Raffles Singapore

The year was 1887 when the doors to the Raffles Hotel Singapore first opened. Since then, this luxury five star hotel in Singapore has become an icon that epitomises the romance of the Far East – an intoxicating blend of luxury, history and colonial design.

Situated in the heart of the business and civic district, Raffles Singapore is a veritable oasis in the city. Its classic colonial architecture has been perfectly preserved and provides a stark but lively contrast against its modern-skyscraper neighbours.

Through the decades, liveried Sikh doormen have welcomed some of the most famous personalities, from writers to celebrities, politicians and members of royalty, such as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

No visit to Singapore is complete without a stay at this iconic all-suite luxury Singapore hotel. Choose to check in to one of the six categories of suites available. Although situated in different parts of the hotel, the view will always be of lush tropical gardens best enjoyed in the comfort of the veranda. Each suite features period furnishings, lofty 14-foot ceilings and modern conveniences expected of a 21st-century hotel. Raffles butlers, legendary for their charming and graceful service are available to fulfil requests both ordinary and extraordinary.

From local favourites to English classics and even a North Indian curry buffet, the culinary spread at Raffles Singapore is extensive and enticing. Make a reservation at the 14 restaurants and bars at our hotel, where each offers a unique menu prepared using only the freshest of ingredients. Among the most well-loved include the fine dining establishment Raffles Grill; Long Bar, where the famous Singapore Sling was created; and Writers Bar, a tribute to the novelists and travel writers, who have become part of the hotel’s legend.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

It was the start of our Singapore-Malaysia-Thailand tour and this was the first hotel we were taken to. we got such a shock that for the rest of the tour our biggest worry became the hotel rooms. Very badly maintained property, worn out carpets and towels, rude and unhelpful reception which is always asking for additional money, small stinking rooms. the only saving grace was jovial restaurant staff at breakfast. We tried to get as tired during the day as possible so that we could go and sleep.

GlobalPremiumHotels, Guest Relations Manager at Fragrance Hotel – Selegie, responded to this review

Fragrance Hotel – Bugis (Singapore) – 2016 Hotel Reviews #site #hotel

#fragrance hotel

The Fragrance Hotel – Bugis is in a very convenient location as it’s near the MRT, a 7/11, shopping (Bugis Junction, Bugis +, Suntec City) and walking distance to the river.

I paid a little bit more to have a Deluxe Room with a window and slightly larger. The view from the 4th floor was OK – nothing special, mainly a tree. It may have been larger than the Superior Room, but it was still very small. OK for a single traveler, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a couple.

Staff were friendly, but as I didn’t require any help, interactions were brief and only at check in and check out. My room was kept clean and bed made daily by housekeeping staff.

A few cons about Fragrance Hotel – Bugis:

The bed: a Queen-sized bed, but it seemed short (even for me at 173 cm) – again not recommended for a couple. The mattress was quite hard. I realized on my 3rd night only that the mattress is covered in leather /vinyl with a thin overlay and then a sheet. Has anyone else come across a mattress like this before? Not I.

The air-conditioning: even setting the air-con at the hotel-recommended 23-24 degrees I felt really cold. Plus it blows onto the bed. I found that having it at 27 was the most comfortable setting. Or on cold for an hour before bed and then switched off for sleep.

The bathroom: while the shower was hot (after you switched on the hot water button inside the hotel room door with the light switches) and had good water pressure, there is no shower cubicle or recess – basically the whole bathroom / toilet is the shower. This meant that the whole floor and toilet seat got soaked with every shower. I used the tiny bathmat and my used towel to dry the floor after my evening shower so that I wouldn’t have a wet floor to tread through to use the toilet in the morning.

Wi-fi: in room 403 the wi-fi was very weak and I often had problems connecting or with it dropping out mid-use. I was also a little bit confused about whether or not the wi-fi was free as when I connected, I had to chose an option: either S$5 for 2 hours or S$10 for 24 hours. I was expecting to have to pay about S$50 at check out but wasn’t asked to.

Accommodation in Singapore isn’t the best value for money – you can’t compare it with other Asian countries like Bali, Thailand, Vietnam or even Malaysia which can be much cheaper.

All-in-all, the Fragrance Hotel – Bugis offers you small, clean rooms in a convenient location at a reasonable price.

Spent five nights in the Orchard Hotel and enjoyed every night of it. Maybe the nice little upgrade in room helped, but even ignoring that, this hotel delivers all you require. Room was excellent – King Size Signature Club with no issues at all. I initially thought eh Club Floor lounge was a little small, but it never seemed to. More

Really well looked after on the whole, dated yes but plenty of character, would definitely stay on our next trip. We had a suite, very spacious and comfortable, the club room is a must even if you pay the extra, drinking out in Singapore is not cheap, so 6 till 8 every night beer, wine and about 5 premium spirit,s with mixers as much as you like and free food is a bargain. We booked trough happy rooms, got a great deal on the room, hotel location top end of Orchard road, new ar all the shops and Jamie Oliver’s restaurant, which was in fact w e think very reasonable and fantastic food.

Checked in ok, upon arriving in our room found it quite dated and old looking after being advised by the hotel that it was the Newer Wing .
The laminated wood.

Checked in ok, upon arriving in our room found it quite dated and old looking after being advised by the hotel that it was the Newer Wing .
The laminated wood floor was starting to lift in places and the headboard had seen better days.
There was a foul smell coming up from the drains every time water went down the drain which made me gag a couple of time we should have complained but didn’t bother.
Would have expected a much nicer club room for what you pay. Some days we had a turn down service some we didn’t so never got resupplied with items we needed also no water.
Luckily we got that from the club lounge if needed. Celebrated our anniversary and the hotel left us a nice cake and bottle of wine in our room which was very nice.

If we stayed here again would not stay in the Claymore wing as is very dated, I did hear the other wing is much nicer. Pool area was nice and quiet so you could chill out, the gym was good with functioning equipment ( but someday’s had no water in the water cooler)

The staff in the club where absolutely fantastic:
Special mention to Daisy, Elle, Mark, Humairah and any others I may have missed, these staff are an asset to your hotel and should be looked after they would be the main reason we would come back they also let us stay in the club room lounge on the check out day as we had a late flight back to Australia.

The only thing with the club lounge is very limited selection at Breakfast no Muesli just two standard juices Orange and apple and not much variety each day. But is you wanted you could eat enough here without buying any food.

The hotel itself is in a good spot close to everything with a Cold store below, ate most meals at the ION basement food hall and the one under the marriot hotel which both where cheap and great.

I would only stay here again due to the Club room staff as they all where so lovely and if we where upgraded to the other wing as the Claymore wing has seen better days and shouldn’t really be used for club rooms.

Very close to mrt station little india. Good stay Indian restaurants are all near by everything close. Must visit again. If you are single this is a good hotel and place to. Stay wholesaler stores are nearby.

Very good hotel at this price. I would prefer to stay this hotel of neat and clean. We enjoyed very much in this hotel, moreover hotel provide the WiFi service 24 hours which was helpful for us. Are Early good.

Excellent facilities & good atmosphere to stay with family. It’s very safe & secure. All around location are good & very calm. Better place to relaxation after finishing the outward attractions in Singapore. Feels like a home stay. I prefer this hotel only for the name “RAMADA”.

It is a new and clean hotel with great breakfast and big beds. Though room size is small. Amazing front desk service. Only negative point would be its location as it is slightly from the MRT and if u are not on a guided tour this could cause delay in your schedules. They provide complimentary shuttle to MRT but you have to plan it in advance and book yourself a place in the shuttle beforehand. There is a very clean swimming pool and gym too. Otherwise extremely valuable for the money you pay. Very very good.

Exploring City Center

Singapore’s city centre, which is primarily comprised of the area known as the Downtown Core, is the economic and commercial hearth of this thriving city-state. The area encompasses much of the Singapore River Mouth, and includes many significant sites like Raffles Place, key government structures and a host of iconic skyscraper buildings. Intriguing elements of the old harbour are also still on show near the mouth of the Singapore River.

This area is regarded as the heart of the city-state, so tourism is big business here. As a result, visitors will find a host of luxurious, mid-range and inexpensive accommodation options to choose from. The precincts around Chinatown . the riverfront quays and Marina Bay are home to fantastic shopping, dining and entertainment venues, so visitors can always find something to do.

Sights nearby

The City Centre offers many exciting attractions for a fun-filled holiday. Luckily for tourists, there are dozens of comfortable hotels that cater for a range of tastes and needs, located in the immediate area.

Regarded as Singapore’s most popular shopping strip, Orchard Road is located in the northern reaches of the downtown area. This two-kilometre boulevard is a massive tourist attraction, boasting plenty of shopping malls and pedestrian shopping arcades, including the likes of Plaza Singapura, Orchard Central, the huge Ngee Ann City shopping complex and the upscale ION Orchard. Fantastic restaurants and night life are found here too, making it a popular place to explore day and night.

National Museum of Singapore

This interesting museum, found inside a Neo-Palladian-styled structure, has been in operation since 1849. Today, its intriguing blend of modern and traditional architecture welcomes thousands of visitors each week, who come to explore the fascinating artefacts on display. Renowned sculptures and portraits, including creations from William Farquhar, and historical items, like the Singapore Stone, await visitors. The museum sits adjacent to Fort Canning Park, along Stamford Road.

Located along the banks of the Singapore River, just upstream from Marina Bay, is Boat Quay. This site, which was formerly Singapore’s busiest port, is now a vibrant precinct of cafés, restaurants, and nightlife. It is situated close to Clarke Quay, so getting here is never an issue, as an MRT station rests only metres away. Visiting this area for a weekend lunch is recommended, although most tourists and locals haunt this place in the evenings, when the atmosphere begins to liven up.

Eating and drinking and shopping nearby

There are so many places to shop in the City Centre of Singapore. Orchard Road is the main haven for shopaholics, yet there are several other interesting places to explore, including Suntec City . Raffles City . Millenia Walk and Central Clarke Quay. Most of these complexes have an excellent report when it comes to dining too, but the quays along Singapore River (Robertson, Clarke and Boat) boast an unrivalled list of restaurants and cafés. The Chinatown area is also home to several hawker venues and traditional restaurants worth checking out. If visitors want an unprecedented dining or socialising experience, they should visit one of the luxurious downtown hotels, such as Swissotel The Stamford, Singapore or Peninsula Excelsior Hotel.

Public transport

There are several public transport options that provide access to and from Singapore’s central area. Both Raffles Place and Clarke Quay have MRT stations, while Dhoby Ghaut and City Hall stations are the most convenient gateways into the northern reaches of the City Centre. There are light rail connections too, and the bus network throughout the downtown core is not only inexpensive, but relatively convenient. Of course, tourists can also opt for river cruises to explore Marina Bay and the Singapore River.

Singapore Executive and Operating Committees provide fresh fruit juice at Dover Park Hospice

October 2014 │ Singapore

On October 4, members from Deutsche Bank Singapore’s Executive and Operating Committees volunteered their time to brighten up an otherwise wet and dreary Saturday for Dover Park Hospice patients, families and staff.

The mission at hand was a simple one: Deutsche Bank volunteers would provide to the patients made-to-order fresh fruit juices along with soft Swiss Rolls and some very sunny smiles.

The visit started with a short briefing by the CEO of Dover Park Hospice, Dr. Stella Wee, telling the volunteers more about the hospice and good work that it does. This was followed by a frenzy of juicing activity. The volunteers walked the wards, accompanied by a small medical team, taking juice orders and chatting to patients while group of four Deutsche Bank volunteers got their hands (or more accurately, rubber gloves) dirty operating fruit juicers to meet the constant demand for fresh juices.

While all of the patients are terminally ill, the majority with a life expectancy of less than three months, many were still able to enjoy the healthy and tasty addition to their late morning meal. What touched the hearts of all the volunteers were the tears of one patient, moved by the volunteers’ companionship on the day, which coincidentally was his birthday.

All too quickly, the ward rounds were over, and the fruit and cake supplies depleted. As the volunteers said their goodbyes and went back to their own lives, they each took away some small comfort that they might just have made a little difference to someone else’s day, brought a smile, or lent some support and companionship, on a wet and grey morning. The fruit juices were only a simple token, but to many of the hospice’s patients and families, it was a tiny but important reminder that they were not alone.

Stayed in 2 of the apartments in Lucky Plaza while in Singapore and both were nice and clean. Big rooms too.

Mika from Budget Hotel was really helpful. He was just one phone call away when we needed help. He was brilliant.

The apartments more than met our expectations. All the basic things were provided and made our stay really pleasant. The location was really convenient as it is close to shops, restaurants and MRT. We initially stayed in the 18th floor and moved to the 28th floor. The views in the evening on the 28th floor was amazing.

Singapore is definitely a place I would want to go back to and will stay in Lucky Plaza again.

komedol (38 reviews)

Went to stay at one of the apartment on 6-9 January 2016 with our extended family. Location is perfect for us, located right in the middle of bustling Orchard Road where there are plenty of shopping malls, and MRT station (Orchard) is within 5 minutes walk. The lift/elevator to the apartment block located on the 1st floor (not the same with the mall elevator). So those carrying suitcases/strollers can use the side entrance (instead of the main entrance) to use the wheelchair lane. Right in front of the mall you have a convenience store (7-eleven), McDonalds, and a pizza kiosk. But I noticed that at night (around 11PM), on the ground floor or the 1st floor, provocatively-dressed women were seen and wandering about.

We got a newly renovated apartment on the 24th floor. The apartment is brightly lit and has two bedrooms, each with two queen size beds and is equipped with a microwave, a hot water dispenser, a gas stove, a rice cooker, and cooking eating utensils. This is very useful for us so we can prepare our own food. The main bathroom has a bathtub + a shower + a toilet; the small bathroom only has a shower + a toilet. The apartment also has a washing machine and its detergent. In the living room, a flat-screen TV (perhaps 32 screen size) is there but no cable TV. A split air conditioning is available in each bedroom in the living room. And the free Wi-fi access was splendid (fast speed and stable connection).

Overall I’d recommend this place for those looking for budget stay in the main area of Singapore’s shopping malls and within easy access to an MRT station.

More

Explore Singapore

Singapore Hotels A cultural melting-pot at a global crossroads, Singapore is not easily defined, and travellers have long breezed through without really getting to know it. It’s a country, a city, and a self-contained island, and it has blossomed into one of the most eclectic destinations on earth. Down on the waterfront, futuristic architecture creates a sleekly urban skyline, yet everywhere the presence of the jungle can be felt. It may have a pristine sheen, but underneath, this Lion City roars. Things to see Singapore is bursting with attractions, from the refined splendour of the Colonial District to the high-octane entertainment of Sentosa Island. Siloso Beach on Sentosa is a great place to go with the kids – the Underwater Wold and Dolphin Lagoon allows you to splash about with dolphins and shake hands with seals. Nearby, Universal Studios Singapore is a thrilling, cinematic theme park, with whole worlds created from mind-boggling technology, and rides to make your bones shake. There’s also a multitude of free things to do in Singapore, such as a visit to the National Museum of Singapore. Its wealth of historical exhibits and fun activities for children will keep everyone happy for hours. Beyond the centre, urbanity combines with wild jungle to create exotic city parks. The Henderson Waves Bridge takes weekend strolls to new heights – this twisting bridge, made of thousands of curved wooden slats, sails above the treetops. Hotels in Singapore Singapore may be known for the legendary Raffles Hotel and its world-class modern luxury, but this city is budget-savvy too. The cheap hotels in Singapore still offer all the modern conveniences you’d expect, like free WiFi and air conditioning, and there are numerous design-conscious boutique hotels at great value for money. Some have studio apartments which are ideal for family stays. If you’re travelling on a shoestring, there are plenty of quirky backpacker hostels to choose from, offering a great social atmosphere, with games rooms or common areas, and that all-important free breakfast. Many offer private rooms as well as dorms. Where to stay If you’re looking for a cheap Singapore hotel close to the centre, then Chinatown is a great option. Just north of the downtown core, it’s one of Singapore’s most authentic and interesting districts. Among the streets full of tempting Chinese restaurants and buzzing markets, boutique hotels are popping up, and offering great value for money compared to the downtown core. The major backpacker area is located northeast of the centre in Little India. There are dozens of hostels and guesthouses here, and filled as it is with colour, spice, and glittering temples, it definitely is a taste of India. How to get to Singapore Singapore is a global hub, with hundreds of flights touching down from all over the world every day. There are plenty of cheap flights to Singapore, with the budget airlines mainly landing at Terminal 2. Once at the airport, travel around Singapore is made easy with the metro system, which has a line running from the airport to the city centre. Buses also provide an economical and frequent service between the airport and downtown. It’s worth getting a prepaid metro card to make your journeys around Singapore cheaper and easier. Taxis are metered, and smaller, economy cars offer a cheaper rate.

    Singapore Travel Course

    Cheap Accommodation in Singapore

If it’s cheap Singapore accommodation you’re looking for, then our site is pretty much your best asset. Find great deals while exploring this island with a remarkable range of sights and attractions. For an island no bigger than some lakes in the world, Singapore provides visitors with opportunities for sightseeing, partying, comfortable accommodation and most importantly, eating. The experiences you will want to enjoy in this Garden City include having family fun at the beaches and resorts, exploring the culture and history behind old structures and intensive retail therapy in some of the most concentrated shopping hotspots available.

    Things to see

Visitors with an interest in diverse cultures should explore the various religious sites and neighborhoods that cater to various races. The Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery near Ang Mo Kio, the colourful Sri Mariamman Hindu temple in Chinatown and the stately Masjid Sultan in Arab street are just some of the religious sites worth visiting. As you explore further, you will find several religions and races can be found in respectable numbers, all co-existing on a tiny island. Shoppers looking for a challenge will be surprised at the number of retail hotspots in Singapore. The Mecca of shopping is found in Orchard Road . where shopping malls compete with one another by providing wide varieties of clothing brands, not to mention several choices of restaurants serving all sorts of cuisines.

    Hotels in Singapore

The hotel scene here is massive, so cheap Singapore hotels can be easily found, especially on our site. There are budget hotels located just outside central Singapore but given the small land area, and excellent public transport, one never has to worry about getting around. There are also mid-range and boutique hotels closer to town, providing convenience without the hefty bills. The hotels here are mainly well-equipped with decadent spas and lavish amenities that keep guests well and truly pampered.

    Where to stay

The central region of Singapore a great location if you are looking for the ultimate definition of accessibility. Places like Orchard Road and City Hall provide hotels that are conveniently close to rows of pubs, clubs and eateries that service a staggering array of local cuisines, including Peranakan, Chinese, Malay and Indian, each with their own unique dishes. Those looking for a more resort feel and adventure atmosphere can look to Sentosa, an island that has been made over completely for visitors. Here you can find theme parks, adventure parks and an integrated resort with a casino and the world’s largest aquarium, boasting a magnificent viewing panel that families and couples can enjoy for hours on end.

    How to get to Singapore

Changi International Airport (SIN) is served by several international airlines. Those coming in by car can cross the border between Malaysia and Singapore, though it can get very congested during peak hours. Getting into the city areas can be done via train or MRT, which provides excellent access to all the four corners of the island.

Fragrance Hotel – Bugis (Singapore) – Hotel reviews, photos, rates #the #royal

    #fragrance hotel

    #
