carefully before proceeding. If you would like to get help from experts, please consider using our fee-based RAID recovery service.

First determine whether the RAID is hardware-based or software-based. The recovery procedures are very different.

Recovering a hardware RAID

First determine if the problem is caused by the underlying RAID mechanism. If it is not, follow the simpler recovery procedures for an ordinary drive. The following causes of problem are not related to the RAID:

  • Virus attacks.
  • The volume being deleted, resized, reformatted or otherwise changed in Disk Manager or other disk management utilities.

If the problem seems to be in the RAID mechanism, determine the operating state of the RAID and take the appropriate actions.

Avoid the most common mistakes that may cause data to become unrecoverable.

Every day, 69 million children spend the day at a daycare center or school. Despite this, these institutions are left out of the preparedness and planning equation, sometimes without resources or the capacity to provide needed tools to quickly recover.

NCDP, partnered with GSK and Save the Children, to address this need for change With two pilot programs in the U.S. and a National Children’s Resilience Board, the Resilient Children Resilient Communities project (RCRC) will build a child-focused community resilience plan, as well as advocate for national policies supporting this vulnerable population.

Visualizing Social Media: New Tools for Research and Practice

Social media is an increasingly popular means of communication; nearly two-thirds of American adults use social networking sites as of 2015, according to the most recent Pew Research Report. Social media has tremendous potential as a communication tool during emergency situations, or to address public health goals. It provides a way for citizens to express their concerns and request help during a disaster, develop a connection and engage with civic entities at all levels, and mobilize in important ways to help communities during a disaster.

We now offer a free suite of trainings, tools, and resources focused on how social media can be utilized to enhance disaster response and speed recovery. This new suite offers an interactive online course, two video series on thought leadership and concepts in social media, and a literature review of current research and tools on the topic of social media in disasters.

Recovering a database with a missing transaction log #microsoft #sql #server, #sql #server #2005, #database, #server #crash, #backup, #recovery, #suspect #state, #transaction #log, #database #administration

Recovering a database with a missing transaction log

Question: We had a SAN problem over the weekend and the upshot is that one of our main databases was shut down with open transactions, but we ve lost the log file. The last working backup is two weeks old.

Is there any way to recover the database without having to resort to the old backup?

Answer: Yes, but not without consequences.

Usually when a database has open transactions and the server crashes, crash recovery will run on the affected database and roll back the open transactions. This prevents the partial effects of transactions being present in the database. If the transaction log is not available when SQL Server starts, the database will be in the SUSPECT state.

In this case, the only way to bring the database online (note that I m not saying way to make the database usable ) is to use the emergency mode repair functionality that was added in SQL Server 2005. This basically builds a new transaction log and then runs a DBCC CHECKDB using REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS. Read more .

The problem you will have if you decide to go this route is that emergency mode repair cannot roll back any of the active transactions as it has no knowledge of what they were, because the transaction log was destroyed. This means that at best, the resulting database will be transactionally inconsistent i.e. the state of the data in the database is unknown.

For instance, there may have been a transaction that was updating some sales records in a table, and only half of them were updated before the crash and subsequent transaction log loss occurred. You ll find it very difficult to figure out what state the data is in, and how to make the database properly usable again by the application.

Emergency mode repair is supposed to be a real last resort when all other methods of recovering data have failed.

In your case, you ll have to figure out what is the lesser of two evils recovering the database into an inconsistent state, or restoring the two-week old backup. You may end up deciding to do both, and trying to piece together the data, but that will be very time consuming and problematic again, because you don t know what was happening in the database at the time that the crash occurred.

To prevent this situation in future, beef up your backup strategy to use much more frequent backups, and add a high-availability technology that maintains a real-time copy of your database such as database mirroring or SQL Server 2012 Availability Groups.

What Is Cloud Backup? A Beginners Guide To Cloud Backup #amazon #s3 #cloud,cloud #backup,cloud #computing,cloud #server,disaster #recovery,enomaly,eucalyptus,online #backup

This beginner’s guide on Cloud Backup briefly explains the benefits as well as pitfalls of Cloud Backup solutions, notable cost effective Cloud Backup service providers etc in a simple way.

What Is Cloud Storage?

Cloud Storage is nothing but storage solution for the Internet. Cloud Storage Service Provider will have a cluster of highly scalable servers with simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. In simple terms, Cloud Storage, from an end user perspective is nothing but an unlimited amount of online disk space that is secure, inexpensive, highly available (mostly) to store/backup/restore data from PCs, Laptops and Servers.

Who Should Use Cloud Storage?

As mentioned earlier, Cloud Storage is nothing but Online Storage, so to access Cloud Storage, one needs to have high bandwidth internet connection. This requirement may be a problem for those who want to store time critical storage on the cloud. However, data recovery solutions that use cloud storage is viable as you would request for data restore not so frequently. For example, you are photographer and want to backup all of your photo collection. Then it makes perfect sense to have the photos backed up on the cloud. You would have secondary backup of your photos and incase your laptop crashes, you can always get your data restored almost immediately. Depending on the amount of photographic data that is there on the cloud it would take probably a few minutes or few hours. This is not really time critical. So, a Data Backup/Restore solution on Cloud Storage is Cloud Backup solution. Anyone who needs secured, backup on a remote server without much worries on maintaining the infrastructure will have to go for Cloud Storage Backup Solutions.

Data Encryption and Disaster Recovery On Cloud Backup

In Cloud Backup solution, your data resides on an external server outside your home or office, so the data needs to be protected. All of the Cloud backup solutions offer state of the art Data Encryption facility so that your data is compressed and encrypted so that others are unable to use them. Since the data that is backed up is on a remote location, there is a fair amount of disaster recovery is involved. More over, Cloud Storage servers will have data redundancy implemented internally.

Advantages of Cloud Backup Service

  • Safe and secured way of backing up data on a remote data storage
  • Accessible from anywhere
  • Usually cheap with pay as you go model
  • Inbuilt disaster recovery facility
  • Highly scalable – no cap on storage limit
  • Data backup can be automated
  • No need to worry about hardware infrastructure to maintain

Disadvantages of Cloud Backup Service

  • High Internet bandwidth is needed
  • Your data resides on 3rd party Servers, if they close the shop, then you need to worry about your data (If it ever happens, It can be handled easily though)
  • Most of the Cloud Backup service providers charge based on data backed up. So, if you have more data, then you will be charged more. However, there are more and more service providers who are giving flat rate plans such as Mozy that charges $5/month for unlimited usage.

It is seen by industry experts that for large enterprise with Large amount of data that frequently changes with limited network connectivity, the traditional on premise data backup solution works out better and cheaper.

Cloud Backup Vendors

There are many such vendors. But the most noted ones that are cost effective are;

Most of the Cloud Backup service providers use Amazon’s S3 Cloud Infrastructure. Amazon S3 is mostly used but has couple of alternatives such as Nirvanix. Eucalyptus. Enomaly Cloud etc.

Well, not really
Cloud Backup should support
Blocklevel or Delta backup, some of the above don t so if I m uploading 1 GB file, next time changed 1 Byte, will take it again.
I prefer Cloud Disaster Recovery
And Cloud Disaster Recovery means true global dedupelication technology with all the above, don t have!!
I prefer pure cloud backup, not proprietary storage, like Amazon,we all do remember carbonite lost their data in 2009.
Completely mobility access, I m paying for the cloud, i need for access anytime any where, why should i use a software without mobility access
If for business,it should have a true complete cloud management console
it should be easy to use and no real performance impact

Hope this will help

Forgot to say, I tested many software s and the best 2 I found were Mozy and Timeline Cloud, just for your info, but i went with Timeline Cloud, because they are using Amazon and they have cloud Disaster recovery

Great article explaining cloud backup services and Online Data Backup Services

This is very helpful. Thank you. I have an additional question. Is there a service that not only back-ups your info, but also allows you to access files and work on them remotely. In others words a service that would allow me to have a home computer and an office computer and access files from both sites.
Thank you.

Not much of a review without the market leaders in it.
Where is SOS Online Backup, for one? Where is SpiderOak?
This review is just an info-mercial for kick backs.

Trauma Interventions – Turning Point Recovery CenterTurning Point Recovery Center #turning #point #recovery #center

Trauma Interventions

There are two types of trauma — physical and mental. Physical trauma includes the body’s response to serious injury and threat. Mental trauma includes frightening thoughts and painful feelings. They are the mind’s response to serious injury. Mental trauma can produce strong feelings. It can also produce extreme behavior; such as intense fear or helplessness, withdrawal or detachment, lack of concentration, irritability, sleep disturbance, aggression, hyper vigilance (intensely watching for more distressing events), or flashbacks.

A response could be fear. It could be fear that a loved one will be hurt or killed. It is believed that more direct exposure to traumatic events causes greater harm. For instance, in a school shooting, an injured student will probably be more severely affected emotionally than a student who was in another part of the building. However, second-hand exposure to violence can also be traumatic. This includes witnessing violence such as seeing or hearing about death and destruction after a building is bombed or a plane crashes.

Causes of emotional or psychological trauma

An event will most likely lead to emotional or psychological trauma if:

  • It happened unexpectedly.
  • You were unprepared for it.
  • You felt powerless to prevent it.
  • It happened repeatedly.
  • Someone was intentionally cruel.
  • It happened in childhood.

Emotional and psychological trauma can be caused by single-blow, one-time events, such as a horrible accident, a natural disaster, or a violent attack. Trauma can also stem from ongoing, relentless stress, such as living in a crime-ridden neighborhood or struggling with cancer.

Symptoms of emotional and psychological trauma

Following a traumatic event, or repeated trauma, people react in different ways, experiencing a wide range of physical and emotional reactions. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to think, feel, or respond to trauma, so don’t judge your own reactions or those of other people. Your responses are NORMAL reactions to ABNORMAL events.

Emotional and psychological symptoms of trauma:

  • Shock, denial, or disbelief
  • Anger, irritability, mood swings
  • Guilt, shame, self-blame
  • Feeling sad or hopeless
  • Confusion, difficulty concentrating
  • Anxiety and fear
  • Withdrawing from others
  • Feeling disconnected or numb
  • Insomnia or nightmares
  • Being startled easily
  • Racing heartbeat
  • Aches and pains
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Edginess and agitation
  • Muscle tension

Physical symptoms of trauma:

These symptoms and feelings typically last from a few days to a few months, gradually fading as you process the trauma. But even when you’re feeling better, you may be troubled from time to time by painful memories or emotions–especially in response to triggers such as an anniversary of the event or an image, sound, or situation that reminds you of the traumatic experience.

Helping someone deal with emotional and psychological trauma

It can be difficult to know how to help a loved one who’s suffered a traumatic or distressing experience, but your support can be a crucial factor in their recovery.

  • Be patient and understanding. Healing from emotional or psychological trauma takes time. Be patient with the pace of recovery and remember that everyone’s response to trauma is different. Don’t judge your loved one’s reaction against your own response or anyone else’s.
  • Offer practical support to help your loved one get back into a normal routine. That may mean help with collecting groceries or housework, for example, or simply being available to talk or listen.
  • Don’t pressure your loved one into talking but be available when they want to talk. Some trauma survivors find it difficult to talk about what happened. Don’t force your loved one to open up but let them know you are there to listen whenever they feel ready.
  • Help your loved one to socialize and relax. Encourage them to participate in physical exercise, seek out friends, and pursue hobbies and other activities that bring them pleasure. Take a fitness class together or set a regular lunch date with friends.
  • Don’t take the trauma symptoms personally. Your loved one may become angry, irritable, withdrawn, or emotionally distant. Remember that this is a result of the trauma and may not have anything to do with you or your relationship.

One way of processing and dealing with Trauma is with EMDR.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) incorporates elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy with bilateral eye movements or other forms of rhythmic, left right stimulation. One of the key elements of EMDR is “dual stimulation.” During treatment, you are asked to think or talk about memories, triggers, and painful emotions while simultaneously focusing on your therapist’s moving finger or another form of bilateral stimuli.

In a typical EMDR therapy session, you focus on traumatic memories and associated negative emotions and beliefs while tracking your therapist’s moving finger with your eyes as it moves back and forth across your field of vision.

Other forms of external stimuli that may be used in EMDR therapy include bilateral tactile sensations and sounds (e.g. alternating hand taps or a chime that pans back and forth from ear to ear).

How does EMDR therapy work?

At the time of a traumatic event, strong emotions interfere with our ability to completely process the experience and one moment becomes “frozen in time.” Recalling the traumatic event may feel as though the person is reliving the event all over again because the images, smells, sounds and feelings are still there and can be triggered in the present. When activated, these memories cause a negative impact on our daily functioning and interfere with the way we see ourselves and our world, and how we relate to others. EMDR therapy appears to directly affect the brain, “unfreezing” the traumatic memories, allowing you to resolve them. Over time the disturbing memory and associated beliefs, feelings, sensations become “digested” or worked through until you are able to think about the event without reliving it. The memory is still there, but it is less upsetting.

The exact mechanism for the effectiveness of EMDR is yet unknown. It appears that using rapid eye movements relieves the anxiety associated with the trauma so that the original event can be examined from a more detached perspective, somewhat like watching a movie of what happened. This enables you to access positive ways of reframing the original trauma and to release the body’s stored negative emotional charges around it (desensitization).

Some experts have noted that the eye movements involved in EMDR might be similar to what occurs naturally during dreaming or REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. It may be thought of as a physiologically-based therapy that allows a person to see material in a new and less distressing way. Others believe it reactivates parts of the brain that were “shut down” as a coping mechanism. In this way cognitive reorganizing takes place, allowing the negative, painful emotions to give way to more resolved, empowered feelings.

Early Symptoms of Liver Damage From Alcohol

by COREY LEIDENFROST Last Updated: Sep 17, 2011

Corey Leidenfrost has been writing and working as a mental health therapist since 2001. His published works include college newsletters, articles for the “Batavia Daily News” and creative writing anthologies. He holds a Master of Arts in psychology from State University of New York-Brockport and is pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Walden University.

Symptoms of liver damage due to alcohol general due not emerge until the disease is in advanced stages. Photo Credit Stockbyte/Stockbyte/Getty Images

Heavy consumption of alcohol over a period of many years may result in liver damage; however, the National Digestive Diseases Clearinghouse states that the amount of alcohol needed to causes damage varies from individual. Symptoms often do not emerge until the damage to the liver becomes advanced, according to MedlinePlus. These symptoms may differ from each individual and will tend to worsen following incidents of heavy alcohol consumption.

Reduced liver functioning due to damage results in high amounts of bile pigment or bilirubin in the blood. As a result the skin and whites of the eyes turn yellow. Additionally, the University of Maryland Medical Center indicates that urine may become dark due to bilirubin passing through the kidneys. The University of Maryland Medical Center states that jaundice is often the first symptom of liver damage and may remain the only sign present.

In the early stages of liver damage the liver may become inflamed; a reaction to infection and an effort to repair damage. As a result the liver will become enlarged and result in potential abdominal pain and tenderness, according to MedlinePlus. The swelling of the liver is known as alcoholic hepatitis. The American Liver Foundation identifies symptoms associated with this condition, including loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and fever.

In the early stages of liver disease caused by alcoholism, the American Liver Foundation indicates that fat may accumulate in the liver, a condition called fatty liver disease. Symptoms generally do not accompany this condition, according to the American Liver Foundation. If symptoms do develop they may include fatigue, weakness and weight loss.

Liver damage may result in fluid leaking from the liver and intestines. This fluid will accumulate in the abdominal cavity, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, resulting in a symptom called ascites. As a result of fluid buildup, the abdominal cavity may become distended, causing discomfort and shortness of breath. MedlinePlus indicates that the individual may gain weight due to the buildup of fluid in the abdomen.

General Symptoms

Other symptoms may emerge in the early stages of liver damage. MedlinePlus identifies that an individual may experience dry mouth, excessive thirst, fever and nausea. Other symptoms identified by MedlinePlus include, agitation, bloody bowel movements, breast development in males, changes in mood, attention problems, concentration problems, impaired judgment, light-headedness, paleness, redness on the feet or hands, sluggishness and vomiting blood. The University of Maryland Medical Center warns that symptoms associated with alcohol-induced liver disease may also be caused by other conditions and diseases, therefore, an individual should seek medical care to determine the cause of the problems.

Hard Drive Data recovery Software #best #data #recovery, #best #file #recovery, #best #software #to #recover #deleted #files

Hard Drive Data Recovery
with Disk Drill for Windows

Data loss costs businesses and individuals around the world billions each year in lost revenues. While hard drives are becoming more reliable with each passing year, they still leave a lot to be desired. Virtually all IT professionals preach the importance of backing up critical data but only a few know how to effectively deal with data loss. Those who do know recommend Disk Drill — a premier free hard drive data recovery software for Windows.

Free version recovers up to 1GB

Disk Drill for Windows is unique because it can undelete files from the emptied Recycle Bin by looking at the underlying file system. With the free version of Disk Drill for Windows, it’s possible to find all lost files and recover up to 1GB of data. In other words, you can download a professional application used by some of the world’s largest enterprises and use it to recover your lost documents and files without paying a single cent — a value like this is hard to come by.

#1 Successfully recover files from hard drive

Disk Drill is designed to work straight out of the box, requiring almost no user input. Still, there’s one crucial thing you can do to increase your chances of successful recovery: act quickly. Your hard drive is like a living, breathing organism. Just like cells in the human body constantly regenerate, so does the content of your hard drive changes. As you create files, download stuff from the internet, perform system maintenance, or watch online videos, your operating system is writing and rewriting huge quantities of data. When you delete something, you’re essentially telling your system that the deleted file may be overwritten. Once something else is stored in its place, even Disk Drill won’t help you get it back.

When you find out that you’ve accidentally deleted a file, stop whatever you’re doing and download and install Disk Drill right away. If you act quickly, you are almost guaranteed to get your file back intact.

1 Download Disk Drill

3 Start Disk Drill for Windows

#2 How to perform hard drive recovery

To recover files from hard drive using Disk Drill for Windows, all you have to do is press the Recover button. Disk Drill requires as little user input as possible, and there’s no way how you could mess something up. Even though the software is self-explanatory, we’ve also prepared an extensive online knowledge base that covers all common data recovery scenarios, including how to recover data from hard drive or how to perform external hard drive data recovery.

#3 Free hard drive recovery software

One of the best things about Disk Drill for Windows is the fact that you can try it for free. Recover up to 1GB to test how it works and decide whether you need more. When you see just how useful it is to have the ability to install recover any deleted files, we’re convinced that you’ll want to keep Disk Drill installed on your system indefinitely.

Disk Drill automatically scans your whole hard drive, looking for lost or deleted files. You can choose whether you would like Disk Drill to quickly scan the content of your hard drive or perform deep analysis of the underlying file system. With support for over 300 file formats and all popular storage devices, you can rest assured knowing that you will see your missing files again in no time.

How to recover data
from hard drive for free

Disk Drill for Windows comes with a number of useful data recovery, protection, and management tools. These tools can help you better organize the content of your hard drive, monitor its health, and back up your most important files and folders. Even though they could be sold as stand-alone products, they are included with Disk Drill for free. One of them is the Recovery Vault, which is like a deposit box for files that you absolutely can’t afford to lose. Once a file is in the Recovery Vault, Disk Drill will proactively monitor its status and create backups.

#4 Hard drive recovery – final steps

Once Disk Drill finishes the data recovery process, it will present you with a list of files. Select anything you deem worthy of recovering and choose the destination folder for restored data. Confirm your selection, and that’s all! Your data are now recovered and ready to be used. As you can see, hard drive recovery with Disk Drill for Windows couldn’t be simpler.

Disk Drill for Windows supports all external hard drives and USB flash drives. Once you connect an external storage device to your Windows computer, you will be able to recover files from it using Disk Drill.

Disk Image Software

January 8 2014, Richard Pardoe,
technology blogger

Imagine the situation: you’ve just created an image of a really valuable disk. Maybe it’s an image of favourite DVD that you’re taking on holiday, or perhaps it’s a backup of a solid state hard drive containing critical business data.

October 9 2013, Richard Pardoe,
technology blogger

Data is a precious commodity, and a significant data loss can cause havoc in your personal life, career or business.

In today’s digital age, we’re all well aware of the importance of backups. But how many of us are really doing them regularly? If the computer you were reading this on suddenly died, would all your crucial data be safely stowed away somewhere else and easily recoverable?

Keep Your Data Safe Using Disk Image Software

August 27 2013, James Ford
a computer specialist for a medium-sized company

Disk image software provides the ultimate solution to data backup since it allows you to make a complete, byte-by-byte copy of an entire disk without the risk of missing anything important.

An error appears indicating the CreateSnapshotSet() failed. What should I do?

August 8 2012, RobinZon
a data backup software reviewer

If you, like me, find yourself in a constant struggle, trying to keep your computer under control in terms of starting up and keeping your data safe; you should try Disk Image, a program I recently started using. In short, the name describes what it does.

This software helps create a disk image of your computer, which is basically like a backup of your entire machine (you can choose to save less if you want). What’s awesome about this software though is that it comes with more than just the tools to do that. It also comes with a powerful feature called “Boot Disk”. But I’ll talk about that later on in this… review, I guess?

“A great way to restore computers from unstable states”

August 2 2012, Michael Findley
a small business owner in the GTA

RAID Data Recovery from failed server arrays, SAN and NAS by ACE Data Recovery #raid # #data #recovery, #raid #data #recovery #services

RAID Data Recovery Services

Our dedicated team of RAID data recovery engineers is trained to handle all of the current RAID hardware platforms as well as SAN and NAS appliances commonly utilized in the market today.

Complex fault-tolerant systems can also suffer from a crash. Often, failure to correctly implement these systems leads to point of malfunction and can cause data loss. This is human error and not shortcomings of the technology used or the design of the array.

Even the best-configured RAID system can fail due to:

  • RAID Controller failure
  • Multiple drive failure
  • Accidental replacement of media components
  • Accidental reformatting of drives or whole RAID array
  • Array configuration lost
  • Intermittent drive failure resulting in RAID degradation

Free external hard drive or usb flash with each completed recovery

Professional RAID Array Data Recovery

ACE Data Recovery has extensive experience in recovery from failed RAID ‘s, including parity-distributed and basic spanned or striped volumes. We only require the active members of the array in order to recover lost data – no controllers, cables or enclosures. If you are asked for the original RAID controller or array system by a data recovery company, be careful – you may be risking recoverable data to an inexperienced firm!

RAID Levels with different architectures have a lot of similarity, but each type also has its own “favorite” failures and different techniques to handle too:

  • RAID 0 Data Recovery
  • RAID 1 Data Recovery
  • RAID 10 Data Recovery
  • RAID 5 (50) Data Recovery
  • RAID 6 (60) Data Recovery

RAID Data Recovery – Our High Priority

Every single RAID data recovery case which arrives at our labs receives high priority importance because we know and understand them to be a top priority for most organizations. Our disk recovery process, coupled with our ability to produce a safe sector-to sector dump of the complete volume, allows us to process an array as a collection of image files. RAID recovery of crashed members of the array is similar to hard drive recovery procedures.

We are expert in all Disk Based Hardware and Software RAID Array Configurations :

You can compare different RAID level advantage at RAID Level Comparison table.

Deep experience in data recovery

I recently had a Seagate NAS drive that was rendered inaccessible. Best Buy recommended I take it to ACE Data Recovery. ACE ended up having to rebuild the entire drive to access the data. I am extremely pleased with the results now that I can access all my data. ACE was able to lift all the half-terrabyte of data and copy to a new external hard drive. These guys also do a free diagnostic. However be prepared that data recovery is an expensive proposition. But I highly recommend a local service like ACE.

All further procedures to recover data from array members are done on the raw images, leaving original drives intact. Our advanced software tools will extract the data from the images. When a drive image is not available, the tools can reconstruct the data ‘on-the-fly’ in the same way that the RAID rebuild process would have done on the original system.

After determining what steps will be necessary to complete your RAID data recovery. we will contact you for approval. No work will be done without your approval. As soon as you approve the quotation, our engineers will continue with the recovery process.

Our RAID data recovery process meets manufacturer’s requirements.

We recover data from any hard drive RAID arrays made by but not limited to the following manufacturers:

Hard Drive Recovery for any type, model or brand

Trusted Hard Drive (HDD) Data Recovery

Hard disk drives (HDD) store all of our critical business and personal files, from account records and contracts to digital photos of loved ones. Although the content on the failed hard disk drive(s) may differ greatly, the sense of shock and despair can be frighteningly similar. Fortunately Kroll Ontrack has been pioneering HDD data recovery methods for more than 30 years.

Hard drive recovery tip:

To ensure the most successful hard drive recovery, turn off your computer or storage device to minimise further damage.

Call 1800 872 259
if critical data is at risk.

We recover data from all types of data storage

Kroll Ontrack can recover files from any brand, model or make of hard drive. Our Ontrack HDD Data Recovery services are recognised by major hard drive manufacturers and we are authorised by Western Digital, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Samsung and Toshiba to unseal hard disk drives for recovery without voiding the manufacturer s warranty.

We recover data from all types of data loss

Our engineers classify hard drive data loss in two categories:

Logical Failure: The hard drive is in working order but some files or data cannot be accessed for reasons such as a lost partition, accidental reformatting, viruses, corrupt files, damaged files or accidental deletion of files.

Mechanical Failure: The hard drive is not functioning; the device is not turning on or it is not being read correctly. The most common causes are head crashes and motor failures. These failures are often characterised by strange grinding, scratching or clicking noises coming from the device.

Tips For Hard Drive Data Loss – Water Damaged Hard Drives

If your hard drive experiences water damage, DO NOT TRY TO DRY IT OUT. Drying the hard drive can lead to corrosion and further data loss. Place the hard drive in an air tight zip lock bag and post it as soon as possible to a Kroll Ontrack office for hard drive data recovery services.

Tips For Hard Drive Data Loss – Hard Drives That Are Making Noises

If your hard drive is making strange clicking or grinding noises turn it off immediately. This noise might be an indication that your drive has experienced a head crash and is not reading the data correctly and can result in permanent unrecoverable damage to your files.

If your hard drive is making strange noises, call 1800 872 259 to prevent damage.

Tips For Hard Drive Data Loss – Missing, Reformatted Or Accidentally Deleted Files

If you have accidentally deleted files and you need to recover them then you may want to try our DIY data recovery software; you can download a free trial of the software that will tell you if your files are recoverable. If the files are recoverable, you may simply purchase the full license of the software to download the data.

We are trusted by hundreds of Australian organisations to recover encrypted data.

Your data is encrypted for a reason. Trust Kroll Ontrack to keep your data secure and private while it’s being recovered.

Security Protocols

Kroll Ontrack engineers use strict data security protocols to ensure data privacy through all stages of the data recovery process in our Australian facilities. Your data is secure from the time we receive to the time we return it to you. Kroll Ontrack can encrypt your recovered data before its return.

Kroll Ontrack requires that end users or administrators provide their encryption information (user key, password or pass-phrase) in order to recover encrypted data. Please be prepared to provide this information to your data recovery specialist in order to save time on our recovery.

Recovering Data From An Encrypted Hard Drive

Recovering from hard disk drives that are encrypted follows the same handling procedures as all other media. The process is outlined in the following high-level steps:

  1. Hard drive operation assessment
  2. Cleanroom escalation (as necessary when physical or electronics damage is present)
  3. Image drive data
  4. Secure original media
  5. Decryption process
  6. Create Ontrack Verifile list of recoverable data and send to the customer for approval
  7. Repair file system
  8. Prepare data for delivery
  9. Encryption of data for delivery

Ontrack Data Recovery Revolutionised The Decryption Process

Our new “decryption-on-the-fly” process drastically reduces the time it takes to decrypt a drive and produces better results. This proprietary process scans only the portions of the drive which contain data. We can image more data in a shorter amount of time than the traditional process which significantly reduces your downtime.

Kroll Ontrack requires a user key, password, pass-phrase, or encryption software key file in order to decrypt the data. Some companies may also utilize a challenge/response methodology for providing the decryption credentials for their environment. Kroll Ontrack engineers will work with the provider of those credentials once we receive your media for recovery.

Check Your Organisation’s Security Policy

If providing any login credentials is against an organisation’s security policy, there are a few other options for data recovery. Kroll Ontrack is able recover the data through our standard process in its encrypted form on a new piece of media. The data will remain encrypted until you receive it back and it is opened by someone with a key. Since Kroll Ontrack is unable to produce a report of recoverable files, the customer will not know if we succeeded in recovering the critical data until they decrypt it.

The Grief Recovery Method is the most comprehensive and effective process I have seen in my 20 years as a therapist for dealing with grief and unresolved issues from the past….I use The Grief Recovery Method in my counseling practice, in training sessions, speaking engagements, at my church, and in Outreach Programs I conduct….The Grief Recovery Method Certification Training has provided me with a specialized area of focus for my private practice along with better tools to help my clients.

Tucson, AZ
Licensed Professional Counselor

The most beneficial outcome of The Grief Recovery Method Certification Training is that I can pretty much guarantee my clients a life after grief because of The Grief Recovery Method….I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. I use The Grief Recovery Training and materials every day in my work with clients. The most significant emotional experience I have in my therapeutic tools is The Grief Recovery Method….I am respected in my community as someone to turn to when grievers need help.

Newhall, CA
MFT – Marriage and Family Therapist

The Grief Recovery Method has given me fantastic tools to help grievers work through their issues in a step by step manner. I have seen HUGE changes in people during the 8 week program. I know I am facilitating a process which greatly HELPS people….As the Bereavement Coordinator at Crossroads Hospice in Cincinnati, I use The Grief Recovery Method Outreach Program to help families of our patients deal with grief and loss.

I thoroughly enjoy doing my One on One client work and I will continue to do so as long as I have my Holistic Health Practice. Why? IT WORKS….My clients have had liberating results after going through The Grief Recovery Method with me. Many have made the same comment; I had tried so many other things and nothing worked, but this did!….Even though there are other options for the support of grievers, none of them really move grievers past the pain of loss like the program formulated by John and Russell.

When visiting hospital/hospice patients and families, I encounter many grieving people and I am able to counter many of the myths and comments they have heard, and convince them they can complete the unfinished business they are carrying….As a hospital chaplain, I am offering The Grief Recovery Method to the staff and community.

What Makes Us Different?

Non-Traditional Groups

Traditional support groups encourage grievers to talk about their pain but don’t always offer (a path to feeling better instead of clear cut solutions). You will use the official Grief Recovery format to guide your participants to take clear actions that will lead them to a happier life.

Straight From the Heart

Grief is normal and natural emotional reaction to loss, but most of the solutions people are taught are intellectual. You’ll guide people from their heads to their hearts, which will improve the quality of their lives. Although the training is partially educational, the solution is emotional.

Loss is our Only Topic

If you’re like most people you relate grief to death, but here are over 40 types of loss people can experience in their lifetime! Since grief is normal and natural we don’t want to confuse it with personality disorders. We deal with grief and grief only!

PCI DSS Compliant Hosting

Protect your Infrastructure and Achieve Compliance

As a company that processes credit card transactions, or stores credit card information, you are a target. In June 2014, the motivation behind 58% of all hacking attempts was Cyber Crime. There are new security breaches in the news every few months, usually affecting millions of credit card holders.

This means obtaining PCI DSS compliance for your business is more than a regulatory necessity. It is the way to ensure your business, and your customers, are protected. The maximum fine for PCI DSS compliance violations is £50,000. However, the loss of trust in your business due to a security breach could be devastating. Contrary to popular belief, obtaining PCI DSS compliance doesn’t have to be hard. All you need is a trusted partner with the experience and commitment to help you.

Global organisations trust us

We currently offer Level 1 PCI DSS compliant hosting to multinational corporations such as AXA Travel Insurance, AXA Assistance, LANDesk and TrustPay Global. They turned to us because we know what is necessary to become, and stay, compliant:

  • Reviewing current systems and procedures
  • Understanding what level is required
  • Developing a cost effective compliant hosting solution
  • Managing compliance through migration
  • We partner with industry leading QSA’s
  • Assisting through the assessment process
  • Continued monitoring for annual reviews
  • Adjusting hosting needs as business needs change

Our network and management infrastructures are audited manually and these audits are submitted to VISA, who then endorses us with being Level 1 PCI Compliant. We perform annual audits and quarterly network scans, we are licensed to process in excess of 24 million transactions per year on our hosting architectures.

Let us worry about the details. You worry about your business.

Whether you need PCI Level 1, 2, 3, or 4 – or if you are not yet sure – our specialised technicians will work with you to create a solution tailored to your business. Our managed PCI services include the following:

Design, build, deploy and manage

We help you every step of the way: information security policies, secure network architecture design, and gap analysis. This is a core element of our day to operations within Netplan.

Network Vulnerability Scans

We manage the network starting with a “deny-all” default firewall setting, then maintain it with the latest patches, anti-virus agents, and enforce remote authentication to individuals. These measures ensure you have up to date protection from the latest threats, and fulfils annual PCI DSS hosting compliance requirements.

Penetration Testing

Customised penetration testing service provides a comprehensive analysis of your level of protection against compromise. This includes network and application security testing provided by an approved scanning vendor.

Working with your Qualified Security Assessor (QSA)

We are ready to work with your existing QSA, or can recommend one. Our experience means we understand the importance of the relationship between you and the QSA in making audits quick and efficient.

Audit Support

The key to a successful and painless audit is a proper log trail. We provide all the data (security logs, policies, testing results, etc.) you need to satisfy your QSA and prove your compliance requirements.

24x7x365 monitoring and auditing

In addition to ensuring network performance, our constant monitoring means that nothing happens without proper documentation. You will always have the evidence you need for your audit.

Do I need to be PCI DSS compliant?

If your business processes credit card transactions, or maintains paper records, you need to be PCI DSS compliant. It doesn’t matter if you only take credit card orders over the phone, in person, on your website, or through a third party processor. The requirements though, for becoming PCI DSS compliant depend upon how you take and maintain credit card information. If you have questions, contact us today and we can help you determine if you need PCI DSS compliant hosting.

Finding the best solution for your business

The goal of many companies offering hosting for PCI compliance is just that – to get you a compliance certificate. They will help you do what’s necessary to check off the boxes and pass your audit. The solutions they offer will meet the minimum requirements for your PCI level.

At Netplan we work with you to determine the right security solutions to meet your needs and regulatory requirements. Often this means that the services we provide exceed the standards set by PCI DSS.

Talk to us now to discuss how Netplan can provide your perfect PCI hosting solution

Guaranteed compliance or your money back

It may be a bold statement, but we can confidently guarantee PCI compliance at the appropriate level for your business. Which standards apply to you varies based on the number of transactions you process annually as well as other details relating to data storage and infrastructure. We can ensure that you have the proper solution and that you’ll achieve compliance or we will give your money back.

Every minute your business is not compliant is a minute that you are vulnerable to fraud and cyber-attacks. Contact us today for a free consultation with one of our PCI compliance experts. We’ll work with you to make obtaining PCI compliance as quick and stress free as possible.

PCI Compliance levels explained

PCI Compliance levels are determined by the various credit card issuing brands such as Visa and MasterCard. The following categories define the criteria used by Visa, however most other brands refer to Visa, or have similar definitions to determine compliance levels.

6 million or more transactions per year

Level 1 compliance is required for any merchant processing six million or more transactions per year, regardless of channel. All transactions performed by the merchant are aggregated, whether they occurred over the phone, in person or online. All transactions performed by the merchant are aggregated if the data is stored, processed or transmitted together, even if the transactions are performed under multiple Doing Business As (DBA) organisations. Car Accident TBI

Over half of all reported traumatic brain injuries are the result of an automobile accident. A traumatic brain injury can occur as a result of any force that penetrates or fractures the skull; areas which are susceptible during an auto accident.

Trauma to the brain can occur during an automobile accident when the skull strikes, for example, an object like a steering wheel or windshield. There may or may not be an open wound to the skull due to the accident, however in automobile accidents, the skull may not necessarily need to have been penetrated or fractured for a traumatic brain injury to occur. In the case of an automobile accident the sheer force of the accident can cause the brain to collide against the internal hard bone of the skull. The reason why this can occur is that when a moving head comes to a quick stop, the brain continues in its movement, striking the interior of the skull. This can cause bruising of the brain (referred to as a contusion) and bleeding (brain hemorrhage) which may not be visible at the time of injury.

Blunt trauma is a more serious type of head injury that can occur in an automobile accident when a moving head strikes a stationary object like the windshield, where the head is impacted causing an open wound which can be sustained from a variety of sources such as roof crush or occupant ejection in a car accident. At impact the brain opposite the site of impact is pulled away from the skull, injuring the brain there.

When a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or any type of severe injury in which the occupants of a motor vehicle have sustained serious, debilitating injuries severely affecting their way of life, there are a number of factors that should be evaluated. In some cases the extent of the injury may have been more severe due to outside factors that contributed to the accident.

Crashworthiness is a term used to define the ability of a structure, such as an automobile, to protect its occupants during an impact. The crashworthiness of a vehicle is a term used commonly when testing and investigating the safety of vehicles. In the case of an automobile accident which has led to a more severe injury such as a traumatic brain injury, you may want to discuss your case with an experienced attorney to find out if your injury was caused by factors outside of the types of injuries that one may see in a motor vehicle accident.

Depending on the nature of the impact and the vehicle involved, different criteria are used to determine the crashworthiness of the structure. In a crashworthiness case, it doesn t matter whose fault the accident was, and it doesn t matter how the accident occurred; the real question in the case is, Did the vehicle protect the person driving and the passenger(s) as it should have in the crash, according to attorney Joel Rosen of the law firm of Cohen, Placitella and Roth.

There is a duty known as the crashworthiness doctrine which states that although a collision may not be the normal or intended use of a motor vehicle, vehicle manufacturers must take accidents into consideration as reasonably forseeable occurences involving their products. The design and manufacture of products should not be carried out in an industrial vacuum, but with recognition of the realities of everyday use The manufacturer must evaluate the crashworthiness of his product and take such steps as may be reasonable and practicable to forestall particular crash injuries, continues attorney Joel Rosen.

In the case of an automobile accident, a traumatic brain injury may have occurred due to an automotive defect. Cases of an automotive defect have recently been featured in the news such as sudden acceleration, in which the vehicle suddenly accelerates due to a manufacturing defect. In these types of cases, there is a pre-existing defect in the vehicle, which may have actually caused the accident to occur. An automotive defect or defective part, can include anything from defective seatbelts, defective airbags, defective seatbelts, child seat safety failures or product recalls, tire failure or defective tires, improper window glazing, laminated versus tempered glass on windshields, side and rear windows, faulty door latches, improperly designed roofs which can crush in a car accident which results in a rollover, or defects in the vehicle which lead to rollovers.

When these types of automotive defects contribute to the accident, it can lead to more severe injuries for the victims.

No one expects to get hurt. But if you or a loved one has been injured in an automobile accident, you need to someone who can stand up for you, protect your rights and fight for what is fair.

You ll want to contact an attorney who has the experience you and your family need. The lawyer will be able to assist in determining if you are entitled to compensatory damages for your injuries from those responsible due to at-fault, negligent, reckless or aggressive drivers or by other means such as defective parts, defective or recalled vehicle, or automotive design defects. These include the cost of medical bills, property damage, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Victims may also be entitled to punitive damages, which are designed to punish the defendant for their reckless behavior in the case of automotive negligence/ liability claims. LASEK Laser Eye Surgery #lasek, #lasik, #prk, #eye, #surgery, #vision, #glasses, #contacts, #cornea, #side #effects, #recovery

LASEK Eye Surgery

LASEK is an eye surgery that combines many of the benefits of other vision correction surgeries.

Laser epithelial keratomileusis, or LASEK, combines benefits of the two most commonly performed procedures — LASIK and PRK. LASEK eye surgery is used to treat astigmatism. nearsightedness. or farsightedness .

What Are the Advantages of LASEK Eye Surgery?

LASEK surgery is said to have several advantages, including:

  • Complications associated with creating and reattaching the flap in the cornea are avoided.
  • LASEK eye surgery causes dry eye less frequently than LASIK eye surgery .

In LASEK eye surgery, various techniques are used to retain the very thin corneal surface layer of cells (epithelium) that is used to recover the cornea after the laser sculpting is performed. With LASIK. a thicker flap is created using a laser or mechanical device (microkeratome) under which the laser sculpting is done.

What Are the Disadvantages of LASEK Eye Surgery?

Disadvantages of LASEK eye surgery include:

  • Longer visual recovery time compared to LASIK eye surgery. Many LASEK patients will not fully recover functional vision for at least one to two weeks while their eye heals, which is similar to the healing time experienced in PRK eye surgery. LASIK patients often have good vision by the day after surgery.
  • LASEK eye surgery usually causes more pain and discomfort than LASIK. but possibly less pain than PRK surgery.
  • Patients need to wear a “bandage contact lens” for about three or four days after LASEK eye surgery to serve as a protective layer between your blinking eyelids and the treated eye surface, which is not necessary after LASIK.
  • Patients must use topical steroid drops for several weeks longer than after LASIK eye surgery.

What Are the Possible Side Effects of LASEK Eye Surgery?

Side effects may include:

  • Sensation of having a foreign object in your eye (lasts anywhere from one to four days)
  • Temporarily reduced vision under poorly lit conditions (up to 12 months)
  • Dry eyes. requiring the use of moisturizing drops (up to six months)
  • Hazy or cloudy vision (should disappear within six to nine months)

How Do I Know If LASEK Eye Surgery Is for Me?

LASEK eye surgery may be better for patients who have steep or very thin corneas, which make it difficult for the surgeon to make a proper LASIK flap. Since traumatic injury to the eye is more serious after LASIK than after LASEK eye surgery, patients who engage in professional or leisure activities that put their eyes at increased risk for injury (such as boxing) may be better suited for LASEK. LASEK (or PRK) eye surgery may be better for people with dry eye syndrome because in avoiding a deeper flap, the corneal nerves responsible for the tearing reflex are not cut.

How Do I Prepare for LASEK Laser Eye Surgery?

Before your LASEK laser eye surgery you will meet with an eye surgeon or a coordinator who will discuss what you should expect during and after the laser eye surgery. During this session your medical history will be evaluated and your eyes will be tested. Likely tests include measuring corneal thickness, refraction, corneal mapping, eye pressure, and pupil dilation. Once you have gone through your evaluation your surgeon will answer any questions you may have. Afterwards, you can schedule an appointment for the procedure.

If you wear rigid gas permeable contact lenses. you should not wear them for three weeks before your evaluation. Other types of contact lenses shouldn’t be worn for at least three days prior to the evaluation.

On the day of your LASEK laser eye surgery, eat a light meal before going to the doctor, and take all of your prescribed medications. Do not wear eye makeup or have any bulky accessories in your hair that will interfere with positioning your head under the laser. If you do not feel well that morning, call the doctor’s office to determine whether the procedure needs to be postponed.

What Happens During LASEK Eye Surgery?

LASEK eye surgery is done under a topical anesthesia placed directly into the eye. During the procedure, the top layer of cells, or epithelium, is treated with alcohol for about 30 seconds and detached from the underlying tissue. It is then lifted or rolled back so that the eye doctor can access the cornea tissue. The newly exposed tissue is treated with the same laser used in LASIK eye surgery and PRK. Then the top layer of cells is put into place.

This is in contrast to LASIK eye surgery, in which a laser or cutting device makes a flap in the cornea. LASEK eye surgery differs from PRK by preserving the top layer of cells, rather than scraping them away and waiting for them to grow back. This is believed to facilitate healing of the cornea with less discomfort than PRK.

What Happens After LASEK Eye Surgery?

After LASEK eye surgery, expectations are similar to what can be expected after LASIK. The flap created by LASEK eye surgery heals in about four to seven days, and the patient usually wears a special contact lens that acts as a bandage for up to four days after surgery. Patients also may experience irritation in their eye during the first day or two after LASEK eye surgery.

For patients who undergo the LASIK procedure, good vision is usually attained in a few days. However, for LASEK eye surgery this may take as long as a week.

You will revisit the doctor for an evaluation the day after LASEK eye surgery, and commonly one week and three months after surgery.

When to Call the Doctor About LASEK

If you have any questions after your LASEK eye surgery or if you experience pain, a sudden decrease in vision, red eye(s), or discharge from your eye(s), contact your eye doctor immediately.

Excalibur Data Recovery specializes in recovering data from almost any primary storage or backup device in use today. Whether the loss occurs at home, in the office or on the road, our expertise is ready to deal with any level of failure imaginable.

Since its incorporation in 1994, Excalibur has stayed current with industry standards, system requirements, various operating systems, applications and the actual hard drive technology itself. Over time, certain drives and models became obsolete. These devices were rapidly replaced with highly sought after, new and improved media, constantly changing with the demands of the user (both personal and business). Dependency created the demand for greater storage capacity. The consumer also expected enhanced performance while maintaining a reasonable price point they could easily afford. While hard drives today are mass produced overseas and considered affordable by all, replaceable, interchangeable and even disposable , they contain data as unique as the person that created it. While data can be reproduced in some cases, there are instances where it cannot. The need to understand the personal aspect behind data storage gave birth to the necessity and specialized field of data recovery. Excalibur emerged, became and remains an industry leader today.

Excalibur has, over these many years, developed an excellent reputation for data recovery service. We continue to support internal and external devices, desktop units, laptops, networks, mirrored drive sets, RAID arrays of every kind on all levels plus! How to Recover a Dead Hard Disk: 9 Steps (with Pictures) #hard #disk #drive #recovery

How to Recover a Dead Hard Disk

This wikiHow teaches you how diagnose and potentially recover a dead or dying hard drive (also known as a hard disk). Keep in mind that following these instructions does not guarantee that you’ll be able to recover your hard drive. Additionally, while opting for professional help is your best option, doing so will likely be expensive.

Steps Edit

Part One of Two:
Using Basic Troubleshooting Edit

Stop using your computer immediately. If your hard drive is still spinning but you’re encountering performance issues, it’s best to stop the hard drive from running as soon as possible. Once you’ve turned off your computer, don’t turn it on again until you can take it to a professional repair service.

  • If you’re worried about an external hard drive malfunctioning, you can simply unplug it from your computer.

Try plugging your hard drive into a different port or computer. If you can get your hard drive to work on a computer other than the one in which it currently resides, the problem isn’t necessarily with the hard drive itself–it’s with the cables or the ports on your computer.

  • If you’re using an external hard drive, this is as easy as unplugging it from your computer and plugging it into a different one. You’ll also want to try a replacement cable in case the old one is malfunctioning.
  • Internal hard drives present a more complicated problem. In order to diagnose your internal hard drive’s connection health, you’ll first need to remove the drive from your computer. After doing so, you can buy a hard drive docking station or a USB cable converter (Amazon sells both) that allows you to connect your external hard drive to another computer.
  • Before removing a hard drive, make sure your computer is unplugged and the battery is disconnected (if applicable).
  • Removing a hard drive is an incredibly difficult task on a Mac. If you intend to do so anyway, proceed with caution.
  • In rare cases, a hard drive failing to work on your specific computer (but working on others) can be symptomatic of a failing motherboard. If you can get your hard drive running on any computer other than your own, you should take your computer into a tech company somewhere to get it checked out.

Know the different components of a hard drive. Hard drives have three distinct components that are likely to cause a drive failure if they malfunction: [1]

  • PCB – The circuit board (usually on the bottom of your hard drive) controls most of your hard drive’s functions, as well as translating hard drive information into readable information. Circuit boards are typically green.
  • Platters – Thin disks that store data. Platters are responsible for most of the noise you hear when your hard drive starts up. Unless you’re a professional with access to a clean room and the necessary equipment, you won’t be able to fix your hard drive’s platters on your own.
  • Head Assembly – The head assembly is what reads the data off of the platters. Again, you won’t be able to repair the head assembly without professional-grade experience and equipment.

Assess the sounds your drive was making. Depending on what’s wrong with it, your hard drive will make certain sounds. Be sure to cross-reference your hard drive’s model with the sound it’s making to ensure an accurate diagnosis.

  • For example: if your hard drive was making a clicking noise, it most likely has a problem with the head assembly. [2]
  • Unfortunately, most problems that are diagnosable by the sound they cause will need professional care.

Refrain from using do-it-yourself quick fixes. These include things like freezing your hard drive or applying force to it. While some users may report success from these methods, performing a short-term fix on your hard drive is bound to make successful data recovery from a professional service even less likely than it already was.

  • Even if you can get a quick fix to work, the effects are usually short-term. Your hard drive will still end up dying. [3]

Part Two of Two:
Consulting a Repair Company Edit

Understand that hard drive recovery is a job for professionals. Due to the incredibly complex construction of a hard drive, you won’t be able to fix your own drive to the point of being able to retrieve the data stored on it unless you have an advanced background in electronics. For this reason, you should hand your hard drive over to a professional repair service.

  • Attempting to fix a dead hard drive will only lessen the chances of a professional being able to repair it.
  • Even replacing the PCB board is an advanced exercise that requires knowledge of how to solder circuitry and purchase exact part replacements.

Expect to pay a lot of money for the repair. True hard drive recovery entails the use of clean rooms, specialized equipment, and highly trained personnel. As such, you’ll likely spend over a thousand dollars getting your hard drive’s information back. [4]

Find the repair company that best suits your needs. You can usually find drive recovery services through your local tech outlet, but a couple of outstanding options include the following: [5]

  • Best Buy – Best Buy’s “Geek Squad” branch handles data recovery. You can expect to pay anywhere from $200 to a little under $1500, depending on the severity of the hard drive’s damage. [6]
  • Drive Savers – Drive Savers is a 24/7 customer service-based data recovery company with 30 years of experience. In addition to computer hard disk recovery, they can also recover smart phone and camera hard drives.

Pick a company and stick with it. Each time someone opens your hard drive and tries to fix it, the probability of it actually getting fixed decreases. This is because opening your hard drive renders it susceptible to things like dust, static electricity, and other environmental hazards. To minimize the risk, you should avoid asking for multiple consultations from different companies. To be sure of the company’s competence, inquire what kinds of data recovery tools they use. If they use PC3K or DeepSpar, that is a good sign.

Opiate Detox Centers – Rapid Opiate Withdrawal Treatment #opiate #detox #and #recovery

Your Guide to Opiate Detox Centers and Programs

An opiate generally refers to any narcotic that is synthesized from opium. Most of these activate opioid receptors in the brain, leading to feelings of euphoria and a lack of pain. They also induce physical changes within the brain. Those needing to get off opiates often turn to opiate detox as the starting point in their therapies.

“Part of treatment is diagnosing any underlying problems that may have contributed to your addictions and finding healthy ways of addressing them.” -Detox.net
Whether prescribed or not, many addicts start abusing opiates to help them deal with other health problems. Part of detox treatment is diagnosing any underlying problems that may have contributed to your addictions and finding healthy ways of addressing them. Call us at 800-653-6351 today to find out your options.

Opiates and Pain Management

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the following opiates are commonly abused:

However, many of these opiates are legitimately prescribed to manage pain. This creates a risk for patients in need of serious pain relief. You may feel frightened of stopping pain medication, even if you’ve realized you’ve developed a problem.

Tools for Opiate Detox and Withdrawal

Today’s method of opiate detox is much gentler than in the past. Detoxification occurs when the drug you have become dependent on fully leaves your body. During this time, your body reacts to a lack of opiate stimulation. The U.S. National Library of Medicine lists the following opiate withdrawal symptoms:

  • Agitation
  • Irritability
  • Anxiety
  • Sweating
  • Goosebumps
  • Upset Stomach
  • Vomiting
  • Restlessness
  • Insomnia

These symptoms usually begin within 12 hours from the last time you use the substance you’re addicted to. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, there are three medications effective in alleviating withdrawal symptoms. Buprenorphine is the latest one developed. It stimulates the same receptions as opiates without creating the rush of getting high. In this way, you fight off your cravings without the risk of getting addicted to a new drug. Naltrexone was developed in the 1980s as a way to help manage heroin addiction without dependence. Finally, methadone is an opioid-based medication that has long been used in fighting opiate addiction. Since the 1960s, it has been instrumental in helping addicts breaking away from drugs like morphine and heroin.

Rapid Detox Programs

Advancements in medicine and addiction research have spawned a new type of treatment. Rapid detox is a process for managing early withdrawal symptoms. Patients are placed under sedation for several hours at a time while medications like buprenorphine are administered. These programs allow patients to avoid the discomfort of withdrawal symptoms as their bodies heal. However, these treatments cost substantially more, and their long-term effectiveness is about the same as standard detox.

After the Initial Treatment

Detox services often come in addition to longer-term treatment options to ensure you stay clean. All detox programs require follow-up to be effective. Inpatient programs can last from one to several months. They typically include social skill building and support through counseling programs, as well as comprehensive medical care to ensure you have no reason to return to drugs. Paired with community groups offering peer support, today’s care programs offer ample resources and opportunities for people who want to change their lives.
