    Clare Valley Motel, Clare

    Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We have been travelling around Sth Aus with friends. After various types of accommodation this was given top points. The room was excellent, the laundry good. the only downfall there is only one washing machine and one dryer and as we all had heaps of washing we monopolised the laundry when others needed it. Food and presentation was excellent. More

Dear Traveller We appreciate your review and thanks for the ‘top points’. We have only just installed our guest laundry this week – with brand new washer and dryer and newly built laundry room. We have been amazed at the great response. If we find that we continually need another machine, we will then remedy that problem – but glad. More

On seeing this motel I thought it would be out of our price range. Pleasantly surprised. Staff very friendly. Room was so comfortable and spacious. The restaurant has around 10 tables so we needed to book a time. Waitress was fantastic, making everyone feel at home. Chatting to all but not intruding in any way. Our meals were so lovely. More

Dear Guest We like to provide our guests with great facilities and great service – all at a reasonable price. I agree, our little motel, does give a great first impression – I hope this doesn’t detract too many potential guests, thinking we are too expensive! More

Lehigh Valley Hospital hospice nurse takes caring to the next level

Jeanne Vogt, director of hospice care at Lehigh Valley Hospital. tells her new hires nursing goes beyond what you learn in school.

“What we look for is the heart in nurses for hospice care,” Vogt said.

    Consider Lisa Bickel.

A hospice nurse for 28 years, Bickel was nominated by Vogt for an excellence in nursing award for the way she handled a patient’s final moments about a year ago at the 17th Street Allentown facility.

The Berks County woman was caring for a terminally ill woman who had three young children and very little time left.

“(The children) were on the unit, but we didn’t want them in the room when she actually died,” Bickel said.

Instead, Bickel and the patient’s sister picked out three stuffed teddy bears. Before giving them to the young children as gifts, Bickel placed the three bears in the arms of their mother, who would pass away that night.

“I kept the teddy bears as close to her heart as I could and told the kids that they were close to her heart all night, and that she’d always be a part of them,” Bickel said. “It’s something they could have the rest of their lives.”

It was the sort of caring gesture Vogt had come to expect from Bickel in their three years of working together. It’s what helped her win the Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Dr. Fred Fister Award for Excellence in Hospice Nursing. She received the award at a ceremony last month.

“Lisa works night shifts and usually when you have night-shift nurses they don’t get to be as much of a part of the team,” Vogt said. “But she’s just so phenomenal because she has created such an incredible team spirit.”

Vogt said her nomination for Bickel went beyond her gesture for the patient’s children and was meant to also acknowledge the “little things” Bickel does for the hospice.

“We’ve had employees go through hardships, and Lisa is the one who puts out emails to get everyone together, make them aware and (organize help),” Vogt said.

Bickel also regularly places inspirational messages in the break room for her co-workers to read during the day, Vogt said.

For Bickel, the award reflects a belief she’s developed in her three decades of work.

“Our society looks at death as something feared and something awful, but it really can be quite peaceful and be another passage,” Bickel said.

Bickel said she and her team look to make patients and their loved ones as comfortable as possible and to give them the opportunity to have special moments near the end of loved ones’ lives.

    Bickel’s award reflects her compassion.

“What nurses will find out is that it’s truly a gift to be able to be at the bedside with a patient and their family,” Vogt said. “It’s a true expression for the labor of love and the emotion it creates. Lisa embodies that emotion.”

While Woodland Hills Private School is open to all students and not exclusively for gifted, talented and high achieving students, many families choose WHPS for the advanced and enriched academic program. Over the past few years, with the adoption of cutting-edge curriculum and enhanced teacher training, we have found new ways to help our high-achieving students reach new heights.

To that end, we were pleased this week to receive our students’ ERB results from the spring. This assessment compares our students to peers in private and independent schools across the country, and unlike the test children take in California public schools, the ERB uses a constructed response section to look at students’ thinking, not just multiple choice questions. Thus, it assesses critical thinking at a much deeper level.

Here are the results from this year’s graduating class:

    LOGICAL THINKING: QUANTITATIVE REASONING, MATHEMATICS

    • 60% of our students scored in the 8thstanine, which means they were in the top 11% of students who tested nationally .
    • 87% of our students scored in the 7th stanine, which means they were in the top 23% of students who tested nationally .

    LITERACY: READING, WRITING, VERBAL REASONING

    • 53% of our students scored in the 8th stanine, which means they were in the top 11% of students who tested nationally .
    • 73% of our students scored in the 7th stanine. which means they were in the top 23% of students who tested nationally.

Parents in grades 3-5 will be receiving their child’s individual ERB score report via email this week. Please watch for this email and don’t hesitate to contact the school office if you have any questions.

Welcome to Continental Elementary School District No. 39

Continental School District No. 39, home of the Continental Colts, has served families in the Green Valley area since 1916. Continental School’s name came from the Intercontinental Rubber Company, established in the area at the request of President Woodrow Wilson, during World War I. Our unique location, at the base of Madera Canyon, offers unobstructed views of the truly unique desert landscape. The district has always been committed to educational excellence and celebrated its 100th year in 2016.

Green Valley was established as a retirement community in the 1960’s and now boasts a thriving population of over 21,000 people. While Green Valley is still predominately a retirement community, there are approximately 200 families whose children attend Continental School. Our school and the community work hand in hand for the betterment of the community and the students at Continental. Our students benefit from the experiences of a wide range of community and parent volunteers who actively assist with a variety of clubs, special programs, after-school sports, and activities. This special bond between our students and our many volunteers make our district a truly unique place to be.

Mountain Valley Hospice Gets $1 Million Donation

YADKINVILLE, N.C. — Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care in Dobson, received a $1 million donation from State Employee’s Credit Union on Wednesday.

A contribution that’s making a second hospice home in neighboring Yadkin County possible.

Volunteers at the Dobson location, believe the new facility is going to come with big benefits.

It’s something that we realize in some point in our lives we’re all going to do and if you can make it easier some way for them that’s what the hospice home does, said volunteer Thelma Wilson.

When Wilson’s husband passed away, she said there was nothing like hospice in the rural area around Pilot Mountain. It’s why she’s now a volunteer at Mountain Valley.

Nobody wants to leave home, but a lot of people don’t want to die at home and this is the perfect place away from home, said Wilson.

Through a partnership with State Employee’s Credit Union, the organization can now help more people and their families.

We are going to use things that we learned such as storage, patient comfort, common areas for patients, said Mountain Valley Hospice Executive Director Denise Watson. We want to make sure that they’re comfortable and we want to make sure they have everything they need.

The current home has 20 beds and sits on 13 acres. The new hospice home will be smaller, but Watson said it’ll keep the focus on a family-oriented environment.

It will have six patient suites with outdoor patios, a family room with a kitchen where they can cook a meal, a dining area, a children’s play area a teen room, and lots of common areas where the family can spread out and enjoy being together and home like, said Watson.

The credit union making this possible said it’s the company’s mission to give back.

McKinley Wooten, Jr. the chairman of the SECU Foundation said the Yadkinville Hospice Home makes their 13th across the state. He said the company donates to the entire state, even rural areas like Yadkin County.

Watson said they’re really looking to improve the quality of life, not necessarily the quantity.

I have had people ask me, ‘How can you do it?’ And I say, ‘How can I not?’ said Wilson.

Yadkinville’s Hospice Home will serve Wilkes, Davie, and Western Forsyth Counties. Planners hope to start building by Fall.

Dentistry is a unique blend of art, science and compassion, and I find it tremendously rewarding. My favorite part of dentistry is meeting someone who has had an unpleasant dental past and pampering them in our office. We open their eyes to a different world of dentistry, one based on comfort, beauty and trust, and I know we’ve done things right when I get a hug at the end of a visit

    Dr. Foulk

I grew up in Vacaville, California until age 11 when my family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. My father is an orthodontist, so I became interested in dentistry by watching and working with him. It’s extremely satisfying to help a patient who has dental needs to gain a functional and beautiful smile. In orthodontics, I saw many children and teenagers whose self-confidence greatly increased when their treatment was completed. This gave me the desire to pursue dentistry as a career

Four of us ate there this evening, trying out the new menu. Definitely the best place to eat in Clare. Choices great, service great and brilliant chef. Reviewed 10 January 2012

We stayed here for two nights as part of a longer trip. I wanted to visit some Clare Valley wineries and this motel is in a very handy position just south of the town. We booked a Valley View King Spa room which was spacious, comfortable and clean.

The motel is located well back from the road on a huge area of land and is well away from the traffic and quiet. There is a pool and BBQ area in front of the motel and guests were enjoying a meal or a swim there when we arrived. This gave the motel a good friendly atmosphere even before we checked in.

We ate both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant and would recommend the food, service and selection of local wines.

The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We received a friendly welcome at checkin, and good travel advice when we departed.

The only negative points were plumbing issues – we had a bit of trouble operating the spa. Also the bathroom water temperature seemed to vary a lot if other rooms were using hot water, making my morning shower a bit less than ideal. But these are very small issues as part of an overwhelmingly positive experience. I would certainly stay here again next time I visit the area.

More

    PEX REPIPE SPECIALIST

Uponor Pex Repipe – The World’s First, Best, And Most Widely Used System For Single Family Homes And Residential Units.

    What is PEX?

PEX is an acronym for crosslinked polyethylene. It is a flexible, durable, proven piping product that has been used in plumbing systems for more than 20 years. PEX tubing won’t pit, scale or corrode and, because of its flexibility, it also offers potential freeze-damage protection.

Residential Commercial Pex Plumbing. Call Toll Free 877-473-7473

Uponor Pex plumbing systems feature PEX-a tubing, which is considered the superior PEX tubing manufacturing method in the industry. PEX-a is the most flexible of all PEX types, and because of its shape and thermal memory, it can use ProPEX expansion fittings which are the only fitting system that actually gets stronger over time – making it highly leak resistant.

    1) Repiping in a home begins at the transition point.

    2) The transition point is the point where the potable water system enters the building from the exterior of the building.

    3) Repiping a potable water system means you totally abandon the existing potable system and replace it with a new system.

    4) The first step in repiping your home is masking or “covering” the floors, and this must be completed before the walls are masked off. This overlap “ enveloped ” system allows the plastic sheeting to be rolled up in one continuous motion.

    5) Cutting the sheetrock: You will be shocked at how little sheetrock has to be removed for the layout and installation of a new potable water system. A real Pex Plumber is an expert at HVAC, framing, plumbing, and electrical layout, and will lay out the home pex repipe in the most effective route. The better the repiper. the smaller and fewer the drywall holes!

    6) A “GREEN REPIPE” potable water system refers to a Pex repipe potable system only – such as UPONOR or ZURN with corrosion resistant fittings. CPVC and copper systems are not green systems.

    7) The drywall pieces that are removed must be used in the patching process as each texture is a little different in thickness. This gives you a uniform surface thickness as you start the repair process. Each piece goes back in the hole it came from.

    8) Repipe with an approved material. There are currently three main materials used in pex repiping jobs across the US: copper pipe and fittings, CPVC pipe and fittings, and PEX repipe and fittings. (DO NOT USE CPVC, IT IS THE NEXT POLYBUTYLENE)

    9) Repipe inspections must be performed by the local building inspectors after the repipe is completed, with the system under full water pressure.

    10) The signed inspection card must be given to the homeowner after the PEX repipe inspection is completed.

    11) Drywall repair begins after all the necessary backing has been installed. Backing supports the drywall pieces that were removed to access the potable water pipes and accommodate the repiping of a new Pex repipe or copper potable water system.

    12) The fiberglass mesh tape must be used 100% of the time.

    13) The patches must be pre-filled with quick set patching compound. The compound comes in 18lb bags, and because it is a powder, it must be mixed with water. This locks the perimeter of each patch and will make the area of the patch stronger than it was before the work process began. The reason this is important is that when you close the doors in the house, the walls flex just a little bit, and if you do not perform this method of repair, the patch will fracture over time from the flex/vibration caused by shutting the doors.

    14) Do not coat the drywall patches with regular all-purpose joint compound on the repipe patches. This is a common practice and the patches will crack later 100% of the time, even if it’s years later.

    15) Coat all the repipe drywall patches with quick set patching compound only. USG will do and you can find it at any home and hardware store, or you will have fractures in the walls at the patch locations.

    16) Float all the walls with quick set patching compound and use a 12″ drywall knife and stagger each coat until the walls become smooth and flat. The next step is wet sanding the patches and this must be done if you want the patches to blend in perfectly after the texture is applied. The reason you’ve seen bad patches in the past is that repairmen do not know how to “kill the edges.” This is an old drywall term that means you must do the detail wet sanding work and there is no short cut.

    17) Texture to match the existing texture, and this is not as easy as you might think. This is a real art form for the few that know what they are doing. Also, if the texture is spray texture, you must sponge off the overspray for the texture to match. Nothing gives away the location of a patch more than overspray that is painted over and not “killing the edges.”

    18) Paint to match the existing paint. All repipe companies color match the same way. They run down to their local hardware store and have the computer color matching done by the man behind the counter. This is beginner color matching. The proper way to color match is hand color matching. First, match the paint sheen. Second, computer match for the base color. Third, tint for color adjustment. Fourth, match the color and sheen after the paint sample has dried. Repeat if necessary. Did you know that the paint color on the wall after it dries will be different than the paint color while it is wet and in the can?

    19) If you follow the basic repiping rules, after a very short time you will not be able to point out all the drywall patches from the repair. You will simply forget where the holes were due to the patches receiving the proper floating, texture and painting techniques. Your friends, neighbors, relatives, and even plumbing contractors will not be able to find the patches.

    20) This is a basic guideline for a home repipe. and if done, properly you will have a repipe that was done as well as a repipe can be done.

At Integrity Repipe. we provide total abandonment of your existing potable system, and there are never hidden extras, and we don’t hire subcontractors. You’ll receive nothing but the finest, most complete and professional job in the industry. The scope will be for a lead-free and yellow brass -free potable “GREEN SYSTEM” with a full lifetime warranty that covers material and labor.

During the time when my grandmother took sick. I use to go and see her every day and I took notice of all these people that need care and attention that was not getting it. As time went along and my grandmother passed I still found myself going to the nursing homes helping out any way I can. That s when I knew that this was the career I wanted. My heart hurts seeing and hearing all the people that need help. I love my career, I love to see the smiles on the faces of those that I help. I m compassionate and sincere to all that I help. I wish I could split myself up into a million pieces and help all that is not getting it. I proud of what I do and I hope that I can share it with you.

I chose to become a caregiver 13 years ago. I chose this line of work after helping take care of my grandfather. There is honestly no profession that is more rewarding than being a caregiver. To make a difference in someone s life, even for just a few hours isa great feeling. Seeing clients/residents smile when you enter the room is a rewarding. I enjoy listening to the stories about their life. I have worked the mentally challenged, dementia patients, and stroke patients. Having patience, and being a good listener, are the best qualities of a good caregiver.

This hospice is absolutely horrible. Staff are unorganized and rude. The LVN s aren t experienced or haven t gone through enough training. They constantly call out too much and don t follow up on their relievers. Patients are without a nurse for long periods of time and that is ultimately neglect and abandonment. Wishing I can give this business 0 stars.

Example: There are a few times in life when a meal is so expertly crafted and planned that it is nothing short of genius. Last night, I had one of those meals – the Mahi Mahi.

The dish was excellently prepared. Grilled, juicy, and fresh without a hint of fishiness. A glaze of tangerine sauce brought a hint of tart sweetness. The fish was placed on a mound of sweet plantain rice. The combination of the fish and rice alone was to die for!

However, as only expert chefs can achieve, additional garnishes provided even bolder, beautiful tastes. Pickled onions topping the fish made for an even finer taste experience, while green beans hidden under the fish added freshness and completed each bite
