Entrance to the Wigwam Village Motel #6
National Park Service
Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program

In the arid Arizona desert, the Wigwam Village Motel in Holbrook still provides Route 66 aficionados the opportunity to Sleep in a Wigwam!

While passing through Cave City, Kentucky in 1938, Chester E. Lewis was impressed by the distinctive design of the original Wigwam Village constructed in 1937 by architect Frank Redford. An astute observer may notice that the Wigwam Village is not composed of wigwams but of teepees. Mr. Redford, who patented the wigwam village design in 1936, disliked the word teepee and used wigwam instead.

Mr. Lewis purchased copies of the plans and the right to use the Wigwam Village name. The purchase included a royalty agreement in which Mr. Lewis would install coin operated radios, and every dime inserted for 30 minutes of play would be sent to Mr. Redford as payment. Seven Wigwam Villages were constructed between 1936 and the 1950s. Finished in 1950, Mr. Lewis village was the sixth, thus its designation as Wigwam Village #6.

Antique cars parked along Wigwam Village Motel
Arizona State Historic Preservation Office

Fifteen concrete and steel freestanding teepees are arranged in a semi-circle around the main office. The motel office and its surrounding small buildings represent the quarters of the chief and his family. Each teepee is 21 feet wide at the base and 28 feet high. The teepees are painted white with a red zigzag above the doorway. Rooms feature the original hand-made hickory furniture, and each is equipped with a sink, toilet, and shower. Vintage automobiles are permanently parked throughout the property, including a Studebaker that belonged to Mr. Lewis. In front of the main office were gas pumps that are no longer in place.

Mr. Lewis successfully operated the motel until Interstate 40 bypassed downtown Holbrook in the late-1970s. Mr. Lewis sold the business, and it remained open, but only to sell gas. Two years after Mr. Lewis death, his wife and grown children re-purchased the property and reopened the motel in 1988. They removed the gas pumps and converted part of the main office into a museum, which is open to the public. The museum holds Mr. Lewis own collection of Indian artifacts, Civil War memorabilia, Route 66 collectibles, and a petrified wood collection. Wigwam Village Motel #6 was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. In 2003 and 2007. the motel received Cost-Share Grants from the NPS Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program. Of the seven original Wigwam Village Motels, two other Wigwam Village Motels survive: #2 in Cave City, Kentucky and #7 in Rialto/San Bernardino, California.

Plan your visit

Wigwam Village Motel #6 is located at 811 West Hopi Dr. in Holbrook, AZ. For reservations contact 928-524-3048 or visit the Wigwam Motel website. Each teepee has a private bathroom with toilet and shower, a television, and air conditioner. Keeping with the authenticity of the original motel, there is no ice machine, but if requested, staff will fill a small ice bucket for customers.

How to use our sales forecast template #business #travel #forecast

How to use our sales forecast template

Our sales forecast template (Excel 120KB) can help you calculate your expected sales revenue and profit potential – and later, help you with your cash flow forecast. Use this article to help you complete our sales forecast template.

What does the sales forecast template do? This template is an easy-to-use Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that allows you to input your expected sales figures per quarter, along with your overheads. As you plug in your numbers, it automatically calculates quarterly and annual figures for:

The sales forecast template is also professionally formatted, making it perfect for printing and sharing with your business partners or small business banker. Using the sales forecast template Our sales forecast template helps you to accurately identify projected sales on a quarterly and annual basis. By completing a sales forecast, you won’t be operating in the dark – and you’ll be less likely to be caught off guard at the end of the quarter or year. Using a sales forecast to predict sales and profit also allows you to:

  • Establish targets.
  • Monitor progress.
  • Address expected shortfalls or windfalls.

Note that this is a sales forecast, not a cash flow forecast. While you’ll want to enter your overheads like rent, salaries, and utilities, you don’t need to get too deep into your expenses. For sales forecasting purposes, you’ll enter the average sale per customer along with the average cost per sale into the template rather than individual expenses.

Sales forecasting for start-ups

Sales forecasting is hard for start-ups because you don’t have any past records to use as a basis for your forecast. However, you can use external data. In order to complete a sales forecast for a start-up, you’ll need to:

  • Look at trends.
  • Check out past statistics of market demand.
  • Find out what your competitors are doing.
  • Work out what you need to do to break even.

Sales forecasting for established businesses

If you’ve started, then look at:

  • Last year’s sales.
  • Opportunities coming up.
  • Any threats on the horizon.

For example, if your business averages about 500 customers per quarter with an average sale of $300, that’s your starting point. Assuming nothing changes, you could expect total sales of $150,000 for the quarter. However, opportunities may exist – such as a competitor going out of business or an expansion into a new market. Do you intend to exploit those opportunities? If so, factor that in. How many of your competitor’s customers might you be able to attract or how many new customers do you think you can convert in a new market? The same is true of potential threats – such as an economic slowdown or change in legislation affecting your business. How will these threats affect your sales? Will you lose customers? Will they scale back their purchases? Will your average cost per sale go up? Again factor threats into your forecast. Because opportunities and threats can affect your sales, you’ll want to complete a SWOT analysis as part of a sales forecast for an existing business.

How to use our sales forecast template

Using our sales forecast template is easy, but you’ll need to download it to your computer first. From there, complete the following steps Step 1. Open the sales forecast template in Microsoft Excel or a compatible spreadsheet application. Step 2. Enter your name and company name in the ‘Prepared By’ (C3) field. Note that the Date field (F3) is automatically generated. Step 3. Enter your projected sales figures for each quarter. You’ll need to know the following:

  • Number of customers (per quarter).
  • Average sale per customer.
  • Average cost per sale.

The template will automatically calculate your total sales and gross profit for each quarter and the year based on the data you ent Step 4. Enter your overheads for each quarter. These are your recurring costs such as rent, advertising, postage, uniforms, taxes, payroll, motor vehicle expenses, and salaries. The template includes suggested overheads. If your business doesn’t incur some of these overheads, that’s fine. Use the ‘Other’ field to list any other overheads not listed. The sales forecast template calculates your total overheads and net profit automatically based on the data you enter. Step 5. Examine your results – print your completed sales forecast out and refer to it each quarter to ensure that you’re on target. If you regularly create and monitor sales forecasts each year, your future forecasts are likely to become more accurate.

Hawaii Travel Guide

From snowcapped volcanoes to rainforests to lava-rock deserts, Hawaii is much more than the parade of high-rise hotels that hug glorious Waikiki Beach. The push and pull between highly developed tourist apex, ancient Polynesian culture, and natural paradise is palpable in the complex 50th state. Add to that the vestiges of “old” (pre–1959 statehood) Hawaii—the one where mai tais are poured in a salty seaside shack to the tune of hapa haole (Hawaiian music with English lyrics), and you have a destination with a rich, complex identity. But everywhere the generous spirit of “aloha” is infectious, making lifetime repeat visitors of many who set foot on these exotic, yet very American, islands.

Located in the Pacific Ocean west of California, Hawaii is the only state to be completely surrounded by water. It consists of six main islands—the Big Island, Maui, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and Lanai. Cascading waterfalls, black-sand beaches, and rugged canyons make Hawaii travel great for relaxation or adventure. And getting around is easy—there’s one major airport and several smaller ones. This Hawaii travel guide is filled with ideas to kick-start your vacation planning.

Things Not to Miss in Hawaii

Here, a few highlights of this idyllic island chain.

• Snorkel to view bright corals, tropical fish, and sea turtles.
• Sunbathe on one of the many beaches that dot the 750 miles of coastline.
• Go whale-watching during humpback migration season (December—April)

When to Visit Hawaii

Hawaii is in the tropics, but has a cooler, drier climate due to the trade winds that blow from the east. Temperatures are consistently warm but comfortable throughout the year, but it’s important to keep in mind when planning your travel to Hawaii that May through October is dry season, while November through April is the rainy season. If you visit Hawaii in the winter months, it is advisable to bring rain gear.

DON’T MISS

  • A horseback or carriage ride into the Big Island’s Waipio Valley, a lush ancient gorge sacred to the Hawaiians, where taro is still cultivated as it was by the original Polynesian settlers who set foot here more than a thousand years ago.
  • Ringing the enormous bell at Oahu’s stunning Byodo–In temple, a replica of a 900-year-old building in Uji, Japan, with a gorgeous green mountain backdrop.
  • Seeing some of the best hula dancers in the state at the dance’s traditional birthplace on rural Molokai at the three-day Molokai Ka Hula Piko festival in May.

Ask Us a Question

Ask Us a Question

Q: How can I find the perfect beach for me?

Here’s a quick primer on Florida beaches to help you choose. Start by choosing your general location and the time of year you want to visit.

  • Gulf of Mexico Beaches will tend to have white sand and calmer waters (which is great for really young children or for those timid about the water).
  • Atlantic Beaches tend to have golden brown sand and waves (which are great fun if you like to surf, skim board, etc).
  • The Florida Keys are great fun, but not renowned for their beaches, with the exception of beautiful Bahia Honda. Many of the Florida Keys’ beaches are manmade, or are just a layer of sand over a sliver of limestone. (If you want superb scuba diving and snorkeling, you cannot beat the Keys.)
  • The north is almost always cooler than south, something to remember in both summer and winter. To find out the average temperature of a destination, just scroll to the bottom of VISIT FLORIDA’s home page. You’ll find a place to enter the city’s name plus the month.

Next, you should figure out the general vibe you’re looking for. Do you want a big city? A charming little town with shopping and cafes? A beach where you see almost nobody else? Someplace upscale? Someplace old-fashioned? Do you like miniature golf and T-shirt shops, or do you hate them? Florida features beaches on both coasts in all these varieties.

A few articles you may find helpful:

To further research any destination that you find interesting, put its name into the search engine on the VISIT FLORIDA homepage. and it will give you lots of info that you can filter by blog, article, photo or video, to help you decide which one is the best fit for you.

I’m happy to help you find exactly what you’re looking for, too! Just write me with details of what you’d like!

Q: What’s the closest beach to Orlando?

Cocoa Beach would be the closest to Orlando. It’s on the Atlantic side and only about 55 minutes away. It’s also home to the Kennedy Space Center. Daytona Beach or New Smyrna would be about a 75-minute drive. If you seek Gulf coast beaches, head to St. Petersburg/Clearwater Beach (less than two hours). The beaches are beautiful and there is plenty to do for families – we love Pier 60 in Clearwater.

Q: Where can I find discounted theme park tickets?

Most theme parks run their own specials, so before your visit, log on to the park’s website and click specials or offers. Often, you’ll also find special rates for Florida residents on the theme parks’ websites. If you live in Florida, be sure to buy your tickets online for SeaWorld. Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World Resorts.

If you’re an out-of-state visitor, check ticket brokers. Mousesavers offers various discounts for military, GE, Hilton, Costco and AAA. Speaking of AAA, members can get discounts through AAAsouth.com. Another reliable source is the Official Ticket Center. which offers discount tickets for all the Orlando theme parks, plus dinner shows and other attractions. Also try UnderCover Tourist. Orlando Fun Tickets and Reserve Orlando.

It may take some digging, but you CAN score a deal on theme park tickets, leaving more money for snacks and souvenirs.

Q: How do I get my fishing license to fish in Florida?

We posed your question to Chelsea Auffarth, spokeswoman for Orlando Premium Outlets. See below for her response.

Happy shopping (and saving)!

While every day is a sale at our centers, outlets do have seasonal sales. Please see below for our 2011 sale calendar. Orlando Premium Outlets offers over 300 stores in the Orlando area which offer savings of 25 percent to 65 percent everyday with additional sales throughout the year. You can visit the Sales Events page of our website to view our current in-store promotions.

It’s no secret that shopping is a top activity for travelers and vacationers. While kids of all ages enjoy the thrills of Orlando’s theme parks, savvy shoppers enjoy the thrill of finding the finest designer brands at savings at the area’s two incredible outlet centers – one serving the area near Walt Disney World and the other serving the area near Universal Orlando Resort.

Located only one mile from Walt Disney World on Interstate 4 at exit 68 on Vineland Avenue, Orlando Premium Outlets – Vineland Avenue features 150 designer and name-brand outlet stores. This beautiful, Mediterranean inspired village offers area visitors a chance to purchase some of the finest designer brands at great savings. The impressive list of stores includes A|X Armani Exchange, Barneys New York Outlet, BCBG Max Azria, Brooks Brothers, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Coach, Cole Haan, Diesel, Dior, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss, J.Crew, Kenneth Cole, Lacoste, LeSportsac, Lucky Brand, Marni, MaxMara, Michael Kors, Nautica, Polo Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tag Heuer, Tod’s, Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch, Wolford, Zegna Outlet and much more.

In addition to these two high end outlet centers, shoppers should save time to stop by a third area center, located just south of Orlando Premium Outlets – International Drive. Online Certified Travel Agent Courses with Certification Info

Essential Information

Most online travel agent courses are part of diploma programs that prepare graduates for national travel agent certification. Online travel agent programs can typically be taken fully online and depending on the school, can usually be completed in six months or less. After completion, graduates are prepared for entry-level jobs as travel agents.

There are several certifications available to travel agents. First is the Travel Institute’s Travel Agent Proficiency (TAP) test, which certifies that graduates have entry-level understanding of the travel industry. For those who successfully pass the test, six months of work experience is required for the second certification, the Certified Travel Associate (CTA) certification. CTA agents are prepared for a career with a travel company or through independent practice.

For those who wish to advance into management roles, Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) certification qualifies travel agents in business negotiations and marketing strategies. The Certified Travel Industry Executive (CTIE) credential is geared toward agents in upper-level management and indicates a higher-level understanding of business relations.

Online Travel Agent Classes

Commonly offered online travel agent courses are summarized below.

  • Travel Agent Training Course: The initial component of this class covers the history, function and marketing of the travel industry. Geography and travel technology are discussed, as well as the financial and business aspects of the travel industry, including marketing, communication and specialized sales. A second component of the course covers the function and use of industry-standard travel agent computer programs and students learn to operate by using a simulation mode that mimics real-world travel agent operations. The course culminates with career education, and students learn job-searching techniques and the fundamentals of working in the travel industry.
  • Certified Travel Associate (CTA) Certification Course: Travel agents must have 18 months of full-time industry experience or 12 months with TAP test completion to qualify for this program. Classes build upon topics covered in the travel agent training course, with emphasis on specialized travel sales techniques, consumer-focused professionalism and office skills. Students also choose four electives to supplement the eight core courses, with options ranging from management of time to sales of specialized travel packages.
  • Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) Certification Course: This 6-month program is designed for the established travel professional with CTA certification and at least five years of experience. Courses focus on marketing and consumer relationships and classes discuss the development of marketing strategies, productive management of office politics and effective presentation tactics. Graduates must complete relevant continuing education classes every year to keep certification.
  • Certified Travel Industry Executive (CTIE) Certification Course: Candidates for this program must have at least five years of experience within the field and CTC certification. Courses cover advanced elements of travel industry business management and topics include the logistics of travel law, mutually beneficial conflict resolution, bookkeeping and marketing management. Students can have 18 months to complete the program.
  • The Hospitality Industry Course: This course provides students with a broad overview of the travel industry. Coursework typically includes the history of the hospitality industry, the influence of food and beverage services, sales and reservations technologies and branding.

Located closer to Cuba than to Miami, Key West is Florida’s irreverent southernmost subtropical paradise, a unique confluence of history, climate, natural beauty, cultural diversity, architecture and unabashed romantic appeal.

Palm-lined streets with gingerbread mansions and tin-roofed conch houses were home to Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Elizabeth Bishop, Robert Frost and Jimmy Buffett, a few of the famous people who discovered solace and inspiration in the island city whose Bahamian and Cuban heritage in large part was inspired by Bahamian wreckers, commercial fishermen, spongers and Cuban cigar makers.

ONE HUMAN FAMILY is the official philosophy of the modern island community of Key West and the Florida Keys; a simple warm-hearted motto that is a shining example of a vibrant gay and lesbian community. and one that is openly shared with global neighbors.

African cultural heritage is celebrated in the historic churches, indigenous food and annual festivals held in the Bahama Village neighborhood, founded in the early 1800s by Africans migrating from the Bahamas, and frequented by Ernest Hemingway during the 1930s to watch boxing matches.

Significant cultural sites include an 1860 African Burial Ground, located on the island’s Atlantic Ocean shore beside a Civil War-era fort, believed by experts to be America’s only African refugee cemetery.

Most popular online booking sites for travelers

Skift.com is starting a new monthly feature on top trafficked sites in various sectors in travel, using data from SimilarWeb. “We have found SimilarWeb’s traffic stats to be the most reliable barometer of consumer web activity, easily besting other comparison sites like Quantcast, Compete, Alexa, and others,” says Skift.

The series starts by first looking at global traffic to the top 25 online booking sites.

The usual suspects are there, of course, but the biggest thing you notice is Booking.com is the king of online travel, in all possible ways, and still has a large runway to grow in the United States.

Priceline Group’s other sites Agoda.com (focused on Asia), Priceline.com. and Kayak.com add to the heft, all coming in the top 10 ranks themselves.

TripAdvisor. between its various country sites, is the second biggest, and shows the potential in building its own direct hotel booking business. Hotelurbano.com is the newest site on the block, with a huge Brazilian audience, but the worst engagement statistics of all the top 25.

Indian site Maketmytrip.com rules the roost in Indian online booking space, while Ctrip and Qunar rule in China.

A few Japanese sites break into the global ranks, and the home sharing site Airbnb sneaks in the top 25, with one of the highest engagement metrics out of all (likely thanks to its great modern design).

For the full list of 25 online booking sites, see the Skift article .

The 8s are slightly further up the food chain than the 6s, but there are good and bad examples of both. Tripadvisor is your friend. Impossible to generalize about rates however as each hotel’s location will drive cost, as will demand on the night(s) you stay.

Others to consider that are in the same bracket would be Red Roof Inn, Econolodge and there are probably others. Consistency of quality control is very poor in these chains so your experiences will vary a lot from one to another.

At the rest stops, there are usually motel books with coupons. Sometimes you can get some Hampton or Fairields for 59 bucks plus tax. Nice hot tubs and breakfast.

If you are planning on doing some sight seeing and can plan, try Priceline and or Hotwire. I booked the Doubletree Hotel in PA in July for $65 a night and the Westin in Arlington for 113. You can usually get Holiday Inn for 50 bucks (start at 35 in remote places). But you must plan and you must arrive on a certain date. If you bring a laptop, you can stop by wireless gas stations or rest stops and try to book ahead of yourself. These hotels are MUCH nicer than the Motel 8, but require some planning.

Another cheapo way to go is to use the KOA cabins. It all depends on how much you want to see and do on your trip. Might as well see some stuff. The National Parks in Southern Utah, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Devils Tower, Rushmore, Crazy Horse are all pretty cool.

The Best Canadian Credit Card With Travel Rewards

Is a weaker Canadian dollar clipping travellers’ wings? Would-be vacationers could find themselves paying 30 per cent more for their warm-weather getaways this year. As the Loonie hovers around US$0.75, three-quarters admit the weak currency has impacted their trip plans.

But cash-strapped travelers needn’t settle for a staycation, as a number of travel rewards credit cards can effectively offset travel costs.

However, using plastic to fund a vacation can be a point of confusion. While there are a number of fantastic travel offers available in today’s market, many Canadians aren’t aware of travel rewards best practices, and there continue to be misconceptions around the true value of rewards, and how to effectively earn and redeem them.

To help Canadians take flight faster, RateSupermarket.ca has revealed the Guide to Flying for Free – How to Cash in Travel Rewards Credit Card Points. The guide provides clarity on choosing the right card, and insight to the value offered by popular rewards programs.

Tips for Using a Travel Rewards Credit Card

Seek out the perfect plastic. There is a wide variety of travel rewards programs to choose from and each offers a different earning and redemption structure. It’s important to determine whether a card’s earning potential can be maximized based on your specific spending habits — for example, gas and grocery purchases, or earning on all spending.

Heed the fee.
Travel rewards cards are often packed with additional insurance, concierge and lounge benefits — and that means the majority charge an annual fee. Look for cards that waive this charge for a limited promotional period, and determine whether your annual earnings offset the fee amount. For those who are fee adverse, a non-fee card with a lower earning threshold can be a better fit.

Ask about redemption.
Those points won’t do much good if they’re grounded during your desired departure season. Seat capacity, seasonal, and minimum redemption restrictions are common pitfalls vacationers should be aware of. For the greatest flexibility, look for cards that allow points to be redeemed directly on travel purchases charged on the card.

Cover yourself.
Many travel cards come with built-in insurance benefits — but you shouldn’t assume you’re covered. At a bare minimum, ensure you have sufficient travel medical and accident insurance for yourself, spouse and any dependents travelling with you. Add-ons like trip interruption, delay and cancellation coverage can provide greater peace of mind on your journey.

Everything You Need To Know About Rental Car Insurance

Renting a car? Buying the over-the-counter insurance that rental car companies sell could be the dumbest move you’ve made all day. That is, unless it’s the smartest.

The question is, are you covered? Too many travelers have no idea, and it’s in that cone of uncertainty that the rental car companies are able to pounce and profit.

If you don’t know, for example, what your liability coverage your own auto insurance policy provides, or whether or not your credit card is any use in times of rental car trouble, then why, the agent will be asking you, would you want to drive off the lot without peace of mind? Why indeed.

Trouble is, peace of mind doesn’t come cheap. Think hundreds of dollars added to your weekly rental costs, which are already skyrocketing, as competition goes all but extinct in the more-consolidated-than-ever rental car industry. It’s war, and you’ve got to be ready to do battle. We’re here to help.

Are you the owner of a car?

Yes? Great. Then you probably have an insurance policy. You’ll say this to the guy behind the counter. He’ll counter with: Do you know if your coverage is adequate? Are you going to be stuck with a huge deductible? They’ll throw it all at you. And if you can’t answer the questions confidently, suddenly, you’ll be wondering: Hey! Maybe I should be buying the insurance here, because, really, what if something happens and I’m not covered? Stop. Stop it right now. Before you leave home, examine your policy documents or call your insurance provider and ask. Questions like: Am I covered for damage, theft and loss of use? Liability for injury to others (personal and property) while in the rental car? Personal effects if stolen or damaged? How screwed am I, as regards deductibles and such, if I find myself in any trouble related to the above? You should know the answers to all of these questions.

Coverage through your credit card? Maybe. Probably not.

Too many people think that their auto insurance policy plus their credit card coverage benefits equals all set. Again – maybe you are, maybe you’re not. Have you read the documents? Too many renters learn the hard way that what most cards provide is “secondary” coverage, meant only to bulk up your auto insurance policy, paying out after that has been exhausted. Your Visa card, for example, can be a great asset, but if you don’t follow all their rules (the coverage may be invalid if you rent a mid-size car in Cincinnati on a Tuesday when it’s raining), the very thing you think is going to keep you out of trouble might end up leaving you in a world of hurt. Across the board, it’s wrong (really, really wrong) to assume that one size of coverage fits all card brands. Some higher-end Mastercards might be great, for example. Others card levels may offer little protection. Examine each card document carefully. Finally, note that credit cards tend to mostly offer collision, damage and theft coverage, if they offer anything at all – personal liability (hitting a pedestrian, crashing into a store front, or injuring drivers in another car) and personal effects are generally your problem. Again: Read.

So you’ve got nothing.

Say you go over both your auto insurance policy and your credit card documents, hundreds of time. Say you now fully accept that rental car-wise, you’re less than protected. Don’t just wing it – winging it can lead to all kinds of trouble, such as you being stuck with a bill for thousands of dollars or a huge jury award. Besides upgrading your credit card to something more useful and bulking up on your auto insurance you can also sign up for primary coverage with a third party (but again, this will only be coverage for damage to the rental car, it’s not personal liability coverage).

What is this “primary coverage with a third party?”

Simply: It is a separate policy that protects you when you rent cars. Maybe you are protected with your credit card and your auto insurance policy, but if you get into an accident and have primary coverage elsewhere, you can leave your insurer out of the loop entirely, avoiding any potential rate increases. American Express cardholders can purchase a Premium Rental Car Protection policy for less than the cost of one day’s damage waiver in many destinations. For $24.95 per rental period of up to 42 days — $17.95 if you live in California – you’ve got $100,000 in coverage for damage and theft, plus $100,000 of Accidental Death or Dismemberment coverage, $15,000 for excess medical expenses and up to $5,000 for personal property loss. The real deal here? No deductible. Nada. It’s a good policy. Best of all, it kicks in automatically when you begin your rental using that card. When you do, you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to stop agents in their tracks – most know about the policy. Tell them you’ve got it and they’ll generally understand that they’re dealing with someone who has come prepared.

But what about other liability?

As long as any accidents involve just you and, say, a lamppost, you’re now well and truly protected. Bump into a billionaire in a supermarket parking lot, however, and you may not be adequately protected, liability-wise. Many drivers lack the proper liability protection, often assuming that that they’re safe, hiding behind their homeowners or renters policies. More than once, after hearing about all the coverage we’ve got, the rental car agent has asked the question, “What about liability?” While rental car companies are required to build basic (and limited) liability protection into their rates, they won’t tell you this. Generally, you’re going to be fine in a fender bender situation, but if you find yourself in some horrible scenario where you can be sued for lots of money, then make sure you are covered (if you’re a high net worth individual, you probably have an umbrella liability policy, which should be enough, but check with your agent). For those that are not covered, the agent will be happy to sell you Supplemental Liability Protection, often quite reasonably priced at about $10 per day. Then again, liability protection isn’t something you should be sorting out on the fly with some kid at the Enterprise counter – this is a matter for your insurance broker.

If you need any help comparison shopping, read our frequently asked questions below:

Why should I get a travel rewards credit card?

If you love to travel, and use your credit card to pay for all of your everyday purchases, a travel rewards credit card is one of the easiest ways to save on travel-related expenses. Based on the card you choose, you will earn a certain number of travel points for every dollar spent on the card. These points can then be redeemed for anything from flights, hotel stays, bus and ferry fares, taxi fares, ski rentals, baggage charges, airport parking and more.

The other bonus of a travel rewards credit card is the different insurance policies that may come with it. When you use your card to book your trip, or redeem points towards the trip or service, some of the best travel rewards credit cards can also include complimentary travel medical insurance, trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance, flight delay and baggage coverage, and collision and damage insurance for rental cars.

How can I redeem the travel points I collect?

Depending on the travel rewards program attached to your card, your travel points can be redeemed either by exchanging your points or miles for a certain dollar value of your travel expense, or by using the points or miles directly to make the purchase.

One thing to consider: When you’re redeeming your travel points, booking well in advance of your travel date is recommended, as prices will typically be lower and there will be more availability. It’s also important to keep in mind that some travel rewards credit cards charge a booking fee, taxes or fuel surcharges, when you redeem points. It’s worth comparing the fine print of any card that you’re considering getting, in order to see how the points are valued, how they’re redeemed and what restrictions apply.

How can I compare the best travel rewards programs?

When you’re doing your research and comparing travel rewards credit cards, it’s important to understand how each card values its points. Every rewards program in Canada is different, so you should read the card agreement for guidelines and restrictions – or you can compare them on our site, as we’ve done the hard work for you on our rewards charts. There may also be a number of different cards available within each program – try using our rewards calculators to find the one which suits you best.

Do I Need a Hong Kong Visa?

Many people ask do I need a visa for Hong Kong? as they are confused about the difference between Hong Kong and China. The Hong Kong visa system is almost exactly the same as under British rule ten years ago, and wholly separate to the Chinese visa system.

Hong Kong treasures its place as an international hub of business, and top tourist destination. As such, it strives to make visa regulations as relaxed and simple as possible.

Nationals of the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand don’t require a visa to enter Hong Kong for stays of 90 days, and six months for UK nationals. You will need six months validity on your passport. For a list of requirements for all countries see the Hong Kong Immigration Department website .

Immigration officials in HK all speak English and the whole process is designed to be as painless as possible, which it is. You will need to fill out an entry card on arrival, usually handed out on the plane. The entry card is given to immigration control, who will hand you back the carbon copy. This should be kept until you leave Hong Kong, as it needs to be given to immigration control, although if lost, you will simply need to fill out a new one.

Hong Kong officially states that you need a return ticket to visit the city, although in practice this is almost never enforced. Stating your intention to travel onwards to China is proof enough.

Although we certainly don’t advocate evading immigration controls for work purpose, if you need more than ninety days in the city, you can easily leave to Macau for the day and receive a further ninety days on your return.

If you plan to work or study in the city, you ll need to apply for a visa from your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate at the Hong Kong section.

Bendigo Tourism

A guide to activities, attractions, services, and events presented by the Bendigo Visitor Centre

Bendigo is Victoria’s fourth largest city, located around 150 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.

Bendigo has a rich and prosperous heritage dating back to the days when gold was discovered in the area in the 1850s. Since then, Bendigo has been the second highest producing goldfield in Australia and remains the seventh largest in the world.

Bendigo’s rich gold history has produced a city of unparalleled opulence and grandeur. Stunning architecture and manicured gardens are all symbolic of Bendigo.

One of Bendigo’s most elegant streets is Pall Mall in the city centre. At its southern end stands the grand Alexandra Fountain which was built in 1881 out of granite. Further along Pall Mall is the elaborate old post office (built between 1883 and 1887) which now houses the Bendigo Visitor Information Centre, and next door are the law courts (built between 1892 and 1896), also of similar architecture. On the corner of Pall Mall and Williamson Street is Bendigo’s most famous hotel, the lavishly adorned Shamrock, which was built in 1897.

Bendigo’s shopping precinct extends along Pall Mall, Hargreaves Street (including the Hargreaves Mall), Queen Street, Williamson Street and tree-lined Mitchell Street.

Attractions for visitors include the Central Deborah Mine complex which offers underground mine tours and the Talking Tram which takes passengers on an almost 5 kilometre journey passing many of the city’s attractions. Rosalind Park, in the city’s centre, features a lookout tower offering impressive views across Bendigo, while Bendigo’s Sacred Heart Cathedral, built in 1896, is the largest Gothic cathedral in the southern hemisphere. Other attractions include several art galleries and the Golden Dragon Museum which is a tribute to the city’s long history with Chinese people and culture.

Bendigo city is situated in a fertile valley, surrounded by a number of hilly suburbs featuring wide tree-lined streets, bushland, and a several large reserves, creating a pleasant and green environment for residents and visitors. In fact, with natural bushland entirely surrounding Bendigo, it has been referred to as “a city within a forest”. A number of lakes and reservoirs are located within the city, including the most central, Lake Weeroona, which features gardens and parkland.

An interesting suburb of Bendigo is Eaglehawk, located in the north-west. Originally a gold mining town in its own right during the Gold Rush days, the growth of Bendigo eventually extended out to and surrounded Eaglehawk. Historic landmarks in Eaglehawk include the opulent town hall (built in 1901), the red-brick courthouse (1869) and the old Bank of Victoria (1881). Canterbury Park, once a barren ruin of alluvial gold workings, has been transformed into botanical gardens and recreational facilities overlooking picturesque Lake Neangar.

Bendigo was the city in which penniless Russian immigrant Sidney Myer opened the first Myer store in 1900. Today, Myer department stores can be found throughout Australia’s capital cities and regional centres.

10 Best Hotel Websites

If you are looking for a place to stay on your vacation or business trip the options on offer can be overwhelming. A hotel search tool allows you to instantly search and compare room availability and prices from sites like Expedia, Hotels.com, Venere, Laterooms, Agoda (and many more) all in one single set of search results. You could never cover the vast choice of hotel booking sites yourself, and so would more than likely miss out on the best deals. A great way to save time and money .

However, if you’re looking for a specific travel deal (hotel + flight for example) or a different type of accommodation (hostel or vacation rental) the following 10 best hotel websites have proven the most consistently useful for finding accommodation when traveling.

The catch: Priceline doesn t tell you the exact hotel you re booking until after you pay, so you won’t be sure exactly where you’ll end up.

TripAdvisor.com – the most popular hotel review site on the web, They offer more than 45 million reviews of hotels around the globe. But you can find patterns in the comments that focus on quality, cleanliness and safety worldwide.
