SaaS – Software As A Service – Free Gartner Research #saas #customer #service, #it #glossary

Gartner defines software as a service (SaaS ) as software that is owned, delivered and managed remotely by one or more providers. The provider delivers software based on one set of common code and data definitions that is consumed in a one-to-many model by all contracted customers at anytime on a pay-for-use basis or as a subscription based on use metrics.

Free Gartner Research. Information 2020 Beyond Big Data

The cloud model for business applications is having more varied and more far-reaching effects on organizations than was originally foreseen. This Gartner Special Report highlights new and recent research to guide CIOs and applications leaders in adapting their IT strategy to this business reality.

SaaS business applications offer different approaches to modification than on-premises solutions, requiring application managers to adapt their customization strategy. Selecting the right application and minimizing modifications becomes more important in the cloud.

Moving IT services to Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS) cloud providers profoundly affects the roles and responsibilities of IT. IT Infrastructure Professionals (ITIPs) and managers must think about their roles, hone new skills and build a strategy for staying relevant in the forthcoming IT landscape.

Cloud hosted applications need data protection similar to on-premises data. Although IaaS/SaaS providers (AWS, Azure, Office 365) offer excellent data resiliency, most do not offer native backup. This webinar helps you build a strategy for the protection and recovery of cloud applications and data.

What our customers say

“We value the partnership we have developed with Aljex over the past 6 years as our TMS provider. Over that time we have grown from 5 users to 200 on the system and support 25+ EDI partner,s covering a broad portfolio of services industries. We have given Aljex many challenges to meet and without faltering they have risen to the occasion every time. From warehousing to significant distribution projects and everything in between, the system has proven reliable and scalable. Our customers rank our information delivery as one of our leading strengths and that is a direct result of what we have accomplished with Aljex. We look forward to our continued and mutual success for many years to come.”

Kathi C. Laughman, Director – Business System & Solutions Crane Freight & Cartage – Crane Solutions LLC

“…..YOU ( as in Robyn ) have been helpful, VERY helpful…whereas I sometimes get more formal/cold/hard to figure replies back from other support teams in other companies. Your reply was what support SHOULD be, it breeds good relations and customer service. It’s attitudes like yours that create success and goodwill. ”

Jim P Taylor Truckline (Northfield, MN)

“Aljex is imminently scalable, and our business is the proof of that. In just over 2yrs we’ve been able to grow our business from 5 employees to almost 45, without missing a beat or having any systems issues whatsoever… the reason I still work with Aljex is due to the simplicity and adaptability of the systems.”

IT Service Management (ITSM) – SaaS vs #saas #itsm

Techport Thirteen Blog

Posted by Rob Swingle I September 10, 12

Cloud, clouder, and cloudest. Service providers, like HP. are really starting to market their cloud services more agressively, as communication bandwidth and load balancing architectures have advanced to the point where they can host more, users can work faster over the WAN, and service owners can rely on the cloud-base services to meet uptime SLA’s. As recently as two years ago, this was not possible.

I do my best to try to at least keep up with the trending products and services that can add true value to the common user. The cloud concept of “[X] as a Service” seems to be one of those things worth following.

In the last six months, inside of Techport Thirteen, we have been working hard to understand the “as a Service” world, especially as it relates to the IT Service Management Tools Industry. If you missed our recent article on HP’s Software as a Service (SaaS) offering. you should definitely read it as background knowledge.

We have also started to dig more in to the following offerings:

  • Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

The best explanation we have found of the difference between SaaS, PaaS and IaaS is the following diagram (found by Dedra Cenciarelli. Techport Thirteen, Senior Service Consultant, HP Projects):

As a next step, we are now learning about sub-offerings within these parent offerings:

  • Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS)
  • Application Platform as a Service (aPaaS)

Ben Vargas, Director of Delivery for our HP Projects Division, came across an excellent article that breaks most of these concepts down. Here are some highlights:

  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): A virtualized environment on which systems can be deployed. This provides the underlying computing resources for the deployment of enterprise systems.
  • Platform as a Service (PaaS): Application infrastructure, both for the development of single applications and integration between multiple applications. The middleware that enables the development of advanced applications.
  • Software as a Service (SaaS): Application software. This provides the user-facing applications that enable business.
  • Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS): iPaaS is the next generation integration platform for integrating cloud applications with one another and with on-premise and legacy applications.

I encourage you to read the article in full, as we at Techport expect to work more with cloud service providers in the future.

I asked Ben his thoughts on how this will effect the ITSM application services industry, and he thinks, “. that the SaaS, IaaS and PaaS concepts will appeal to specific clients, while others will still prefer to host and manage their own architecture, especially those with strict security requirements (financial institutions, healthcare firms, etc.). A client would need to have one of the major cloud offerings in place before moving on to the more specific iPaaS and aPaaS concepts. There is definitely a business market for cloud service offerings, but there will always be room for cloud and non-cloud offerings to coexist in the market.”

BYOD Security Software

BYOD promises unprecedented new streams of workforce productivity in the present age of cloud computing and Consumerization of IT. The increasingly mobile workforce in today’s enterprise needs to take advantage of the latest mobile technologies that redefine how employees collaborate, interact, learn and perform. By eliminating the cost of purchasing latest mobile gadgets and allowing employees to use devices of their choice, organizations can ensure a satisfied mobile workforce using the technology that works best to deliver superior productivity.

This flexibility comes at a cost for organizations that fail to enforce adequate BYOD management and security policies, and ultimately risk cyber-attacks. Innovative new mobile device management solutions empower organizations with the capabilities they need to unleash the power of enterprise mobility while addressing the rising BYOD security and management challenges.

The Codeproof enterprise mobility platform works as a centralized SaaS console offering a range of mobility management features, including:

MDM Enrollment

This is the first step of MDM enablement in BYOD devices using either Agent-based or Agent-less profile installation. Once the device is configured with MDM, IT Administrators can remotely control corporate data and network access in enrolled devices.

Owners Privacy

In the Codeproof console, IT Administrators can categorize BYOD devices and enforce different sets of corporate policies on different device groups. When a BYOD device is lost or stolen, IT Administrators can wipe selective data such as WiFi configurations, emails, business apps and other information critical to the organization’s security.

Configuring WiFi, Email and VPN

Before BYOD users can access corporate resources, make sure that their device is authorized to access the corporate network through WiFi, Email or VPN access points. IT administrators can remotely push corporate WiFi access privileges to devices and change VPN and Email configurations.

Terminating Corporate Data Access

When BYOD users terminate their jobs, IT administrators can remotely delete their business emails and WiFi profile configurations, and uninstall the apps deployed using the MDM platform. Wiping the entire device data is not required and the device will still retain the user’s personal data, apps, contacts, photos and other information.

The enterprise mobility management is now simplified!

The comprehensive SaaS enterprise mobility management solution is offered on an affordable, no-obligation subscription-basis pricing model.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

Enjoy 24/7/365 availability, reliability, optimal speed and performance of the service with 99.96% average uptime. SaaS is hosted on the vast ISL Online Cloud Network, which is based on cloud computing technologies and connects servers from more than 50 data centres worldwide. It is a perfect combination of ease of use and excellent performance. The only thing you need to start using it is a valid account.

Just enter your username and password to host a session on our network of servers.

Server License

Meet strict security requirements, plus enjoy privacy and full independence by installing ISL Online on your own server(s). All remote connections are then established through the server(s) in your company, keeping all data such as user information or session history in a closed corporate environment. It is easy to add external authentication through RADIUS, Microsoft Active Directory, Novell eDirectory and OpenLDAP; what’s more, it also offers extensive user management, software customisation and integration options. It’s a snap to set up and maintain, though it requires an administrator.

In order to install and configure the ISL Online Server License properly, you should be familiar with network and server administration. You need to install the remote desktop server application named ISL Conference Proxy on a server (Windows or Linux) in your company and open a few ports in your firewall.

To set up your own ISL Online remote desktop server you need to have:

  1. Windows or Linux server (recommended not to share IIS or Apache server)
ISL Conference Proxy – Server Requirements
  2. Free public IP on your router
  3. Administrator to install the software and configure the firewall

Private Cloud

Cloud computing benefits combined in the ISL Online Private Cloud bring you the best remote desktop and web conferencing services. Particularly larger organisations using the Server License might consider setting up several servers and connecting them into a corporate Internet communications network, a Private Cloud. Corporate Private Cloud Network includes at least two ISL Conference Proxy (ICP) installations and is fully scalable. More ICP servers can be added to the Private Cloud network anytime in order to expand the capacity of the system (double, triple etc.).

ISL Conference Proxy servers may be installed in a single data centre or several company’s data centres across the country or worldwide. You may decide to host the Private Cloud on your own servers or just ask us to provide you with the pre-installed and pre-configured Private Boxes.
