    The Blackford Centre: About us #study #courses #online, #home #study #certification #correspondence

    Distance Learning Courses

Our online courses can give you a new career

At the Blackford Centre you can study for a new career – in fields that are exciting and in demand.

What’s more, our courses let you study where and when you want.

There are no exams: we use positive assessment instead.

And you don’t ever have to show up and be ‘stuck’ in a musty classroom to attend evening classes.

Since it’s distance education, everything is at your convenience.

Plus, you get a valuable qualification that reflects your new knowledge.

Courses like this one can give you a whole new career and way of life. We’ll give you the confidence to start the new career you’ve been dreaming of.

And we specialize in courses that let you start your own business.

To find out more, click the subject on the left that captures your interest.

    Learn from the experts

Each of our separate divisions has its own specialized, expert tutors.

And we only employ tutors who are actively working in their field and who want to spread their knowledge.

    Like this page?
    Tell your friends

That way, you don’t get armchair experts or professional academics who lack experience of the real world.

Plus, we’re more practical than many organizations. So you’ll find our courses contain more detailed information and instructions about how to run your own business.

    Study online

When you study one of our courses you’ll access all of the materials online. So you won’t have to wait for the course to arrive.

Once, you’ve enrolled we’ll provide you with login details and the name of your tutor. And as soon as you have these details you can log straight into the system and get started on the course.

    Your tutor

As we’ve said, you’ll have your own personal tutor. Research shows you’re more likely to succeed in this interactive, customized way, compared with mere self-study or book learning.

    Our courses are fun

Some organizations make their courses stuffy and tedious. We hate that. Our materials are written in a light-hearted way, so you’ll absorb the serious information while enjoying yourself.

That means you’re more likely to complete your course, and get the qualification.

    We’re recognized

As you’ll see from the logos on the top right of this page, we’re accredited by many independent certification organizations. That means your qualification has real worth in the eyes of other people.

    Payment is simple

You can pay online using our secure SSL server. In fact, we never see your credit card details, because they get passed straight to the bank without us even glancing at them.

But we know it’s quite a big website (we have lots to talk about). So If you can’t find the online payment page, let us know and we’ll tell you how to locate it.

    Take the next step

Want to learn more? Simply click on the topics at the top of the page.

And if you have any questions, please get in touch.

Nothing will ever be the same, personally or professionally, if correctly trained as a hospice volunteer

Volunteering in hospice is a choice that creates rewards for patients and families. The ultimate surprise is the growth a volunteer develops from learning more about themselves, learning to communicate in ways that increase appreciation for life as daily situations take on a holistic perspective.

Hospice volunteer training can be done conveniently at home or wherever there is access to a computer.

The hospice volunteer program is designed to help strengthen the understanding of hospice for volunteers and those seeking more information on caring for a loved one with a terminal illness.

Training is $10 for the full hospice volunteer training program and can be accessed at www.volunteertrainingonline.com/courses

*Note: On site hospice training programs are not replaced by this course. The training addresses the core concepts that Medicare Conditions of Participation require for hospice volunteer services. After completion of training, the student must complete agency specific protocols to volunteer with hospice. For example, background check, required health screening and agency policy and procedures.

Hospice agencies can request a service agreement to have their own personalized site. The agency can train their own volunteers and be billed monthly for $10 per volunteer and a low $10 monthly site fee. The site fee includes set up of a unique site, technical support, and certificates for graduating volunteers with the hospice agency name on the certificate. The service agreement may be accessed here.

    Guide to an Online Automotive Education #online #automotive #training, #online #automotive #schools,

Guide to an Online Automotive Education

    by Beau Johnson

The automotive industry is becoming more technologically-advanced every day. It is certainly a great advantage for mechanics-to-be to seek higher education in the automotive field, and also to continue that education to stay on the cutting edge of the trade. Now, automotive enthusiasts have the opportunity to explore their passion through online degree programs in car-care fields.

    How Online Automotive Programs Work

Students enrolled in online automotive programs will typically have all necessary materials available to them on the Internet and through downloads. Additional materials may be mailed out for the student to have a means of studying independent of the Internet, if necessary. If students have questions, they can contact their instructor through e-mail or make an educational support phone call. Examinations are completed online and students move forward once they’ve completed their chapter testing.

Certification and continuing education programs are also available online for working mechanics, auto body professionals, and automotive instructors.

“The big advantage of online education is the convenience of not having to physically go to a location,” said Kersten. “There are a number of organizations that provide online training. We do allow it to count towards our instructors’ annual training, and ASE-certified programs helps technicians keep up with technology changes within the industry.”

ASE certification is good for a five-year period, and then must be earned through testing again. See the ASE Test Preparation page for informationa on online test preparation.

    Online Automotive Schools

The following are some of the options available to automotive students and professionals for online study:

    • PCDI – offers an online auto mechanic program.
    • Penn Foster Career School – offers career diplomas for auto body repair, auto detailing, auto repair technician, diesel mechanics, small engine repair, and motorcycle repair technician.
    • I-CAR – an ASE-certified training provider offering online training and a virtual classroom.
    • The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) – facilitates automotive information exchange through continuing education programs.
    • Bergwall – offers a wide array of online courses, test preparation, and classes pertaining to the automotive industry and ASE certification.
    • Autoshop 101 – offers several free online tutorials, online practice tests and technical articles.

Security Assessment, VAPT, ECSA Training in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Gurgaon,

A penetration test is done to evaluate the security of a computer system or network by simulating an attack by a malicious user / hacker. The process involves active exploitation of security vulnerabilities that may be present due to poor or improper system configuration, known and / or unknown hardware or software flaws, or operational weaknesses in process or design.

This analysis is carried out from the position of a potential attacker, to determine feasibility of an attack and the resulting business impact of a successful exploit. Usually this is presented with recommendations for mitigation or a technical solution.

    About this workshop

This workshop gives an in-depth perspective of penetration testing approach and methodology that covers all modern infrastructure, operating systems and application environments.

Computer Addiction – Resources – Student Counseling Center – UT Dallas #addiction

    Computer Addiction

Some people develop bad habits with their computer use that may cause significant problems in their lives. The types of behavior and negative consequences are similar to those of known addictive disorders, so the term computer or Internet addiction has come into use.

While anyone who uses a computer could be vulnerable, those people who are lonely, shy, easily bored or suffering from another addiction or impulse control disorder are especially vulnerable to computer addiction.

Computer addiction can result from people using it repeatedly as their main stress reliever instead of having a variety of ways to cope with negative events and feelings. Other misuses may include procrastination from undesirable responsibilities, distraction from being upset and attempts to meet needs for companionship and belonging.

While discussions are ongoing about whether excessive use of the computer/Internet is an addiction, the potential problematic behaviors and effects on users seem to be clear.

    Signs of Problematic Computer Use

A person who is addicted to the computer is likely to have several of the experiences and feelings listed below:

    • Mixed feelings of well-being and guilt while at the computer.
    • Unsuccessful efforts to quit or limit computer use.
    • Losing track of time while on the computer.
    • Neglecting friends, family and/or responsibilities in order to be online.
    • Lying about time spent on the computer/activities while online.
    • Feeling anxious, depressed or irritable when computer time is shortened or interrupted.
    • Using the computer repeatedly as an outlet when sad, upset or for sexual gratification.
    • Problems in school/work as a result of time spent and the type of activities accessed on the computer.
    • When not on the computer, frequent thoughts and anticipation of using it again.

Being addicted to the computer also may cause physical discomfort, including:

    • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (pain, numbness and burning in the hands that can radiate up the wrists, elbows and shoulders).
    • Dry eyes or strained vision.
    • Back and neck aches.
    • Severe headaches.
    • Sleep disturbances.

    Risks for College Students

    • Difficulty getting homework done because computer games occupy a great deal of your time.
    • You connect to the Internet and suddenly discover it is several hours later and you have not left the computer.
    • Your friends are worried about you going on a date alone with a person known only from a chat room.
    • You spend most of your time online talking to friends from home instead of making new friends at college.
    • Almost all your friends are from online activities and contacts.
    • Your romantic partner is distraught because you have replaced your sexual relationship with Internet pornography and/or online sex.

Treatment must begin with recognizing there is a problem. Overcoming denial should be followed by other treatment steps, including:

    • Creating a behavior modification plan, such as setting a timer for usage, planning a daily schedule, keeping a log of moods when online, matching time spent online with time spent socializing face-to-face, and taking part in non-computer related activities.
    • Focusing on other areas for skill enhancement, such as problem solving, assertiveness, social skills, overcoming shyness and anger control.
    • Assessing for other disorders like depression or anxiety that may need medical treatment.
    • Assist in locating or forming a support group for other students who are trying to regain control over their computer use.

How to Help a Computer-Obsessed Friend

    • Be a good role model. Manage the computer use in your own life.
    • Introduce them to other people who handle their computer use sensibly.
    • Get them involved in non-computer related fun.
    • Talk to your friend about your concerns.
    • Support their desire for change if they think they have a problem.
    • Encourage them to seek professional counseling.

The most trusted name in project management training

Below are just a few of the benefits that we believe make our PMP certification training course offering the best in the industry:

    1. Firm Course Dates: All of our PMP certification training courses are 100% guaranteed to run on the dates listed. Other companies often register you for a course date, and then postpone the course until they can fill up the class. This means you may not actually take the course for months, which causes scheduling nightmares. Even worse, their terms and conditions allow them to keep most or all of your money, forcing you to take the course when it is most profitable for them.
    2. Full Money-Back Pass Guarantee: We provide a true 100% money-back pass guarantee, with no fine print. Other companies often just allow you to re-take the course. If they aren’t willing to back it up with a full money-back guarantee, you should question the quality of their course offering. Quite simply, we believe our PMP certification training course is the best and we stand behind it 100%.
    3. Free Post-Class Tutoring and Support: Most PMP training providers don’t provide any post-class support, or worse, they say they do and then let you down. We stand by our customers and support them throughout the entire PMP certification process.
    4. Training Materials Available Upon Registration: Our live classroom PMP training is second to none, but we also believe you should never leave class empty-handed. That’s why we provide students with a comprehensive online training portal, which includes over 50 recorded lectures-on-demand, mock exam software, quizzes, and various downloadable study aids. We provide online training access as soon as you register, so that you can get started immediately.
    5. Proven Results: We believe our PMP course prepares students better than any other provider and we have an audited pass rate of 99.9% to back it up.
    6. Outstanding Course Materials: We believe our PMP course materials are the most comprehensive and highest quality PMP certification training materials in the industry.

When choosing a PMP training provider, remember, not all PMP courses are equal. The quality of competing PMP exam prep courses can vary widely and some may not fully prepare you for the exam. When investing in your career you should never sacrifice quality for a lower price. If you weigh the key decision factors, we believe Project Management Academy provides the best value.

    100% Money-Back Pass Guarantee

We stand behind our product. Unlike other companies, we provide a true 100% money-back pass guarantee with no fine print. Our promise is simple:

    • You must attend the entire project management certification course and complete three full-length practice exams from our online training portal.
    • If you do not pass the PMP exam in three attempts, we will refund your entire course tuition, provided that all attempts occurred within 120 calendar days of completing the course.

All we ask in return is that you study hard and take full advantage of the extensive PMP exam prep study aids we provide.

    Guaranteed To Run

All PMP exam prep courses are 100% guaranteed to run on the dates listed. Yes, even if there’s only one student. While other providers often postpone courses due to low enrollment, we promise to never do that.

Live, instructor-led PMP bootcamp at our training facilities. You will also receive a print version of the PMP training materials (course binder) and 6-months access to our online training portal.

Virtual Classroom: 4 days of web-based eLearning with a live instructor. You will also receive a print version of the PMP training materials (course binder) and 6-months access to our online training portal.

In-House: If you have 8 or more employees seeking PMP training, we will deliver the course at your facility (or another location in your area, if you prefer). The training can be scheduled during any four consecutive days of your choosing.

4 days from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM

    What an Electrician Does

Structures used for residential and commercial purposes all have electrical wiring for lights, climate control, alarm systems, appliances, and whatever else draws current. The electrician is in the middle of construction projects and installs wiring to provide the required power feed based on specifications provided by the building designer. Some of their usual job tasks include:

    • Using testing meters and devices to isolate electrical troubles
    • Practicing strict adherence to local building regulations and code
    • Reading and understanding blueprints and applying those specifications to their work
    • Supervising other apprentices
    • Inspecting, installing, and repairing other electrical components such as circuit breakers and transformers

What an electrician does also goes beyond construction. They install electrical machinery wherever it is required. For example, they might install back-up generators in commercial buildings. They work with engineers, construction crews, and other technicians when it comes to installing or repairing anything electrical.

    The Workplace

The workplaces of electricians are just as varied as the types of jobs they work on. As a result, they are called upon to work outdoors, indoors, and in tight crawl spaces. They may have to work in adverse weather conditions as well. Their job has some hazards inherent to it. They are susceptible to injuries that any other worker would have at a construction site such as falls, cuts, and falling objects. Their job requires a significant amount of bending, kneeling, and standing. If working at industrial installations, they may be susceptible to excessive noise from heavy electrical machinery. They also have the additional risks of electric shock and burns from electrical accidents. Thus, they are required to wear safety garments and glasses plus adhere to strict guidelines to prevent these mishaps. Oftentimes for small jobs electricians will work on their own while consulting with other specialists on site. For example, they may consult with those responsible for installing heating and cooling systems before running the electrical feed wiring for them.

    Education and Certification

While some post-secondary vocational and trade schools offer programs to be an electrician, most go through a 4-year apprenticeship which typically involves 2,000 hours of on-the-job training with pay and 144 hours of classroom training for each year the apprentice is in the program. Trade unions and contractor organizations such as the Electrical Contractors Association and Independent Electrical Contractors Association offer various apprenticeship programs. These apprenticeship programs cover topics such as electrical building codes, reading blueprints, theory of electricity, safety, first-aid, elevators, soldering, fire alarms, and more. Apprentices are trained in both installation of new wiring (construction) as well as maintenance of existing installations. The first step to getting into an apprenticeship program is to earn your high school diploma or equivalency. One beneficial course you should take in high school is algebra. Other qualifications to get into an apprenticeship program include achieving the required score on an aptitude test, passing a drug test, and being at least 18 years of age. Licensing is required in all states and the requirements vary between them. It is best to contact the licensing authority of your state to get the specific requirements.

    Drug Counselor Training Program Information #drug #counselor #school, #drug #counselor #training

    Drug Counselor Training Program Information

    Essential Information

Training requirements for drug counselors vary by state, so individuals need to confirm the level of education needed to work in this field in their state. Certification requirements vary by state as well. Coursework may touch on the criminal justice system, co-dependency and abnormal psychology. Graduation requirements usually involve internships and/or written projects.

Prerequisites for certificate and undergraduate programs include a high school diploma or equivalent, with master’s degree programs requiring a bachelor’s degree. Depending on degree level, these programs can last anywhere from six months to four years.

    Drug and Alcohol Counseling Certificate

In some states, drug and alcohol counselors need as little as a high school diploma and certification, often issued by the International Certification Reciprocity Consortium (IC RC), in order to practice. Certification requires at least some education and practical experience, which often can be gained through a certificate program in alcohol and drug counseling. These programs usually are offered through 2-year colleges or extension departments at 4-year colleges. Generally, coursework typically takes at least six months to complete and includes theories of counseling, treatment planning and crisis intervention, as well as a supervised internship. Certificate programs usually require a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Some common course topics include:

    • Personal adjustment
    • Introduction to chemical addiction
    • Disease models of addiction
    • Addicts and the criminal justice system
    • Addiction assessment methods
    • Relapse and recovery

Bachelor of Science in Alcohol and Drug Counseling

Earning an undergraduate degree in alcohol and drug counseling might make it easier to meet IC RC work experience standards, which allow for substitution of 2,000 hours of work with a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science. Bachelor’s degree courses in alcohol and drug counseling typically delve more deeply into the psychological, physical and social implications of addiction. Bachelor’s degree programs typically require two years worth of general education classes, followed by 60 career-specific credits taken over an additional two years. In general, applicants to bachelor’s degree programs in alcohol and drug counseling must submit transcripts from any secondary and post-secondary schools that they’ve attended. Some programs also require a statement of purpose or letters of recommendation. Some common course topics include:

    • Drug studies
    • Alcohol dependence
    • Interpersonal skills for the helping professions
    • Co-dependency
    • Addiction and the family
    • Addiction and the law

Master of Science in Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling

Master’s programs in drug and alcohol counseling often include 40 hours of graduate classes, in addition to passage of a comprehensive exam and completion of a research paper or master’s thesis. Students also might be required to participate in supervised clinical work. These 2-year programs might allow for specialization in areas such as evidence-based counseling techniques or cultural sensitivity. Admission to graduate school requires a 4-year college degree, a Graduate Record Exam score, and transcripts of college work. Some common course topics include:

    • Abnormal psychology
    • Mental health and illness
    • Personality theory
    • Drug abuse theory
    • American drug policy
    • Cultural views of substance abuse

    • Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis
    • Substance Abuse Counseling

    Postgraduate Certificate in Addiction Studies

Several colleges and universities offer postgraduate certificate programs in addiction studies, which are intended for clinicians already working as counselors. These programs keep current drug and alcohol counselors abreast of developments in the field, in addition to preparing counselors from other fields for a move to substance abuse counseling. A master’s degree typically is required for admission to a postgraduate certificate program. Postgraduate certificate programs in addiction studies typically include around 18 credit hours of courses. Some common course topics include:

    • Advanced group studies
    • Physiology of addiction
    • Approaches to reducing harm
    • Pharmacology update
    • Ethics and boundaries
    • Addictions and violence

    Employment Outlook and Salary Info

Drug counselors–also known as substance abuse counselors, rehabilitation counselors or addictions professionals–help people who are addicted to alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription medicines, and other substances to become free of the physical and psychological effects of chemical dependency. Job prospects for substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors were expected to grow by 22% in the decade spanning 2014-2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov ). As of May 2015, median annual earnings for substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors were $39,980.

    Continuing Education

The IC RC has set minimum drug and alcohol counselor certification standards, which are referenced by its member boards, including 44 states. Credentials granted by the IC RC include Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (AODA), which requires at least 270 hours of education, 6,000 hours of work experience under professional supervision and passage of the AODA exam. Additionally, certification as an Advanced Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (AAODA) can be achieved with a minimum of a master’s degree in behavioral sciences, 2,000 hours of supervised work experience and passage of the AAODA exam.

Requirements for practicing drug counselors vary by state, with degree programs offering training available at the certificate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. These programs study the psychology of drug addiction from a multitude of angles, often incorporating internships that help students gain the practical experience usually required to begin practicing as drug counselors.

Is your organization ready for the GDPR?

After four years of debate, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR ) was ratified by the European Union during April 2016 and has now become law, although member states have a two year period to implement into national law. This means that companies will be expected to be fully compliant by May 25th 2018.

    Individuals are increasingly data-savvy and;

    • Understand how brands use their data for sales and marketing purposes
    • Are aware of their rights with regard to their personal data
    • Are concerned about the well-publicized threat of cyber data theft

Companies will be required to “implement appropriate technical and organizational measures” in relation to the nature, scope, context and purposes of their handling and processing of personal data.

In the event of a personal data breach, companies must notify the appropriate supervisory authority “without undue delay and, where feasible, not later than 72 hours after having become aware of it” if the breach is likely to “result in a risk for the rights and freedoms of individuals”.

Most organizations are concerned about the potential significant financial penalties the Regulation can bring, but some forward-thinking companies are also planning to be prepared now.

Innovation, experience and compliance are what it takes to deploy today’s most advanced procedures for data breach prevention.

You have decided to become a certified nursing assistant in Louisiana and are willing to devote the time and effort required to complete a state-approved CNA class. One of the questions you might have is how long it takes to complete a nurse aide course? Regardless of the type of facility offering a nurse assistant program, the curriculum must include eighty (80) hours of instruction. The classroom and clinical training are divided equally, with forty (40) hours dedicated to classroom teaching and the remaining forty (40) hours spent during clinical practice. All CNA classes and training programs must address the totality of a resident’s needs, including physical, psychosocial, environmental, and medical needs.

Nursing assistant students are thought about the attitudes and behaviors that result in a positive impact on a resident’s physical and mental condition. Clinical practice focuses on mastering a set of limited nurse aide skills necessary to provide assistance, support, and basic patient care. The majority of CNA training programs in Louisiana are being offered by two-year community colleges. The length of each particular course varies depending on which institution and class you choose to attend, but typical nurse aide programs take approximately one semester to complete. To find out the tuition cost, admission criteria, and start dates of a course, students are encouraged to contact the nurse aide program coordinator at the educational institution of their choice.

Is it possible to enroll in a CNA class without a high school diploma or GED?

Admin on November 8, 2014 at 05:34 PM
There are no federal regulations stating that individuals are required to have a high school diploma prior to attending nurse aide classes but some states such as Florida require a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to testing if you are under 18 years old and have not attended a training program. A program coordinator at the school or nursing facility which is offering CNA training classes may tell you if a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required in order to enroll in the nurse aide program. Some facilities do not require a diploma as long as you have completed a 10th grade high school education. In the state of Texas a high school diploma or a GED is not necessary in order to attend and complete a nursing assistant program.

    CNA Resources

    CNA Training Requirements

There is a wide disparity between CNA training requirements among the states. The difference lies in the mandatory number of total training hours necessary to complete state-approved CNA classes .

While according to federal law each nursing assistant course should contain a minimum of seventy-five (75) instruction and clinical hours, individual states have the liberty to mandate extra training requirements for certified nursing assistants. The majority of states exceed the threshold federal minimum requirements for nurse aide training programs because they are considered insufficient to result in an optimal and safe level of care for clients.

A review of nationwide state requirements for nurse assistant courses has found that the following states have mandated highest number of CNA program hours: Maine with a minimum of 90 hours of theory, 20 hours of laboratory skills and 70 hours of clinical instruction for a total of 180 hours; California with one hundred and sixty (160) training hours; Delaware and Oregon each requiring one hundred and fifty (150) hours; followed by the state of Alaska with one hundred and forty (140) hours; Virginia, Arizona, and West Virginia have a minimum of one hundred and twenty (120) training hours for state-approved classes.

    Video Game Designer

If you love gaming, and have a desire to learn the latest programming, art and media production skills, then video game designer is the career path for you. Depending on your interests and employment goals, the video game design job market offers a wealth of opportunities. According to the U.S. Dept. of Labor, video game designer employment will skyrocket 19% this decade, placing it among the fastest growing careers in America.

Most video game designer jobs fall into one of three disciplines: Game Artist. Game Designer or Game Programmer. The game design career track you choose will determine your daily activities and responsibilities, as well as the skills and education requirements to get hired. Learn about video game designer skills by discipline below.

All video game designers spend a lot of time in the classroom – or virtual classroom for online students – learning new skills to keep up with the gaming industry’s rapidly evolving technologies, trends and emerging platforms. However, with hard work and intense training comes great rewards — most video game designers with 6+ years of experience earn over $100,000 per year, according to Game Developer Magazine’s 2012 Salary Survey.

    Video Game Designer Education Requirements

Video game designer education requirements vary according to your game design job specialty. Game design training programs focus on three main disciplines – design, art, and programming. Your personal interests, passions and employment goals will determine which video game design training program is the best fit to get hired for the job you want. Here is a breakdown of video game designer education requirements by game design specialty:

Video Game Designer A college degree or certificate in game design or creative writing will help you get hired as a video game designer. Skills to look for in a video game designer education program include game theory, storytelling storyboarding, game planning and strategy, creative content writing, brainstorming creative thinking, and game design project management.

Video Game Programmer For game design programming jobs, the education requirement is typically a bachelor’s degree in video game development, computer science, software engineering, mobile application development, game simulation programming, or a similar programming-focused area of study. Video game programmers should be fluent in the object-oriented programming (OOP) languages commonly used in video game design, such as Java, C and C++.

Video Game Artist Education requirements for game art jobs ideally include a specialized 2- or 4-year game art degree, however a traditional art school degree is acceptable in many cases. Video game artists must first master traditional art techniques and principles, such as form, perspective color theory, before they can apply these skills to game elements like characters environments. A prospective video game artist’s most crucial asset is his or her design portfolio; the stronger and more relevant your portfolio, the less you will have to rely on your formal education to land the job. The ability to effectively use modern graphic design computer animation software, such as Adobe Flash, will also help you get hired as a video game artist.

With video game popularity at an all-time high, schools are evolving their game design education programs with topics like 3D modeling, character animation, world design, storyboarding, simulation programming and more. Research and compare the top-reviewed game design programs in the U.S. Canada and online.

What Traits do Game Design Studios Look for in a New Hire?

Game studios seek out designers who love gaming, because real players recognize what makes a video game good, bad, ugly, or incredible. Strong problem-solving skills are key for game designers, as the video game creation process is ripe with challenges and pitfalls. To succeed as a video game designer you need to be patient and willing to work long hours and overtime to solve these problems. Successful video game designers need the ability to work well as part of a team, as video games are an intensely collaborative medium.

What the Alums of PFCTA 2015-1 Have to Say

When I ask myself what the Academy has meant to me, the first thing that comes to mind is: It caused me to reconsider if I have truly been called to chaplaincy. I woke up at 4:00 a.m. on the Thursday morning of the academy. full of doubt. I shared this with my wife who is also my co-chaplain. She faithfully listened. Into the first class of the day came Tom Lumsden. by the time he finished God reconfirmed that I have been called. All of the teaching has been confirming and affirming. I now believe I am equipped to begin.

    Nick. Molalla Fire Department

Chaplaincy has been described to us this week as the painful privilege . Who signs up to go in the night to deliver to someone, the most crushing blow they’ve ever received? Really, who does that? Those who are called of God to journey with people through their most intimate moments of pain. This work cannot be done alone. This week I’ve been united with 30 men and women who share the painful privilege . We’ve been equipped by those who have gone before us to join the ranks of those who support our first responders.

    Chris Peppler. Bothell Police Department

I have done a fair amount of Bible/Ministry training. Nothing has prepared me more for chaplaincy than PFCTA. The instructors are experienced, the contend invaluable and the hands on excercise with police and fire agencies was a ton of fun. Before I came into this program I wasn’t sure if deputies thought of me more than a ‘wannabe , but now I know our presence as a chaplain is invited and respected. I feel prepared to escort Christ into the next crisis for our Department.

You learn, you get challenged, you laugh, you cry, you get tired, you get inspired, you grow, you make new relationships, you get equipped, your tool box gets filled and you prepare to launch, reminded to be humble and serve.

    Josi Jones. Edmonds, WA

I came to the Chaplain’s Academy expecting a lot of information that I thought I probably already knew, since I’ve been a pastor for 30 years. What I received was absolutely wonderful training by very qualified and experienced teachers. (I would call them life coaches.) Although the class time is needed and valuable, academically, the relationships I developed during the week for future friendships and chaplain resources were invaluable!

The Academy is worth every penny and every hour if you even think you might want to serve somewhere as a chaplain.

Dan W. Ingram, Pastor Puyallup, WA

The Police and Fire Chaplains Training Academy was a life changing experience. The experts presented their materials in a vibrant and enthusiastic way. The interaction between instructors and candidates was phenomenal. I left with a great understanding of the challenges ahead and the great need of a chaplain in the new world I have been called to enter. Thank you so very much and God Bless You!

    What Makes Us Different?

    Non-Traditional Groups

Traditional support groups encourage grievers to talk about their pain but don’t always offer (a path to feeling better instead of clear cut solutions). You will use the official Grief Recovery format to guide your participants to take clear actions that will lead them to a happier life.

    Straight From the Heart

Grief is normal and natural emotional reaction to loss, but most of the solutions people are taught are intellectual. You’ll guide people from their heads to their hearts, which will improve the quality of their lives. Although the training is partially educational, the solution is emotional.

    Loss is our Only Topic

Few of us would go to our auto mechanic for medical advice; we typically seek out experts with experience related to the problem we are trying to solve. Yet on average only 25% of Standard Poor (S P) 500 companies have independent directors with related industry experience, according to data collected by CEIBS Professor of Finance Wang Cong for the period of 2000 to 2007. How effective can an independent board director be at monitoring and advising top management of a firm without having worked in the same industry?

Manufacturing firms know they must be flexible, creative and innovative if they want to survive in today’s fiercely competitive market. But can they do this while hitting productivity targets, which are also a key component of operations? How the dynamic between innovation and quality management, which are often at cross-purposes, influences new product innovation is the focus of a new study co-authored by Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management Zhao Xiande. The study also explores how two organizational characteristics, centralization of authority and integration between functions, affect manufacturing innovation.

The toxic work culture at the ride-hailing company Uber was among the reasons why a group of investors recently forced out its CEO Travis Kalanick. Company culture typically comes from the top; employees take their cues from company leaders about what behaviours are acceptable in the workplace. The issues at Uber, which received extensive media coverage, included battles between the company and its drivers over some of its compensation practices, and an investigation into around 200 bullying and sexual harassment allegations.

Globalization and multiculturalism have resulted in increased collaboration and exchange between different countries and cultures. We see examples of this in chains such as McDonalds opening more restaurants in China and India with localized menus, and companies like Unilever and P G launching products tailored to the needs of emerging market customers. It is no surprise, therefore, that multinational organizations view cultural intelligence (CQ), the ability to adapt and function in foreign settings, as a valuable asset in the workplace.

Paris – Former Prime Minister of France Jean-Pierre Raffarin today highlighted the similarities between China and France on issues such as globalisation and the need for collaboration at the international level. “If I am to say one thing – among many – on which both France and China have always had consensus, I would say it’s the multilateralism, the international cooperation, and a multipolar vision of the world,” he said. He was speaking to a gathering of French and Chinese business executives at CEIBS 3rd Europe Forum, held in Paris. The event focused on Sino-Franco investments, how France can benefit from China’s economic growth and how Chinese companies can leverage French investors’ resources to better compete both domestically and internationally.

    Student and Exchange Visitor Program

    SEVP Overview

Welcome to the official SEVP and SEVIS website. Here you can find the latest information and resources for F (academic) and M (vocational) students, as well as designated school officials (DSOs).

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) is a part of the National Security Investigations Division and acts as a bridge for government organizations that have an interest in information on nonimmigrants whose primary reason for coming to the United States is to be students.

On behalf of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), SEVP manages schools, nonimmigrant students in the F and M visa classifications and their dependents. The Department of State (DoS) manages Exchange Visitor Programs, nonimmigrant exchange visitors in the J visa classification and their dependents. Both SEVP and DoS use the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to track and monitor schools; exchange visitor programs; and F, M and J nonimmigrants while they visit the United States and participate in the U.S. education system.

    Background: SEVP and SEVIS

    What is SEVP?

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) is the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program that administers the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). It ensures that government agencies have essential data related to nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors to preserve national security. SEVP provides approval and oversight to schools authorized to enroll F and M nonimmigrant students and gives guidance to both schools and students about the requirements for maintaining their status.

    What is SEVIS?

SEVIS is a web-based system for maintaining information on international nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors in the United States. It is the core technology for the DHS in this critical mission. SEVIS implements Section 641 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, which requires DHS to collect current information from nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors continually during their course of stay in the United States. In addition, the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 (USA PATRIOT Act; Public Law 107-56, amended Section 641) mandated implementation of SEVIS prior to Jan. 1, 2003.

What is the purpose of SEVIS?

SEVIS tracks and monitors nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors. If accepted by an SEVP-certified school, foreign students may be admitted to the United States with the appropriate F or M nonimmigrant status. If accepted for participation in a Department of State-verified exchange visitor program, exchange visitors may be admitted to the United States with J nonimmigrant status. Records of these nonimmigrant admissions and continued participation in these educational programs are maintained in SEVIS. Further, SEVIS enables SEVP to assure proper reporting and record keeping by schools and exchange visitor programs, thereby ensuring data currency and integrity. SEVIS also provides a mechanism for student and exchange visitor status violators to be identified so that appropriate enforcement is taken (i.e. denial of admission, denial of benefits or removal from the United States).

Who are F and M nonimmigrant students?

The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provides for the admission of different classes of nonimmigrants who are foreign nationals seeking temporary admission to the United States. The purpose of the nonimmigrant’s intended stay in the United States determines his or her proper nonimmigrant classification. Some classifications permit the nonimmigrant’s spouse and qualifying children to accompany the nonimmigrant to the United States or to join the nonimmigrant here. To qualify, a child must be unmarried and under the age of 21.

F-1 nonimmigrants, as defined in section 101(a)(15)(F) of the INA, are foreign students coming to the United States to pursue a full course of academic study in SEVP-approved schools. An F-2 nonimmigrant is a foreign national who is the spouse or qualifying child of an F-1 student.

M-1 nonimmigrants, as defined in section 101(a)(15)(M) of the INA, are foreign nationals pursuing a full course of study at an SEVP-approved vocational or other recognized nonacademic institution (other than in language training programs) in the United States. An M-2 nonimmigrant is a foreign national who is the spouse or qualifying child of an M-1 student.

On Sept. 16, 2011, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano and ICE Director John Morton launched the Study in the States Initiative at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A key aspect of this initiative seeks to enhance coordination between the various federal agencies that play a role in implementing our international student visa and exchange visitor programs.
The launch of the Study in the States website was part of this initiative. Sponsored by DHS and managed by SEVP, this website provides a wealth of information and resources to encourage the best and brightest international students to study and learn about expanded post-graduate opportunities in the United States.

The Study in the States website allows ICE and its partner agencies, as well as DoS, to more effectively communicate information to international students, exchange visitors and their dependents. The site features dynamic and interactive content in a user-friendly manner and uses social media tools, such as Facebook. Twitter and LinkedIn to provide updates to visitors around the globe.

SEVP collects, maintains, analyzes and provides information so only legitimate foreign students or exchange visitors gain entry to the United States. The result is an easily accessible information system that provides timely information to Department of State, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as a number of other federal enforcement agencies with “need to know.”

    #hospice aide job description

Hospice Care Aides Job Description, Career as a Hospice Care Aides, Salary, Employment – Definition and Nature of the Work, Education and Training Requirements, Getting the Job

Training/Educational Requirements: High school diploma preferred

    Median Salary: $9.34 per hour

    Job Prospects: Excellent

    Job Description

A hospice care aide helps individuals unable of helping themselves. These aides travel to the patient s home and help them perform activities required for daily life. Hospice care aides are often associated with the elderly or disabled who are unable to take care of themselves, so they perform all required functions specific to the patient.

Most of the time, a hospice aide is the first position an individual may take at the beginning of their career. Alternatively, an individual may seek such a career if they are interested in the nursing field, but do not have the required education or training. Most functions performed are rather fundamental in nature, and do not require much training.

Hospice aides usually work within a hospice environment or travel to the patient s home. They help the individual eat, get up out of bed, or help them with the bathroom or a bedpan. The number of duties involved depends on the nature and the status of the patient, since they are expected to help the patient function as normally as possible. If working within a hospice environment, they work with individual patients to make their final days as comfortable as possible. If working in a home environment, they spend time sitting with or caring for an elderly or disabled patient who requires extra care.

Many times, families of patients in either a home or hospice environment can t commit to 24 hour care, so they hire a hospice aide to help during the times they are absent. Hospice aides travel to the home and work in shifts providing round the clock supervision and care. They aren t usually a registered nurse or hold a license and cannot usually administer medication, so the responsibilities are typically fundamental.

    Training/Educational Requirements

There is no educational or training requirement for this position. A hospice aide learns from on-the-job training with a registered nurse or a nurse s aide. They learn the proper way to do things such as help a patient out of bed or assist with a bedpan by observing other nurses and by practicing. Oftentimes the family of the patient has a particular way they want things done, so the best training comes from working directly on the job.

The National Association for Home Care and Hospice ( NAHC ) offers certification for personal and home care aides throughout the country. This certification is not mandatory although individuals may opt to gain it to demonstrate they have met established industry standards. It can be a simple certification and lend way to further development within this role. Those individuals wishing to gain their certification must complete a 75-hour course, observe and document work in up to 17 different skills signed off by a registered nurse. In addition, they must successfully pass a final exam. Although this isn t a requirement, it can certainly lend way to more opportunities for advancement.

There are some high school courses that prepare for this role. At the early stages, an individual can do a co-op job to better prepare themselves for becoming a hospice aide. There are some standalone classes an individual can take in patient care which prepares them for the real thing. Individuals interested in a career as a hospice aide receive basic training from the company they work for before they are sent to a patient s home.

When working in a hospice environment, the facility will provide some training not only in how to care for a patient but also in how to make them comfortable as they prepare for death. There are certain personality traits such as patience and compassion that are required for such a role since most patients are elderly, disabled, or dying.

    How to Get Hired

Most individuals wishing to get a job as a hospice aide look for employment with a home health care services company. This is usually the best way to get hired because the patients and their families go to such a company to hire this type of individual. It helps to take training classes or work through a high school co-op to prepare for this role. In turn, this also helps to get hired much faster.

For the hospice aide wishing to get hired into a hospice environment, it helps to apply to the facility directly. Usually these facilities are looking for background and experience since patients who come in here require a certain type of personality. It is also helpful to have experience working with a dying patient.

Although there is no specific educational requirement for this position, experience helps to get hired. It is especially true for families who are hiring someone to come to their home and care for their loved one.

Job Prospects, Employment Outlook, and Career Development

There is expected to be a better than average increase in the hiring of hospice aides. This role is expected to grow as families continue to look for individuals to care for their loved ones in a home or hospice environment. Since this is an entry-level position, the requirements for hiring are much lower. Therefore, it appeals to those who may not have a college education. There is a high potential for growth since people oftentimes don t want to work within an entry-level role.

As more hospice centers become a popular environment, the need for hospice aides will increase. So, too, will the need to keep aging or disabled family members in their home rather than sending them to a nursing home. This means there will be an increased need for individuals in this role, and within the home health care services business.

    Working Environment

Depending on the type of facility a hospice aide wishes to work within, the environment may be slightly different. If focused within home health care, the individual will often travel to patient s homes. The assignment may last for a short time or may become a regular job. Individuals in this role care for more than one patient in their home or sometimes travel between a variety of different patient s homes. It all depends on the patients, the workload and the hours required. However, if focused within the home health care niche, hospice aides can expect the working environment to be an actual home. If focused within the hospice niche, it is expected to work within such a facility or institution. These facilities strive to create a cozy environment for their patients so they can be comfortable before they die. This work environment is more like an actual medical facility, but feels cozier.

    Salary and Benefits

As of 2006, the average earnings for a hospice aide was about $9.34 an hour. The range averaged anywhere from $7.99 all the way up to $13 per hour depending on the facility. In some instances, a home health care company pays slightly higher depending on the environment and patient s needs. The more experience an individual has, the more they can expect to earn per hour.

Since these are hourly positions, most of the time hospice aides work without any true benefits. Any travel expenses incurred are the individuals responsibility and are often not reimbursed. Instead, a flat hourly rate is given to hospice aides. For those working within a hospice environment, they can expect some benefits if they are hired by the facility directly.

    Optimal Hospice volunteer training

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Optimal Hospice is looking for volunteers. Whether it’s a skill or just time, organizers say everyone has something to offer.

Assistant volunteer coordinator Karen Budnick says volunteers play an important role in hospice.

Budnick said, They’re able to give family members a break so that they can step away and some times it’s just so they can go to the grocery store or go to a doctor’s appointment.

Thursday morning, new volunteers learned more about their role.

It’s end of life, which I think that a lot of us are not comfortable with the end of life, but when you realize that it’s living life to the fullest and helping somebody do that, it really captures your heart, said Budnick.

Volunteer Tim Brewer said, There’s a whole lot of satisfaction in just giving, period.

Brewer is part of the veteran to veteran program, providing support to patients and family members who served in the military.

We would love to have more veteran volunteers, pet therapy, really any type of volunteers. We have volunteers that cut hair, massage, visit, listen to wonderful stories, said Budnick.

No matter what your specialty, the compassion is welcome.

    Airframe and Powerplant

Your first step toward a career in Aviation Maintenance Science is obtaining your FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A P) Certification.
Global’s hands-on approach trains students in the specific skills employers seek in the airframe powerplant mechanics and aircraft inspection fields. Students take courses in simulated work environments from instructors with real-world experience.
Our curriculum was developed by educators and industry representatives to ensure that course offerings accurately reflect current industry standards. Students must complete the required course to qualify for the program’s Certificate of Achievement. Once trained, technicians will also be successful in related fields of aircraft manufacturing, electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, sheet metal, quality control, civil and military defense.
    F.A.A. Eligibility Requirements
The A P mechanics course is for applicants who meet FAR 65.71-65.77 only. Under these regulations, you must have a certain type of mechanical experience before the F.A.A. will allow you to take the F.A.A. written exams. The required experience for the powerplant mechanic rating is a minimum of 18 months working with tools on any type of aircraft engine. The required experience for the airframe mechanic rating is a minimum of 18 months working with tools on any type of airframe. If you want both ratings, and your experience was a combination of airframe and powerplant, then you need a total of 30 months experience (not 36).
    Obtaining Your Authorization Slips
To be enrolled in GLOBAL SCHOOL OF AERONAUTICS as a mechanic student, you must first meet the F.A.A. experience requirements. The purpose of this is to be sure the F.A.A. will permit you to take the written exam after you finish the course.
    Oral and Practical Examinations
The F.A.A. requires the written results to be in the student’s hands before an Oral and Practical examination may be given. Therefore, in order to take an oral and practical examination with one of our examiners, you must bring your written score slips and your airmen certificate and/or rating application 8610-2. Your F.A.A. inspector should give you two copies of the 8610-2 form, both bearing original signatures. Photo copied signatures are not accepted.
    Classroom Time
The average time to obtain the A P rating is from 11 – 13 days. Our instructors work closely with each student, progressing him/her based on their own capabilities. Our course is guaranteed 100% – we keep working with you until you pass – good for 36 months.

    Voicemail Etiquette #training, #course, #voicemail, #leave, #messages, #return, #call, #phone, #time, #don’t,

    Voicemail Etiquette

Voicemail 101: Simple Steps That May Save You Hours

First and foremost, read the book that came with your voicemail system. Over the course of a year, you may waste a few hours repeating whole messages if you don’t know the simple commands for forwarding and rewinding calls. What? You’ve lost the book, or they never gave you one? No excuse: www.google.com. Search for your phone model, and you will probably find the manual. No time to read it? Bring it with you to meetings, on airplanes, the grocery store – find a minute here or there to pick up a new tip.

    1. Identify your name, organization, and telephone number in your outgoing message.

“Hi, this is Karen Smith with Adcomine at 212-555-1234.”

    1. State that you are not available and any other important information.

“I’m out of the office today,January 3rd, 2006. I will be returningJanuary 5th, 2006. I will not check voicemail until I am back. If this is an emergency or you need immediate assistance, please call Bill Withers at 917-555-6543.”

    1. Tell people how to leave an appropriate message. That’s right, if you want good information, ask for it.

“Please leave a brief message stating how I can help you, along with your phone number, and I will call you back.”

    1. If you prefer email, offer that as an option to callers. If you have an unusual name or company name, spell out the email address.

“You may want to email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ”

    1. To cut down on repeat calls if you work in a high-volume call area, state that you will return calls within 24 hours or whatever time period your organization’s policy on return calls requires.
    2. If you update your message when you go out of town, don’t forget to update it again when you get back.
    3. If your system allows callers to bypass your message by hitting the pound key, tell them that, especially if you have an unusually long message.

When to Check and How to Check Voicemail.

The number of times you check voicemail each day will vary depending on your job function and industry. However, if you have not told people differently, at a minimum you should check messages once a day and return those calls. Here are some other helpful tips for checking voicemail.

    1. Have a pen and paper ready when you begin dialing – duh. (This is Voicemail 101).
    2. Listen to all of the messages before you start returning calls.
    3. Remember that you don’t have to return them in the order they were received.
    4. Sometimes it’s easier to return calls when you are pretty sure the recipients won’t pick up the telephone. You can answer their questions on their voicemail and move on with your day.
    5. If you are super busy and have the luxury of an assistant or some other kind soul, ask this person to return some of your phone calls. This is especially good if it is going to take an unusually long time for you to get back with someone.
    6. Don’t save messages you really don’t need. If you wrote down the information from the call, most of the time there is no reason to save the original recording. After all, do you really want your box so full no one can leave a message? That’s embarrassing and unprofessional. Imagine that you are charging clients big bucks, and they can’t leave messages because you can’t get your act together well enough to leave them adequate recording room. Pitiful.

    Leaving Effective Voicemails

When leaving messages, have mercy on your listeners and do the following:

    1. Speak slowly and leave your phone number at the beginning and the end of the message.
    2. Limit your comments to one or two subjects. Voicemail is not a one-person show.
    3. If you are rambling, for the sake of others and your reputation, stop yourself and rerecord.
    4. If you need action of some sort, state what you need. Voicemails that simply say, “call me” are irritating at best.
    5. If the recipient of your messages tends to fall into the trap listed in the previous point, tell him or her, “When you return my call, please leave a message on my voicemail to let me know the status of the project if I’m not able to pick up the phone.”
    6. If you are using a group distribution list that lists everyone’s name on the message, read the manual for your phone system and put the list at the end. If people want to listen to it they can.

    Sample of a Perfect Voicemail

“Hi, this is Karen Smith with Adcomine at 212-555-1234. I’m calling to let you know that we have received your package and will have a response to you by Friday. If you have any questions, please call me. Again, Karen Smith with Adcomine at 212-555-1234.”

There you have it: Voicemail 101 in a nutshell. A little careful planning and attention can free your time and help you view voicemail as the useful tool that it is rather than the torture it can be.
