Trinity: The Short Story

Trinity is a privately-owned restaurant situated in Clapham Old Town. When we started out, way back in 2006, our self-set mission was to serve great food. It had to be seasonal, inspirational and, above all, delicious.

Our priorities have not changed one single bit. We aim continuously to provide our guests with a memorable gastronomic experience.

We are pleased to be able to say that our food has won awards and our service and attention to detail has been well recognised. And we shall strive to please our guests for many years to come.

In 2015 we underwent a large refurbishment in order that we remain up to date and able to deliver on our guests expectations for years to come. Our approach, team and values remain the same, if anything our dishes are now simpler and more refined. We also created an additional restaurant space situated and aptly named ‘Upstairs’ a casual dining space to complement Trinity that is well suited for private functions and larger groups.

We very much look forward to sharing our food and hospitality with you

Hospice Care

Hospice is not a place but rather a way of caring that brings comfort to people at the end of life and offers support and understanding to their families. Hospice Care helps people with life-limiting illnesses remain pain-free, nourished by the support of their loved ones.

Hospice provides patients with emotional and spiritual support and focuses on improving the patient s quality of life. Hospice care is most commonly provided in the home but can also be provided in nursing homes or senior living facilities.

Our team can work in conjunction with the patient s physician to develop a care plan that focuses on the needs of the patient.

We are here to help you in this journey. Contact a Trinity H ealth At Home Hospice agency to find out more.

Hospice Team

Each one of our patients is cared for by an interdisciplinary team of hospice professionals, ranging from hospice physicians and Nurse Practitioners to social workers and spiritual care. Together, these team members collaborate to provide the best possible hospice care to you and your loved ones.

Physician Services
The Hospice Physician complements the services of the attending physician and intervenes to meet the general medical needs of patients and families. Hospice can work collaboratively with the physician of the patient’s choosing.

Nursing Services
The RN Case Manager coordinates the patient s care and services provided by the hospice team. The hospice nurse works to ensure symptom control and pain management.

Hospice Home Health Aide
The Hospice Home Health Aide provides personal care under the supervision of the RN Case Manager. This care includes assistance with bathing and grooming.

Social Worker
The Social Worker provides psychological and emotional assessment of the needs of the patient and family. The Social Worker provides Hospice patients and families with information and community resources.

Spiritual Care
Spiritual Care Coordinators are available to help our patients and family members connect to their faith tradition. Spiritual Care resources can help people return a sense of balance in their lives.

Bereavement
Bereavement provides support, guidance, and education through a variety of programs.

Volunteers
Hospice Volunteers provide assistance and support to our Hospice programs. They are an important part of the team.

Other services provided as needed:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Dietary Counseling

Brian House Children s Hospice

Brian House is our specialist unit within Trinity Hospice specialising in palliative care for children. It is a fully equipped children’s hospice, not a holiday centre, and caters entirely for children who live on Fylde Coast. As one of only a handful of local children’s hospices in the UK it currently supports over 80 families.

We opened Brian House in December 1996 to provide a specialist children’s service under the umbrella of Trinity. We provide care and a ‘home from home’ environment for children and young adults from within the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas who have life threatening and/or life limiting conditions.

Brian House meets complex needs, providing support for the family and care for children who will not be cured of their illness. Our respite care, which we provide at regular intervals, gives families the opportunity to experience times of relief and normality. When a child’s life is limited it puts enormous pressure on every member of the family as they try to cope with the emotional, practical and financial implications. It can be really hard for brothers and sisters too, so for all the family, Brian House is a support mechanism.

It s an amazing place. The kitchen is a hive of activity and with its sweet shop colour theme and giant marshmallow decorations looks good enough to eat! Each of our four bedrooms has a theme, with one specially designed for our teenagers. The lounge areas are spacious enough for group music therapy, and for informal play and relaxation.

Our sensory room and corridor are an adventure of colour, light and sounds. Enter the craft room at your own risk: you’ll probably leave covered in paint and glitter!

Brian House is here when families need us most, and sometimes relationships develop over many years, enabling us to take huge delight in watching our children grow.

Care is provided free of charge to children who need it, but it costs over £1 million a year to run Brian House and we get only a small amount of money from the Government. That’s why the generosity of people on the Fylde Coast is vital. Without voluntary donations Brian House could not be here for the families who need us, and without Brian House, where would they turn?

    Trinity Hospice Blackpool

The mission statement of Trinity Hospice is: “Compassionate care on the journey to the end of life.” Recognising that this journey is challenging and unique for every individual the Directors and Board of Trustees identified an opportunity to facilitate conversations with patients and carers through the use of commissioned bespoke artwork to be hung in their ecumenical and interfaith Hospice Chapel in 2010. The aim was to create a space that enabled people to reflect, acknowledge and if needed express their complex emotions using the paintings as prompts.

To try and devise a series of large paintings in this chapel, which would help those who seek refuge with in it, was a difficult and demanding artistic challenge. In approaching this commission I asked the following questions. What do the staff and carers do in this hospice? What are the patients and loved ones feeling and thinking? What is it to be a human being?
I decided to choose the theme of The Dance, inspired by the well-known hymn Lord of the Dance. Each of the oil paintings was of a dancing figure in different poses. All seven paintings reflect different aspects of the experience of living with, or caring for someone with a life limiting illness. A leaflet of reflections is provided that people can use if they wish to help them interpret the paintings. The images can be seen on the BBC website.

I am Rev David Shaw the hospice chaplain At Trinity in the Fylde. I would simply like to say that I think the paintings in our chapel are beautiful, inspired, powerful, and a very valuable addition to the spiritual life of the hospice. As the future unfolds they will I am sure be an inspiration to many patients and staff.

Thank you for your work.Every Blessing. David

We had the great joy 2 days ago of seeing your paintings in the chapel at Trinity Hospice. We both found them overwhelmingly beautiful and moving, and so full of inspiration and hope.
During the last year I have been diagnosed and treated for cancer. I only wish the paintings had been in place throughout the year. We ve both been in the same place as Lost at the low times.Thank God we ve also known some of the uplift and joy of the journey you depict; mainly through the love and support of friends and the marvellous people who staff the hospital and the hospice services.
In all we ve read and all that has been said to us this year, nothing has encapsulated so well as The Dance the message of hope we ve needed, and still need, to experience.
Thank you from both of us. Brian Anne Robbins

A letter in the local paper. April 2010
I would like to let you know how I feel about the pictures on the walls in Trinity Hospice.Today is a very sad day, for 13 years ago I lost my much-loved mum. She was 57 and her life was cut short. On this day every year I take that dreaded journey down to the hospice to see my mum s name Glenis Johnson in the book of remembrance. My mother entered the hospice five times and came home, but sadly the last time her battle was lost.
As I sat in the chapel today, thinking about the room around the corner that my mum took her last breath in, I looked upon the walls and couldn t believe the story the pictures told.
The artist Penny Warden has certainly put into pictures the journey of cancer, how it makes you feel, what battles you face, how each day is precious, how you cope and how you protect the ones closest to you.
I could have sat there all day, taking in the images and putting my journey with cancer to each and every painting.
It s already beautiful and peaceful at the hospice, but today I left there with a greater understanding. So thank you to the hospice, thank you to Penny Warden, and thank you to my beautiful mum, who I miss every second of the day.

One patient who was in the last few days of his life chose to go to the chapel every afternoon to sit with his family and the paintings because he felt they spoke to him of his own journey. His wife comments, “For those few hours he comes alive and finds a peace he does not find anywhere else”

Please can you spread the word about what a wonderful experience I had to others, who may just want a place to go and sit, and work out where their journey starts and ends.

Penny Warden is a unique and truly original contemporary British artist, known for her distinctive, expressive style. Influenced by ‘action painting’ she paints with maximum spontaneity and energetic expression. Her figurative paintings are created in a radical and exciting way, with vibrant colours splashed and thrown in an arbitrary, though deliberate manner. The resulting figures are full of movement, emotion and drama. Penny s work has appeared in many high-profile locations and galleries across London and the UK. Her public commissions can be seen on the BBC website.
